A bigger bottle looks like the obvious upgrade. More oil, more reeds, surely more room. Two of those three are true, and the third one is the one you are actually buying it for. We would rather tell you which is which now than have you open a 130ml bottle in a fortnight and feel the same disappointment in a larger format.
Quick answers — read this first
Does a bigger 130ml reed diffuser cover more of the room? No. A 130ml bottle from Rs 1,249 holds more oil, so it lasts longer than the standard size, and it can usually carry more reeds, which raises the evaporation rate and makes the air close to the bottle richer. Those are both real upgrades and worth paying for on their own terms. Neither of them adds anything that carries scent away from the bottle. Reach in a passive diffuser is not a function of how much oil is in the glass; it is a function of whether anything is moving the scent outward, and in a reed diffuser nothing is. So a bigger bottle is a duration and intensity upgrade, never a coverage upgrade.
What is a 130ml reed diffuser actually better at? Two things, clearly. Lasting: more oil means more weeks before it needs replacing, which is genuinely convenient and a real saving in effort. And intensity at the source: a larger bottle can take more reeds, and more reeds mean more surface area evaporating at once, so the air within a step or two of the bottle is noticeably richer than the same fragrance in a smaller bottle with fewer sticks. That makes it an excellent choice for a bathroom, an entryway or a desk, where you want a stronger presence in a small space and would rather not think about it for a while. What it does not do is push that richer air any further across the room.
Should I buy a 130ml bottle or an active diffuser? It depends which problem you are solving, and the prices are close enough that it is worth being deliberate. A 130ml reed from Rs 1,249 is the right buy if you love the fragrance where it stands and want it stronger there and longer-lasting. A Boond ultrasonic at Rs 899 with a water-based Hotel Collection bottle at Rs 299 is Rs 1,198, which is Rs 51 less, and it is active, so it moves scent into the room rather than waiting for the room to come to it. If the sentence in your head is that the room does not smell of it, the second option is the one aimed at that sentence. The ultrasonic trade-off is real: water adds humidity, can dilute the scent, and in hard-water areas can leave white dust.
The short answer
Short answer: No. A 130ml bottle from Rs 1,249 holds more oil, so it lasts longer, and it can carry more reeds, which raises intensity in the air right around the bottle. Both are genuine upgrades. Neither adds anything that carries scent across a room, because reach in a passive diffuser is not set by how much oil is in the glass - it is set by whether anything is moving the scent outward, and nothing is. Bigger is a duration and intensity upgrade, never a coverage upgrade. For coverage, a Boond at Rs 899 with the water-based Hotel Collection at Rs 299 is Rs 1,198 and is active. The pick: keep the reed from ₹749 for ambience near where it stands; an ultrasonic from ₹899 with the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299 when you want the whole room evenly; the SOSA Safar (₹3,999, waterless and cordless, three hotel-inspired blends included) when you want it strong and true in the space you sit in; the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) for a large or open-plan room.
Talk to us: WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with your room's approximate size and where you actually sit or sleep in it, and we will place you on the ladder honestly.
Nothing has gone wrong with your reed diffuser. A reed is a passive system: the oil climbs the sticks and evaporates at whatever rate your room's warmth and air movement allow, and no part of it pushes scent anywhere. That is exactly why it is lovely at arm's length and quiet across the room. What has changed is what you now want from it. Ambience near where the bottle stands is one job; a whole room that smells of it, or a strong true scent right where you sit, is a different job, and a different job needs a different tool. This guide explains the mechanism first, then tells you honestly which tool matches which wish.
Will a 130ml bottle reach further than the one I have?
