The best appliance showrooms no longer look like electronics stores. They look like homes - a kitchen you could cook in, a living room you could sit in. The air should say the same thing. A beautifully kept home smells of almost nothing, and what it does smell of is dry, clean and quiet.
Quick answers — read this first
What should a premium home-appliance showroom smell like? Like a beautifully kept home rather than a store or a fragrance: dry cedar, a little tea or sage, light woods, or a clean lemon-and-mint on a white, glass-fronted floor - held at a level the advisor who stands there nine hours a day has stopped noticing. Nothing sweet, nothing edible, nothing that announces itself as a candle or a perfume, because a showroom designed as a home should smell like one.
Which parts of an appliance showroom should be scented? The sales floor - entrance approach, displays, corridors between the kitchens, the reception desk. Not the live kitchen, the hob or oven demo, or the coffee-tasting counter, because the smell of what is being cooked or brewed is the product demonstration and ambient fragrance must never compete with it. The machine sits on the reception side, on a timer, and is switched off while a demo runs.
What is the honest way to do this? Under about 750 sq ft, one SOSA reed diffuser in the Mountain Breeze or Morning Freshness register (Rs 749-849) or a SOSA Sukoon (Rs 1,899) at the desk. From about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor, one SOSA Vaayu (Rs 11,999): waterless, so it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on the displays, with a timer, adjustable intensity and a key-lock so the level stays where it was set. From 3,000 sq ft, one SOSA Angaan (Rs 25,999). Fragrance here is an interiors decision like lighting or music - SOSA makes no claim that it changes footfall, dwell time or sales, and no claim about what it does to any appliance.
The short answer
Short answer: like a beautifully kept home - dry cedar, tea, light woods, or lemon-mint on a white floor - at a level your own staff have stopped noticing. Scent the sales floor; leave the live kitchen and coffee counter unscented; set it for the advisor, not the visitor.
Next step: send a floor plan with the live kitchen and AC returns marked and we will say honestly which machine, if any, and where - ask for a showroom scenting plan.
What should a premium home-appliance showroom smell like?
Like a home that someone keeps beautifully, and not like a store. That sentence does most of the work, so it is worth unpacking. A well-kept home does not smell of a fragrance; it smells of clean surfaces, dry wood, the faint green of something on a windowsill, air that has moved recently. Translate that into a register and you get dry cedar, sage, a little tea, light woods for a floor built in walnut, stone and dark glass, and a clean lemon-and-mint for a white, handleless, glass-fronted one. What you leave out matters more: nothing sweet, nothing amber-heavy, nothing powdery, and in a kitchen-appliance showroom nothing edible at all - no vanilla, no coffee, no bakery - because the hob, the oven and the coffee counter own those smells and the moment the air does too, the demonstration has competition. Then the level. In a showroom the person who matters is not the visitor who walks through for forty minutes; it is the advisor who stands on that floor nine hours a day. Set it for them: noticed at the first display, forgotten by the specification table, and if the team says it is too much, it is too much. Hard surfaces make this stricter - steel, glass, lacquer and stone bounce a fragrance around and there is almost no fabric to absorb it, so an appliance floor sits a step below a furniture showroom. Then the map, and this is the rule the rest of this cluster is built on. Scent the sales floor. Never scent the demonstration. A live kitchen where a chef is searing something, an oven demo, a coffee-tasting counter - the smell of what is being cooked or brewed is the product being sold, and ambient fragrance stops at the edge of that zone. The machine lives on the reception side of the floor, runs on a timer, and is switched off while a demo runs; extraction, not fragrance, clears the room afterwards, and the scent comes back only once the air smells of nothing. As for the machine: under about 750 sq ft one Mountain Breeze or Morning Freshness reed (₹749-849) or a SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) at the desk is the honest answer. From about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, so it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on the displays, with a 1h/4h/8h/24h timer, adjustable intensity and a key-lock so a busy floor cannot drift it upward. Past about 3,000 sq ft, one SOSA Angaan at ₹25,999, not a second Vaayu in the same air. None of this is a business case. Fragrance is an interiors decision, like lighting or music: SOSA makes no claim that it changes footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales, and no claim about what it does to any appliance or finish on display. Ask for a showroom scenting plan and we will mark up your floor plan, demo zones excluded.
