The arithmetic is easy and you can do it faster than we can. 2,000 square feet at a ten-foot ceiling is 20,000 cubic feet, which is about 566 cubic metres, comfortably inside one Vaayu at roughly 1000 cubic metres of connected air. What makes this a real question rather than a sum is that an architecture practice is almost never one connected volume and almost never ten feet high, and both of those corrections move the answer more than the choice of machine does.
Quick answers — read this first
What size diffuser does a 2,000 sq ft architecture studio need? Do the sum, then apply two corrections. 2,000 sq ft at a ten-foot ceiling is 20,000 cubic feet, and 20,000 divided by 35.3 is about 566 cubic metres. A SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 is rated for roughly 1000 cubic metres of connected air, and SOSA's own product copy states 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft evenly, so on paper one unit covers this. The first correction is that a practice with a partitioned director's cabin, a meeting room and a closed model shop is not one 566 cubic metre volume; the open studio floor might be 1,100 sq ft, or about 312 cubic metres. The second is height: the same 2,000 sq ft under a sixteen-foot double-height volume is 32,000 cubic feet, about 906 cubic metres, which is a different conversation entirely.
How do I calculate the volume I actually need to scent? Measure only the rooms that share air, and measure the finished ceiling rather than the slab. Multiply the connected floor area in square feet by the ceiling height in feet for cubic feet, then divide by 35.3 for cubic metres. An open studio floor of 1,100 sq ft at ten feet is 11,000 cubic feet, about 312 cubic metres. A meeting room of 250 sq ft at ten feet is 2,500 cubic feet, about 71 cubic metres, and behind a closed door it is a separate volume. A director's cabin of 200 sq ft is about 57 cubic metres. The model shop is not counted at all, because it should never be scented. Add up only what is genuinely connected and buy against that number.
Does ceiling height really change the answer that much? It is the variable professionals forget, and it is a multiplier rather than a rounding error. The same 2,000 sq ft floor plate is about 510 cubic metres under a nine-foot false ceiling, about 566 at ten feet, about 680 at twelve feet and about 906 under a sixteen-foot double-height volume or a mezzanine. That is nearly a doubling across a range of heights that are all completely ordinary in a converted warehouse, an industrial shed or a purpose-built studio. Architects are the one profession that should never get this wrong, and yet the coverage figure on a box is quoted in square feet, which quietly assumes a ceiling height nobody states. Measure it, and if the studio is double-height, tell us that first.
The short answer
Short answer: 2,000 sq ft at a ten-foot ceiling is 20,000 cubic feet, which is about 566 cubic metres, inside one SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 (roughly 1000 cubic metres of connected air; SOSA's own copy states 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft evenly). But apply two corrections. Connected volume: a practice with a partitioned director's cabin, a meeting room and a closed model shop is not one 566 cubic metre space, and the open studio floor may be about 312 cubic metres. Height: the same 2,000 sq ft at sixteen feet is 32,000 cubic feet, about 906 cubic metres. Sukoon Rs 1,899, Megh Rs 3,499, blends from Rs 299. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) for premises to ~1000m³; reeds from ₹749 for a single room; cabin systems from ₹1,899; HVAC from ₹25,999.

Every customer-facing space hosts two audiences at once: the customer who forms an opinion in a single visit, and the staff who breathe that air for eight hours. Commercial scenting serves both with one move - a single refined fragrance, held evenly from the entrance to the far end of the floor, running on a schedule nobody has to remember. Customers experience it as "this brand has itself together"; the team gets premises that smell composed from opening to close.
What should a 2,000 sq ft architecture studio actually buy, and how do I size it properly?