It will last longer and it will smell stronger where it stands. It will not reach further, and we would rather you knew that before the ₹1,249. What the extra oil buys. More millilitres means more weeks of use from one bottle, which is a real and useful upgrade - a standard bottle runs about 6 to 10 weeks depending on the room, and a larger one simply runs longer. What the extra reeds buy. A bigger bottle can carry more sticks, and more sticks means more wetted surface evaporating at once, so the air within a step of the bottle is genuinely richer. That is intensity at the source, and it is worth paying for if the place you want it stronger is the place the bottle sits. Why neither one is reach. Reach in a passive diffuser has nothing to do with how much oil is in the glass. Oil climbs the reeds and evaporates into the air touching them, and from there it moves only as your room's own currents move it. Concentration is highest at the bottle and falls with distance, and a taller bottle with more sticks makes that peak higher without moving where it ends. You get a stronger hot spot and a longer-lived one. The number worth seeing. A 130ml reed is from ₹1,249. A Boond at ₹899 with a water-based Hotel Collection at ₹299 is ₹1,198 - ₹51 less, and active, so it works on distribution rather than on the size of the peak. Honest caveat: water adds humidity, can dilute the scent, and hard water can leave white dust. For strong undiluted scent right where you sit, the waterless SOSA Safar is ₹3,999. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 and tell us which of the two problems you have. Made in India; a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Straight version: 130ml from ₹1,249 lasts longer and is stronger at the bottle - both real. It does not reach further. For reach, a Boond at ₹899 plus fragrance at ₹299 is ₹1,198 and it is active. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
The honest ladder in one line: keep the reed diffuser from ₹749 for ambience near where it stands; an ultrasonic from ₹899 with the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299 when you want the whole room, water trade-offs and all; the SOSA Safar at ₹3,999, waterless and cordless, when you want it strong and true in the space you actually sit in; the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 when the space is large or open-plan. What you already ownSOSA Reed Diffusers (passive) from ₹749The product this guide starts from, and it is not the problem. Alcohol-free oil, a few reeds, no power and nothing to fail - lovely ambience near where the bottle stands, for about 6 to 10 weeks.See it on the store →Ask on WhatsApp
What a bigger bottle upgrades, in order
Take the upgrade apart into its three claims: how long it lasts, how strong it is at the bottle, and how far it goes. Two of those improve.
Why this happens in your room
What the bigger bottle honestly changes
Keep the reed where it already works, from ₹749. If you want the whole room, an ultrasonic from ₹899 with the water-based Hotel Collection is the honest and cheaper first upgrade. If you want it strong and true right where you sit or sleep, the SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 is waterless and cordless.
Let us give the bigger bottle full credit for what it genuinely does. More oil in the glass means more weeks before you are back on the product page. A standard reed diffuser runs about 6 to 10 weeks depending on how warm and how moving the room is, and a 130ml bottle from ₹1,249 simply extends that from the same fragrance. For a room you do not want to think about - a guest bathroom, a landing, an entryway, an office desk - that convenience is the whole reason to buy the size up. It also tends to be a tidier object, with more presence on a console or a basin surround, and reed diffusers earn part of their keep as things you look at. So if your reason for the upgrade is that you like the fragrance, you like where it sits, and you are tired of replacing it, the 130ml is exactly the right purchase and you should buy it without hesitation. Duration is a genuine upgrade. It is simply not the same upgrade as coverage.
Tip: if you are buying it to stop replacing the small one, that is a good reason and it will deliver.

Claim two
It is stronger at the bottle, because it can carry more reeds
The second real benefit is intensity, and it comes from the reeds rather than the oil. A larger neck and a larger volume let a bottle carry more sticks without crowding, and every additional stick adds wetted surface area from which oil can evaporate. More surface evaporating at once means more fragrance entering the air per hour, which means the air within a step or two of the bottle is measurably richer than the same fragrance in a smaller bottle with fewer reeds. That is a genuine and noticeable difference, and it is the difference people are describing when they say the bigger one smells stronger. It comes with an honest consequence: a faster evaporation rate uses oil faster, so the extra capacity is partly spent on the extra intensity rather than purely on extra weeks. You can steer this yourself. Use fewer reeds for a gentler, longer-running bottle, or more for a stronger, shorter-running one. What you cannot do with any number of sticks is change where the scent stops, because the sticks control the rate of production and nothing at all about transport.
3
Claim three
Reach is not on the list, and no bottle size puts it there
Here is the part to be completely unhedged about. How far a fragrance travels from a passive diffuser is not decided by the size of the bottle, the amount of oil or the number of reeds. It is decided by whether anything is moving that fragrance outward, and in a reed diffuser nothing is. Oil climbs the sticks by capillary action, evaporates into the air in contact with them, and then goes wherever your room's own currents happen to take it. Make the bottle bigger and you raise the peak of that concentration; you do not extend its base. In practice a 130ml bottle in a bedroom gives you a more emphatic patch of fragrance around the console it sits on and the same quiet far corner you had before. So if the sentence in your head is that the room does not smell of it, a bigger passive bottle is spending ₹1,249 on the wrong variable. Compare: a Boond at ₹899 with the water-based Hotel Collection at ₹299 is ₹1,198, actively pushes scent outward and costs ₹51 less. A Sukoon at ₹1,899 plus ₹299 is ₹2,198 for a larger room. And the waterless SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 gives you undiluted oil, actively diffused, in the personal space you occupy.
