This page exists to stop somebody spending money badly. A SOSA Vaayu is mains powered. It runs on DC 12V at 1A, about 5W, which is a very low draw but it is still a plug in a working socket, and in a flat where the supply has been disconnected it will not run at all. Neither will an ultrasonic. If your listing has no electricity, the honest answer is reed diffusers from Rs 749, or getting the supply restored - and if you are showing a premium property to a serious buyer, restoring the supply is the answer for several reasons that have nothing to do with fragrance.
Quick answers — read this first
Can a SOSA Vaayu run in a flat with no electricity? No. The Vaayu is mains powered, rated DC 12V at 1A, roughly 5W. That is a genuinely low draw, so running it costs very little where there is power, but it is not a battery device and it has no internal cell. In a property where the meter has been disconnected or the mains switched off at the distribution board, it will not operate. Do not buy an Rs 11,999 machine for a flat with no supply. The same is true of the ultrasonic diffusers - Boond at Rs 899, Sukoon at Rs 1,899 and Megh at Rs 3,499 all plug into a socket. Reed diffusers from Rs 749 need no power at all and are the correct answer for a powerless property.
What can you use to scent a property with no power? Reed diffusers, and ventilation, which is free. SOSA reeds start at Rs 749 for Morning Freshness, with Garden Bloom and Evening Calm at Rs 799 and Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew at Rs 849, and 130ml sizes from Rs 1,249; they typically last about six to ten weeks. In a vacant flat they have a real advantage over any machine: they work on the days you are not there, so a flat you visit once a fortnight is scented continuously rather than only when somebody arrives early to switch something on. Place them on the kitchen platform, bathroom counters and a window sill a few days before the first viewing so the flat has evened out. Before any of that, open the property, cross-ventilate and pour water down every drain trap - none of which needs electricity either.
Should I just restore the electricity supply instead? For a premium listing, almost certainly yes, and fragrance is the smallest of the reasons. With no power you have no lights, no fans, no exhaust in the bathrooms, no air-conditioning and no lift access to the flat in some buildings, and a dark, hot, airless flat at four in the afternoon undoes everything presentation is supposed to do. Establish first why the supply is off. If somebody has simply switched off the mains at the distribution board, that is a ten-second fix. If the utility has disconnected the meter for dues or on the owner's application, restoration means clearing the account, applying and paying a reconnection charge, which can take days to weeks and is the owner's job to start now rather than the week before your first viewing.
The short answer
Short answer: No. The SOSA Vaayu is mains powered - DC 12V, 1A, about 5W - and will not run without a working socket, and the ultrasonic diffusers (Boond Rs 899, Sukoon Rs 1,899, Megh Rs 3,499) plug in too. In a property with the supply disconnected, use reed diffusers, which need no power: from Rs 749, lasting about six to ten weeks, placed days before the viewing. Ventilating the flat and pouring water down the drain traps also costs nothing. For a premium listing the better answer is to get the supply restored, because no power also means no lights, fans, exhaust or air-conditioning. Vaayu Rs 11,999 once there is a socket. Registers from Rs 299. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

Every customer-facing space hosts two audiences at once: the customer who forms an opinion in a single visit, and the staff who breathe that air for eight hours. Commercial scenting serves both with one move - a single refined fragrance, held evenly from the entrance to the far end of the floor, running on a schedule nobody has to remember. Customers experience it as "this brand has itself together"; the team gets premises that smell composed from opening to close.
My listing has no electricity. Can I still scent it, and what should I buy?
