This is the page to send someone who just wants to be told what to buy. Measure the room, do one multiplication and one division, and the answer falls out. Everything below is worked by hand at a 10 foot ceiling, which is close enough for most Indian homes, and each size is matched to a real product at a real price rather than a vague bracket. Two rules run underneath the whole thing, and they matter more than any single number, so they are stated before the table rather than buried after it.
Quick answers — read this first
How do I work out which diffuser size my room needs? Two sums and one rule. Multiply the floor area by the ceiling height to get cubic feet, then divide by 35.3 to get cubic metres, because fragrance fills volume and not floor. At a 10 ft ceiling that gives you: 60 sq ft is 600 cubic feet, about 17 cubic metres; 120 sq ft is 1,200, about 34; 150 sq ft is 1,500, about 42; 250 sq ft is 2,500, about 71; 400 sq ft is 4,000, about 113; 800 sq ft is 8,000, about 227; and 1,200 sq ft is 12,000, about 340. The rule is that any coverage figure describes one connected body of air, so add up only the spaces with no closed door between them, and give every shut room its own source.

What diffuser do I need for a 150 sq ft bedroom? About 42 cubic metres of air, which is comfortably ultrasonic territory. A Boond at Rs 899 or a Sukoon at Rs 1,899 with a water-based Hotel Collection bottle at Rs 299 makes that room read evenly, for Rs 1,198 or Rs 2,198 all in - and it is an active machine, which is the thing your reed diffuser cannot be. If the room is humid or your water is hard, you may prefer waterless, and if what you actually want is strong, undiluted scent right at the bed rather than an even room, the SOSA Safar at Rs 3,999 is the bedside answer. A reed diffuser from Rs 749 still works beautifully on that bedside table as ambience; it simply will not fill 42 cubic metres, and nothing passive will.

