Why the price list is not a ladder

Most product ranges are built as a single line: each step up does more of the same thing, and price is a reasonable proxy for capability. These three are not built that way, and reading them as though they were is how people end up with the wrong machine. Coverage, runtime and price are three independent axes, and each machine is the peak of a different one. The Boond is the cheapest at ₹899. The Sukoon covers the most floor at 270–320 sq ft. The Megh runs the longest at up to 100 hours. Not one of them is the peak of two axes, and no machine in the range is the peak of all three — which means the correct question is not "how much should I spend" but "which axis is my problem on".

The reason the Megh inverts the pattern is physical rather than commercial. Tank size and coverage are almost unrelated in an ultrasonic. Coverage is a function of how much mist the machine puts out per hour and how well that mist distributes in a room; tank size only determines how long it can keep doing it before you refill. A six-litre reservoir is a hundred hours of not thinking about the machine, and in a very dry room it is also a meaningful amount of humidification. It is not a bigger footprint. Tank size is a clock, not a map — and once you hold that sentence, the whole range becomes easy to read. It also explains why the answer to "I need to cover more of my flat" is always another Sukoon rather than a larger single machine: area in a home is divided by walls and doors, so it is a counting problem, and counting problems are solved by buying more units rather than bigger ones.

In a Delhi or Chandigarh winter, or in a bedroom that runs the air conditioner all night, the humidity it adds is a real comfort and is arguably the main reason to own one. Where it loses: on coverage, and decisively — 215 sq ft against the Sukoon's 270–320, for ₹1,600 more. It is also a large object rather than a small one, and in a coastal monsoon the humidity that makes it valuable in January makes it unwelcome in August. And the comparison that settles most cases: two Sukoons are ₹3,798, ₹299 more than one Megh, and they scent two separate rooms.

The SOSA principle

So the useful question is which axis your problem sits on. Small room, cheap test: Boond. Ordinary room: Sukoon. One dry room running for days: Megh.

Drops, fills and tank hygiene

Drops scale with water, not with ambition. The Hotel Collection guidance is 3–6 drops per tank, and the sensible reading of that is two to three in a 300ml Boond, three to four in a 500ml Sukoon and five to six in a six-litre Megh. Note that the Megh takes only about twice the Sukoon's dose for twelve times the water — you are dosing per fill, not per litre, because what leaves the machine each hour is roughly the same in each case. Adding more drops does not increase coverage; it makes the first few feet heavier and leaves the far corner exactly as it was.

Runtime is a scheduling decision, not a target. A Sukoon's 16–18 hours on low is a capability, not an instruction — most people are happiest running two hours in the evening on the 2H timer, because a nose stops registering a constant scent within about twenty minutes and a machine that has been on since morning is producing a smell nobody in the house can detect. The same logic applies with more force to the Megh: a hundred hours of continuous output is genuinely useful when what you want is humidity, and mostly wasteful when what you want is fragrance.

The big tank needs a hygiene habit the small ones do not. A 300ml Boond is emptied and refilled every evening, so its water is never old. A six-litre Megh can hold the same water for the better part of a week, and standing water with fragrance in it is not something to top up indefinitely. Empty it, rinse it and refill with fresh water rather than adding to what is there — weekly is a reasonable rhythm. Use filtered water in a hard-water city for all three, because mineral scale on the plate is the most common reason an ultrasonic starts misting weakly, and rinse the tank whenever you change from one scent to another.

The Megh is the product I spend the most time talking people out of, and it is a machine I like. It is bought for the wrong reason more often than any other item we sell, because a six-litre tank and a ₹3,499 price tag between them create an impression of scale that the coverage figure does not support.

What the Megh is genuinely excellent at is being ignored. Fill it on a Sunday, forget it until the following Sunday, and in a dry Delhi January the bedroom is both scented and noticeably more comfortable to sleep in. That is a real product with a real customer. What it cannot do is cover more of your flat than a Sukoon, and no amount of tank does that, because the mist leaving the machine each hour is what sets the reach.

So my honest ordering is: Sukoon first, Boond if the room is small or you are testing, Megh only if you have said the words "dry" or "all night, every night" out loud while describing your problem. And if you catch yourself weighing one Megh against two Sukoons — ₹299 apart — ask whether your difficulty is one room or two. It is nearly always two.