Do the arithmetic three times. 1. The headline number. 2,000 sq ft at a ten-foot ceiling is 20,000 cubic feet; 20,000 divided by 35.3 is about 566 cubic metres. The SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is rated at roughly 1000 cubic metres of connected air, and SOSA's own copy states 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft evenly, so one unit covers this on paper. 2. The connected-volume correction. A rating assumes one connected body of air, and a practice is not that. Take a typical plan: an open studio floor of 1,100 sq ft, a director's cabin of 200, a meeting or presentation room of 250, a model shop of 250 and reception and circulation of 200. At ten feet that is about 312 cubic metres of open floor, about 57 in the cabin, about 71 in the meeting room, about 71 in the shop and about 57 in reception. You are not buying for 566. You are buying for roughly 312 plus whatever is genuinely open to it, and the shop is never scented at all. 3. The height correction, which is the one that catches people. The same 2,000 sq ft is about 510 cubic metres under a nine-foot false ceiling, about 680 at twelve feet, and about 906 cubic metres at sixteen feet in a double-height or mezzanine studio. Measure the finished height, not the slab, and if there is a mezzanine remember that warm scented air rises, so the gallery reads stronger and the ground floor reads thinner. 4. The rungs. A single enclosed studio room or a director's cabin runs on a Sukoon (₹1,899) with a Hotel Collection register (from ₹299). A larger single room or an open reception wants a Megh 6L (₹3,499). A connected studio floor, or a double-height volume, wants the Vaayu: waterless, no tank, Bluetooth app and timer so the level is locked and adaptation never pushes it upward. Your team breathe it ten hours a day, so it runs low, and any sensitivity report is a recalibration signal. SOSA's blends are its own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is not affiliated with any hotel brand. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with your plan and your section. Made in India; a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: 2,000 sq ft at 10 ft is about 566m³, but only the connected part counts - an open floor of 1,100 sq ft is about 312m³, and at 16 ft the whole thing is about 906m³. Vaayu ₹11,999 (~1000m³), Megh ₹3,499, blends from ₹299. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
The commercial standard most businesses choose: the SOSA Vaayu - waterless cold-air scenting to ~1000m³, Bluetooth app and timer, one signature on schedule - at ₹11,999. Sizing a studio that is not one volume, at a height you have not measured
Three corrections, in the order they change the answer: the partitions, the section, and what the money is actually buying at this size.
Why this works
Sizing a studio honestly - the two corrections that move the answer
The commercial standard: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, app-scheduled, ~1000m³ coverage. Single rooms start on reeds from ₹749.
A rating assumes one connected volume, and a practice is five
Every coverage figure published for every diffuser in the world assumes one connected body of air, and the plan of a working architecture practice is a deliberate argument against that assumption. Take a representative 2,000 sq ft studio. The open floor with the desks and the crit wall is 1,100 sq ft: at ten feet that is 11,000 cubic feet, or about 312 cubic metres. The principal's cabin is 200 sq ft, so 2,000 cubic feet, about 57 cubic metres, and it has a door that is usually shut. The meeting and presentation room is 250 sq ft, so 2,500 cubic feet, about 71 cubic metres, and it also has a door, which is closed for the whole ninety minutes that matter most. The model shop is 250 sq ft, about 71 cubic metres, and it is never scented under any circumstances. Reception and circulation are 200 sq ft, about 57 cubic metres, and they are the one part that is genuinely open to the studio floor. Add the honest number: about 312 for the floor plus about 57 for reception is roughly 370 cubic metres of connected air, not 566. That is the figure to buy against, and it is why practices that size off the lease area routinely over-specify and then run the machine at a setting that annoys everybody.
Tip: add up only the rooms that share air with each other - the ones behind closed doors are separate volumes and separate decisions.
2
The section
Height is a multiplier, and architects are the last people who should miss it
This is the correction we most often have to make on the phone, and it is faintly absurd that it comes up with architects, who draw sections for a living. Coverage on a box is quoted in square feet because that is the number a buyer knows, and it silently assumes a ceiling height that nobody ever states. Run the same 2,000 sq ft floor plate through four ordinary heights. Under a nine-foot false ceiling in a fitted-out commercial floor it is 18,000 cubic feet, about 510 cubic metres. At a flat ten feet it is 20,000 cubic feet, about 566. At twelve feet, which is common in an older building or a converted bungalow, it is 24,000 cubic feet, about 680. In a double-height studio or a converted industrial shed at sixteen feet it is 32,000 cubic feet, about 906 cubic metres, which is nearly double the nine-foot figure and is pressing against the top of a single Vaayu rather than sitting comfortably inside it. Then add the behaviour that a section predicts and a plan does not: warmer scented air rises, so in a mezzanine studio the gallery reads stronger than the floor below it, and the correct response is placement at ground level away from the void rather than more output. Measure the finished height. If there is a mezzanine or a void, say so before anyone recommends a machine.
