The arithmetic everyone starts with is 1,500 square feet at a ten-foot ceiling, which is 15,000 cubic feet, which is about 425 cubic metres. That number is correct and almost useless, because a dermatology clinic is not 425 cubic metres of connected air. It is a reception and waiting area, a corridor, four or five treatment and procedure rooms behind closed doors, a laser room, a store holding consumables and medication, a staff room and washrooms. You are sizing for the front of house alone, and doing that arithmetic honestly usually halves the answer before you spend anything.
Quick answers — read this first
What size diffuser does a 1,500 sq ft dermatology clinic need? Smaller than the floor area suggests. At a ten-foot ceiling, 1,500 sq ft is 15,000 cubic feet, which is 15,000 divided by 35.3, or about 425 cubic metres. But a skin clinic is a set of separate rooms and you scent only the reception, the waiting area and the corridor that joins them. A typical front of house in a clinic that size is 550 to 750 sq ft, so take 650 sq ft at ten feet: 6,500 cubic feet, about 184 cubic metres. A SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 is rated at roughly 1000 cubic metres of connected air and covers that with a large margin, running near the bottom of its range, which is where a clinic machine should sit anyway. A Megh at Rs 3,499 suits an open reception and a Sukoon at Rs 1,899 a compact enclosed one. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with the layout.

How do I work out the volume I actually need to scent? Measure only the rooms that share air with the waiting patient: the reception, the waiting area, and the corridor if it is open to them. Multiply that floor area in square feet by the finished ceiling height in feet to get cubic feet, then divide by 35.3 for cubic metres. A 650 sq ft front of house at ten feet is 6,500 cubic feet, about 184 cubic metres. The same 650 sq ft under a nine-foot false ceiling is 5,850 cubic feet, about 166 cubic metres. A 300 sq ft compact reception at ten feet is 3,000 cubic feet, about 85 cubic metres. Closed treatment and procedure rooms are separate air behind doors, and they are never scented anyway, so they do not belong in the number.

What do I do about the closed treatment rooms in a clinic that size? Nothing, in most cases, and that is the correct answer rather than an omission. Treatment rooms, procedure rooms, laser and injectable rooms, recovery seats, sterile and consumable storage and anywhere medication or refrigerated product is kept stay unscented. The rooms that can legitimately take something are the non-clinical closed rooms - a doctor's private cabin, an accounts or admin office, a staff room, a washroom - and for those a reed diffuser from Rs 749 is the right tool: silent, no power, nothing to switch on and nothing anyone can turn up. Each of those rooms is about 34 cubic metres at 120 sq ft and a ten-foot ceiling, which is a single bottle's job.
The short answer
Short answer: A 1,500 sq ft dermatology clinic at a ten-foot ceiling is 15,000 cubic feet, about 425 cubic metres - but that is not one connected volume. Scent only the reception, waiting area and connecting corridor: typically 550 to 750 sq ft, so about 6,500 cubic feet or 184 cubic metres at ten feet, and about 166 at a nine-foot false ceiling. Sukoon Rs 1,899 for a compact reception of about 85 cubic metres, Megh Rs 3,499 for an open one, Vaayu Rs 11,999 (about 1000 cubic metres, app and timer, waterless) for a connected front of house. Closed non-clinical rooms take a reed from Rs 749; treatment, procedure, laser and injectable rooms take nothing. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) for premises to ~1000m³; reeds from ₹749 for a single room; cabin systems from ₹1,899; HVAC from ₹25,999.

