Every page in this family answers one question about what a premium appliance showroom should smell like. This one turns the answers into a method. Five steps, in order, over about six weeks, and not one of them involves choosing from a tray of blotters.
Quick answers — read this first
How do I choose a signature scent for my premium appliance brand? In five steps. One: list the five largest surfaces a visitor sees and mark each warm or cool. Two: let the finishes choose the register - pine, sage and cedar for walnut, stone and dark glass; lemon, mint and eucalyptus for white lacquer and glass; nothing sweet, edible or floral in any case. Three: test the winner as a reed at the reception desk for two weeks in the real air of the floor. Four: judge the level from the specification table at five in the afternoon with the floor team. Five: lock it on a machine sized to the connected floor.

Why not choose from blotters like a perfume? Because a blotter rewards the wrong things. Sweet, ambery and gourmand notes smell expensive on paper and read as a candle shop on a floor of steel and glass; dry cedar and lemon smell like nothing on paper and read as a well-kept home on the floor. A blotter also tells you nothing about the level, the AC, the hard surfaces or the advisor who breathes it nine hours. The floor is the only test that means anything, which is why step three is a reed at the desk rather than an afternoon with samples.

What does the finished signature run on? A SOSA Mountain Breeze (Rs 849) or Morning Freshness (Rs 749) reed for the two-week test, and the Fresh & Grounded duo (Rs 1,548) when the finishes tie. Then one SOSA Vaayu (Rs 11,999) per connected floor from about 1,500 sq ft - waterless, timer, adjustable intensity, key-lock - or one SOSA Angaan (Rs 25,999) past about 3,000 sq ft, the same register in every branch. Fragrance is an interiors decision like lighting; SOSA makes no claim that a signature changes footfall, dwell time or sales, and no claim about what it does to any appliance.
The short answer
Short answer: five steps and no blotter - list the finishes; let them choose between cedar-sage and lemon-mint, nothing edible; test the winner as a reed at the desk for two weeks; judge the level from the specification table at five in the afternoon with the team; lock it on a machine sized to the floor.
The pick: one Mountain Breeze reed (₹849) or Morning Freshness (₹749) for the test - the Fresh & Grounded duo (₹1,548) if the finishes tie; then one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) per connected floor from about 1,500 sq ft, or one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) past about 3,000 sq ft.
Next step: send the list of finishes and a floor plan with the specification table and the live kitchen marked; we will run steps one and two with you and tell you which reed to put on the desk - ask for a showroom scenting plan.
Choosing a signature scent for an appliance brand, in five stepsOne: list the five largest surfaces - warm or coolTwo: the finishes choose the register - nothing edibleThree: a reed at the reception desk for two weeksFour: judge from the specification table at five in the afternoonFive: lock it on a machine sized to the connected floor
About six weeks from a list of finishes to a locked machine. The blotter never appears.
Straight answer
How do I choose a signature scent for my premium appliance brand?
In five steps, taken in order, over about six weeks. I will give the method first and then the reasoning, because the method is short and the reasoning is what stops you skipping a step. Step one: list the finishes. Walk the floor and write down the five largest surfaces a visitor sees - fronts, worktops, floor, feature wall, the main appliance run - and mark each one warm or cool. Walnut, oak, travertine, dark quartz, bronze, black or smoked glass are warm. White or grey lacquer, handleless fronts, clear glass, brushed steel, pale stone are cool. If the brand has more than one site, do this for the flagship and note where the others differ. Step two: let the finishes choose the register. Cool wins, the register is fresh: Malabar lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus, Morning Freshness. Warm wins, it is woody: Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar, Mountain Breeze. A tie goes to woody, held quieter. Two directions are excluded before the count: anything sweet, gourmand or edible, because the hob and coffee counter own food smells, and anything heavily floral, because it reads as a candle shop on a floor of appliances. The best fragrance for a luxury kitchen-appliance showroom is the exclusion and fresh, woody or hotel-like is the judging. Step three: a reed at the reception desk for two weeks. Not a blotter, not a sample sniffed in the office. One 50ml bottle of the winner, ₹749 or ₹849, on the desk where the advisor stands, three reeds in it on a floor of glass and steel, in the real air of the floor with the real AC running and the real team breathing it. If step two was a tie, the Fresh & Grounded duo at ₹1,548 puts both on the desk and the team votes at the end of the fortnight. Two weeks is how long a nose takes to stop registering a new constant, so any opinion given before day ten is an opinion about novelty. Step four: judge the level from the specification table at five in the afternoon. Once the register is agreed and the machine is in, the setting is found by the floor team, not the owner, from the table where an architect and a client sit longest, at the hour when a sealed, air-conditioned floor has built to what it is going to build to. Start at the lowest setting, step up one increment a day until the team can just detect it at the far end, then step back once. The test is the level test: noticed at the first display, forgotten by the specification table, un-nameable at the desk. If the team says it is too much, it is too much. Step five: lock it. Levels on a shop floor only ever drift upward, so the afternoon the team agrees the level, the key goes in the lock and the setting becomes a fact of the building. Write the whole thing on one page - register, product, setting, hours, placement rule, demo-day schedule - and that page is the signature; every branch runs from it and owns only its placement. Should a premium appliance experience centre have a signature fragrance is why the lock is the signature. The machine follows the connected floor, not the ambition. Under about 750 sq ft the reed from step three is the whole answer, or a SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 with the honest note that it is water-based. From about 1,500 sq ft, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 per connected floor - waterless, a 1h/4h/8h/24h timer, adjustable intensity, a key-lock, wall or HVAC mount so it sits inward on the wall the AC supply crosses. Past about 3,000 sq ft, one SOSA Angaan at ₹25,999, never two Vaayus in one air; for the very largest experience centres a SOSA Meenar at ₹38,500. The reasoning behind the whole method is in what a premium home-appliance showroom should smell like: the showroom is a home, so the register is a well-kept home's; the level is set for the advisor; and the demonstration is never competed with, so the live kitchen and coffee counter stay unscented and the machine is off on its timer while a demo runs. And the frame: fragrance is an interiors and hospitality decision, like lighting or music. SOSA makes no claim that a signature changes footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales, and no claim about what it does to any appliance or finish on display. It is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or extraction. Ask for a showroom scenting plan and we will run the first two steps with you.
Five steps, no blotter: list the finishes; they choose cedar-sage or lemon-mint, nothing edible; a reed (Rs 749-849) at the desk for two weeks; the level judged from the specification table at five with the team; then locked on a Vaayu (Rs 11,999) per connected floor from about 1,500 sq ft, an Angaan past 3,000.
Step five needs three controls - hours, level, lock - and one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 has all three on a single waterless unit for up to 1000m³ of connected floor. Step three needs one reed at the desk.

