Sukoon ₹1,899
Hotel Collection 100ml ₹999
Morning Freshness ₹749
Oil refill 500ml ₹3,499
Megh 6L ₹3,499
The reed side, year one. One source: ₹749 + ₹3,499 = ₹4,248. Three sources: ₹2,347 of bottles + ₹6,998 of oil = ₹9,345.
The machine side, as a floor. ₹1,899 includes three 15ml fragrances. Beyond that, one 100ml at ₹999 a year makes year one ₹2,898 and three years ₹4,896 — a floor, because no consumption rate is published.
The thing cost cannot settle. A machine runs when switched on; a bottle runs while you are out. If you want the flat to smell of something when you walk in, the bottle is already doing the job you are trying to buy.

2. The reed side, year one, with every purchase listed. One source: 50ml ₹749 + 500ml ₹3,499 = ₹4,248, covering 6–8 weeks then 14–18 months. Two sources: duo ₹1,498 + ₹3,499 = ₹4,997 for 36–48 weeks in both. Three sources: ₹749 + ₹799 + ₹799 = ₹2,347 of bottles plus two 500ml at ₹6,998 = ₹9,345 for roughly 46–61 weeks.
3. The machine side, stated as a floor. Sukoon ₹1,899 arrives with three 15ml Hotel Collection fragrances — 45ml in the box. After that, fragrance is 15ml ₹299, 100ml ₹999 or 300ml ₹1,799. At one 100ml a year the machine is ₹2,898 in year one and ₹4,896 over three.
4. Why that is a floor and not a forecast. SOSA publishes no per-fill fragrance consumption rate for the Sukoon — no millilitres per tank, no fills per bottle. So I can tell you what fragrance costs and I cannot tell you how fast you will use it. Every machine figure here assumes the smallest sensible purchase after the included 45ml, and your real number can only be higher.
5. Three years, both sides. One reed source: ₹749 + two 500ml at ₹6,998 + one ₹749 bottle for fresh reeds = ₹8,496. Two sources in two rooms: roughly ₹18,993 to ₹20,491. Three sources: roughly ₹24,000 to ₹30,000. Sukoon at the floor: ₹4,896; at two 100ml a year, ₹7,893.
6. The line the arithmetic cannot cross. One machine is one space. Two closed bedrooms need two machines — ₹3,798 before any fragrance — so for separate rooms the machine never overtakes bottles, however many bottles there are.
7. And the hours matter as much as the rupees. A reed diffuser runs continuously and unattended; a machine runs while it is on. If what you want is a flat that smells of something when you walk in after work, bottles already do that and a machine does not.
8. Two machines to rule out on the way past. The Megh at ₹3,499 is 6L and about 100 hours of runtime but only about 215 sq ft — less coverage than a Sukoon, never an upgrade to it. The Vaayu at ₹11,999 is a commercial cold-air nebuliser running neat oil; in a flat it is absurd.
Composed and handmade in small batches in Pune, tested through 45°C summer heat and 85% monsoon humidity; a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Part one — why the two formats scale differently
Every version of this question is really about scaling. One bottle against one machine is a close call decided by preference; five bottles against one machine looks like a rout until you ask where the five bottles were standing.
Hotel Collection100ml · ₹999The flat cost of a Sukoon is its appeal and its limit. It does not become dearer when you have more rooms; it simply does not reach them. Two closed bedrooms need two machines, at ₹3,798 before a drop of fragrance, and there the arithmetic stops favouring the machine. The Boond at ₹899 covers about 150 sq ft on a 300ml tank of roughly six hours. And the 6L Megh at ₹3,499 is about 100 hours of runtime across about 215 sq ft — less coverage than the Sukoon, at nearly twice the price. It is a runtime and humidity machine, never a coverage upgrade.Part two — the reed side, costed over one year and three
Here is my own half of the model with every purchase named, so you can check it against the product pages rather than take it from me. The three-year column assumes one ₹749 bottle a year purely to renew a set of fibre reeds, since replacement reeds are not sold separately. The starred row is the setup this page exists to compare against.