Tip: bigger bottle, higher peak, same footprint. Buy it for duration and intensity, never for coverage.
The SOSA principle
A bigger bottle is a bigger fuel tank and a bigger flame. It is not a fan, and reach was always a question about the fan.
More oil buys weeks. More reeds buy intensity at the source. Only added energy buys distance, and no reed diffuser has any.

The ladder from passive to active, in order - tap any image to see it on the store
Start where you already are. Reed diffusers from ₹749 are passive: Morning Freshness ₹749, Garden Bloom ₹799, Evening Calm ₹799, Mountain Breeze ₹849 and Fresh Brew ₹849, with 130ml sizes from ₹1,249. They give you ambience near where the bottle stands, with no power, no noise and nothing that can fail, and they are still the right product for a bathroom, a bedside table, a study or a guest room. If you want the room itself to smell of it, that needs an active diffuser: Boond ₹899, Sukoon ₹1,899 or Megh ₹3,499 running the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299 (100ml refill ₹999, or the Pack of 7 at 15ml for ₹1,799). That is the honest first upgrade for a single ordinary bedroom, and it costs less than the Safar. Its trade-off, in our own words: an ultrasonic mixes the fragrance with water, which adds humidity to the room, can dilute the scent, and in hard-water areas can leave a fine white dust on nearby surfaces. If you would rather have no water at all and want the scent strong and true in the space you actually occupy, the SOSA Safar ₹3,999 is waterless, cordless and rechargeable, diffusing pure undiluted oil by cold diffusion. For a large room or a connected open-plan space, the SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 is the genuine whole-space answer at approximately 1000m³ of connected volume, and it is honestly more machine than a small bedroom needs.
Not sure which rung you are on? WhatsApp us on +91 96192 18531 with your room size and where you actually sit or sleep in it - we will tell you straight, including when the answer is to keep the reed and change nothing.
Reeds from ₹749 for ambience beside you, an ultrasonic from ₹899 for the whole room, the Safar at ₹3,999 waterless for where you sit, the Vaayu at ₹11,999 for a large open space. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 and we will place you honestly.
Buy the 130ml because you love where it sits and want it to last. Do not buy it because you want the far corner of the room to change, because it will not.

The SOSA edit, passive to active
Whatever your room looks like, the logic is the same, and it has nothing to do with how big or smart your home is. A passive reed gives you scent near where it stands, and that is genuinely the right answer for a bathroom, a bedside table, a study or a guest room. An active diffuser moves scent into the air instead of waiting for the air to come and collect it, which is the only thing that turns "lovely next to the bottle" into "the room smells of it". Every SOSA product is made in India, cruelty-free and vegan, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is where each one honestly belongs.