What the five steps run on

Steps one, two and four cost nothing. Step three costs a reed. Step five costs a machine sized to the floor. The images link to the product pages so every figure below can be checked.

Step three - the two-week test at the reception desk
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar - the register most appliance floors end up signing with, because most are built from warm or dark materials. Alcohol-free, coconut-derived base, six fibre reeds; run three on glass and steel. 50ml Rs 849 lasts 6-8 weeks - long enough for the test and a month after; 130ml Rs 1,349 lasts 14-18 weeks. Reaches one desk zone, which is exactly the point of the test.

Step five - the level found, then locked, one per connected floor
SOSA Vaayu
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³ - about 2,000-3,000 sq ft - Rs 11,999. Adjustable intensity for step four, key-lock for step five, 1h/4h/8h/24h timer so the hours are the same every day and it is off during demos, wall or HVAC mount so it sits inward on the supply wall. No water, no residue; under 38dB; 400ml tank, 90+ days a fill.

1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft) on a single unit, Rs 11,999, adjustable intensity, key-lock, 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, auto-stop. Waterless - no moisture, no residue on displays. Freestanding or wall and HVAC mount. CE, RoHS, SGS certified. Made in India.

The five steps, one by one

Each step with its reasoning, the mistake it exists to prevent, and the page in this family that argues it in full.

