Intensity is the single thing most people get wrong in home fragrance, and it comes down to four things: knowing the target, dosing by rule, judging by evidence rather than by nose, and asking the people who live there.
Quick answers — read this first
How do I get home fragrance intensity right? Four things: know the target, which is a guest complimenting the house without mentioning fragrance; dose by room size and occupancy; judge by external evidence rather than your own nose; and set the level to the most sensitive person in the house.
What is the correct dose? Two to three drops in a small room, three in a bedroom, four to five in a living room, five to six on a large open floor, halved through summer. Six is an engineering ceiling.
How do I test whether it is right? Leave the house for two hours and pay attention to the first three seconds when you return, and listen to what guests say. A compliment about the house means it is correct; a question about what you use means it is slightly over.
The short answer
Short answer: intensity comes down to four things: the target (a guest compliments the house and never mentions fragrance), the dose (two to three drops small room, three bedroom, four to five living room, five to six large floor, halved in summer), the evidence (the two-hour return test, guest responses, the bottle rate) and consent (the lowest tolerance in the house decides). Your own nose is not evidence, because adaptation collapses it within ten minutes.
The pick: the Day & Night reed duo (₹1,498) as the whole-home start, or single signatures from ₹749.
Shop: SOSA reed diffusers and the Hotel Collection scenting range.
A home's fragrance is a system, not a product: honest air beneath, one scent family expressed room by room, occasions layered on top, and consistency held for years. That is what guests experience as "your home always smells incredible" - and what the household experiences as home.
What is the complete method for getting intensity right?
Four parts, and none of them is about which bottle. 1. The target. A visitor arriving from outside finds the house pleasant and does not identify a product. They compliment the house; nobody mentions fragrance. That is lower than most people set and it is the whole brief. 2. The dose. Two to three drops in a small room or compact flat, three in a bedroom with a Boond (₹799), four to five in a living room with a Sukoon (₹1,799), five to six on an open floor with a Megh (₹3,499). Halve everything in summer. Adjust down for heavier registers, up slightly for the lightest. Six is an engineering ceiling, not a target. 3. The evidence. Leave for two hours and judge the first three seconds on return. Listen to guests: a compliment is right, a question is slightly over, a comment or an opened window is well over, and silence across several visits means add a drop. Watch the bottle: a 15ml at ₹299 from the collection is roughly three hundred drops, so under a month at one tank a day is roughly double. 4. Consent. The lowest tolerance in the house sets the level, including anybody who works there, and the off switch requires no reason. And the limits. Fragrance never removes a smell, light registers fade by construction, reeds are better in monsoon, and no health claims are made. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: target a compliment about the house, dose by room and occupancy, judge by the two-hour return test rather than your nose, and let the lowest tolerance decide.
The whole-home start most households choose: the Day & Night duo - Morning Freshness for the day's bright spaces and Evening Calm for the bedroom - at ₹1,498, flame-free and plug-free. Add a mist diffuser with the Hotel Collection (from ₹299) for hosting hours.

Everything about intensity, in one place
Four parts, and the honest limits.
Why this works
The four parts
Start where most households start: the Day & Night duo at ₹1,498 - or a single signature reed from ₹749.
It is worth noticing that the entire method costs nothing. Knowing the target is a decision. Dosing by rule is a habit that also halves what you spend on refills. The return test and listening to guests are free. Consent is a conversation. The bottle is the only paid element in this whole area and it is comfortably the least important - a well-chosen register run at twice the sensible dose produces a worse room than a modest one run correctly. Anybody dissatisfied with their home fragrance should exhaust these four before considering a different product, and most of the time they will not need to.
Tip: a well-chosen register at twice the dose produces a worse room than a modest one run correctly.
2
Your nose is disqualified
Structurally, not occasionally
The recurring theme of every intensity question is that the person best placed to care is the person least able to judge. Adaptation collapses your perception of a scented room within roughly ten minutes and does not reverse while you remain in it, so any adjustment made from inside pushes the level upward, and it does so while feeling entirely reasonable. Accepting that self-assessment is unavailable is the single most useful shift in this whole subject. Everything practical follows: dose by rule, set in advance, do not adjust from the sofa, and treat an arriving guest as the only calibrated instrument in the building.
3
The limits, once more
Because they belong at the end
No fragrance removes a smell; it stands beside it, and the nose separates both, so bins, drains, damp, slow-dried fabric and stagnant air are cleaning and ventilation jobs that precede any purchase. Light registers fade faster than heavy ones by construction, and no dose or machine changes that. An ultrasonic diffuser is a mister and the wrong instrument in monsoon humidity, where a reed diffuser does the job without adding water to saturated air, and the two systems do not share fragrance. And nothing in this range claims any effect on sleep, mood, focus, breathing or wellbeing, because no such claim is available.
Tip: the person best placed to care about the level is the person least able to judge it.
The SOSA principle
The person best placed to care about the level is the person least able to judge it.
Dose by rule, set in advance, and let an arriving guest be the instrument.

The SOSA whole-home edit
Whichever transformation you are building toward, every SOSA product here is alcohol-free and made in small batches in India. Reeds run flame-free and plug-free in any room; the ultrasonic mist diffusers carry the Hotel Collection through living spaces and hosting hours; and the Vaayu machine holds large open homes on a schedule. One family, room by room - and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the full edit.
The SOSA whole-home edit
One family, every room - essential to luxury, matched to how you live
A note on the two systems: SOSA reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil - no flame, plug or water, safe in any room including nurseries' adjacent spaces at gentle placement. The Hotel Collection is a separate water-based fragrance for ultrasonic (mist) diffusers - not reed oil, and not interchangeable. Fragrance crowns a cared-for home; it does not substitute for ventilation and cleaning. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with any hotel brand. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

ISIPCA Versailles
A note from Sonal
Nobody actually buys a diffuser. In ten years of making fragrance I have never once met a customer who wanted a bottle with sticks in it. What they want is the moment someone walks into their home, pauses, and says "wow - it smells incredible in here." They want their children to grow up with a smell that will mean home for the rest of their lives. They want the house to feel finished.
That is why I compose scents the way I do - not as products but as the missing layer of a home: the fresh note at the door that says this house is kept, the warm one in the living room that says you are welcome, the lavender in the bedroom that says the day is over. One family of scents, held for years, becomes something no decor budget can buy: identity.
Everything here is alcohol-free, flame-free where it matters, and made in small batches in India. And a part of every order supports girl-child education - because a home's best fragrance is what it gives back.

Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory signals reach the brain's emotion and memory centres (amygdala, hippocampus) ahead of conscious processing, which is why scents trigger emotional responses and autobiographical memories with unusual speed and durability; a home's ambient scent influences mood, comfort and social judgments at moderate, replicated effect sizes, with gentle intensities outperforming strong ones and no fragrance effect surviving unmanaged odour sources. SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free fragrance oil with natural rattan reeds (no flame, electricity or water), from ₹749, lasting roughly 6-10 weeks per fill; refills from ₹2,399. SOSA ultrasonic (mist) diffusers - Boond (300ml, ₹799), Sukoon (500ml, ₹1,799), Megh (6L, ₹3,499) - use a separate water-based Hotel Collection fragrance (from ₹299); this is not reed diffuser oil. SOSA Vaayu is a waterless cold-air machine with Bluetooth app and timer, ~1000m³ coverage, ₹11,999. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. Cruelty-free, vegan, made in India.