The SOSA edit, passive to active
Which one matches what you actually want - ambience near the bottle, a whole room, or strong scent where you sit
No power, no noise, nothing to fail. Still the right product for a bathroom, a bedside table, a study or a guest room. Evening Calm ₹799, Mountain Breeze ₹849, Fresh Brew ₹849; 130ml from ₹1,249
The honest first upgrade for a whole room, and cheaper than the Safar. Runs the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299 (100ml refill ₹999, Pack of 7 at 15ml ₹1,799). It mixes oil with water, so it adds humidity, can dilute the scent, and in hard-water areas can leave white dust
Active and waterless · the personal space you occupy
Cordless, rechargeable 2000 mAh, cold diffusion of pure undiluted oil: no water, no dilution, no white dust. SOSA lists it as best for car, handbag, work desk, bedside, hotel and travel, and work-from-home. Ships with three hotel-inspired waterless blends. A personal-space diffuser with strong near-field projection, not a whole-room machine
Waterless cold-air to approximately 1000m³ of connected volume, Bluetooth app and timer, four hotel-inspired blends included. The genuine whole-space answer, and honestly oversized for a small bedroom
₹11,999
Honest notes before you spend anything. A reed diffuser is passive, and its scent is strongest at the bottle. That is the mechanism working, not a fault, and not a sign you bought the wrong thing: oil climbs the reeds and evaporates, and nothing in the design pushes that scent across a room. More reeds increase evaporation, not reach. Adding sticks makes the air near the bottle stronger and empties the bottle faster; it adds no force to carry fragrance to the other side of the room, so you get a more intense spot and a shorter-lived diffuser. Placement optimises a passive system but cannot make it active. Moving the bottle out of a direct draught, away from an open window, up to roughly seated-nose height rather than on the floor, and into the part of the room you actually use, all genuinely help - and none of them convert passive diffusion into active diffusion. Ventilation and cleaning come first. If a room smells stale, damp or of last night's cooking, open it, air it and clean it; fragrance laid on top of that only makes a more complicated smell, and it never substitutes for either. Homes are shared. Households include children, elderly relatives, pregnant family members and pets, all of whom breathe this air far longer than a visitor does, so gentle dosing is the default and the settings we suggest are lower than any machine can run. Anyone reporting a headache is a recalibration signal, not a complaint to argue with: turn it down or turn it off, and tell us. The Safar and the Vaayu run waterless oil and each ship with their own blends; the Hotel Collection bottle is water-based and belongs in the ultrasonic machines only, and the two formats are not interchangeable. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. ISIPCA Versailles
A note from Sonal
There is a difference between a fragrance being good and a fragrance reaching you, and almost nobody is told what it is. When someone writes to me and says the reed diffuser smells wonderful up close but they cannot smell it from the bed, my first answer is always the same: nothing is wrong, and you did not buy the wrong thing. A reed diffuser is a passive object. It holds oil, the reeds draw it up, the room's warmth and air take it away at their own pace. It has no way of carrying scent to you, and it was never built to.
So the real question is not which fragrance is stronger. It is which job you want done. If you want a quiet, pleasant presence in the corner of a bathroom or beside a bed, a reed is still the most elegant thing I sell, and I would rather you kept it than replaced it. If you want the whole room to smell of something when you walk in, that needs a machine that actively moves scent into the air, and the honest first step there is one of our ultrasonics, which costs less than our waterless diffuser does. If you want it strong and true right where you sit or sleep, with no water and no dilution, that is the Safar. And if your living space is genuinely large or open-plan, that is the Vaayu, which I will happily tell you is far too much machine for a 10 by 12 bedroom.
I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and I have had this conversation hundreds of times, and I would much rather talk someone out of a purchase than sell them a disappointment. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with your room's approximate size and a line about where you actually sit or sleep in it - the bed, the desk, the sofa, the corner you read in - and we will tell you which of these you need, including when the answer is none of them. I read those messages myself. Everything is made in India, cruelty-free and vegan, and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your room gets a memory; a girl gets a classroom.
Frequently asked questions
How much longer does a 130ml reed diffuser last than a standard one?
Longer, and the honest answer is that we will not put a precise number on it because the room decides. A reed diffuser runs about 6 to 10 weeks in typical use, and that range exists because warmth, air movement and how many reeds you use all change the evaporation rate. A warm room with a fan running empties a bottle faster than a cool, still one. A larger volume of oil extends whatever your room's own pace turns out to be, so if your standard bottle sits at the shorter end of that range, the bigger one will too, just from a bigger reservoir. You also control it: fewer reeds slows the rate and stretches the bottle, more reeds speeds it up and shortens it. If you want a specific estimate for your room, message us on WhatsApp with the room size and how many reeds you use.
Is a 130ml bottle better value than buying two standard bottles?
For one room, yes, and it is the tidier choice. Two standard bottles at Rs 749 each is Rs 1,498 and gives you two hot spots in one room, which is not what you were trying to buy. A 130ml from Rs 1,249 gives you one stronger, longer-lasting source in the place you actually want it, for less money. Where two bottles win is when they are going into two rooms, and for that our duo sets from Rs 1,498 are the neat way to do it. So the value question really depends on how many rooms you are scenting: one room, buy the size up; two rooms, buy two bottles; one room evenly, neither, and look at an active diffuser from Rs 899 instead.
Would refilling my existing bottle with a large refill do the same thing?