1
List the finishes
Five surfaces, each marked warm or cool - the only brief that matters
The signature is chosen by the room, so the first step is to describe the room in the terms that matter to a nose. Walk the floor and write down the five largest surfaces a visitor sees: the fronts, the worktops, the floor, the feature or reception wall, the main appliance run. Mark each warm or cool. Walnut, oak, travertine, dark quartz, bronze, black and smoked glass, graphite are warm. White and grey lacquer, handleless fronts, clear glass, brushed steel, pale stone are cool. Note the ratio of hard to soft as well, because it decides the level later: an appliance floor is nearly all hard, which is why it sits a step below other retail. For a brand with several sites, do this for the flagship first and note where the others differ; most differ less than their managers think. What fragrance suits a high-end kitchen-appliance studio is this step at studio scale, where a single island can decide the count.
Rule: if you cannot list the finishes, you are not ready to choose a fragrance. Nobody is.
2
Let the finishes choose the register
Cool takes fresh, warm takes woody, a tie goes to woody - nothing edible
Count the marks. If cool wins, the register is fresh - Malabar lemon, peppermint, eucalyptus, Morning Freshness - which reads as a white kitchen with the window open. If warm wins, it is woody - Himalayan pine, sage, Indian cedar, Mountain Breeze - which reads as a house with a timber floor that has been kept. A tie goes to woody, held quieter, because cedar against white is only slightly warm whereas lemon against walnut is clearly clinical. Before the count, two directions are out: anything sweet, gourmand or edible, because in a kitchen-appliance showroom the hob, oven and coffee counter own food smells and an edible note merges with the demonstration; and anything heavily floral, because it reads as a candle shop on a floor of appliances. The register you are aiming at is a beautiful home's, not a scented home's - should a luxury appliance showroom smell like a beautiful home draws that line, and how to make an appliance showroom smell more luxurious is why the wrong smells must be out of the floor before the right one goes in.
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
Mountain Breeze - pine, sage and cedar. The register a warm or mixed floor chooses in step two.
See Mountain Breeze →
3
A reed at the desk for two weeks
The floor is the only test - the blotter is not one
This is the step most brands skip, and it is the one that makes the other four honest. A blotter rewards sweetness and amber and punishes dryness, and it tells you nothing about the AC, the hard surfaces or the advisor who breathes the result for nine hours. So the test is a reed - one 50ml bottle of the step-two winner on the reception desk, three reeds in it on a floor of glass and steel - for two weeks, in the real air, with the real plant running and the real team walking past it. If step two was a tie, the Fresh & Grounded duo puts both bottles on the desk and the team votes on day fourteen. Two weeks is not a formality: a nose takes about ten days to stop registering a new constant, so any verdict before then is a verdict on novelty. The reed also tells you something the machine will not, which is how the register sits against the smells the floor already has; if it fights new plastic or warm dust, that is a subtraction job, not a fragrance one. What customers should smell when they enter is where, once tested, the register will first be met.
Rule: no opinion before day ten. Novelty is not a verdict.
4
Judge the level from the specification table at five
With the team, from the far point, at the full hour
With the register agreed and the machine installed inward on the supply wall, the level is found - and it is found by the floor team, not the owner, from the specification table, not the door, at five in the afternoon, not eleven in the morning. Start at the lowest setting the machine has. Leave it a day. At five, ask whether the team can just detect it at the far end of the floor; if not, step up one increment and wait another day. When they can, step back down once, because the level you can just detect is a step too high for nine hours. Hold for two weeks before opinions. The test has three points - noticed at the first display, forgotten by the specification table, un-nameable at the desk - and the reason it is judged from the table is that an architect and a client sit there longest. Hard surfaces make this stricter than any other retail: steel, glass and stone bounce everything and nothing absorbs it. Running demo appliances will strip the fragrance from their own zones and that is correct; never compensate. How strong fragrance should be inside an experience centre is this step in full.
SOSA Vaayu
The Vaayu steps up from its lowest setting one increment at a time - and holds the answer.
See SOSA Vaayu →
5
Lock it, and write it down
The lock is the signature - one page, every branch
The afternoon the team agrees the level, the key goes in the lock. Levels on a shop floor drift in one direction only - a weekend advisor thinks it is faint, a manager wants it noticed for a launch - and nobody has ever turned a fragrance down by accident. Once locked, the setting is a fact of the building, and that fact, held every day at the same hours by the timer, is what a returning architect or a visitor from another branch recognises. It is the signature. The scent was chosen in step two and could have been either register; the signature is made in the year after step five by never changing it. Write it on one page: register, product, setting, run hours, placement rule (inward, high, on the supply wall, away from the returns), demo-day schedule (off on the timer while the live kitchen or coffee counter runs; extraction clears; back when the room smells of nothing), and a review date. Every branch runs from that page and owns only its placement. Should a premium appliance experience centre have a signature fragrance is why this step is the whole point; should every branch smell the same and a signature for a dealer network carry the page across sites.
Rule: a signature that can be changed from the floor is a fragrance. The lock is what makes it a signature.
The SOSA principle
A signature scent for an appliance brand is chosen by the finishes, tested on the desk, judged from the specification table, and made by the lock - the blotter never enters the room.
Five steps in six weeks. The register is the easy part; the discipline afterwards is what a visitor recognises.
SOSA Fresh & Grounded Reed Diffuser Duo
When step two is a tie: the Fresh & Grounded duo, ₹1,548 - both registers on the desk for two weeks, then the team votes.