Every customer-facing space hosts two audiences at once: the customer who forms an opinion in a single visit, and the staff who breathe that air for eight hours. Commercial scenting serves both with one move - a single refined fragrance, held evenly from the entrance to the far end of the floor, running on a schedule nobody has to remember. Customers experience it as "this brand has itself together"; the team gets premises that smell composed from opening to close.
Straight answer
What diffuser should a 1,500 sq ft dermatology clinic buy, and how do I size it properly?
Do the arithmetic twice. 1. The number everyone starts with. 1,500 sq ft at a ten-foot ceiling is 15,000 cubic feet; divided by 35.3, that is about 425 cubic metres. 2. The correction that changes the answer. A skin clinic is not one volume. Behind the waiting area sit four or five treatment and procedure rooms with doors, a laser or device room, a store holding consumables and medication, a staff room and washrooms - none of which are scented, all of which are separate air. In a 1,500 sq ft practice the reception, waiting area and connecting corridor are typically 550 to 750 sq ft. Take 650 sq ft at ten feet: 6,500 cubic feet, divided by 35.3, about 184 cubic metres. That is the number to buy against. 3. Measure the finished ceiling. Most clinics run a false ceiling for lighting, ducting and device cabling, which brings the height to nine feet: the same 650 sq ft is then 5,850 cubic feet, about 166 cubic metres. A double-height reception at fifteen feet is 9,750 cubic feet, about 276 cubic metres, which is a different job entirely. 4. The rungs. A compact enclosed reception of about 300 sq ft (3,000 cubic feet, about 85 cubic metres) runs on a Sukoon (₹1,899) with a water-based Hotel Collection register (from ₹299). An open reception and waiting area want a Megh 6L (₹3,499) for longer unattended runs. A connected front of house wants the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999): waterless cold-air nebulising to about 1000m³, no water tank in a clinical environment, Bluetooth app and timer so the low setting is locked. 5. The closed rooms. A doctor's cabin, an admin office or a washroom takes a reed from ₹749 - about 34m³ at 120 sq ft and ten feet, a single bottle's job. Treatment rooms, procedure rooms, laser and injectable rooms, recovery seats, sterile and consumable storage and medication or refrigerated-product stores take nothing at all. Your clinical judgement overrides this page. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with your layout. Made in India; a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Sizing a clinic that is not one volume of air

Three sizing errors specific to skin clinics: counting rooms you will never scent, measuring the slab instead of the finished ceiling, and buying coverage when what you actually need is control.

Why this works
Sizing a skin clinic honestly - the arithmetic that halves the answer
11,500 sq ft at 10 ft = 15,000 cu ft = about 425 cubic metres on paper2Treatment rooms are closed air - size reception, waiting and corridor only3650 sq ft front of house at 10 ft = 6,500 cu ft = about 184 cubic metres4Vaayu Rs 11,999 covers ~1000 cubic metres; Sukoon Rs 1,899 may be enough
The commercial standard: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, app-scheduled, ~1000m³ coverage. Single rooms start on reeds from ₹749.
1
The correction
A skin clinic is six or seven volumes, not one
Every coverage rating in this industry assumes one connected body of air, and a dermatology practice is close to the least connected floor plan in commercial property. A 1,500 sq ft clinic typically breaks down into a reception counter and waiting area of 400 to 550 sq ft, a corridor of 120 to 180 sq ft, four or five treatment and procedure rooms of 100 to 140 sq ft each behind doors, a laser or device room, a consultation room, a store holding consumables and medication, a staff room and one or two washrooms. Run the numbers on the front of house alone: 650 sq ft at a ten-foot ceiling is 6,500 cubic feet, which divided by 35.3 is about 184 cubic metres. A single treatment room of 120 sq ft at the same height is 1,200 cubic feet, about 34 cubic metres, sits behind a closed door, and is never scented in any case. So the clinic that thought it was buying for 425 cubic metres is buying for roughly 184, in a space it fully controls and where every patient who forms an opinion of the practice is actually sitting. This is the correction that stops clinics over-specifying, and occasionally the one that reveals a Sukoon was always going to be enough.
Tip: a coverage rating assumes one connected volume - a clinic floor plan is the opposite of that, deliberately.
2
The ceiling
Measure the finished height, not the slab
Skin clinic interiors almost always run a false ceiling, because there is a great deal to hide: lighting tracks, air-conditioning ducting, cabling for lasers and energy devices, and often extraction runs for the procedure rooms. That usually brings the finished ceiling to nine feet and occasionally to eight and a half, and it moves the arithmetic in your favour. The same 650 sq ft front of house at nine feet is 5,850 cubic feet, about 166 cubic metres, roughly ten per cent less air than the ten-foot figure. Take a tape to the finished surface and note where the false ceiling stops, because it frequently stops at the edge of the reception. The exception is the newer standalone clinic with a double-height entrance or a mezzanine consultation gallery, which is a genuinely different job: 650 sq ft under a fifteen-foot volume is 9,750 cubic feet, about 276 cubic metres, and a machine sized for the flat-ceiling version will read as absent in it. Height is not a rounding error. It is a multiplier, and it is the most common reason a correctly chosen machine underperforms in a space that looked straightforward on paper.
3
The purchase
At 184 cubic metres you are buying control, not coverage
Here is the honest position. The SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is rated at roughly 1000m³, so at 184m³ it is around five times the coverage this clinic strictly needs and will run near the bottom of its range. That is not waste, but be clear about what the money is buying, because it is not square metres. It is waterless cold-air nebulising, which puts no water into a clinical environment and needs no tank, fill routine or descaling. It is Bluetooth app and timer scheduling, which is how a low setting stays low over the months instead of drifting upward every time somebody decides the machine has stopped working. It is one even level from the front door to the far waiting chair rather than a cloud around a machine, and the ability to drop the level or switch it off for a particular patient or a heavy procedure day in ten seconds. If none of that is worth ₹11,999 today, the honest alternative is a Megh 6L at ₹3,499 for an open reception, or a Sukoon at ₹1,899 with a register from ₹299 for a compact enclosed one. Both are real answers at this size and we would rather say so than sell you a machine you do not need. Consumption, refill frequency and running cost depend on your rooms, hours and setting, so we quote none of them here - WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 and we will work through it with your numbers.
Tip: at 184 cubic metres the Vaayu is bought for a locked schedule and no water tank, not for the coverage.
The SOSA principle
The number on your lease is not the number you scent. Size the connected front of house - in a 1,500 sq ft skin clinic that is about 184 cubic metres, not 425.
Treatment and procedure rooms are separate air behind doors and are never scented, so the machine you need is smaller than the floor plan implies.

