Six things cover almost all of it, and they are worth having in the order you will actually need them.
Quick answers — read this first
What would you tell an interior designer specifying home fragrance for the first time? Six things in order: fix the sources first, read the doors rather than the area, spend at the entrance and guest bathroom, set the level by rule, choose the register last, and write it all down.

What is the single most important one? Fixing the sources. Fragrance combines with an existing smell rather than masking it, so a perfect scheme over an unaddressed problem is worse than nothing.

What do first-timers get wrong most often? They spend their attention on the register and none on the plan and the level, which are the two things that actually decide whether the scheme works.
The short answer
Short answer: Sources, doors, two positions, a level rule, the scent last, and write it down.
The pick: the SOSA Safar (₹3,999) as the flagship delivery gift; volume gifts from ₹299; reed diffusers from ₹749; the Vaayu (₹11,999) for your own premises.

Customer gifting that compounds - the SOSA method at a glanceStep 1 - gift the moment: delivery day, possession, checkout, milestone purchaseStep 2 - set the per-unit band: ₹299 to ₹3,999 by customer valueStep 3 - brand the gesture: your card, your story, our fragranceStep 4 - pilot small, then scale to 50, 100, 500 unitsWhatsApp the bulk desk for volume pricing
A customer gift works when it survives the drive home - sweets vanish in a day and keychains join a drawer, but a fragrance is used daily in the customer's own car or living room, replaying your brand at every use. The method: gift the milestone moment, set the per-unit band by customer value, brand the gesture with your card, pilot and scale. This guide walks the exact play, with real SOSA options at every band.
Straight answer
What would you tell an interior designer specifying home fragrance for the first time?
Six things, in the order you will need them. One: fix the sources first. Fragrance combines with an existing smell rather than masking it, and the combination is worse than either alone - so cooking, damp, drains, dry traps, musty textiles and a curing fit-out all come before any product. Two: read the doors, not the area. A machine distributes through connected moving air and cannot cross a closed door, so the number of separated zones decides the specification - one machine per connected volume, a reed in every closed room. Three: spend at two positions. The entrance and the guest bathroom are the only places read by an unadapted nose, and together they beat the rest of the house. Both are reeds from ₹749. Four: set the level by rule, not by nose. Everybody adapts within an hour, so anybody adjusting by smell climbs forever - low, continuous, corrected only if a visitor remarks. Five: choose the register last, from three you can defend, and pick the plain one. Six: write it down - locations, level, the rule, the machine instruction, the reorder path. Month four is when an unwritten scheme dies. Vaayu ₹11,999, reeds from ₹749, Hotel Collection from ₹299. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

