Can a terrace be scented? No. An outdoor volume is unbounded in every direction and nothing in this range is an outdoor product.
What about a candle outdoors? A candle on an open terrace needs shelter from the wind - a deep vessel and a corner out of the breeze, and never left unattended.
A penthouse in this city is really two homes
Start with the honest part, because it saves money and it is the thing nobody in this category says. A terrace cannot be scented. Fragrance works by accumulating in a volume of air, and an open terrace has no volume - the air above it is continuous with the sky, and on a top floor in a city with regular breeze it moves constantly. No diffuser, no machine and no quantity of oil changes that. Anybody who tries will conclude that the product is weak, when in fact they asked it to do the one thing it cannot do. So if the appeal of this penthouse is its terrace, the appeal of this gift lies elsewhere, and being straightforward about that is more useful than a page pretending otherwise. What that leaves is the indoor half, and in a penthouse the indoor half has a specific character that makes it a genuinely good subject. Penthouse interiors are usually the most open plan of any home type - living, dining and kitchen running together, sometimes a double-height section, often a stair to the terrace level, and large glazed openings on more than one side. That shape is the strongest case in this whole category for a machine, because there are no rooms for bottles to occupy: a single bottle standing in one corner of a connected four hundred square metre volume produces a scented pocket and a great deal of unscented air, which is exactly the complaint people in these homes have. So the gift is the machine, sized on the indoor area only and not on the total built-up figure that includes the terrace. That distinction matters practically. Somebody describing a three thousand two hundred square foot penthouse may have two thousand two hundred square feet of interior and a thousand of open terrace, and the machine should be chosen for the smaller number. The SOSA Vaayu at eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees is rated for up to a thousand cubic metres, stated as about two thousand to three thousand square feet, which covers most penthouse interiors comfortably. It is a waterless cold-air nebuliser: pressurised air breaks undiluted oil into a dry nano-mist fine enough to travel with the air the home is already moving, so it produces one even field rather than pockets, and it reaches the stair, the landing and the volume above a double-height room - none of which a bottle can serve. No water, no heat, no dampness added and no oily film, which is worth having on a top floor in a city with long damp spells. Four hundred millilitre tank lasting up to around seventy-five days a fill. Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons with one, four, eight and twenty-four hour windows, day selection and adjustable intensity. Under thirty-eight decibels, twelve volts at five watts, one hundred and sixty-five by eighty by two hundred and fifteen millimetres, nine hundred grams, black or white, freestanding on a shelf or mounted on a wall or an HVAC return, auto-stop and key lock, CE, RoHS and SGS, made in India, and four one hundred millilitre hotel-inspired oils included so it runs the first evening. Refills are the waterless nebuliser oils at one thousand and forty-nine rupees for a hundred grams or one thousand eight hundred and forty-nine for three hundred, never the water-based Hotel Collection at two hundred and ninety-nine rupees, which is a separate system for ultrasonic machines. Two placement and timing notes specific to a Bengaluru penthouse, and they are the difference between this gift working and disappointing. First, the terrace doors stand open through the day in this climate, which makes the interior an unbounded volume during those hours - so the machine should be scheduled for the closed hours from dusk rather than run continuously, and placed in the interior circulation or near an air conditioning return rather than anywhere near the terrace opening, where its output simply leaves. Second, a top floor runs warmer than the floors below it because the roof takes the sun, and warmth lifts fragrance faster, which argues for the cooler and drier registers rather than the sweet ones, and for starting intensity low. Now, what to do about the terrace, since it is what they are proudest of. The answer is a product designed for an occasion rather than a system: a candle. The woodenwick candles at nine hundred and forty-nine rupees and five paise come in gardenia, jasmine, sandalwood and lavender, and soy gift sets start at six hundred and ninety-nine rupees. A candle on a terrace does not scent the terrace - nothing does - but it works within a metre or so of where people are sitting, which for an evening with two or three people around a low table is the whole of the relevant space. Two safety points, because an open terrace is the worst place for a flame: it needs to be in a deep vessel or a lantern and in a corner out of the breeze, away from soft furnishings, paper, dry plants and anything aerosol, and it should never be left unattended, particularly with the wind that arrives ahead of rain. If the household would rather not have a flame outdoors at all, the honest alternative is nothing outdoors, plus a strong indoor arrangement so the terrace doors are opening onto a house that smells finished. Three closing honesty notes. If the interior is under roughly two thousand square feet, bottles are the correct gift regardless of the address or the view: Morning Freshness at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees for fifty millilitres and one thousand two hundred and forty-nine for one hundred and thirty; Garden Bloom and Evening Calm at seven hundred and ninety-nine and one thousand two hundred and ninety-nine; Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew at eight hundred and forty-nine and one thousand three hundred and forty-nine; and a duo set at one thousand four hundred and ninety-eight to two thousand five hundred and ninety-eight rupees. If the penthouse is brand new, nothing starts on day one - paint, polish, varnish and new joinery need a few weeks of open windows first, and in a wet spell that stretches. And bedrooms with closed doors sit outside a machine's field, so a bottle belongs in the main bedroom whatever else is bought. Fragrance is a finishing touch and never a fix.
An indoor one that can be scented and a terrace that cannot - so buy for the first and be honest about the second
Honest about the terrace, thorough about the rest.

Versailles
The Vaayu is the most expensive thing we make and we turn down more orders for it than for anything else in the range. Not because we do not want to sell it - because most homes do not need it. It covers up to a thousand cubic metres, roughly two to three thousand square feet, and that is a villa, a penthouse, a large open-plan flat or a house with a double-height room. An ordinary 2BHK is not that, and in an ordinary 2BHK a reed diffuser at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees does the job better than eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees of machine would. So the question we ask is never what somebody spent on their house. It is how many cubic metres of air are in it.
The second thing we say, and almost nobody expects it, is wait a few weeks. A brand-new home smells of paint, varnish, polish, cement and new wood, and those are not smells to cover - they need open windows and time, and they go on their own. Give the machine at the housewarming by all means, but tell them the scenting starts once the building has finished smelling of being built. It is the same rule we apply to a new car, for the same reason: adding fragrance to a smell that is fading anyway is how a good product gets blamed for a bad result.
Two honest limits. Reed diffusers do not fail in large homes, they simply do not reach - a diffuser on a console table scents the area around that console table, which is not a fault, it is physics, and several of them is a real alternative to one machine. And there are two machines above the Vaayu, the Angaan and the Meenar, which are HVAC units for showrooms and hotel floors rather than houses - so if a home is genuinely far beyond three thousand square feet, message us rather than assuming more money solves it.