At what room size do I need a Vaayu instead of an ultrasonic? When the connected volume climbs past what a room machine can hold evenly, which in practice is somewhere above 400 sq ft of continuous space. At a 10 ft ceiling, 400 sq ft is 4,000 cubic feet or about 113 cubic metres, and that is the genuine overlap where a Megh 6L at Rs 3,499 with the water-based Hotel Collection from Rs 299 and a Vaayu at Rs 11,999 are both defensible. By 800 sq ft connected, which is 8,000 cubic feet or about 227 cubic metres, and certainly by 1,200 sq ft at about 340 cubic metres, the Vaayu is the right machine - it is rated for approximately 1000 cubic metres of connected air, and SOSA's own copy also states 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft covered evenly, with a Bluetooth app and timer to hold the level automatically.
The short answer
Short answer: Work in volume, at a 10 ft ceiling. 60 sq ft bathroom is 600 cubic feet, about 17 cubic metres - a reed diffuser from Rs 749. 120 sq ft is 1,200, about 34 - a reed at the bedside, or an ultrasonic for the whole room. 150 sq ft is 1,500, about 42 - ultrasonic, Boond Rs 899 or Sukoon Rs 1,899 with the water-based Hotel Collection from Rs 299. 250 sq ft is 2,500, about 71 - Sukoon or Megh Rs 3,499. 400 sq ft is 4,000, about 113 - Megh or Vaayu. 800 sq ft is 8,000, about 227 - Vaayu Rs 11,999. 1,200 sq ft is 12,000, about 340 - Vaayu. The Vaayu is rated for approximately 1000 cubic metres of connected air and SOSA's own copy also states 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft evenly. Coverage assumes one connected body of air, so closed rooms need their own source. For strong scent in a personal space rather than an even room, the waterless Safar Rs 3,999. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
The pick: keep the reed from ₹749 for ambience near where it stands; an ultrasonic from ₹899 with the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299 when you want the whole room evenly; the SOSA Safar (₹3,999, waterless and cordless, three hotel-inspired blends included) when you want it strong and true in the space you sit in; the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) for a large or open-plan room.
Talk to us: WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with your room's approximate size and where you actually sit or sleep in it, and we will place you on the ladder honestly.
Why it smells near the bottle - at a glanceStep 1 - a reed diffuser is passive: oil evaporates, nothing pushes itStep 2 - so it is strongest at the bottle and fades with distanceStep 3 - whole room evenly? An active diffuser from ₹899Step 4 - strong where you sit or sleep? Safar ₹3,999Keep the reed too · from ₹749, no power needed
Nothing has gone wrong with your reed diffuser. A reed is a passive system: the oil climbs the sticks and evaporates at whatever rate your room's warmth and air movement allow, and no part of it pushes scent anywhere. That is exactly why it is lovely at arm's length and quiet across the room. What has changed is what you now want from it. Ambience near where the bottle stands is one job; a whole room that smells of it, or a strong true scent right where you sit, is a different job, and a different job needs a different tool. This guide explains the mechanism first, then tells you honestly which tool matches which wish.
Straight answer
What size diffuser does my room actually need, with the arithmetic shown?
Two sums, two rules, then the table. The sums. Floor area multiplied by ceiling height gives cubic feet; cubic feet divided by 35.3 gives cubic metres. Rule one: fragrance fills volume, not floor, so a tall room asks more than its plan suggests. Rule two: every coverage figure describes one connected body of air - no machine pushes fragrance through a closed door, so add up only what has no door between it, and give each shut room its own source. Now, at a 10 ft ceiling. 60 sq ft bathroom = 600 cu ft = about 17m³: a reed diffuser from ₹749, and it will be the best thing in the room. 120 sq ft = 1,200 cu ft = about 34m³: a reed at the bedside for ambience, or an ultrasonic at ₹899 with the water-based Hotel Collection at ₹299 if you want the whole room. 150 sq ft = 1,500 cu ft = about 42m³: ultrasonic, Boond ₹899 or Sukoon ₹1,899. 250 sq ft = 2,500 cu ft = about 71m³: Sukoon ₹1,899 or the 6 litre Megh ₹3,499 for long unattended evenings. 400 sq ft = 4,000 cu ft = about 113m³: Megh, or the Vaayu if the space is genuinely connected and you want it held automatically. 800 sq ft = 8,000 cu ft = about 227m³: Vaayu ₹11,999. 1,200 sq ft = 12,000 cu ft = about 340m³: Vaayu. The Vaayu is waterless cold-air rated for approximately 1000m³ of connected air, and SOSA's own copy also states 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft covered evenly, with a Bluetooth app, timer and four hotel-inspired blends included. And the question the table does not ask. If your wish is not "the whole room evenly" but "strong and true right where I sit, sleep or drive", that is the waterless SOSA Safar at ₹3,999, a personal-space diffuser for which no coverage figure is published and none is quoted. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with your dimensions and we will do the sum with you. Made in India; a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: at 10 ft, 60 sq ft is about 17m³ (reed ₹749), 150 is about 42 (ultrasonic ₹899 + ₹299), 250 is about 71 (Sukoon or Megh), 800 is about 227 (Vaayu ₹11,999). WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
The honest ladder in one line: keep the reed diffuser from ₹749 for ambience near where it stands; an ultrasonic from ₹899 with the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299 when you want the whole room, water trade-offs and all; the SOSA Safar at ₹3,999, waterless and cordless, when you want it strong and true in the space you actually sit in; the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 when the space is large or open-plan. Every size, worked by hand, from a bathroom to a full open floor

The two sums, the seven sizes worked out one by one, and the two rules that decide more than the numbers do.

