Should a 1,000 Sq Ft Flat Use Reeds, a Sukoon, or Both?
What gets nothing: the kitchen and the passage. Two of seven spaces, removed from the bill before you start.
Reeds alone: five 130ml bottles at ₹1,249 is ₹6,245 — more money for a worse result in the one room that mattered.
2. The build, itemised, with the total checked. A Sukoon at ₹1,899 plus a 15ml Hotel Collection at ₹299 for the living-dining. A 130ml at ₹1,249 for the main bedroom and a 130ml at ₹1,299 for the second. A 50ml at ₹749 for the main bathroom. ₹1,899 + ₹299 = ₹2,198; ₹1,249 + ₹1,299 = ₹2,548; plus ₹749. ₹5,495 for four scented spaces and a machine you can switch off.
3. Reeds alone cost more and do the big room worse. To cover the same flat in reeds you need two bottles in the living-dining, because one holds about 150 sq ft and the room is over 300. Five 130ml bottles at ₹1,249 is ₹6,245 — ₹750 more than the mixed build — and the two bottles in the big room give you two points of origin rather than one source that propels mist across the whole volume. You have paid more for less in the only room where the question was ever difficult.
4. Machines alone fail on room type, not on money. Two Sukoons is ₹3,798 and would look cheap on paper. But a 35 sq ft bathroom cannot absorb a machine at all, a bedroom does not want something with a switch and a socket beside the bed, and no machine runs unattended in a room nobody is in. Reeds lose on scale and win on unattendedness, which is why a flat this size needs both rather than one or the other.
5. Leave the kitchen and the passage out. Two of the seven spaces should get nothing, and this is the biggest saving available. A kitchen has its own smells at full volume twice a day and a diffuser in it is spending against a moving target — open a window instead. A passage is a transit space measured in seconds of occupancy. If you later want the hallway to register, the honest fix is to leave the main bedroom door open for an hour, not to buy a sixth thing.

Why 1,000 sq ft is seven spaces, and only one of them is difficult
Square footage is the number on the sale agreement and it is close to useless for this decision, because fragrance treats a closed door exactly as it treats a wall. The useful count is air spaces: volumes of air that are not exchanging with each other while people are in them. A typical 1,000 sq ft Indian flat gives you an open living-dining of around 300 to 350 sq ft, a kitchen that may or may not have a door, two bedrooms at roughly 150 and 130, two bathrooms at 35 to 45 each, and a passage joining them. That is seven volumes, not one, and the arithmetic of the whole purchase falls out of that list rather than out of the 1,000.
Now apply the one coverage figure that matters. A reed diffuser on six reeds holds a closed, still room of up to about 150 sq ft at standard ceiling height — roughly 1,350 cubic feet — and it holds it passively, with no fan and no pump, so the room's own air decides where the fragrance goes. Both bedrooms are inside that. Both bathrooms are far inside it, which is why they want two or three reeds rather than six. The passage and the kitchen are not sizing questions at all. That leaves precisely one space that a bottle cannot hold: the open living-dining, at more than twice a single bottle's rating and with no door to keep the air still. A Sukoon at ₹1,899 is rated to about 270–320 sq ft not because it contains more fragrance but because it propels it — a different mechanism, which is what a room that size actually needs. You are not choosing between two products. You are choosing which single room the machine is for.
The three decisions in a flat this size
One machine₹1,899The living-dining is the only room in a 1,000 sq ft flat that is genuinely past reed range, and it is past it twice over: the area is more than double a bottle's rating, and there is usually no door to hold the air still. A Sukoon at ₹1,899 with a 15ml Hotel Collection at ₹299 is ₹2,198 and covers about 270–320 sq ft. It also gives you something reeds cannot: a switch. Two hours before guests arrive, silence at midnight. Do not buy the Megh for this — at ₹3,499 it covers only about 215 sq ft, less than the Sukoon. Its six litres buy runtime and humidity, not area.Sizing by space — a 1,000 sq ft flat, room by room
This is a typical 1,000 sq ft plan broken into the seven air spaces it actually contains. Two rows are deliberately worth nothing, and they are the reason the total lands where it does.