Six things, in the order you will need them

Six things cover almost all of it, and they are worth having in the order you will actually need them rather than in order of interest, because the interesting one comes last. One: fix the sources first. This is the rule that outranks everything else in the category and it is the one most often skipped. Fragrance does not mask an existing smell - it combines with it, and the combination is consistently worse than either component alone, and it reads unmistakably as a house hiding something. So cooking that drifts from a kitchen with inadequate extraction, monsoon damp, drains and dry traps in unused bathrooms, musty rugs and cane furniture, a store sealed since completion, and a fit-out still off-gassing paint, sealers, adhesives and engineered board all come before any product decision. If any of those are present, the specification is extraction, dehumidification, cleaning or time, and fragrance comes afterwards as the finishing layer. Saying that to a client is also the fastest way to be believed about everything else you recommend. Two: read the doors, not the floor area. A machine distributes fragrance through connected moving air and cannot cross a closed door, so a home divides into zones bounded by the doors that are normally shut, and the number of those zones - not the square footage - decides the specification. Mark every normally closed door on the plan and the answer appears: each connected zone takes one machine, and each closed room takes a reed. A typical four-bedroom home is one machine and eight to twelve reeds; a large villa might be one machine and fourteen. It also means the honest answer to a client whose fragrance does not reach the back bedroom is a reed in that room rather than a larger machine, because a bigger machine still cannot cross a closed door. And it means the electrical drawing needs very little: one socket per connected volume, at console height, because reeds need no power at all. Three: spend at two positions. The entrance and the guest bathroom are the only two places in a home where fragrance is read by an unadapted nose. Everybody adapts to a steady background within about an hour, so the family cannot smell their own house and a guest twenty minutes into the living room has largely stopped reading it - the only unadapted nose in a building is the one that has just come in from outside, and the only room that resets an adapted nose on every entry is a small enclosed one entered from another room's air. Those two positions produce more of the effect a client is describing than the rest of the house combined, and both are served by reeds at Rs 749 to Rs 849, three to four months a bottle, refills at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml, roughly Rs 200 to Rs 280 per room per month. If a budget stretches to two things, those are the two. Four: set the level by rule rather than by nose. This is what decides whether a scheme succeeds or quietly embarrasses you. Because everybody adapts within about an hour, a household setting the level by smell will turn it up, stop noticing, and turn it up again - the input to the decision is a sensation that always fades, so the system only ever climbs, ending in a house visitors find strong and the family cannot detect at all. Set it low, run it continuously rather than in strong bursts, and give the client a written rule: leave it alone, and adjust only if somebody who does not live there remarks on it, because a remark means it is above the line. Set intensity inversely to exposure time - an entrance can carry the most because nobody stays in it, a living room takes a moderate level set for the family rather than the visitor, and a master bedroom takes the lowest in the house because it is eight unbroken hours for two people who cannot leave. Five: choose the register last, and choose the plain one. It is the cheapest and most reversible decision in the whole layer - a bottle from Rs 299 for 15ml, Rs 999 for 100ml or Rs 1,799 for 300ml, swapped in a minute - which is why it should not consume the attention. Bring three options you can defend and let the client choose between them, the same division you already use with fabric: you hold the technical constraint and they hold the preference. Quiet Luxury, with white tea, bergamot and cedar, is the safe centre and has enough structure to register as something without being identifiable. Forest Suite, with cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves, suits a material-led scheme. White Tea Serenity, with white tea, aloe and cedar, is the softest. And resist the instinct towards something distinctive, because a fragrance a guest can name has become a thing in the room rather than a quality of it. One register throughout the home, varied by intensity rather than by scent, because two registers meet in doorways many times a day and the collision reads as something being slightly wrong. The seven Hotel Collection registers are SOSA's own interpretations, and we are independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand. Six: write it down. A handover pack is what keeps this working after you have gone, and its job is to remove decisions so the client never has to make one. It should carry the register and where each item sits room by room, because objects migrate; the level and schedule you set; the correction rule; the machine instruction - water-based Hotel Collection only, three to six drops per tank, rinse between scents, never reed oil, which can damage a machine; and the reorder path, because reeds are consumed by time rather than by use and month four is when an unattended scheme quietly stops working. A layer that died is remembered as having died, which is worse for a practice than one never specified. Write the exclusions in as excluded rather than absent, too: never the kitchen at any time, because cooking smell is aerosolised oil and the answer is extraction; no fragrance in children's rooms; a covered terrace, balcony or verandah cannot hold fragrance because the air is not enclosed, and a larger machine does not change the physics; nothing in staff quarters or utility areas. And add the consent line: anybody who shares the home and cannot leave a room they did not choose the scent for gets a low neutral register and a physical off switch, not an app-only one, that they never have to justify using. On systems, the plan decides: the Vaayu at Rs 11,999 for a large connected volume, waterless with no tank, coverage up to 1,000 square metres or roughly 10,700 square feet, with Bluetooth app and timer control; the Megh at Rs 3,499 with a 6L tank; the Sukoon at Rs 1,799 for a single room; the Boond at Rs 799 for a small one; and reeds behind every closed door. Two last things. Raise this at specification stage rather than at handover, because at the end it has the shape of an object being sold and in the schedule beside lighting and ironmongery it is a layer being drawn. And make no claim that fragrance affects mood, focus, sleep, stress or wellbeing - we make none, and a proposal that does is a liability rather than a selling point. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Volume pricing across a project is quoted against the specification on WhatsApp.

Why this works
The six, in order
1 One: fix the sources. Fragrance combines, it never masks 2 Two: read the doors. They decide coverage, not the area 3 Three: spend at the entrance and the guest bathroom 4 Four: set the level by rule. Five: choose the scent last. Six: write it down
The flagship delivery gift: the SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 - a rechargeable waterless car diffuser with three hotel-inspired scents in the box. Per-unit gifts from ₹299; volume pricing on WhatsApp.
01
Sources, then doors
The two that decide everything
Fragrance combines with an existing smell rather than masking it, so cooking, damp, drains and curing materials come first. Then the doors, because a machine cannot cross a closed one.
Tip: Zone count sets the specification, not square footage.
02
Two positions, then a rule
Entrance, guest bathroom, and a level that cannot drift
Those two are the only places read by an unadapted nose, and together they beat the rest of the house. Then set the level by rule, because anybody adjusting by nose climbs forever.
03
The scent last, and write it down
Because month four kills an unwritten scheme
The register is the cheapest and most reversible decision, so bring three and let the client choose. Then a pack: locations, level, the rule, the machine instruction, the reorder path.
Tip: A layer that died is remembered as having died.
The SOSA principle
The interesting decision is the last one, and it is also the cheapest.
Everything that matters happens before you open a bottle.

