The machine: one Vaayu at ₹11,999, rated to 1000 m³, on its lowest setting, placed in the entrance or the main living volume at waist height or above and out of the door draught. Started two hours before the viewing.
The free instruction that matters more than the machine: open every internal door for those two hours. A coverage rating assumes air can circulate. Behind a closed bedroom door it cannot, and that room is a separate volume the machine has never met.
2. Open every internal door two hours before the viewing. This costs nothing, takes ninety seconds and is the single most useful sentence on this page. A coverage figure assumes air can move. With three bedroom doors shut, a 560 m³ flat is a 300 m³ living volume plus three boxes of 50 to 70 m³ each that the machine has no access to at all.
3. Then the free work, in the usual order. Windows on opposite walls the day before, water down every drain trap, and a walk through the flat with your nose rather than your eyes. If what you find is damp, a leak, a drain or anything with a structural cause, stop. That is a material fact about the property. Find it, fix it or disclose it. Fragrance is not an option there and never will be.
4. One Vaayu at ₹11,999, on its lowest setting, from two hours before. Waterless cold-air nebulisation, so no water goes into a flat that may be closed between viewings and nothing lands on marble. Up to 1000 m³ against your 560, which is the margin that lets you run it low and still reach a level.
5. Place it in the entrance or at the near edge of the main living volume, waist height or above, out of the door draught. Not on the floor, not in the doorway itself, not opposite an air conditioner blowing straight at it. The mist wants a still corner from which to join a room, not a wind tunnel.
6. And choose the quiet register. The Ritz-Carlton-inspired Quiet Luxury — white tea, bergamot and cedar — or the lighter Westin-inspired White Tea Serenity. The buyer should come away remembering the flat, not the fragrance.

Six doors, six volumes: the sum nobody does
Every coverage figure printed on every scent machine ever sold, including ours, is given in cubic metres. Every property is advertised in square feet. That mismatch is where most disappointment in this category comes from, and closing it takes one division and one multiplication. But the arithmetic is the easy half. The hard half is that a flat is not a single volume with a number attached to it — it is as many volumes as it has doors that close, and a machine standing in the hall has met exactly one of them. A 2,000 sq ft apartment is the perfect size at which to learn this, because it is small enough that the capacity question genuinely is settled and large enough that the door question genuinely is not.
Where the 560 cubic metres actually are
A typical 2,000 sq ft three-bedroom premium apartment, broken into the volumes a door closes rather than the areas a brochure lists. The third column is the cubic-metre arithmetic at a 10 ft ceiling and the fourth is what one machine standing in the entrance actually does for that volume with the door shut. The totals are real: 2,010 sq ft and 561 m³.
| Volume | Floor area | Cubic metres at 3 m | What one entrance machine does with the door shut | Door open? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Entrance, living, dining and passage ★ | 1,050 sq ft | About 293 m³ | Everything. This is the volume the machine is genuinely in, and 293 m³ against a 1000 m³ rating is why the lowest setting is enough | N/A |
| Master bedroom | 250 sq ft | About 70 m³ | Very little in two hours. A gap under a door is not circulation, and this is the room the buyer will ask to see second | Yes — the full two hours |
| Second bedroom | 200 sq ft | About 56 m³ | The same, and worse if it is at the far end of a corridor with a turn in it | Yes |
| Third bedroom or study | 180 sq ft | About 50 m³ | The same again. Three closed doors remove roughly 176 m³ — a third of the flat — from the machine's reach | Yes |
| Kitchen | 150 sq ft | About 42 m³ | Reached easily if the door is open, and best left open only if the kitchen is genuinely clean and dry. Deal with the bin and the sink first | Yes, if clean |
| Three bathrooms | 180 sq ft | About 50 m³ | Open the doors, but the real work is water down every trap the day before. A dry trap is a defect to fix, not a smell to cover | Yes, traps filled |