Why this happens in your room
Seven room sizes, worked by hand at a 10 foot ceiling
160 sq ft = 600 cu ft = about 17 m3: reed diffuser from Rs 7492120 = 1,200 = about 34: reed at the bedside, or ultrasonic for the whole room3150 = 1,500 = about 42 and 250 = 2,500 = about 71: Boond, Sukoon or Megh4400 = 4,000 = about 113, 800 = 8,000 = about 227, 1,200 = 12,000 = about 340
Keep the reed where it already works, from ₹749. If you want the whole room, an ultrasonic from ₹899 with the water-based Hotel Collection is the honest and cheaper first upgrade. If you want it strong and true right where you sit or sleep, the SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 is waterless and cordless.
1
Sizes 1 to 3
From a bathroom to a full bedroom: 17, 34 and 42 cubic metres
Start small, because this is where a reed diffuser is not a compromise but the correct product. A 60 sq ft bathroom under a 10 ft ceiling is 60 x 10 = 600 cubic feet, and 600 divided by 35.3 is about 17 cubic metres of largely still air behind a door that stays shut. A reed diffuser from ₹749 will be the best thing in that room, and no machine improves on it. Next, a 10 by 12 bedroom: 120 sq ft, so 120 x 10 = 1,200 cubic feet, about 34 cubic metres. This size has two honest answers depending on what you want. A reed on the bedside table gives you lovely ambience right where you sleep, which is what a passive product does well. If instead you want the whole room to read evenly when you walk in, that is an active machine, and a Boond at ₹899 with a water-based Hotel Collection bottle at ₹299 is ₹1,198 all in. Then a 150 sq ft bedroom: 150 x 10 = 1,500 cubic feet, about 42 cubic metres, which is two and a half times the bathroom. At this size a passive bottle can only ever be an accent, and the answer for an even room is an ultrasonic - Boond at ₹899 or Sukoon at ₹1,899, which with a fragrance bottle is ₹2,198. Notice how little the correct answer costs at every one of these sizes.
Tip: 60, 120 and 150 sq ft at 10 ft are about 17, 34 and 42 cubic metres - reed, either, and ultrasonic.
2
Sizes 4 to 7
From a sitting room to a full connected floor: 71, 113, 227 and 340
Now the sizes where the machine has to do real work. A 250 sq ft sitting room at a 10 ft ceiling is 250 x 10 = 2,500 cubic feet, about 71 cubic metres - a Sukoon at ₹1,899, or the 6 litre Megh at ₹3,499 if you want long evenings without refilling, each with the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299. A 400 sq ft space is 4,000 cubic feet, about 113 cubic metres, and this is the genuine overlap: a Megh handles it, and the Vaayu at ₹11,999 becomes the better answer if the volume is actually larger because a passage or entrance flows in, if you want the level held automatically on a timer, or if you would rather have no water in the room at all. At 800 sq ft connected you get 8,000 cubic feet, about 227 cubic metres, and the Vaayu is clearly the right machine rather than a luxury - putting two or three ultrasonics around a space that size gives you several sources at several levels instead of one even one. At 1,200 sq ft connected, 12,000 cubic feet or about 340 cubic metres, it is the only sensible free-standing answer. For reference, the Vaayu is waterless cold-air rated for approximately 1000m³ of connected air, with SOSA's own copy also stating 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft covered evenly, so at 227 or 340 cubic metres you have real headroom rather than a machine running at its limit.
3
The two rules
Count connected air, and ask what you actually want before you buy any of it
Two things override the table, and both are worth more than the arithmetic. Rule one: count connected air, not square feet. Every coverage figure in this industry describes one connected body of air, because fragrance goes where air goes and stops where air stops. A closed door is a wall as far as scent is concerned. So a 1,200 sq ft flat is not one 340 cubic metre problem - it is usually a connected living, dining and kitchen plus three sealed bedrooms, and the right arrangement is one machine sized to the connected part and its own source behind every shut door, which is most simply a reed at ₹749 each. Buying a bigger machine never solves a door. Rule two: the table answers "even", not "strong". Every recommendation above is for the wish "I want the whole room to smell of it evenly". A completely different and equally valid wish is "I want it strong and true right where I sit, sleep or drive" - and that is not a room-size question at all. It is the waterless, cordless SOSA Safar at ₹3,999, diffusing pure undiluted oil with no water and no white dust in a bedside, desk, car or hotel-room space. There is no published coverage figure for it and we quote none, precisely because it is not competing with the table. If you know which of the two wishes is yours, you already know which half of this page to read.
Tip: volume decides the machine, doors decide how many, and the wish decides whether the table applies at all.
The SOSA principle
One multiplication and one division answer most of it. Then count doors - because a coverage figure is a promise about connected air, not about your floor plan.
Area x height for cubic feet, divided by 35.3 for cubic metres, added up only where no door interrupts.