The SOSA commercial edit

Whatever your business sells, the system logic is the same: one signature, sized to the space, scheduled so it never depends on anyone's memory. A single small room or a consultation corner can sit happily on reeds with no power at all; a customer-facing floor wants the Vaayu; a venue or a flagship wants HVAC. Every SOSA system is supported from India, and the Hotel Collection blends - SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations - run across the powered ones. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the full commercial range.

Honest notes for business owners: scenting compounds a well-run premises and rescues nothing. Ventilation, air-conditioning and cleaning come first, and fragrance never substitutes for hygiene or air quality - if the air is stale, damp or smoky, fix that at the source before any scent goes in. The people most exposed to the fragrance are not your customers but your STAFF, who work eight-hour shifts in it, which is why whisper calibration and locked settings are standard on every SOSA commercial install, and any staff sensitivity report should be treated as a recalibration signal rather than a complaint. Healthcare and wellness spaces need extra restraint: keep scenting to reception and circulation areas, never treatment rooms, and the practitioner's judgement overrides anything in this guide. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. Ultrasonic systems use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; the Vaayu and HVAC systems run waterless nebulising oil - the formats are not interchangeable. WhatsApp consult: +91 96192 18531. ISIPCA
Versailles
A note from Sonal

I have walked into jewellery showrooms lit like museums, bridal boutiques with hand-embroidered walls, furniture floors styled down to the last cushion, clinics with better art than most galleries - and in almost every one of them, the air was an afterthought. Floor polish, packaging cartons, the phenyl from the morning mopping, the workshop or the loading bay drifting forward. The one thing every customer takes in before they see anything is the thing most businesses leave to chance.

I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles, where the world's scent-marketing perfumers learn the craft, and what I build for Indian businesses is the same architecture the global hospitality brands use, whatever you sell: one signature, sized to the space, run on a schedule - so the scent is as reliable as your lighting. A consultation corner may only need reeds; a full floor needs the Vaayu; a venue needs the HVAC systems. If you want it applied to your specific premises, message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with the type of space and its approximate size - I read those descriptions myself.

Everything is made or assembled for Indian conditions, supported from Pune - and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your brand gets a memory; a girl gets a classroom. That equation has always felt right to me.