Two hours, the lowest setting, and where the machine stands
Start with the setting, because at this size the instinct is exactly backwards. You have a machine rated to 1000 m³ pointed at 560 m³ of air, which means the lowest setting is not a compromise — it is the setting the arithmetic was for. Adjustable intensity on the Vaayu exists so that a 560 m³ flat and a 950 m³ one can both be brought to the same perceived level, and the number you want is whatever produces a scent a person notices on arrival and stops noticing four minutes later. Anything above that is working against you at a viewing, because a buyer who can still smell the fragrance in the third room is thinking about the fragrance rather than the third room. Then the two hours, which is the timing this whole cluster is built on and which matters for a specific mechanical reason at this size. A nebuliser reaches a working level within minutes; what takes the two hours is the level reaching the ends of the flat and settling into something steady. Started two hours out on low, the property has arrived at its level and holds it. Started twenty minutes out on high, the property is still climbing while the buyer walks through it — and a rising level is perceptible in a way a steady one is not. The 1h, 4h, 8h and 24h timers mean you do not have to be there for any of this: set the 4h timer, drive to your other appointment, and come back to a flat that has been at its level for ninety minutes.
Then placement, which at 2,000 sq ft is a question of one machine and four rules. First, the entrance or the near edge of the main living volume — not the middle of the sitting room and not the far wall. The entrance is where the impression is formed and it is also, in most Indian flats, the point the rest of the plan radiates from, so a machine there is upstream of everything else. Second, waist height or above. On a console, a shelf, a kitchen counter edge, a windowsill — anywhere above about three feet. A machine on the floor of an empty flat is at the coldest, stillest, dustiest level in the room and is scenting the skirting. Third, out of the door draught. A front door that opens and closes six times during a viewing generates a real air current, and a machine sitting in it has its output pulled straight into the lobby, where it does nothing for you and quite a lot for the neighbours. A metre or two to the side of the door swing, behind the line of the opening, is enough. Fourth, away from the direct blast of an air conditioner. A vent blowing across the machine dilutes and disperses the output before it has formed, which reads as a weak machine and is actually a badly placed one. Beside the AC rather than in front of it: you want the room's circulation to collect the scent, not to fire it at a wall. In an empty flat, add a fifth rule — put it somewhere it is not the first object the buyer's eye lands on. At 165 × 80.5 × 215 mm and 0.9 kg that is easy, and a wall mount makes it easier still.
Then the order of operations, the machines that are wrong here, and the line this brand does not cross. Fragrance is the last step in preparing a property and it is never the first. The day before: windows open on opposite walls for a genuine cross-draught, water down every drain trap, bin out, fridge checked, and a slow walk through the flat using your nose. Three hours before: close up and let the flat come to temperature with the AC on if it is warm. Two hours: doors open, machine on low. Thirty minutes: walk it from the front door as a buyer would, and adjust down rather than up. On the machines that are wrong for this job — the Sukoon at ₹1,899 and the Boond at ₹899 are ultrasonic and water-based, and they put 30–50 ml of water an hour into the air. In an occupied, air-conditioned flat that is fine and the Sukoon is a genuinely good machine for one room. In a closed 2,000 sq ft flat in monsoon it is the wrong tool, because you may be trying to dry that property rather than humidify it. A reed diffuser from ₹749 takes 24 to 72 hours to establish, which makes it right for a listing shown every week for months and useless for a viewing tomorrow. A candle from ₹379 scents a room in fifteen to twenty minutes and must be attended and put out, so an unattended flame in a vacant flat is an insurance problem rather than a staging decision, and I would rather say that plainly. And SOSA does not make a room spray for the home; the sprays in the range are car perfumes. Last, and it outranks everything above: if the flat has damp, a leak, a drain fault, smoke damage or anything with a structural cause, none of this applies. That is a material fact about the property. Find it, fix it or disclose it, and scent a listing that is genuinely sound. Fragrance is presentation, in the same category as photography, styling and lighting. It is not persuasion and it is certainly not concealment.
The SOSA edit
In buying order for a 2,000 sq ft premium apartment being prepared for a scheduled viewing. The first row is the machine and the second is the register, but the row that changes the most is the last one, and it does not cost anything.

The question I am asked most often by realtors is some version of will one machine do it, and the answer is almost always yes followed by a condition nobody expects. At 2,000 square feet the capacity is not the issue. Two thousand square feet at a normal ceiling is about 560 cubic metres and the Vaayu is built for 1000, so you are running it at a little over half stretch, which is exactly where a machine should be. What defeats people is not the number. It is the six closed doors between the machine and the parts of the flat the buyer is going to spend the most time in.
I have walked into a great many well-prepared flats where the hall was beautiful and the master bedroom smelled like a room that had been shut since Tuesday, and every one of those was fixable in ninety seconds by somebody who had thought about it two hours earlier. So the instruction I would give above any product recommendation on this page is this: when you switch the machine on, walk the flat and open every internal door, and leave them open until half an hour before the buyer arrives. It costs nothing, it requires nothing, and it is the difference between scenting a property and scenting a hallway. I would rather sell you one machine and tell you that than sell you two and let you find out.
Everything is made and supported from Pune, and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. You get a space that smells like somewhere considered; a girl gets a classroom. That equation has always felt right to me.