A beautifully kept home: dry cedar, tea, light woods, or lemon-mint on a white floor, set for the advisor who stands there all day. Sales floor scented; live kitchen and coffee counter never. Vaayu (Rs 11,999) from about 1,500 sq ft; a reed or Sukoon below; Angaan past 3,000.
For a connected sales floor of roughly 1,500-3,000 sq ft, one SOSA Vaayu - waterless, 1000m³, timer and key-lock - at ₹11,999 is the whole installation. Smaller than that, start with a reed at the desk.
Two honest answers, depending on how much connected sales floor you have. The images link to the product pages so every figure here can be checked directly.
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³ - about 2,000-3,000 sq ft - on one unit, Rs 11,999. No water, so no added humidity and no residue on steel, glass or screens; 1h/4h/8h/24h timer so it runs trading hours and switches off for demos; adjustable intensity; key-lock so nobody on the floor turns it up; under 38dB; wall or HVAC mount so the source sits where the AC will carry it.
Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar - the driest register SOSA makes and the showroom default for wood, stone and dark-glass floors. Alcohol-free, six fibre reeds, flip weekly. 50ml Rs 849 lasts 6-8 weeks at a reception desk; 130ml Rs 1,349 lasts 14-18 weeks. Reaches one desk zone, which is exactly right for a small studio.
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft) on a single unit, Rs 11,999, adjustable intensity, 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, key-lock. Wall or HVAC mount so the source sits on the reception side, away from the hood. CE, RoHS, SGS certified. Made in India.
The five things that decide the smell of a showroom
Five decisions, in the order they should be taken. The first two are about the fragrance, the middle two are about the building, and the last is about the demonstration that must never be interfered with.
1
Register
A home, not a store and not a fragrance
The mistake most showrooms make is choosing a scent because it smells expensive on a blotter. Expensive on a blotter usually means sweet, ambery or oud-led, and on a floor of steel and glass those read as a perfume counter. A home that is kept well smells of clean surfaces, dry wood and moving air, so the register is cedar, sage, tea, light woods, a clean mineral note - and on a white, handleless floor, lemon and mint. In a kitchen-appliance showroom add one hard exclusion: nothing edible, because the hob and the coffee counter own those smells. In the SOSA range that is Mountain Breeze first and Morning Freshness for the white floor. Fresh Brew, Garden Bloom and Evening Calm are good products pointed the wrong way here: coffee, rose and lavender all announce themselves.
Test: if a visitor could reasonably ask where the candles are sold, the register is wrong.
Mountain Breeze - pine, sage and cedar. The driest scent SOSA makes, and the showroom default.
A visitor meets your fragrance for forty minutes. Your floor team meets it for nine hours, five or six days a week. Set the level for them: noticed at the first display, forgotten by the specification table, and un-nameable by anyone standing at the desk. Two things push an appliance floor lower than most retail. Hard surfaces - steel, glass, stone, lacquer - bounce fragrance around and there is almost no fabric to absorb it. And a showroom designed as a home is judged as a home: nobody wants their kitchen to smell of a fragrance. A machine with adjustable intensity and a key-lock - which is what the Vaayu is - exists so that the right setting, once found, stays found on a floor with many hands.
Rule: if the team says it is too much, it is too much. Levels on a shop floor only ever drift upward.
3
The map
Scent the sales floor - never the demonstration
This is the rule that makes the cluster honest. A live kitchen, an oven or hob demo, a coffee-tasting counter: the smell of what is being cooked or brewed is the product demonstration, and ambient fragrance must never compete with it. Two smells in one air make a third, and the third is what the visitor remembers. So the demo zone stays unscented, the machine sits on the reception side of the floor, it runs on a timer and is switched off while a demonstration runs, and extraction - not fragrance - clears the room afterwards. The scent returns only when the air smells of nothing. The same logic covers a home-theatre demo room, which is small, sealed and about sound and picture: leave it neutral and let a trace enter from the corridor. Should a showroom with a live kitchen use commercial fragrance works through the whole family of questions.
Rule: the way to keep scent out of the demo kitchen is placement, extraction and a timer - never a lower setting inside it.