The ladder from passive to active, in order - tap any image to see it on the store
Start where you already are. Reed diffusers from ₹749 are passive: Morning Freshness ₹749, Garden Bloom ₹799, Evening Calm ₹799, Mountain Breeze ₹849 and Fresh Brew ₹849, with 130ml sizes from ₹1,249. They give you ambience near where the bottle stands, with no power, no noise and nothing that can fail, and they are still the right product for a bathroom, a bedside table, a study or a guest room. If you want the room itself to smell of it, that needs an active diffuser: Boond ₹899, Sukoon ₹1,899 or Megh ₹3,499 running the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299 (100ml refill ₹999, or the Pack of 7 at 15ml for ₹1,799). That is the honest first upgrade for a single ordinary bedroom, and it costs less than the Safar. Its trade-off, in our own words: an ultrasonic mixes the fragrance with water, which adds humidity to the room, can dilute the scent, and in hard-water areas can leave a fine white dust on nearby surfaces. If you would rather have no water at all and want the scent strong and true in the space you actually occupy, the SOSA Safar ₹3,999 is waterless, cordless and rechargeable, diffusing pure undiluted oil by cold diffusion. For a large room or a connected open-plan space, the SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 is the genuine whole-space answer at approximately 1000m³ of connected volume, and it is honestly more machine than a small bedroom needs.

The SOSA edit, passive to active

Whatever your room looks like, the logic is the same, and it has nothing to do with how big or smart your home is. A passive reed gives you scent near where it stands, and that is genuinely the right answer for a bathroom, a bedside table, a study or a guest room. An active diffuser moves scent into the air instead of waiting for the air to come and collect it, which is the only thing that turns "lovely next to the bottle" into "the room smells of it". Every SOSA product is made in India, cruelty-free and vegan, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is where each one honestly belongs.

SOSA Vaayu Active and waterless · a large or open-plan room Waterless cold-air to approximately 1000m³ of connected volume, Bluetooth app and timer, four hotel-inspired blends included. The genuine whole-space answer, and honestly oversized for a small bedroom ₹11,999
Honest notes before you spend anything. A reed diffuser is passive, and its scent is strongest at the bottle. That is the mechanism working, not a fault, and not a sign you bought the wrong thing: oil climbs the reeds and evaporates, and nothing in the design pushes that scent across a room. More reeds increase evaporation, not reach. Adding sticks makes the air near the bottle stronger and empties the bottle faster; it adds no force to carry fragrance to the other side of the room, so you get a more intense spot and a shorter-lived diffuser. Placement optimises a passive system but cannot make it active. Moving the bottle out of a direct draught, away from an open window, up to roughly seated-nose height rather than on the floor, and into the part of the room you actually use, all genuinely help - and none of them convert passive diffusion into active diffusion. Ventilation and cleaning come first. If a room smells stale, damp or of last night's cooking, open it, air it and clean it; fragrance laid on top of that only makes a more complicated smell, and it never substitutes for either. Homes are shared. Households include children, elderly relatives, pregnant family members and pets, all of whom breathe this air far longer than a visitor does, so gentle dosing is the default and the settings we suggest are lower than any machine can run. Anyone reporting a headache is a recalibration signal, not a complaint to argue with: turn it down or turn it off, and tell us. The Safar and the Vaayu run waterless oil and each ship with their own blends; the Hotel Collection bottle is water-based and belongs in the ultrasonic machines only, and the two formats are not interchangeable. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. A note from Sonal

There is a difference between a fragrance being good and a fragrance reaching you, and almost nobody is told what it is. When someone writes to me and says the reed diffuser smells wonderful up close but they cannot smell it from the bed, my first answer is always the same: nothing is wrong, and you did not buy the wrong thing. A reed diffuser is a passive object. It holds oil, the reeds draw it up, the room's warmth and air take it away at their own pace. It has no way of carrying scent to you, and it was never built to.

