An office opening produces a predictable pile of gifts, and it is worth knowing what happens to each kind before adding to it.
Quick answers — read this first
What do people usually gift at an office opening? Plants, hampers, decorative objects and nameplates. Most of them are consumed, forgotten or relocated within a month.

What is a useful office-opening gift? Something the office keeps using. A boxed reed duo at ₹1,548, or a single reed diffuser at ₹749 for reception.

Why do plants often fail as office gifts? Because they need somebody to take responsibility for them, and in a new office nobody has been assigned that yet.
The short answer
Short answer: Most opening gifts are consumed or relocated in a month. Buy something that gets used.
The pick: a boxed reed duo at ₹1,548 for reception and a meeting room.
For a workspace: tell us the room, its ceiling height and whether the doors stay open on WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 - and we will say plainly if it should not be scented.

Career gifts and opening gifts look like one category and behave like two. A promotion is a gift to a person and belongs to the part of their life the job does not own. An opening is a gift to a space, which makes it a sizing question first and a taste question second - and in a few spaces, a clinic treatment room or anywhere food is served, the correct answer is not to scent it at all.
Straight answer
What actually gets used out of the gifts at an office opening?
Very little of it, which is the useful thing to know before choosing. What arrives and what happens to it. Plants need somebody to own them, and in a new office nobody has been assigned that yet - so they are watered enthusiastically for two weeks and then not. Hampers are eaten in a day and are genuinely fine, as long as you know that is what they are. Decorative objects compete with a fit-out somebody has just spent months designing and usually lose. Engraved nameplates and desk accessories go in a drawer with the others. None of this is a criticism; it is just what an opening pile does. What survives. Anything consumable that needs no owner. A 50ml reed diffuser at ₹749 is set up once and then simply works for six to ten weeks with nobody responsible for it. That is the whole argument, and it is a practical one rather than an aesthetic one. A Fresh and Grounded duo at ₹1,548 covers reception and a meeting room and presents properly as an opening gift. Where to put it, and where not. The exclusion that matters most in an office. SOSA does not recommend scenting shared employee work floors. Somebody at a desk for eight hours a day cannot leave a scent they dislike or react to, and nobody sitting there chose it. Reception, a meeting room, a cabin or a corridor are different: people pass through them. A fragrance-free option should be offered rather than requested, always. Sizing is where office fragrance gifts actually fail, and it is arithmetic rather than taste. Coverage follows air volume including ceiling height, not floor area, and fragrance does not travel through a closed door. New offices frequently have high ceilings, glass partitions and heavy air conditioning, all of which change the answer. An open or semi-open space cannot hold fragrance at any output. A newly fitted-out office has a strong smell of its own from paint, adhesives, new carpet and furniture, and it takes weeks of ventilation to settle. Fragrance does not fix that and is not a substitute for airing the space; it simply makes the interim more pleasant, and fresh directions sit better on top of it than sweet ones. If you want something larger. Megh at ₹3,499 for a large reception, with water-based Hotel Collection fragrance from ₹299, or Vaayu at ₹11,999 for a whole floor. Both need a decision from the owner about where they go, so they suit a gift given a few weeks in rather than on the day. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: buy the thing that needs no owner and keeps working for two months.
Nobody has to look after it: a reed diffuser, ₹749.

What survives an opening

Three reasons most opening gifts disappear.

01
Nobody owns anything yet
In a new office
Plants and anything needing maintenance require an owner, and in a brand-new office nobody has been assigned one. A gift that needs looking after is a task handed to a team that has not formed yet.
Tip: A gift that needs looking after is a task, not a present.
02
The fit-out is finished
Decorative gifts compete
Somebody has just spent months choosing every visible surface. Anything decorative arrives into a plan it was not part of, which is why so much of it quietly moves to a cupboard within a month.
03
Consumables survive
Because they ask nothing
A reed diffuser is set up once and works for six to ten weeks with nobody responsible. It occupies no permanent space, competes with no design decision and requires no maintenance, which is why it outlasts the rest of the pile.
Tip: It asks nothing of anybody. That is why it survives.
The SOSA principle
Nobody owns anything yet.
Which is why a gift that needs looking after does not get looked after.

Something the office keeps using

Fresh and green sits best on a new fit-out and is least likely to be disliked by a mixed group of people.

The SOSA career & opening range

Everything below is alcohol-free and handmade in India, and it is organised by what is being started rather than by price. For a person marking a career moment, the attar tier is the one that works: concentrated oil rather than an alcohol spray, worn close to the skin, which is why it suits an office in a way a projecting spray does not. For a commute that has just got longer, the 12ml car perfume comes in two forms at the same price, a hanging version with a mild throw and a spray with a stronger one. For a small office, a studio or a consulting room, reed diffusers need no plug, flame or water and run down over six to ten weeks. Ultrasonic diffusers need water and the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance - that is not reed diffuser oil and the two are not interchangeable. SOSA Safar is the cordless waterless machine for cars and hotel rooms, and Vaayu is for a whole floor, a store or a hospitality space. Coverage follows air volume including ceiling height, so anything commercial is quoted room by room rather than by budget. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

There are two completely different gifts hiding in this category and people mix them up constantly. A new job or a promotion is a gift to a person, and the kind thing is to aim at the part of their life the job does not own: their home, their commute, the twenty minutes before anybody needs anything from them. A desk object or an engraved plaque points straight back at the office, which is not a treat.

An opening is a gift to a space, and that is a different discipline entirely. It is a sizing question before it is a taste question, because coverage follows the air volume of a room including its ceiling height, and fragrance does not travel through a closed door. A beautiful product in the wrong-sized room reads as a weak product when it is actually arithmetic.

And there is a third answer people do not expect from a fragrance house, which is no. We do not recommend scenting clinical treatment areas, dining areas, or anywhere food is prepared or served. A patient on an examination table cannot leave the room, and in a restaurant the kitchen is already the scent strategy - anything else competes with how the food tastes. When somebody asks me about a café, I tell them to scent the washrooms and buy the owner something for their own home. A part of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Commercial, clinical and compliance note: this guide makes no therapeutic, medical, psychological or performance claim for any fragrance. Nothing here suggests a scent improves focus, productivity, recovery, sleep, mood or health, or that it affects footfall, dwell time, conversion or any other business outcome. SOSA does not recommend scenting clinical treatment areas, dining areas or anywhere food is prepared or served, and in any healthcare, hospitality or shared workplace setting a fragrance-free option should be offered rather than requested, because people who cannot leave a room have no way to opt out. Scenting a commercial premises is a business decision for its owner, sized to the space and tested with the people who use it, and a gift can only be a starting point for that. References to the taxation of business gifts, including withholding on benefits or perquisites arising from business or profession and the general blocking of input tax credit on gifts under GST, are general information current at the time of writing and are not tax advice; thresholds and interpretations change and your own finance team decides. References to gifts involving public servants, and to the Uniform Code for Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices and medical council conduct regulations restricting gifts from pharmaceutical, medical device and allied healthcare companies to healthcare professionals, are general information and not legal advice; where those rules apply there may be no compliant version of a gift at all. The recipient organisation's own gift policy governs. Attars are concentrated oils worn directly on the skin, so anyone with sensitive skin should patch-test first. Car fragrance should be fitted so that it does not obstruct the driver's view, interfere with controls or airbag deployment areas, or become a loose object in the cabin. Fragrance products are not intended for young children and should be kept out of reach of children and pets.