4
The building
Fix the electronics-store smell first - fragrance never covers it
Before any fragrance is chosen, an appliance showroom should smell of nothing in particular, and new ones rarely do. The electronics-store smell is a short list: new plastic and packaging off-gassing, warm circuitry and dust on vents, cardboard in the back store, and air sealed overnight with the AC off. None of these is a fragrance problem and none is solved by fragrance. Unbox in the back, ventilate before opening, clean the tops of appliances and the vents, get cardboard out of sight, run fresh air for an hour before the doors open. Fragrance over off-gassing is a worse smell than either alone. Ventilation vs fragrance in a new showroom gives the order.
Rule: if the floor smells of something you did not choose, that is the job. Fragrance comes after.
5
The air
Running demo appliances move air - place for it, do not fight it
An appliance floor is the only kind of showroom where the merchandise itself moves the air. Display air-conditioners on demo, a running chimney, an air purifier on a plinth, an open built-in fridge spilling cold air - each pulls or pushes the fragrance out of its zone, and each is correct to do so. Do not compensate by turning up. Place the source where the AC supply will carry it across the sales floor and away from the returns, high on the wall the displays face, and accept that the zone in front of a running hood will smell of nothing. That is the demonstration working. A wall or HVAC mount - which the Vaayu allows - is what lets you choose that wall rather than the nearest socket. And through all of it, one thing about the merchandise: SOSA makes no claim about what fragrance does to any appliance, screen or finish; the only product fact is that a waterless machine adds no moisture and leaves no residue.
The Vaayu runs on a timer, holds its level under a key-lock, mounts on the wall you choose, and switches off in one press for a demo.
A premium appliance showroom should smell like a beautifully kept home on the sales floor, and like the demonstration everywhere the demonstration is running.
Dry, clean and quiet. Set for the advisor. Stopped at the edge of the live kitchen. The machine is only how you keep it there.
One machine, one low level, one floor: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999, waterless, timer and key-lock, up to 1000m³ of connected sales floor.
Zone by zone: what carries scent and what never does
Here is the same answer laid over a typical appliance experience centre. Mark your live kitchen and your AC returns on the plan and most of the decisions make themselves.
The SOSA plan
An appliance showroom, zone by zone
The zone
What it should smell like
Entrance approach, first displays, reception desk
Dry and clean, noticed on arrival and forgotten within a minute. This is where the machine lives - one Vaayu from about 1,500 sq ft, a reed or Sukoon below that. View →
Display kitchens and corridors between them
A trace of the same scent, carried by the AC. Nothing placed inside a display kitchen - a source in a small enclosed set over-scents it in minutes. View →
Live kitchen, hob and oven demo
Nothing. The demonstration owns the air. Machine off on the timer while a demo runs; extraction during and after; scent returns when the room smells of nothing.
Coffee-tasting counter
Nothing, always. Coffee is the demonstration and the most fragrance-sensitive tasting there is.
Home-theatre or AC demo room
Neutral. Small, sealed rooms over-scent quickly and running display ACs strip scent anyway. A trace from the corridor is the most it should carry.
Second floor or a separately air-handled wing
Its own machine, same scent, same level test - a second Vaayu for a second volume, or one Angaan on a shared plant past about 3,000 sq ft. View →
Your visitor meets the fragrance for forty minutes. Your advisor meets it for nine hours. Set it for the advisor, and stop it at the edge of the kitchen.

The SOSA appliance-showroom specification
A well-kept home - sized to the sales floor, never to the demo kitchen
500ml ultrasonic, 16-18 hours on low, covers roughly 270-320 sq ft; water-based, so it does add a little moisture - say so honestly on an electronics floor
Between 750 and 1,500 sq ft a Vaayu is bought for control, no water and distribution - never for coverage. The four 100ml bottles in the Vaayu box are the supply; confirm refill availability with SOSA before you plan on it. Fragrance here is an interiors decision like lighting or music, with no claim about footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales, and no claim about what it does to any appliance or finish. It works alongside ventilation, cleaning and extraction, never instead of them. The live kitchen and coffee counter stay unscented.Ask for a showroom scenting plan and we will mark up your floor plan honestly.