So the real question is not which fragrance is stronger. It is which job you want done. If you want a quiet, pleasant presence in the corner of a bathroom or beside a bed, a reed is still the most elegant thing I sell, and I would rather you kept it than replaced it. If you want the whole room to smell of something when you walk in, that needs a machine that actively moves scent into the air, and the honest first step there is one of our ultrasonics, which costs less than our waterless diffuser does. If you want it strong and true right where you sit or sleep, with no water and no dilution, that is the Safar. And if your living space is genuinely large or open-plan, that is the Vaayu, which I will happily tell you is far too much machine for a 10 by 12 bedroom.

I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and I have had this conversation hundreds of times, and I would much rather talk someone out of a purchase than sell them a disappointment. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with your room's approximate size and a line about where you actually sit or sleep in it - the bed, the desk, the sofa, the corner you read in - and we will tell you which of these you need, including when the answer is none of them. I read those messages myself. Everything is made in India, cruelty-free and vegan, and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your room gets a memory; a girl gets a classroom.

Frequently asked questions

My ceiling is 9 feet, not 10. Does that change the answers?
It changes the numbers by about ten per cent per foot, and it very rarely changes the product. Recompute with your own height rather than ours: a 150 sq ft bedroom at 9 ft is 150 x 9 = 1,350 cubic feet, which divided by 35.3 is about 38 cubic metres rather than 42, and at 11 ft it is 1,650 cubic feet, about 47. A 250 sq ft room at 9 ft is 2,250 cubic feet, about 64 cubic metres. Those shifts sit comfortably inside the same recommendation in almost every case, so a 9 ft bedroom is still an ultrasonic and a 9 ft open plan is still a Vaayu. Where height genuinely matters is a double-height room: a 600 sq ft living room at a 20 ft ceiling is 12,000 cubic feet, about 340 cubic metres on its own, which is a third of a Vaayu's connected rating from a single room, and there the right response is placement low in the space rather than a bigger machine.
What if my living, dining and kitchen are all connected?
Then measure them as one volume, because that is what the fragrance will do. Add every space with no closed door between it and the others: say a living room at 14 by 18, which is 252 sq ft, a dining area at 10 by 12, which is 120 sq ft, and a passage at 4 by 12, which is 48 sq ft. That is 420 sq ft of connected floor, and at a 10 ft ceiling it is 4,200 cubic feet, about 119 cubic metres. That number, not the living room's own 252 sq ft, is what you buy for. At about 119 cubic metres you are in the overlap between a Megh at Rs 3,499 with the water-based Hotel Collection from Rs 299 and the Vaayu at Rs 11,999, and the deciding factors are whether you want the level held automatically on a timer and whether you want water in the equation. Send us the dimensions on WhatsApp and we will do the addition with you.
Can one machine cover my whole flat if I leave the doors open?
Partly, and only while they are open, which is usually not when you want it. With every internal door open, your flat genuinely is one connected body of air, and a machine sized to that total volume will spread fragrance through it. The difficulty is that people close bedroom doors at night, for privacy, for air conditioning and for sleep, and the moment a door shuts, that room stops receiving anything at all - a closed door is a wall to scent, and the gap underneath is not a distribution system. So a strategy that depends on open doors delivers fragrance at exactly the times you are least likely to notice it and withholds it at the times you would. The reliable arrangement is one machine for the connected living area plus its own source in each bedroom, and a reed diffuser at Rs 749 per room is the simplest and quietest way to do that.
Which room size is a reed diffuser genuinely enough for?
Small and enclosed, which in most Indian homes means about 60 to 100 sq ft with a door that spends most of its time shut: a bathroom, a powder room, a small study, a wardrobe corner or a guest bedroom that is not aired all day. At 60 sq ft and a 10 ft ceiling that is 600 cubic feet, about 17 cubic metres, and at 100 sq ft it is 1,000 cubic feet, about 28 cubic metres - small enough for slow, steady evaporation to build a concentration your nose meets immediately on opening the door. A reed is also genuinely enough at any room size if what you want is ambience beside the bottle rather than an even room, which is why a bedside reed in a 150 sq ft bedroom is a perfectly good purchase. What it cannot do at any size is project across a space, because nothing in a passive system carries scent outward.
How do I choose between the Megh and the Vaayu at around 400 sq ft?
Ask three questions rather than comparing the price. First, is the space really 400 sq ft, or does it flow into an entrance, a passage or a stair void with no door, which would make the true connected volume considerably larger than 113 cubic metres? Second, do you want to top up a tank, or do you want a level that holds itself on a Bluetooth timer and needs no attention? Third, do you want water in the room at all, given that an ultrasonic adds humidity, dilutes the oil slightly and can leave white dust where the supply is hard? If the answers are that the space is contained, you do not mind refilling and the humidity is welcome, the Megh at Rs 3,499 with the water-based Hotel Collection from Rs 299 is the sensible buy. If the connected volume is larger than the plan suggests and you want it automatic and waterless, that is the Vaayu at Rs 11,999. WhatsApp us the layout and we will say which.