The family, page by page: where each question is answered

This page is the method; the nine pages before it are the reasoning. Here is the family laid out so you can find the argument behind each step.

The family
What a premium appliance showroom should smell like - nine questions, one method
The question Where it is answered, and which step it feeds
SOSA VaayuWhat should a premium home-appliance showroom smell like?
The family's baseline: a well-kept home, set for the advisor, never inside the live kitchen. Feeds every step. View Vaayu →
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed DiffuserBest fragrance for a luxury kitchen-appliance showroom
The exclusion: nothing edible, and cedar-sage or lemon-mint by finish. Step two. View →
Should an experience centre have a signature fragrance?
Yes if visitors return or you have more than one site - and a signature is a consistency, not a scent. Step five.
How can I make my showroom smell more luxurious?
Subtract first: plastic, dust, cardboard, sealed air out before anything goes in. Before step three.
SOSA Morning Freshness Reed DiffuserWhat fragrance suits a high-end kitchen studio?
A kitchen at ten in the morning - and a reed is usually the whole answer at studio scale. Steps one and two. View →
Fresh, woody or hotel-like?
Judged one by one: fresh for cool floors, woody for warm, hotel-like a level not a family. Step two.
Should it smell like a beautiful home?
Yes - a kept home, not a scented one: cedar, linen, tea, nothing announcing itself. Steps two and four.
How strong should it be?
Set for the advisor, judged from the table at five, locked. Steps four and five.
What should customers smell when they enter?
A draught, then the first display, then nothing they can name - placed inward. The placement rule in step five.

The method also leans on three pages outside this family: should an appliance showroom with a live kitchen use commercial fragrance for the demo-day schedule written into step five, how to calculate scent-machine requirements for a large store for sizing the machine to volumes of air rather than floor area, and one signature scent across a national chain for carrying the one-page standard across every store. SOSA makes no claim that a signature changes footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales, and no claim about what it does to any appliance or finish on display.

A note from Sonal

Brand managers arrive expecting a tray of blotters, and I have stopped bringing one. The blotter is where every bad showroom fragrance was chosen: it flatters vanilla and amber and makes dry cedar smell like nothing, and it cannot tell you a single thing about your AC, your quartz worktops or the advisor who will breathe the result for nine hours. So instead I ask for a list. Five surfaces, warm or cool. From that list I can name the register in ten minutes, and I usually do, and then I tell them the next six weeks are spent making sure I was right in their air rather than in my head.

The step people resist is the reed. A brand with four sites does not want to put an ₹849 bottle on a reception desk for a fortnight; it wants the machine, the standard and the launch. But the reed is the only honest test there is, because it happens on the floor, with the plant running and the team walking past, and because two weeks is how long a nose takes to stop being excited by something new. If the finishes tie, both bottles go on the desk and the team votes. Then the Vaayu goes in, inward on the supply wall, and we find the level from the specification table at five with whoever has been on the floor longest, one increment a day from the bottom, and back one. And then I turn the key, and that afternoon is when the brand gets its signature.