A note from Sonal
Appliance showrooms are the vertical where I most often get shown a photograph before a floor plan. The photograph is beautiful - a kitchen in walnut and black glass, a living room with a screen the size of a wall - and the owner wants the air to match. I understand the instinct, and the answer is almost always less than they expect: a home that is kept well does not smell of a fragrance. It smells of clean surfaces and dry wood and air that has moved. Cedar, sage, a little tea. Lemon and mint if the floor is white. Nothing sweet, and in a kitchen showroom nothing edible, because the hob is going to be lit and the coffee machine is going to be running and those are the smells you are selling.
The second thing I say is: watch your own floor team at five in the afternoon, not your visitors at eleven in the morning. They breathe it all day. If they say it is too much, it is too much, and the key-lock on the Vaayu exists so that the setting you found together stays found. Then mark the live kitchen on the plan and treat its edge as a wall: the machine on the reception side, off on the timer while a demo runs, extraction doing the clearing afterwards. The demonstration owns the air while it is running. That is not a compromise; that is the showroom working.
The machine is the least interesting part. Under about 750 sq ft a Mountain Breeze reed at the desk is the honest answer. From about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor, one Vaayu at ₹11,999 on a timer with the lock on; past about 3,000, one Angaan. And through all of it: no claim that fragrance moves footfall, dwell time or sales, and no claim about what it does to anything on display. It is an interiors decision, like lighting or music. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
What should a premium home-appliance showroom smell like?
Like a beautifully kept home rather than a store or a fragrance: dry cedar, sage, a little tea and light woods on a floor of wood, stone or dark glass, or a clean lemon-and-mint on a white, handleless, glass-fronted floor. Nothing sweet, powdery or amber-heavy, and in a kitchen-appliance showroom nothing edible, because the hob and coffee counter own those smells. In the SOSA range that is Mountain Breeze first, Morning Freshness for the white floor.
Should the live kitchen or coffee counter in an appliance showroom be scented?
No. The smell of what is being cooked or brewed is the product demonstration, and ambient fragrance must never compete with it. The demo zone stays unscented, the machine sits on the reception side of the floor, it is switched off on the timer while a demonstration runs, and extraction rather than fragrance clears the room afterwards. Scent returns only once the air smells of nothing.
How strong should the fragrance be on an appliance sales floor?
Lower than most retail. Set it for the advisor who stands on the floor nine hours a day, not the visitor who is there for forty minutes: noticed at the first display, forgotten by the specification table, un-nameable at the desk. Hard surfaces such as steel, glass and stone bounce fragrance around with almost no fabric to absorb it, so an appliance floor sits a step below a furniture showroom. If the team says it is too much, it is too much.
Which SOSA machine does an appliance showroom need?
It depends on connected sales floor, not on the number of displays. Under about 750 sq ft, a Mountain Breeze or Morning Freshness reed diffuser at Rs 749-849 or a SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,899 at the desk. From about 1,500 sq ft, one SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999, waterless, on a timer with a key-lock. Past about 3,000 sq ft of one connected floor, one SOSA Angaan at Rs 25,999 rather than a second Vaayu in the same air.
Does ambient fragrance help an appliance showroom sell more?
SOSA makes no such claim, and a supplier who offers you a figure is selling. Ambient fragrance in a showroom is an interiors and hospitality decision, like lighting or music. It does not change footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales in any way SOSA will assert, and SOSA makes no claim about what it does to any appliance, screen or finish on display. The only product fact is that a waterless machine adds no moisture and leaves no residue.
On during trading hours, off for the demo, locked in between: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999, waterless, for the sales floor.

Facts verified 7 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days a fill depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, operation under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W (roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month on a ten-hour daily schedule), freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification - electrical and compliance marks. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or displays; the four 100ml bottles in the box are the supply, and refill availability should be confirmed with SOSA. The SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) is an HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to 3,000m³, roughly 8,000-10,000 sq ft, with an 800ml reservoir, metal body, programmable schedules and operation under 42dB; the SOSA Meenar (₹38,500) is the HVAC machine for 12,000-18,000 sq ft. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is a 500ml water-based ultrasonic diffuser for a single room of roughly 270-320 sq ft. Ambient fragrance in a showroom is an interior and hospitality decision: SOSA makes no claim that it changes dwell time, footfall, conversion, basket size, sales or any other business number, no claim about what it does to any appliance, surface or finish on display, and it is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or extraction. Warranty, installation, service and bulk terms are confirmed with SOSA directly. The hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own original interpretations; SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel or appliance brand named for reference.