SOSA — passive reeds and active diffusers so the fragrance you already love actually reaches you
Two sums decide it: area x height for cubic feet, divided by 35.3 for cubic metres. About 17m³ is a reed from ₹749; about 34m³ to 71m³ is an ultrasonic from ₹899 with the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299; about 113m³ upward is a Megh at ₹3,499 or the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 for approximately 1000m³ of connected air. Want it strong where you sit rather than even across the room? The waterless SOSA Safar at ₹3,999. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with your dimensions. Editorial standards & sources
About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the passive-versus-active reasoning applies to any brand's products.

Facts verified August 2026: A reed diffuser is a passive system - oil travels up the reeds by capillary action and evaporates at the rate the room's temperature and air movement allow, so concentration is highest at the bottle and falls away with distance. A SOSA reed diffuser lasts about 6 to 10 weeks. Reed prices: Morning Freshness ₹749, Garden Bloom ₹799, Evening Calm ₹799, Mountain Breeze ₹849, Fresh Brew ₹849; 130ml sizes from ₹1,249. An active diffuser adds energy to move fragrance into the air. SOSA's ultrasonic machines are Boond (₹899), Sukoon (₹1,899) and Megh 6L (₹3,499); they run the water-based SOSA Hotel Collection, 15ml ₹299, 100ml refill ₹999, Pack of 7 at 15ml ₹1,799. An ultrasonic mixes fragrance with water, which adds humidity to the room, can dilute the scent, and in hard-water areas can leave white dust. The SOSA Safar (₹3,999) is a waterless, cordless, rechargeable cold-diffusion perfume diffuser with a 2000 mAh battery, diffusing pure undiluted oil with no water and no white dust; SOSA's own copy lists it as best for car, handbag, work desk, bedside, hotel and travel, work-from-home and gifting. It ships with three hotel-inspired waterless blends, chosen as one of three bundles: Ritz-Carlton Inspired, Westin Inspired and 1 Hotels Inspired; St. Regis Inspired, Shangri-La Inspired and Four Seasons Inspired; or W Hotels Inspired, Ritz-Carlton Inspired and Westin Inspired. No square-foot or cubic-metre coverage figure is published for the Safar, so none is stated here or anywhere else by us; it is a personal-space diffuser, not a whole-room machine. The SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air system covering approximately 1000m³ of connected volume, with a Bluetooth app and timer, and it ships with four hotel-inspired waterless blends included in the box. Format distinction: the Safar and the Vaayu run waterless oil and each arrive with their own blends, while the ₹299 Hotel Collection bottle is water-based and goes into the ultrasonic machines only. The two formats are not interchangeable. Scent perception is personal and varies between people in the same room, and coverage figures assume connected air volume rather than closed doors. Ventilation and cleaning come first; fragrance is an addition to a well-kept room and never a substitute for either, and we make no health, therapeutic or air-purification claims. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any hotel brand. Made in India, cruelty-free and vegan. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Questions about a specific room are answered on WhatsApp: +91 96192 18531.
