Still one machine, and that is a genuinely useful answer at this size - but the sentence needs a second half. A 3,000 sq ft apartment at a normal ceiling is about 850 cubic metres of air against a rating of roughly 1000, which is the same conclusion as the 2,000 sq ft page reached with a very different amount of room to be careless. At 2,000 sq ft you can stand the machine almost anywhere and it works. At 3,000 sq ft the flat is longer, the passages are real distances, the layout usually splits into two ends, and where you put the unit and how early you start it are no longer details.
Quick answers — read this first
How do I scent a 3,000 sq ft apartment for a viewing? Run the numbers first: 3,000 sq ft at a 10 ft ceiling is 3,000 x 10 = 30,000 cubic feet, and 30,000 / 35.3 = about 850 cubic metres. One SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 covers it - the rating is roughly 1000 cubic metres of connected air and SOSA's own published figure is 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft covered evenly on the room's natural airflow, so a 3,000 sq ft flat sits at the top of one unit rather than beyond it. The practical difference from a smaller flat is that you have almost no margin left for mistakes: place the unit centrally in the connected living, dining and passage volume rather than at either end, open every internal door, start it about ninety minutes ahead on a low setting, and check the far end of the flat yourself before the buyer arrives.

Is one Vaayu enough for 3,000 sq ft, or should I buy two? One, on the published figures, and two is usually the wrong purchase. About 850 cubic metres against a rating of roughly 1000 is inside the envelope, and doubling the machines in a flat of this size risks the failure that matters in a viewing, which is a property that smells strongly of fragrance and therefore reads as a property with something to hide. Where a second device does become reasonable is when the flat is not one connected volume: a separate wing behind a door that stays shut, a servant's room and utility area off the kitchen, or a family lounge at the far end with its own passage. Even then, reed diffusers from Rs 749 in those pockets usually beat a second machine at Rs 11,999.

What ceiling height pushes a 3,000 sq ft flat past one machine? Twelve feet is where the arithmetic crosses over. At 11 ft, 3,000 x 11 = 33,000 cubic feet and 33,000 / 35.3 = about 935 cubic metres, still inside a rating of roughly 1000. At 12 ft, 3,000 x 12 = 36,000 cubic feet and 36,000 / 35.3 = about 1,020 cubic metres, which is past it. At a 14 ft ceiling, which a double-height living room or an older bungalow floor can easily have, 3,000 x 14 = 42,000 cubic feet and 42,000 / 35.3 = about 1,190 cubic metres, and that is a different machine conversation entirely: zoned units, or SOSA Aangan at Rs 25,999 where there is ducted HVAC to work with. Measure the height before you quote the area.
The short answer
Short answer: A 3,000 sq ft apartment at a 10 ft ceiling is 30,000 cubic feet, which is 30,000 / 35.3 = about 850 cubic metres. One SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 covers it: rated to roughly 1000 cubic metres of connected air, with SOSA's published figure at 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft covered evenly on natural airflow. The headroom a 2,000 sq ft flat gives you is gone, so placement and lead time decide the result: stand the unit centrally in the connected volume, open internal doors, start about ninety minutes ahead on a low setting. Above an 11 ft ceiling the arithmetic crosses 1000 cubic metres and the answer changes. Reeds from Rs 749 for separated pockets. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