The nine pages before this one are the reasoning; this is the method. Mountain Breeze or Morning Freshness to test; one Vaayu at ₹11,999 per connected floor from about 1,500 sq ft to lock; one Angaan past 3,000; off on the timer while the hob is lit; the same page in every branch. And the frame I put around every signature I have ever set: an interiors decision like lighting or music, with no claim that it moves footfall, dwell time or sales, and no claim about what it does to anything on display. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

What are the five steps to choosing a signature scent for an appliance brand?
One, list the five largest surfaces a visitor sees and mark each warm or cool. Two, let the count choose the register - lemon, mint and eucalyptus for a cool floor, pine, sage and cedar for a warm or mixed one, nothing sweet, edible or floral in any case. Three, test the winner as a reed at the reception desk for two weeks in the real air of the floor. Four, judge the level from the specification table at five in the afternoon with the floor team. Five, lock it on a machine sized to the connected floor and write it on one page.
How long does it take to choose and settle a signature scent for a showroom?
About six weeks from a list of finishes to a locked machine. Listing the finishes and choosing the register takes an afternoon. The reed test at the desk takes two weeks, because a nose needs about ten days to stop registering a new constant. Installing the machine and finding the level takes about a week of one-increment-a-day steps, then two weeks held before anyone gives an opinion. The signature itself is made over the year that follows, by never changing what was locked.
Why does SOSA test a signature with a reed on the desk rather than with fragrance samples?
Because a sample on a blotter rewards the wrong things and tests nothing that matters. Sweet, ambery notes smell expensive on paper and read as a candle shop on a floor of steel and glass; dry cedar and lemon smell like nothing on paper and read as a well-kept home on the floor. A blotter also says nothing about the AC, the hard surfaces or the advisor who breathes the result for nine hours. A reed at the reception desk for two weeks, at Rs 749 or Rs 849, is the only test that happens in the air the signature will live in.
What goes on the one-page standard once a signature scent is locked?
Seven lines. The register and the product. The machine per connected floor and its setting. The run hours on the timer. The placement rule - inward, high on the wall the AC supply crosses, away from the returns and the entrance. The demo-day schedule - off on the timer while the live kitchen or coffee counter runs, extraction clears, back on when the room smells of nothing. The lock, and who holds the key. A review date. Every branch runs from that page and owns only its placement; confirm refill availability with SOSA before writing it in.
Can a signature scent chosen by this method be expected to change how much a showroom sells?
SOSA makes no such claim, and a supplier who attaches a figure to a signature is selling. A signature scent for an appliance brand is an interiors and hospitality decision, like a lighting standard or a music policy, chosen because the showrooms are designed as homes and because consistency is a courtesy to architects and clients who return. It does not change footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales in any way SOSA will assert, and SOSA makes no claim about what it does to any appliance or finish on display.

Facts verified 7 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days a fill depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, operation under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W (roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month on a ten-hour daily schedule), freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification - electrical and compliance marks. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or displays; the four 100ml bottles in the box are the supply, and refill availability should be confirmed with SOSA. The SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) is an HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to 3,000m³, roughly 8,000-10,000 sq ft, with an 800ml reservoir, metal body, programmable schedules and operation under 42dB; the SOSA Meenar (₹38,500) is the HVAC machine for 12,000-18,000 sq ft. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is a 500ml water-based ultrasonic diffuser for a single room of roughly 270-320 sq ft. SOSA reed diffusers - Mountain Breeze (₹849 / ₹1,349) and Morning Freshness (₹749 / ₹1,249), or the two together as the Fresh & Grounded duo (₹1,548 / ₹2,548) - are alcohol-free and phthalate-free, with a 50ml bottle lasting 6-8 weeks and a 130ml bottle 14-18 weeks. Ambient fragrance in a showroom is an interior and hospitality decision: SOSA makes no claim that it changes dwell time, footfall, conversion, basket size, sales or any other business number, no claim about what it does to any appliance, surface or finish on display, and it is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or extraction. Warranty, installation, service and bulk terms are confirmed with SOSA directly. The hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own original interpretations; SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel or appliance brand named for reference. Coverage, fragrance usage and running cost depend on the space, settings and hours of use, and are confirmed on a consultation.