| Sources you run at once | Year one purchases | Year one total, shown | Three-year purchases | Three-year total, shown |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Three, in one connected open space ★ | ₹749 + ₹799 + ₹799 of bottles, plus 2 × ₹3,499 of oil | ₹2,347 + ₹6,998 = ₹9,345 | Bottles, then oil at ₹582–₹750 a month | Roughly ₹24,000–₹30,000 |
| One | 50ml ₹749 + 500ml ₹3,499 | ₹4,248, covering roughly 15–20 months | Add one more ₹3,499 and one ₹749 for reeds | ₹749 + ₹6,998 + ₹749 = ₹8,496 |
| Two, in separate closed rooms | Duo ₹1,498 + 500ml ₹3,499 | ₹4,997 for 36–48 weeks in both | Duo, then five 500ml, plus reed renewals | Roughly ₹18,993–₹20,491 |
| Two, both in one open space | Two 50ml from ₹1,498 + ₹3,499 | ₹4,997, same total, one space | As above | Roughly ₹18,993–₹20,491 |
| Steady state, any count, oil only | Nothing but refills | ₹194–₹250 a month per source | Multiply by sources and by 36 | ₹6,984–₹9,000 per source |
| One 130ml instead of one 50ml | 130ml ₹1,349 + 500ml ₹3,499 | ₹4,848, fewer reorders, same room | Same oil, fewer purchase moments | Roughly ₹9,000 |
| The honest caveat: every figure is a SOSA price from the live store or arithmetic on one, with the working shown. No competing product or brand is named, priced or rated anywhere on this page. Lifespans — 6–8 weeks for a 50ml, 14–18 for a 130ml, 8–11 months for a 300ml refill, 14–18 for a 500ml in a single bottle — are typical ranges rather than guarantees. Warmth raises the evaporation rate so a bottle finishes sooner in a hot room; high humidity slows evaporation from the reed surface so a monsoon month can feel quieter while the bottle lasts longer; a draught from an AC, a fan or an open balcony weakens the room and empties the bottle early at the same time. Those are directions of effect with no rate claimed. Three-year totals are rounded bands rather than quotations, because they depend on where in each lifespan range your flat actually falls. Reed count is the volume control and bottle size the duration control: a 130ml at six reeds fills the same room as a 50ml and simply does it for longer. There is no 100ml reed diffuser — the sizes are 50ml and 130ml. Refills are oil only and replacement reeds are not sold separately, which is why a ₹749 reed-renewal bottle appears in the three-year column. | ||||

Part three — the number I do not publish, and what I do instead
Any cost model for a machine needs one figure I cannot give you: how much fragrance a Sukoon uses per fill. SOSA publishes no per-fill fragrance consumption rate for it — no millilitres per tank, no tanks per bottle, no hours per millilitre. What is published is the hardware — a 500ml water tank, 16–18 hours on low, a remote, steady, 2H and 4H timers, 270–320 sq ft, three 15ml Hotel Collection fragrances in the box — and the price of fragrance: 15ml ₹299, 100ml ₹999, 300ml ₹1,799. That is enough to build a floor and not enough to build a forecast, and I would rather say so than invent a consumption figure that flatters whichever answer I wanted.
So here is the floor, constructed explicitly. The machine arrives with 45ml of fragrance in the box; assume that after those you buy one 100ml at ₹999 a year. Year one is ₹1,899 + ₹999 = ₹2,898. Three years is ₹1,899 + 3 × ₹999 = ₹4,896. At two 100ml a year, three years is ₹7,893; at a 300ml annually, ₹7,296. Every one of those is a lower bound, because a machine run harder consumes more and I have no measurement of how much more. Read ₹2,898 and ₹4,896 as "at least this", never "about this".
There is a reason the reed side can be stated more tightly. A reed diffuser's consumption is its lifespan — 6–8 weeks for a 50ml, 14–18 for a 130ml — while a machine's depends on setting, hours and how often the water gets topped up, so a single published rate would mislead in most homes. The consequence for your decision is simple: the reed figures here are ranges you can plan against, and the machine figures are floors you should plan above. If a crossover looks close on those terms, it is not really close.
Part four — what one machine cannot do that three bottles can
Cost is half a comparison; the other half is whether the cheaper option does the same work. Three things separate the formats, and none is strength. The first is doors. Three bottles scent three rooms continuously. One machine scents one connected space of 270–320 sq ft and stops at the first shut door. So a household running three bottles in three rooms is not overspending on a machine's job; it is doing a job the machine cannot take on, and replacing it would need three machines at ₹5,697 before fragrance.
The second is unattended hours. A reed diffuser is releasing at four in the afternoon while the flat is empty, which is why you notice something on the way in. A machine that is off does nothing, and one left running sixteen hours to imitate a bottle is consuming water and fragrance for an empty room — the wasteful version of the very thing you are trying to avoid.
The third is water. An ultrasonic machine works by aerosolising water, so a Sukoon, a Boond and especially a 6L Megh add moisture to the air. A reed diffuser adds none — it is neutral rather than corrective: it does not reduce humidity or do anything to moisture in either direction. In a coastal or monsoon month that can decide the format before any cost model does. And whichever you buy, a fragrance product adds a scent alongside what is already in your air. It removes, neutralises and cleans nothing, so a smell you want gone means finding the source, ventilating or extracting, and only then adding fragrance.