Every customer-facing space hosts two audiences at once: the customer who forms an opinion in a single visit, and the staff who breathe that air for eight hours. Commercial scenting serves both with one move - a single refined fragrance, held evenly from the entrance to the far end of the floor, running on a schedule nobody has to remember. Customers experience it as "this brand has itself together"; the team gets premises that smell composed from opening to close.
Straight answer
Will one machine really cover a 3,000 sq ft flat for a viewing, or am I under-buying?
One machine, used with more care than a smaller flat needs. 1. The arithmetic. 3,000 x 10 = 30,000 cu ft; 30,000 / 35.3 = 849.9, call it about 850m³. The SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999, waterless, app and timer) is rated to approximately 1000m³ of connected air, and SOSA's own copy puts one unit at 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft covered evenly using the room's natural airflow. So 3,000 sq ft is not a marginal call in the sense of being outside the figure - it is the top of the figure. 2. Which means the margin is spent. At 2,000 sq ft you are using a little over half the rating and mistakes are absorbed. At 850 against 1000 they are not, and the two mistakes that show up are a unit standing at one end of a long flat, and a switch-on fifteen minutes before the doorbell. 3. Check the height before you accept the area. At 11 ft the flat is 33,000 cu ft = about 935m³, still inside. At 12 ft it is 36,000 cu ft = about 1,020m³, which is past. A 14 ft ceiling makes it 42,000 cu ft = about 1,190m³ and changes the conversation to zoned units or SOSA Aangan at ₹25,999 where there is ducted HVAC. 4. Confirm what is actually connected. 850m³ assumes one volume of air. A 3,000 sq ft flat is usually two ends joined by a passage, plus bedrooms behind doors. Open the doors an hour ahead or accept that the far wing is a separate job. 5. Place, start early, run low. Central to the connected volume, freestanding on a console, on a live socket - it is mains powered, about 5W at DC 12V / 1A - and started roughly ninety minutes before the appointment on the lowest useful setting. Then walk to the far bedroom yourself and check. The register should be quiet: the Ritz-Carlton-inspired white tea, bergamot and cedar is the safest for an aspirational home; the Four Seasons-inspired citrus, floral and sandalwood suits a brighter, sunnier flat. These are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations and SOSA is not affiliated with any hotel brand. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with the plan. The margin gets thinner, and placement starts to matter

Three things change between 2,000 and 3,000 sq ft, and none of them is the machine: the margin against the rating, the distance from one end of the flat to the other, and how much a wrong ceiling-height assumption costs you.

Why this works
Why 3,000 sq ft is the same answer with less room for error
13,000 sq ft x 10 ft = 30,000 cu ft; 30,000 / 35.3 = about 850 cubic metres2Still one Vaayu at Rs 11,999 against a rating of roughly 1000 cubic metres3At 12 ft the same flat is about 1,020 cubic metres - past one unit4Central placement and a ninety-minute head start replace the missing margin
The commercial standard: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, app-scheduled, ~1000m³ coverage. Single rooms start on reeds from ₹749.
1
The arithmetic
850 against 1000, and what that gap is worth
3,000 sq ft at a 10 ft ceiling: 3,000 x 10 = 30,000 cu ft, and 30,000 / 35.3 = 849.9, so about 850m³. The SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is rated to approximately 1000m³ of connected air, and SOSA's own published figure is one unit covering 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft evenly using the room's natural airflow. Both statements agree: 3,000 sq ft is inside one unit. It is worth being precise about what kind of inside, though, because it is not the same as the previous page. A 2,000 sq ft flat at about 566m³ uses a little over half the rating; a 3,000 sq ft flat at 850m³ uses roughly eighty-five per cent of it. The machine is not working harder in any mechanical sense, but you have consumed the tolerance that was quietly forgiving your set-up on the smaller flat. In practice that shows up in exactly two places: the far end of the property, and the last thirty minutes before the buyer arrives. Everything else in this page is about protecting those two. And as always, use the enclosed area you actually walk on rather than the super built-up figure in the listing, which can be a quarter to a third larger than any air that exists.
Tip: same answer, less tolerance - 850 of a 1000m³ rating is the top of one unit, not the middle of it.
2
The layout
At this size the flat stops being one room and becomes two ends
A 2,000 sq ft apartment is usually a single social volume with bedrooms off it. A 3,000 sq ft apartment, in most Indian metro developments, is a different animal: a formal living and dining space at one end, a passage of real length, a family lounge or study, a master suite that occupies a corner of the plan, and a kitchen with a utility and a servant's room behind it. Sometimes it is two flats combined, in which case there is a wall with one opening in it that is doing a great deal of work. That geometry matters more than the extra thousand square feet does. Fragrance moves through a home on the flat's own air currents, not under pressure, so distance and doorways cost you far more than volume does: a machine standing in the formal living room of a long flat will scent that room properly, the passage adequately, and the far bedroom barely, and the buyer will experience the property as scented at the entrance and neutral where they end up. The correction is not more machine. It is standing the unit where the connected air actually crosses - typically the junction of the living, dining and passage rather than the prettiest console in the room - and giving it enough time to reach the far end before anybody walks it.
3
Height
The variable that quietly moves a 3,000 sq ft flat out of range
Everything above assumes 10 ft. Change that assumption and the arithmetic moves quickly, because volume scales with height in exactly the same way it scales with area, and nobody thinks of a room as being twenty per cent bigger because the ceiling is two feet higher. At 11 ft: 3,000 x 11 = 33,000 cu ft, and 33,000 / 35.3 = about 935m³. Still inside 1000, but only just. At 12 ft: 3,000 x 12 = 36,000 cu ft, and 36,000 / 35.3 = about 1,020m³, which is past the rating. At 14 ft, which an old Bombay flat, a converted bungalow floor or a modern apartment with a double-height living volume can easily be: 3,000 x 14 = 42,000 cu ft, and 42,000 / 35.3 = about 1,190m³, which is nearly forty per cent past one unit and is a different machine conversation altogether - two units zoned, or SOSA Aangan at ₹25,999 if the property has ducted HVAC worth putting a system into. Two practical notes. Measure to the false ceiling, not the slab, because the gypsum is the top of the air you are scenting. And in a room with a genuinely high ceiling, expect the upper volume to hold scent you cannot smell at head height, which argues for patience rather than intensity. The sizing method page works this through for any area and height.
Tip: ask the ceiling height before you quote the machine - 3,000 sq ft at 12 ft is a different property from 3,000 sq ft at 10 ft.
The SOSA principle
3,000 sq ft is the last size where one machine and no thought still works - and it only works if the thought goes into placement and lead time instead.
About 850m³ against a rating of roughly 1000m³. Inside the figure, at the top of it, with the tolerance spent.