It does the duration half of the job, which for many people is the half they wanted. Reed refills come in 300ml at Rs 2,399 and 500ml at Rs 3,499, and they let you keep the bottle and the reeds you already like while topping up the oil, which is also the less wasteful option. What a refill cannot change is the geometry: the same bottle in the same position produces the same concentration hill, so the far side of the room stays exactly as it was. Use fresh reeds when you refill, since old sticks clog with dust and thickened oil over time and stop drawing well. If your goal is simply to keep a fragrance you love going in a spot you love, refills are the sensible way to do it.
Will more reeds in a bigger bottle at least push the scent a bit further?
They raise how much fragrance is produced, not how far it goes, and it is worth being precise about that because it is where most money gets wasted. Each extra stick adds evaporating surface, so more molecules enter the air per hour and the air near the bottle gets richer. But the reason the far corner is quiet is not that too few molecules are being produced; it is that nothing is carrying them there. Doubling production against zero transport still gives you zero transport. What you will notice in practice is a stronger near-field and a bottle that empties sooner, which is a fair trade if the near-field is where you sit and a poor one if you were hoping for the room. If the room is the goal, that is an active diffuser from Rs 899, and it costs less than the 130ml bottle.
So when is the 130ml the right thing to buy?
When you love the fragrance, you love where the bottle sits, and you want more of it there for longer. A bathroom you want to feel generous the moment the door opens. An entryway that makes the first impression of your home. A desk you sit at all day, where a richer near-field is exactly the point. A guest room you would rather not think about for a couple of months. In all of those the 130ml from Rs 1,249 is the correct purchase and we would encourage it without any caveat at all. The only time we would steer you away is when the reason you are buying it is that the room does not smell of your fragrance from across the room, because a bigger passive bottle cannot change that and we would rather say so before you spend.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the passive-versus-active reasoning applies to any brand's products.
Facts verified August 2026: A reed diffuser is a passive system - oil travels up the reeds by capillary action and evaporates at the rate the room's temperature and air movement allow, so concentration is highest at the bottle and falls away with distance. A SOSA reed diffuser lasts about 6 to 10 weeks. Reed prices: Morning Freshness ₹749, Garden Bloom ₹799, Evening Calm ₹799, Mountain Breeze ₹849, Fresh Brew ₹849; 130ml sizes from ₹1,249. An active diffuser adds energy to move fragrance into the air. SOSA's ultrasonic machines are Boond (₹899), Sukoon (₹1,899) and Megh 6L (₹3,499); they run the water-based SOSA Hotel Collection, 15ml ₹299, 100ml refill ₹999, Pack of 7 at 15ml ₹1,799. An ultrasonic mixes fragrance with water, which adds humidity to the room, can dilute the scent, and in hard-water areas can leave white dust. The SOSA Safar (₹3,999) is a waterless, cordless, rechargeable cold-diffusion perfume diffuser with a 2000 mAh battery, diffusing pure undiluted oil with no water and no white dust; SOSA's own copy lists it as best for car, handbag, work desk, bedside, hotel and travel, work-from-home and gifting. It ships with three hotel-inspired waterless blends, chosen as one of three bundles: Ritz-Carlton Inspired, Westin Inspired and 1 Hotels Inspired; St. Regis Inspired, Shangri-La Inspired and Four Seasons Inspired; or W Hotels Inspired, Ritz-Carlton Inspired and Westin Inspired. No square-foot or cubic-metre coverage figure is published for the Safar, so none is stated here or anywhere else by us; it is a personal-space diffuser, not a whole-room machine. The SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air system covering approximately 1000m³ of connected volume, with a Bluetooth app and timer, and it ships with four hotel-inspired waterless blends included in the box. Format distinction: the Safar and the Vaayu run waterless oil and each arrive with their own blends, while the ₹299 Hotel Collection bottle is water-based and goes into the ultrasonic machines only. The two formats are not interchangeable. Scent perception is personal and varies between people in the same room, and coverage figures assume connected air volume rather than closed doors. Ventilation and cleaning come first; fragrance is an addition to a well-kept room and never a substitute for either, and we make no health, therapeutic or air-purification claims. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any hotel brand. Made in India, cruelty-free and vegan. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Questions about a specific room are answered on WhatsApp: +91 96192 18531.