| Space | What it needs | How many | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Open living-dining, about 300–350 sq ft, no door ★ | Past any passive bottle — a Sukoon with a 15ml Hotel Collection, about 270–320 sq ft and a switch you control | One machine | ₹2,198 |
| Main bedroom, about 150 sq ft, door closes | One 130ml on four reeds — 14–18 weeks on six, longer on four, at about ₹78 a week | One bottle | from ₹1,249 |
| Second bedroom, about 130 sq ft, door closes | One 130ml on three or four reeds — comfortably inside a single bottle's range | One bottle | from ₹1,249 |
| Main bathroom, 35–45 sq ft | One 50ml on two or three reeds — the one room where the small bottle is right, not just cheap | One bottle | from ₹749 |
| Second bathroom, used rarely | Defer it. A 50ml if you find you want it, and nothing if you do not — the decision costs nothing to postpone | None for now | ₹0 |
| Kitchen, and the passage between bedrooms | Nothing. A kitchen makes its own smells at full volume twice a day; a passage is measured in seconds of occupancy | None | ₹0 |
| A note on all of the above: the coverage numbers here — about 150 sq ft on six reeds, about 270–320 for the Sukoon — are steady-state figures for a closed room with still air and a standard ceiling. A 1,000 sq ft flat with the balcony open and a fan running is a different flat, and the honest response is to buy for the hours the doors are shut rather than to buy a bigger unit. | |||

Placing it, running it, and what it costs to keep going
Place the machine for the volume and the bottles for the doorway. A Sukoon works best raised off the floor and away from a wall, somewhere the mist has room to disperse rather than settle onto furniture, and not in the direct line between the balcony and the front door. The bottles want the opposite kind of thinking: gentle air movement, at about table height, near where people arrive rather than tucked into a still corner. Keep every bottle out of direct sunlight, which fades fragrance and heats oil, and off the throw of an AC vent, which empties it fast and pushes everything against one wall. Stand each one on a tray or a coaster, because reed oil marks polished wood permanently if the bottle is knocked, and keep them out of reach of children and pets.
Keep the two liquids straight, because this is the mistake that ruins hardware. SOSA reed diffusers are oil-based; the Hotel Collection that runs in a Sukoon is water-based, at three to six drops per tank. They are not interchangeable in either direction — reed oil does not belong in an ultrasonic machine and Hotel Collection does not belong in a reed bottle. There is also no hotel-inspired reed diffuser, so if you have fallen for The Ritz-Carlton-inspired Quiet Luxury or Westin-inspired White Tea Serenity in the living room, the bedrooms will be wearing one of the five reed blends instead, and that is fine — they are separate spaces behind closed doors and nobody experiences them simultaneously. Evening Calm is the quietest of the five for a bedroom.
Then look at the running cost, which is not symmetrical. The three reed bottles are the ongoing expense: on six reeds a 130ml runs 14–18 weeks and a 50ml 6–8, so across those three positions you are replacing something roughly fourteen times a year at full strength — 52 ÷ 16 is 3.25 for each bedroom bottle and 52 ÷ 7 is 7.4 for the bathroom. Run four reeds in the bedrooms and two or three in the bathroom and that drops to nearer eight. Refill rather than rebuy when they empty — a 300ml refill at ₹2,399 is ₹8.00 a millilitre against ₹9.60 for a new 130ml, and a 500ml at ₹3,499 is ₹7.00 — and fit fresh reeds at each refill, because clogged fibre is the commonest reason a bottle seems to fade before it is empty. The Sukoon barely appears in the running cost at all: at three to six drops a tank, a 15ml at ₹299 lasts a long time, and a 100ml at ₹999 longer still. The machine is the expensive purchase and the cheap habit; the bottles are the reverse.
What to buy
Four lines of this table make up the ₹5,495 build. The fifth is what keeps it going once the first bottles empty.
| Buy | What it covers | Lasts | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| One 50ml | A single reed diffuser — the main bathroom at 35–45 sq ft, on two or three reeds — the one room the small bottle suits exactly | 6–8 weeks | from ₹749 |
| One 130ml ★ | The value size — each bedroom, run on four reeds — about ₹78 a week and 14–18 weeks on six | 14–18 weeks | from ₹1,249 |
| The duo | Day & Night duo — both bedrooms in one purchase, then staggered four weeks apart so they never finish together | 6–8 weeks each | ₹1,498 |
| Sukoon | 500ml ultrasonic — the open living-dining at 300–350 sq ft — the only room in the flat past what a bottle can hold | Runs when you switch it on | ₹1,899 |
| 300ml refill | The running cost — keeping three reed positions going at ₹8.00 a millilitre against ₹9.60 for new bottles | Roughly 2 × 130ml fills | ₹2,399 |
Versailles
The mistake I see with flats this size is treating 1,000 sq ft as a single number to be covered. It is not a number, it is a floor plan. Count the doors that actually close and a 1,000 sq ft flat becomes seven air spaces, five of which one bottle already holds. Once you see it that way the shopping list writes itself, and it is shorter than you expected.
The second mistake is buying the Megh because it is the biggest thing in the range. It covers about 215 sq ft — less than the Sukoon's 270 to 320. Six litres buys runtime and humidity, not area. If one Sukoon genuinely will not hold your living room, the answer is a second Sukoon placed well apart, not a bigger tank. I would rather say that plainly than let anyone spend ₹3,499 on the wrong thing.
And please leave the kitchen and the passage alone. A kitchen is loud, in scent terms, twice a day, and a passage is somewhere people spend four seconds. Those two rooms are where a whole-flat plan quietly turns into six bottles you stop refilling. Four scented spaces in a 1,000 sq ft flat is not a compromise — it is what the flat actually is. A portion of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.