Honest notes for business owners: scenting compounds a well-run premises and rescues nothing. Ventilation, air-conditioning and cleaning come first, and fragrance never substitutes for hygiene or air quality - if the air is stale, damp or smoky, fix that at the source before any scent goes in. The people most exposed to the fragrance are not your customers but your STAFF, who work eight-hour shifts in it, which is why whisper calibration and locked settings are standard on every SOSA commercial install, and any staff sensitivity report should be treated as a recalibration signal rather than a complaint. Healthcare and wellness spaces need extra restraint: keep scenting to reception and circulation areas, never treatment rooms, and the practitioner's judgement overrides anything in this guide. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. Ultrasonic systems use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; the Vaayu and HVAC systems run waterless nebulising oil - the formats are not interchangeable. WhatsApp consult: +91 96192 18531. ISIPCA
Versailles
A note from Sonal

I have walked into jewellery showrooms lit like museums, bridal boutiques with hand-embroidered walls, furniture floors styled down to the last cushion, clinics with better art than most galleries - and in almost every one of them, the air was an afterthought. Floor polish, packaging cartons, the phenyl from the morning mopping, the workshop or the loading bay drifting forward. The one thing every customer takes in before they see anything is the thing most businesses leave to chance.

I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles, where the world's scent-marketing perfumers learn the craft, and what I build for Indian businesses is the same architecture the global hospitality brands use, whatever you sell: one signature, sized to the space, run on a schedule - so the scent is as reliable as your lighting. A consultation corner may only need reeds; a full floor needs the Vaayu; a venue needs the HVAC systems. If you want it applied to your specific premises, message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with the type of space and its approximate size - I read those descriptions myself.

Everything is made or assembled for Indian conditions, supported from Pune - and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your brand gets a memory; a girl gets a classroom. That equation has always felt right to me.