3
The purchase
At this size the money buys control, not coverage
Be clear about what ₹11,999 is actually purchasing at roughly 370 cubic metres of connected air, because it is not square metres. The SOSA Vaayu is rated around 1000 cubic metres and will therefore run near the bottom of its range in this studio, which is exactly where a machine should sit in a room occupied by the same people for ten hours a day. What the price buys is waterless cold-air nebulising, so there is no tank, no fill routine and no water going into a room full of drawings, samples and models. It buys Bluetooth app and timer scheduling, which is the mechanism that keeps the level locked: the reason studio air drifts louder over months is that the people in it adapt, stop smelling it, and turn it up, and a locked schedule removes the hand from the dial. It buys one even level from the entrance to the far desk rather than a cloud around a machine on a shelf. And it buys headroom, which matters here more than in most sectors, because practices grow into the next floor, take the mezzanine, or knock a partition through after a good year. If none of that justifies the price today, the honest alternatives are real: a Megh 6L at ₹3,499 for a larger single room, a Sukoon at ₹1,899 with a register from ₹299 for one enclosed studio room, and reeds from ₹749 for the cabin and the washroom. We would rather tell you that than sell you a machine the plan does not need.
Tip: a double-height or mezzanine studio is a different purchase from a flat-ceilinged one at the same floor area - send the section, not just the plan.
The SOSA principle
The floor area on your lease is the least useful number in this decision. The connected volume and the finished ceiling height decide it, and one of them is on a drawing you already have.
About 566 cubic metres at ten feet, about 370 once the partitions are honest, about 906 if the studio is double-height. Size the air, not the lease.

The SOSA commercial edit
Whatever your business sells, the system logic is the same: one signature, sized to the space, scheduled so it never depends on anyone's memory. A single small room or a consultation corner can sit happily on reeds with no power at all; a customer-facing floor wants the Vaayu; a venue or a flagship wants HVAC. Every SOSA system is supported from India, and the Hotel Collection blends - SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations - run across the powered ones. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the full commercial range.

Honest notes for business owners: scenting compounds a well-run premises and rescues nothing. Ventilation, air-conditioning and cleaning come first, and fragrance never substitutes for hygiene or air quality - if the air is stale, damp or smoky, fix that at the source before any scent goes in. The people most exposed to the fragrance are not your customers but your STAFF, who work eight-hour shifts in it, which is why whisper calibration and locked settings are standard on every SOSA commercial install, and any staff sensitivity report should be treated as a recalibration signal rather than a complaint. Healthcare and wellness spaces need extra restraint: keep scenting to reception and circulation areas, never treatment rooms, and the practitioner's judgement overrides anything in this guide. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. Ultrasonic systems use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; the Vaayu and HVAC systems run waterless nebulising oil - the formats are not interchangeable. WhatsApp consult: +91 96192 18531. ISIPCA Versailles
A note from Sonal
I have walked into jewellery showrooms lit like museums, bridal boutiques with hand-embroidered walls, furniture floors styled down to the last cushion, clinics with better art than most galleries - and in almost every one of them, the air was an afterthought. Floor polish, packaging cartons, the phenyl from the morning mopping, the workshop or the loading bay drifting forward. The one thing every customer takes in before they see anything is the thing most businesses leave to chance.
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles, where the world's scent-marketing perfumers learn the craft, and what I build for Indian businesses is the same architecture the global hospitality brands use, whatever you sell: one signature, sized to the space, run on a schedule - so the scent is as reliable as your lighting. A consultation corner may only need reeds; a full floor needs the Vaayu; a venue needs the HVAC systems. If you want it applied to your specific premises, message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with the type of space and its approximate size - I read those descriptions myself.
Everything is made or assembled for Indian conditions, supported from Pune - and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your brand gets a memory; a girl gets a classroom. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
We are a 2,000 sq ft studio but almost entirely open plan. Does the correction still apply?