Straight answers, in order. 1. A machine will not run. The SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is mains powered at DC 12V / 1A, about 5W. It has no battery. With the supply off it does nothing at all, and we would rather tell you that here than have you spend ₹11,999 on our advice and discover it at the property. The ultrasonics are the same: Sukoon (₹1,899) and Megh (₹3,499) both plug in. 2. What does work: reeds.SOSA reed diffusers need no power, no timer and no attendance. Morning Freshness at ₹749, Garden Bloom and Evening Calm at ₹799, Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew at ₹849, 130ml sizes from ₹1,249, typically lasting about six to ten weeks. Place them on the kitchen platform, the bathroom counters and a window sill several days before the first viewing so the flat has settled rather than smelling freshly dosed. 3. What also works and costs nothing. Open the flat and cross-ventilate for an hour before every appointment. Have it cleaned. Pour half a litre of water down every floor trap, basin trap and balcony drain, because in an unoccupied flat those seals dry out and let drain air back into the rooms - that is the smell most brokers are trying to cover, and no fragrance fixes it. 4. What we will not suggest. Running an extension lead from a neighbour's flat or from the society's common-area supply. It is unsafe, it is not yours to take, and a cable taped across the entrance of a flat you are showing tells a buyer exactly what it is. 5. The better answer for a premium listing. Restore the supply. Find out first whether the mains is simply switched off at the distribution board, which is instant, or genuinely disconnected by the utility, which needs dues cleared, an application and a reconnection charge and can take days to weeks. No power also means no lights, no fans, no bathroom exhaust and no air-conditioning, and a dark, hot flat defeats presentation long before the air does. Once there is a socket, the Vaayu is the right machine for the job. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with the property details. What runs without power, and what plainly does not
Three parts: the power specification and what it rules out, what genuinely works in a flat with no supply, and how to get the supply back if the property deserves it.
Why this works
No socket, no machine - what to do instead
The commercial standard: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, app-scheduled, ~1000m³ coverage. Single rooms start on reeds from ₹749.
What DC 12V, 1A and 5W actually means for a vacant listing
The SOSA Vaayu runs on DC 12V at 1A, which is about 5W. Two things follow and they pull in different directions, so it is worth being precise about both. The good news is that 5W is a very small draw indeed - lower than a phone charger under load, lower than most LED downlights - so where a property has power, running the machine through a viewing day is a negligible cost and is not something an owner would notice on a bill. That is genuinely useful for a broker who has to ask a seller for permission to leave something plugged in. The constraint is the other half of the same fact: 12V DC comes from an adaptor, and the adaptor comes from a socket. There is no battery in the machine, no internal cell, no backup, and nothing about the freestanding lay-flat design changes that - it means the unit does not have to be a fixed installation, not that it does not have to be plugged in. If the flat has no supply, the Vaayu is an inert object in a bag. The same applies to every powered diffuser on our list: Sukoon at ₹1,899 and Megh at ₹3,499 are both mains ultrasonics. SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 is cordless and rechargeable, but it is a personal-space device with no published coverage figure and we do not present it as a room-filling machine, so it is not the answer for a 2,000 sq ft flat either. This is a constraint, not a caveat, and it decides the purchase.
Tip: 5W is almost nothing to run and completely impossible to run without a socket - both halves matter.

What works
Reeds, ventilation and a jug of water
Everything that works in a powerless flat has the same property: it does not need attending to. Reed diffusers are the obvious one and they suit a vacant property better than most brokers assume. Morning Freshness at ₹749, Garden Bloom and Evening Calm at ₹799, Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew at ₹849, with 130ml sizes from ₹1,249 and a working life of roughly six to ten weeks. They need no power, no timer, no app and no early arrival. That last point is the real advantage: a machine only scents the flat when somebody has come early to switch it on, whereas reeds are working on the Tuesday afternoon when a co-broker brings a client you did not know about. Place them a few days before the first viewing rather than an hour before, so the flat has evened out instead of smelling of a bottle that was just opened, and put them where an empty flat still has surfaces - the kitchen platform, the bathroom counters, a deep window sill. Their limit is honest and worth stating: a reed diffuser scents a bathroom, an entrance corner or a small bedroom, not a whole apartment. You are buying several pleasant local pockets rather than one even character across 2,000 sq ft. Alongside them, the two free interventions do more than anything you can buy: an hour of genuine cross-ventilation before each appointment, and half a litre of water poured down every floor trap, basin trap and balcony drain to restore the water seals that have evaporated. Neither needs electricity, and in a vacant flat both outrank fragrance.