Frequently asked questions

The listing says 3,000 sq ft. Should I size on that number?
Ask which number it is first, because in Indian property that word covers three different areas. Super built-up includes a share of lobbies, staircases, lift wells and amenities and is typically twenty-five to thirty-five per cent larger than what you walk on. Built-up is the flat plus its walls. Carpet area, as defined under RERA, is the usable floor inside the walls. Air only exists inside the flat, so size on carpet or built-up, never on super built-up. A flat marketed at 3,000 sq ft super built-up may be closer to 2,000 to 2,200 sq ft of actual enclosed floor, which at a 10 ft ceiling is roughly 620 to 680 cubic metres rather than 850 - a difference that decides how hard you need to run a machine, and occasionally whether you need one at all. You already know which number your listing uses. Use that knowledge.
Where exactly should the machine stand in a long flat?
At the junction where the connected air actually crosses, which in most 3,000 sq ft plans is the meeting point of the living, dining and main passage rather than the console by the front door or the corner of the formal living room. Two practical tests. Stand where you are considering placing it and look: if you can see into three or more of the spaces the buyer will walk through, the air can probably get there too. Then check what is next to it - do not put it under a running split air conditioner, which will drive the fragrance in one direction and strip the room nearest the unit, and do not put it beside an open balcony door, which is a hole in your volume. If the flat genuinely has two ends that share no line of sight, that is a zoning question rather than a placement one.
Should I run two machines at low settings instead of one at medium?
It sounds elegant and it is usually an expensive way to reach the same place. Two units at Rs 11,999 each in a 3,000 sq ft flat is buying capacity for roughly 2000 cubic metres to scent about 850, and the practical risk is that two low settings in a connected volume add up to one medium level that you never chose. Where two units are genuinely right is when the property is not one connected volume - a duplex with a staircase, a flat split into two wings by a door that stays shut, a separate guest annexe. In that case you are not doubling the power, you are covering two spaces, which is a different decision and the honest one. For a single-floor 3,000 sq ft apartment being shown to a buyer, one unit placed properly is the answer, and the money is better spent on cleaning.
How long before the viewing should I switch it on at this size?
Roughly ninety minutes, against about an hour for a smaller flat, and the extra half hour is buying distribution rather than intensity. The fragrance has further to travel, there is usually a passage and at least one turn in the way, and the whole aim is that the flat is evenly and quietly scented when the buyer walks in rather than actively being scented around them. Use the timer and the app rather than remembering - a machine that switched itself on at ten past two is more reliable than a broker who is parking at half past three. Then do the one check nobody does: walk to the furthest room the buyer will enter, from outside if you can, and see whether the air there is the same as the air at the door. That five-minute walk tells you more than any coverage figure.
Is a bigger flat better suited to the HVAC system instead?
Only if the property has a ducted air-conditioning system with proper return air, and most Indian apartments do not - they run individual split units per room, which recirculate each room's own air and carry nothing between rooms. SOSA Aangan at Rs 25,999 covers roughly 8,000 to 10,000 sq ft through a duct system, and it is a fixed installation into that system, which is a serious commitment for a flat you are showing rather than one you live in. For a broker preparing a listing, a freestanding machine you can carry, set up and pack down is almost always the right format, and the HVAC systems become relevant on villas, penthouses and clubhouse-scale properties where the owner is committing to permanent scenting. WhatsApp us on +91 96192 18531 with the property details if you want a straight answer on which side of that line yours falls.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA commercial range; the scent-marketing strategy advice applies to any business's systems.

Facts verified August 2026: Ambient scent research consistently associates pleasant, congruent scenting with improved evaluations of a space and its service, longer dwell time and stronger brand recall at moderate effect sizes; congruence (scent matching the setting) and gentle intensity outperform strong scenting in replicated studies, and no scent effect survives poor ventilation, poor cleaning or poor indoor air quality. Olfactory memory is unusually durable: scent-linked brand memories persist and retrieve for years, which is the mechanism behind signature scents. Staff exposure is the design constraint, since employees breathe the fragrance for full shifts: whisper calibration, locked settings and sensitivity accommodations are standard practice, and healthcare and wellness settings call for extra restraint.