Part five — the crossover, drawn as a table
Six setups, each costed both ways over the same period, with the verdict in the last column. Read the last column as two separate questions — is it cheaper, and does it do the same job — because a yes to the first with a no to the second is not a reason to buy.
| What you run today | Reed cost, year one | Reed cost, three years | Sukoon floor, same period | Cheaper — and does it do the same job |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Three sources in one open living-dining ★ | ₹9,345 | ₹24,000–₹30,000 | ₹2,898 · ₹4,896 | Yes, and yes if you want it on demand. This is the crossover |
| One source in one room | ₹4,248 | ₹8,496 | ₹2,898 · ₹4,896 | Cheaper on paper, but no — the bottle runs while you are out |
| Two sources in two closed bedrooms | ₹4,997 | ₹18,993–₹20,491 | Two machines: ₹3,798 plus fragrance | No. One machine cannot serve two doors, at any price |
| Two sources, both in one open space | ₹4,997 | ₹18,993–₹20,491 | ₹2,898 · ₹4,896 | Close over three years. Decide on control, not cost |
| Four sources across a whole flat | Roughly ₹12,000 upward | ₹778–₹1,000 a month of oil alone | One machine covers one of those spaces | Cheaper only for the one space it can reach |
| Bottles plus candles bought monthly | Bottles as above, plus ₹379 a candle | Whatever the habit totals | ₹2,898 · ₹4,896 | Yes if the habit is all aimed at one room you sit in |
| The honest caveat: every Sukoon figure in this table is a floor, not a measurement — SOSA publishes no per-fill fragrance consumption rate for the machine, so the totals assume the smallest sensible fragrance purchase after the three 15ml bottles included in the box and can only be higher in practice. Reed totals are arithmetic on published prices and published lifespan ranges, which are typical rather than guaranteed. Three-year figures are rounded bands. No competing product or brand is named, priced or rated anywhere on this page. Coverage figures are the published ones: Sukoon 270–320 sq ft, Boond about 150 sq ft, Megh about 215 sq ft — the Megh covers less than the Sukoon and is a runtime and humidity machine, never a coverage upgrade. Ultrasonic machines add moisture to the air; reed diffusers add none and do nothing to humidity in either direction. Reed oil never goes into a machine, the water-based Hotel Collection never goes into a reed bottle, and neither goes into a Vaayu. No product on either side removes, neutralises, masks or cleans any smell. | ||||
Part six — seven setups, seven decisions
The purchase, once you have counted air spaces rather than products. Three of these rows end with buying no machine at all, and one ends with buying nothing new.
| Your setup | What I would buy | The total, with the working | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Three bottles in one open space, evenings only ★ | Sukoon ₹1,899, and stop rebuying bottles for that space | ₹1,899 + ₹999 a year at the floor = ₹2,898 | Nothing while it is off, and nothing beyond one space |
| Two bedrooms with doors, plus a living room | Day & Night duo ₹1,498 and one more 50ml | ₹1,498 + ₹749 = ₹2,247, then oil | Not on demand — there is no switch to press |
| One room, one bottle, wondering about an upgrade | Nothing. Refill what you have | ₹2,399 for 8–11 months, or ₹3,499 for 14–18 | Does not give you timers, and you have not asked for them |
| Large open plan and you are out all day | Two 50ml at opposite ends, from ₹749 each | ₹1,548 of bottles, then ₹388–₹500 a month | Will not make the space loud on arrival — nothing does |
| You want guests to walk into something at 8pm | Sukoon ₹1,899 on the 2H timer | ₹1,899 plus fragrance from ₹299 | Not a saving, and I will not present it as one |
| Small bedroom, 150 sq ft, on demand | Boond ₹899, 300ml, about 6 hours a fill | ₹899 plus fragrance from ₹299 | Does not cover a living room; adds water to the air |
| You saw the 6L machine and assumed it covers more | It does not. Sukoon ₹1,899 if you need coverage | Megh ₹3,499 is about 215 sq ft against 270–320 | Megh buys runtime and moisture, never reach |
Versailles
The first time I tried to build this comparison properly I got stuck for a week on a number I did not have. I could price every part of the machine and every millilitre of fragrance that goes in it. What I could not tell anybody was how quickly a household actually gets through that fragrance, because it depends on the setting, the hours and how often somebody remembers to fill the water.
The tempting solution was to pick a consumption figure that made the comparison come out somewhere respectable; it is undetectable from outside. What I did instead was write the floor and mark it as a floor — ₹1,899 plus one ₹999 bottle a year — and say in the same breath that your real number can only be higher. It makes the machine look worse than an invented figure would have, and it is the only version I can defend.
The other thing I decided early is that this page would not pretend cheapness settles it. Three bottles in one open room really are dearer than one Sukoon, and the Sukoon really is the better answer there. Three bottles in three rooms are not competing with a Sukoon at all. The count of products was never the question. The count of doors was.
Everything is made in small batches in Pune. A part of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali, whichever side of this comparison you land on.

A reed diffuser adds fragrance to a room. It does not clean, purify or filter air, remove or neutralise cooking, damp or smoke smells, reduce humidity, or change how anyone feels. A reed diffuser adds no moisture to the air; ultrasonic machines work by aerosolising water and therefore do. A persistent musty smell indicates moisture that needs finding and drying, and SOSA sells no dehumidifier or air purifier. Ventilate or extract first; add fragrance second. Evaporation rate rises with warmth and falls with humidity, and airflow carries scent away from the bottle — so performance varies with season, ventilation, ceiling height and room use; longevity figures are typical ranges, not guarantees. Not noticing a constant fragrance is ordinary olfactory adaptation; the reliable checks are leaving the room and returning, or asking someone who has just arrived. Strength figures are positions on SOSA’s own internal scale, not an industry standard.