Everything that matters, once

Six things, in the order you will need them. Fix the sources first, because fragrance combines with an existing smell rather than masking it and the combination is worse than either alone - cooking from inadequate extraction, monsoon damp, drains and dry traps, musty rugs and cane, a sealed store, a fit-out still off-gassing. If any are present the specification is extraction, dehumidification, cleaning or time, and fragrance follows. Read the doors, not the floor area: a machine cannot cross a closed door, so the number of separated zones decides everything - each connected zone one machine, each closed room a reed, which makes a four-bedroom home one machine and eight to twelve reeds, and means the answer to an unreached bedroom is a reed rather than a bigger machine. It also means one socket per connected volume at console height, because reeds need no power. Spend at two positions: the entrance and the guest bathroom, the only places read by an unadapted nose, since everybody adapts within about an hour - together they beat the rest of the house, both reeds at Rs 749 to Rs 849, three to four months a bottle, roughly Rs 200 to Rs 280 per room per month. Set the level by rule rather than by nose, because anybody adjusting by smell climbs forever, the input being a sensation that always fades - low, continuous, corrected only on an outsider's remark - with intensity inverse to exposure: entrance highest, living room moderate and set for the family, master bedroom lowest at eight unbroken hours for two people who cannot leave. Choose the register last and choose the plain one: it is the cheapest and most reversible decision, from Rs 299 for 15ml, Rs 999 for 100ml and Rs 1,799 for 300ml, so bring three you can defend and let the client pick - Quiet Luxury as the safe centre, Forest Suite for a material-led scheme, White Tea Serenity as the softest - and resist distinctiveness, because a nameable fragrance has become a thing in the room. One register throughout, varied by intensity. And write it down: locations room by room since objects migrate, the level and schedule, the correction rule, the machine instruction - Hotel Collection only, three to six drops, never reed oil - and the reorder path, because month four is when an unattended scheme dies and a layer that died is remembered as having died. Write the exclusions in as excluded: never the kitchen, nothing in children's rooms, no covered terrace, nothing in staff or utility areas, plus a physical off switch for anyone who cannot leave. Systems: the SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 with coverage to 1,000 m², SOSA Megh at Rs 3,499, SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,799, SOSA Boond at Rs 799. Raise it at specification stage rather than handover, and make no claim about mood, focus, sleep, stress or wellbeing. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards. Volume pricing is quoted on WhatsApp.

The SOSA business gifting edit

Whatever your business gifts, the logic is the same: gift the milestone moment, set the per-unit band by customer value, keep the register gentle and crowd-safe, and brand the gesture with your card rather than your logo on the product. Every SOSA fragrance is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so every customer gift quietly gives twice. Here is the full business range by per-unit band.

Honest notes for business gifters: customer taste varies, so volume programmes should run gentle, crowd-tested registers - fresh, clean and lightly floral scents are received well across every profile, and space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) avoid the personal-taste risk of skin perfume entirely. Listed prices are per-unit store prices; volume pricing, pilot batches, branded cards and custom hamper builds are quoted on WhatsApp - and signature-scent development for your brand is a consultation with our perfumer, not an off-the-shelf item, so timelines are discussed case by case. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with any hotel brand. Ultrasonic diffusers use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil - the two are not interchangeable. All personal fragrances are alcohol-free and IFRA-compliant. WhatsApp bulk desk: +91 96192 18531. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.

I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.

And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.

Editorial standards & sources
About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the customer-gifting advice applies whatever your business finally buys.

Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume. SOSA range: Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance from Rs 299; car perfumes from Rs 449 (spray and hanging, alcohol-free); attars Nawaab, Ameeri, Mastani and Adaa from Rs 379 (3ml/6ml/12ml, alcohol-free); Attar Trio from Rs 1,055; perfumes from Rs 499; reed diffusers from Rs 749; Boond Rs 799, Sukoon Rs 1,799 and Megh Rs 3,499 ultrasonic diffusers; SOSA Safar waterless car and travel diffuser Rs 3,999 (rechargeable, three hotel-inspired scents included); SOSA Vaayu waterless scent machine Rs 11,999 (~1000m³, app + timer). Listed prices are per-unit store prices; volume pricing and branding are quoted on WhatsApp. The Hotel Collection and hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own interpretations; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel or perfume house named for comparison.