Frequently asked questions

Does the corridor count as part of the volume I am sizing for?
If it is open to the waiting area, count it - it is shared air and patients walk through it. If it is behind a door, or if it is a service passage running past the procedure rooms to the store, leave it out. There is a second reason to think about the corridor carefully, which is that it is the route by which procedure-room air reaches the people in your waiting chairs: alcohol prep, peel solution, the burnt note after a laser list. Counting it into your sizing is fine. Treating it as a place to add more fragrance is not, because a corridor carrying procedure air needs extraction, plume evacuation and closed doors rather than a second machine. Size it in, scent it from the waiting area, and fix the airflow separately.
Our clinic is 1,500 sq ft but the waiting area is small. What then?
Then you need less machine than the floor area implies, and this is the most common outcome of doing the arithmetic honestly. A 250 sq ft waiting area at a nine-foot finished ceiling is 2,250 cubic feet, which is about 64 cubic metres - a single enclosed room by any measure, and comfortably inside what a Sukoon at Rs 1,899 handles with a water-based register from Rs 299. Clinics in this position often find the better spend is elsewhere: extraction and plume evacuation in the procedure rooms, a proper door closer so the corridor stops carrying, and a reed from Rs 749 in the patient washroom instead of a plug-in freshener. Send the dimensions of the waiting area specifically rather than the whole clinic and we will tell you the smallest thing that works.
We are adding two more treatment rooms next year. Should I buy bigger now?
It depends on whether the expansion changes the front of house, and usually it changes it far less than owners expect. Adding two more treatment rooms along the same corridor adds closed volumes you will never scent, so the air you are actually dosing is unchanged and a correctly sized machine stays correctly sized. What does change the number is knocking through the waiting area, adding a second reception, taking the adjacent unit and opening it into the same space, or opening the ceiling. If that is the plan, the Vaayu at Rs 11,999 has the headroom and the app scheduling to absorb it without a second purchase. If the plan is more rooms behind more doors, buy for the front of house you have today.
How much fragrance will it get through in a month, and how often do we refill?
We do not publish consumption rates, refill frequency or running costs, and any figure we gave you would be wrong for most clinics. It depends on the volume of the room, the finished ceiling height, how many hours a day the machine runs, the setting it is locked at, how often the front door opens and how hard the air-conditioning is working - and in a skin clinic the setting is lower than almost anywhere else, which changes it again. The same applies to machine lifespan and to anything about lead times or delivery. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with your front-of-house dimensions, your finished ceiling height and your working hours, and we will talk it through against your actual numbers rather than a published average.
Would two smaller machines beat one Vaayu across the front of house?
Usually not, in a space this size. Two units in one connected volume give you two settings to keep in step, two places for the level to drift, two devices for somebody to adjust, and a room with two stronger spots rather than one even level - which is precisely the thing you are trying to avoid in a clinic. One correctly placed machine holding a single low setting is the better result. Two units start to make sense when the front of house is genuinely two separated volumes with a door between them, or when a double-height entrance and a flat-ceilinged waiting area behave so differently that one unit cannot serve both. Send the layout and we will tell you honestly which of those you have.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA commercial range; the scent-marketing strategy advice applies to any business's systems.

Facts verified August 2026: Ambient scent research consistently associates pleasant, congruent scenting with improved evaluations of a space and its service, longer dwell time and stronger brand recall at moderate effect sizes; congruence (scent matching the setting) and gentle intensity outperform strong scenting in replicated studies, and no scent effect survives poor ventilation, poor cleaning or poor indoor air quality. Olfactory memory is unusually durable: scent-linked brand memories persist and retrieve for years, which is the mechanism behind signature scents. Staff exposure is the design constraint, since employees breathe the fragrance for full shifts: whisper calibration, locked settings and sensitivity accommodations are standard practice, and healthcare and wellness settings call for extra restraint. SOSA systems: alcohol-free reed diffusers from ₹749 for single rooms with no power needed; Sukoon 500ml ultrasonic (₹1,899) and Megh 6L ultrasonic (₹3,499) run the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance (from ₹299; refills from ₹999, 100ml ₹999); SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebulising machine, ~1000m³ coverage, Bluetooth app and timer; SOSA Aangan (₹25,999) and SOSA Meenar (₹38,500) are HVAC nebulising systems for approximately 8,000-10,000 and 12,000-18,000 sq ft respectively. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand.