The real fix
Why a premium listing needs the supply back, fragrance aside
If the property is worth scenting at all, it is worth having power in. Work out first which situation you are in, because they are days apart. The commonest by far is that nothing is disconnected and the mains has simply been switched off at the distribution board, or the individual MCBs have been left down after the last occupant moved out - that is a ten-second fix by anyone with the key, and it is worth checking before assuming anything. Next is a supply that is live but with no working sockets in the part of the flat you want, which happens in flats mid-renovation. Then there is genuine utility disconnection: the meter removed or the connection cut, usually for outstanding dues, a formal application by the owner to stop billing on an empty flat, or a builder's temporary supply that was never converted to a permanent one after handover. That last category is the owner's job and it takes time - the account cleared, an application, a reconnection charge, and a visit - so if a property is going on the market, it belongs on the to-do list now rather than the week your viewings start. And the argument for it is not fragrance. With no supply you have no lights, so an evening or monsoon-afternoon viewing happens in gloom. You have no fans and no air-conditioning, so a closed flat in an Indian summer is genuinely uncomfortable within minutes and the buyer's overwhelming memory of the property becomes heat. You have no bathroom exhaust, which is precisely where a vacant flat needs air movement most. Presentation runs on power long before it runs on scent, and a broker who gets the electricity back has fixed four problems for the price of one.
Tip: restore the supply and you fix light, heat, extraction and scenting at once - fragrance is the least of what power buys you.
The SOSA principle
The Vaayu is 5W, and 5W of nothing is still nothing. A mains machine in a flat with no supply is a wasted ₹11,999 - reeds from ₹749, or get the power back.
We would rather lose the sale on this page than have you discover it standing in the flat twenty minutes before a buyer arrives.

The SOSA commercial edit
Whatever your business sells, the system logic is the same: one signature, sized to the space, scheduled so it never depends on anyone's memory. A single small room or a consultation corner can sit happily on reeds with no power at all; a customer-facing floor wants the Vaayu; a venue or a flagship wants HVAC. Every SOSA system is supported from India, and the Hotel Collection blends - SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations - run across the powered ones. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the full commercial range.

Honest notes for business owners: scenting compounds a well-run premises and rescues nothing. Ventilation, air-conditioning and cleaning come first, and fragrance never substitutes for hygiene or air quality - if the air is stale, damp or smoky, fix that at the source before any scent goes in. The people most exposed to the fragrance are not your customers but your STAFF, who work eight-hour shifts in it, which is why whisper calibration and locked settings are standard on every SOSA commercial install, and any staff sensitivity report should be treated as a recalibration signal rather than a complaint. Healthcare and wellness spaces need extra restraint: keep scenting to reception and circulation areas, never treatment rooms, and the practitioner's judgement overrides anything in this guide. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. Ultrasonic systems use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; the Vaayu and HVAC systems run waterless nebulising oil - the formats are not interchangeable. WhatsApp consult: +91 96192 18531. ISIPCA Versailles
A note from Sonal
I have walked into jewellery showrooms lit like museums, bridal boutiques with hand-embroidered walls, furniture floors styled down to the last cushion, clinics with better art than most galleries - and in almost every one of them, the air was an afterthought. Floor polish, packaging cartons, the phenyl from the morning mopping, the workshop or the loading bay drifting forward. The one thing every customer takes in before they see anything is the thing most businesses leave to chance.
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles, where the world's scent-marketing perfumers learn the craft, and what I build for Indian businesses is the same architecture the global hospitality brands use, whatever you sell: one signature, sized to the space, run on a schedule - so the scent is as reliable as your lighting. A consultation corner may only need reeds; a full floor needs the Vaayu; a venue needs the HVAC systems. If you want it applied to your specific premises, message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with the type of space and its approximate size - I read those descriptions myself.
Everything is made or assembled for Indian conditions, supported from Pune - and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your brand gets a memory; a girl gets a classroom. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a battery or cordless version of the Vaayu?
No. The Vaayu is a mains unit, DC 12V at 1A, about 5W, with no internal battery. SOSA does make a cordless rechargeable diffuser, the Safar at Rs 3,999, but it is honestly a personal-space device - a car, a desk, a bedside - and there is no published coverage figure for it, so we do not present it as something that will scent a flat. Using it to try to fill a 2,000 sq ft empty apartment would be setting yourself up for disappointment, and we would rather say so than take the order. If the property genuinely has no power and you need something working across several rooms, the answer is multiple reed diffusers from Rs 749, placed a few days ahead, plus proper ventilation on the day. If the power can be restored, the Vaayu at Rs 11,999 is the right machine and the 5W draw makes it easy to justify to an owner.