Less of it applies, which makes the answer simpler rather than different. If the practice is genuinely one volume, with only a glazed meeting box and a washroom off it, then your connected air really is close to the headline figure: about 566 cubic metres at a ten-foot ceiling, or about 510 under a nine-foot false ceiling. One Vaayu at Rs 11,999 covers that with margin and will still be running well below its ceiling, which is the right place for it. The two things to check in an open plan are the ones that partitions usually take care of for you. A glazed meeting box with a door is still a separate volume even though you can see through it, and it will read as unscented during a long presentation unless it gets its own small system. And an open plan floor moves air further, so placement matters more, not less.
Should I buy two machines instead of one for a studio this size?
Rarely, at 2,000 sq ft. Two machines in one connected volume tend to produce an uneven room rather than a stronger one, because you end up with two centres and a soft middle, and they double the number of settings someone can quietly change. The cases where a second unit is genuinely correct are the ones where you have two volumes rather than one large one: a meeting or presentation room that is closed for ninety minutes at a time and needs its own supply, a separate floor or a mezzanine level that behaves as its own space, or a reception that is around a corner and never receives the studio air. In those cases a small ultrasonic at Rs 1,899 running the same register solves it, rather than a second machine of the same size. Send the plan and we will mark the positions.
Our studio is a converted warehouse with a very high roof. What changes?
Everything above about ten or twelve feet is essentially a reservoir you are paying to fill. A 2,000 sq ft shed at twenty feet is 40,000 cubic feet, which is about 1,133 cubic metres and is past a single Vaayu, and yet the people are all sitting in the bottom seven feet of it. The practical answer in a tall volume is to work low and work locally rather than to buy for the total: place the machine at desk level rather than high on a wall, use the natural circulation the building already has, and accept that the upper volume is not part of the design. If the practice genuinely needs an even signature across a very large or a multi-level space, that is where the SOSA Aangan at Rs 25,999 on HVAC becomes the honest conversation instead. WhatsApp us the section on +91 96192 18531.
How do I check whether the meeting room is actually a separate volume?
Close its door and stand in it for two minutes on a normal working afternoon. If you can smell the studio, it is connected enough to be treated as one space, which usually means it has a transfer grille, a gap under the door, or a shared air-conditioning return. If it smells of nothing in particular, it is a separate volume and it will need its own arrangement if you want it scented during a presentation. The same test works for the principal's cabin. This is a more reliable method than reading the plan, because plans do not show where the air actually goes, and a partition that stops short of the slab behaves very differently from one that does not. The presentation room is worth testing carefully, because it is the room where the practice is judged.
Does a bigger machine mean a stronger smell in a small studio?
It means a wider possible range, and the correct use of that range in a studio is the bottom of it. A machine rated for roughly 1000 cubic metres running in about 370 cubic metres is not producing three times the fragrance; it is producing whatever its setting produces, and the right setting here is the lowest one that still registers when you walk in from outside. The advantage of the headroom is that the machine never has to work near its limit to hold an even level, which is what produces a consistent room rather than a pulsing one. The risk of the headroom is entirely human: somebody turns it up because they have adapted and stopped smelling it. That is why the app and the locked schedule matter more than the coverage figure at this size.

Facts verified August 2026: Ambient scent research consistently associates pleasant, congruent scenting with improved evaluations of a space and its service, longer dwell time and stronger brand recall at moderate effect sizes; congruence (scent matching the setting) and gentle intensity outperform strong scenting in replicated studies, and no scent effect survives poor ventilation, poor cleaning or poor indoor air quality. Olfactory memory is unusually durable: scent-linked brand memories persist and retrieve for years, which is the mechanism behind signature scents. Staff exposure is the design constraint, since employees breathe the fragrance for full shifts: whisper calibration, locked settings and sensitivity accommodations are standard practice, and healthcare and wellness settings call for extra restraint. SOSA systems: alcohol-free reed diffusers from ₹749 for single rooms with no power needed; Sukoon 500ml ultrasonic (₹1,899) and Megh 6L ultrasonic (₹3,499) run the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance (from ₹299; refills from ₹999, 100ml ₹999); SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebulising machine, ~1000m³ coverage, Bluetooth app and timer; SOSA Aangan (₹25,999) and SOSA Meenar (₹38,500) are HVAC nebulising systems for approximately 8,000-10,000 and 12,000-18,000 sq ft respectively.