Can I run the machine from a power bank or an inverter?
We do not specify or support the machine on anything other than its own supplied adaptor and a normal mains socket, and we will not publish a workaround for it here. Beyond the warranty question, think about what you are actually building: a broker arriving at a premium listing with a battery pack and a cable running across the floor, twenty minutes before a serious buyer walks in, is adding fragility and clutter to the exact ninety minutes that are supposed to feel effortless. If the flat has no power, use reed diffusers, which are designed to work with no supply and no attendance at all. If the property justifies the effort, put that effort into getting the electricity restored instead, because it fixes the lighting, the fans and the bathroom extraction along with the scenting. WhatsApp us on +91 96192 18531 if you want to talk through a specific property.
Can I use the neighbour's socket or the society's common-area supply?
No, and this one is worth being firm about. It is somebody else's electricity, it usually requires a lead running out of the flat and across a common lobby or through a doorway, and it creates a trip hazard in a space you are about to walk a buyer through. Even setting aside the safety and the propriety, consider how it reads: a buyer who steps over a cable taped to the floor of an empty flat has been told that something is being arranged for their benefit, which is precisely the impression this whole approach is designed to avoid. The presentation logic of scenting a listing depends on it being invisible. Anything the buyer can see, trip over or ask about has already failed at the only job it had.
How far ahead should I place reed diffusers in a vacant flat?
Three to five days before the first viewing is a good working rule, and longer does no harm. A reed diffuser needs time for the oil to travel up the reeds and for the room to reach a steady level, so one opened an hour before a buyer arrives smells of a bottle that has just been opened rather than of a flat that is simply pleasant. Placing them days ahead also means the flat is scented for the viewings you did not schedule - a co-broker with a client, an owner showing someone around, a valuer. Flip the reeds once when you place them and then leave them alone; flipping them on the morning of a viewing produces a spike that reads as exactly what it is. In a vacant flat, keep the count low: two or three placed well beats six, and heavy scent in an empty property is read as concealment faster than in any other kind of listing.
The power is off because the flat is under renovation. Does that change anything?
It changes the priority order rather than the equipment. A flat that is mid-renovation has active smell sources in it - paint, putty, primer, adhesive, solvent, sealant, cut plywood, cement dust - and none of them are helped by adding fragrance on top; you would simply be creating a third smell. The correct sequence is to let the work finish, get the flat cleaned properly including the dust that settles inside cupboards and on ledges, have the supply energised as part of completing the work, and then air the property for as long as the schedule allows before you start showing it. Paint and adhesive continue releasing solvent for days after they look dry, so the single most valuable thing you can do is buy time and ventilation. Once the flat is finished, clean and powered, scenting is a straightforward job and the Vaayu at Rs 11,999 does it properly.

Facts verified August 2026: Ambient scent research consistently associates pleasant, congruent scenting with improved evaluations of a space and its service, longer dwell time and stronger brand recall at moderate effect sizes; congruence (scent matching the setting) and gentle intensity outperform strong scenting in replicated studies, and no scent effect survives poor ventilation, poor cleaning or poor indoor air quality. Olfactory memory is unusually durable: scent-linked brand memories persist and retrieve for years, which is the mechanism behind signature scents. Staff exposure is the design constraint, since employees breathe the fragrance for full shifts: whisper calibration, locked settings and sensitivity accommodations are standard practice, and healthcare and wellness settings call for extra restraint. SOSA systems: alcohol-free reed diffusers from ₹749 for single rooms with no power needed; Sukoon 500ml ultrasonic (₹1,899) and Megh 6L ultrasonic (₹3,499) run the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance (from ₹299; refills from ₹999, 100ml ₹999); SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebulising machine, ~1000m³ coverage, Bluetooth app and timer; SOSA Aangan (₹25,999) and SOSA Meenar (₹38,500) are HVAC nebulising systems for approximately 8,000-10,000 and 12,000-18,000 sq ft respectively.
