What do I buy for the relative whose taste I cannot read at all? The Attar Trio at ₹1,055 - Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani in one box - or a reed diffuser from ₹749, because a room has no opinion about jasmine and a person does.
How should I split a budget across a family list? Pick one baseline everybody gets - say a 3ml attar from ₹379 or a 50ml reed from ₹749 - then spend the remainder on one or two anchor gifts where you actually know the person's taste.
The three rules that turn eight different people into one shopping decision
A family list is a logistics problem dressed up as a taste problem. You have a fixed budget, a fixed afternoon, several people you know well, several you do not, and a room where all of it gets opened within ten minutes of each other. These three rules are what make that tractable.
The price arithmetic helps here rather than fighting you. The attars run ₹379, ₹385, ₹389 and ₹399 in 3ml - a twenty-rupee spread across four genuinely different fragrances, which is small enough that nobody is counting. The 50ml reeds run ₹749, ₹799 and ₹849, a hundred-rupee spread across five. Neither gap is visible on a table. A ₹449 car perfume next to a ₹1,899 machine very much is.
The second hedge is to gift the home instead of the person. A reed diffuser from ₹749 is given to a household, and households do not have a signature scent to get wrong. This is why a family list often ends up mixed by recipient type rather than by taste: individuals you know get an attar, couples and households you do not get a reed, and the two or three genuinely unreadable people get the Trio.
Keep the anchor in the same product family as the baseline if you can - a larger size of the same thing reads as warmth, while a different category reads as a tier. And do not move one person up in a way that is visible on the table unless you are willing for it to be visible, because it will be. If the list is long and you would rather talk it through than plan it, describe the people on WhatsApp and get the split suggested for you.
- Choose the format once: attars for individuals, reeds for whole households.
- Set one baseline size everybody gets - 3ml attars run Rs 379 to Rs 399.
- Move anyone you cannot read to the Attar Trio at Rs 1,055 and stop guessing.
- Spend what is left on one or two anchors, in a bigger size of the same product.
One product family, several scents - and how the range actually splits
Here is how the range actually splits when you are matching several people at once. The attars cover four clear characters in one band: Adaa is bergamot, green cardamom and jasmine sambac for somebody who wears light things; Ameeri is Taif rose, Indian sandalwood and Persian saffron for warmth; Mastani is night jasmine, damask rose and oudh for evening; Nawaab is white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood and Kashmir saffron for formality. The reeds cover five moods at ₹749 to ₹849 in 50ml: lemon-mint, rose-jasmine, lavender-chamomile, pine-sage-cedar and coffee-vanilla. And car fragrance at ₹449 to ₹549 is the right family for the relatives you mainly know as drivers, with each scent in a mild hanging format and a stronger spray at the same price.
| Scent | Why it suits the mood |
|---|---|
| Four attars, one size · ₹379 to ₹399 each | The cleanest structure for a list of individuals. One format, one size, four genuinely different characters, and a spread of twenty rupees that nobody will register. Move up to 6ml at ₹669 to ₹699 for everybody if the budget allows - just move everybody together. |
| Attar Trio as the hedge · ₹1,055 | Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani in one box for the two or three people whose taste you have no read on at all. The decision moves to them, which is the only honest way to handle a person you see twice a year. Also the natural gift for a couple rather than an individual. |
| Reeds for households · ₹749 to ₹1,349 | Given to a home rather than a person, so there is no taste to guess. Five scents, 50ml from ₹749 and 130ml from ₹1,249, about 6 to 10 weeks each. Use this row for the aunt and uncle you visit once a year and the cousin who just moved. |
| Car fragrance for the drivers · ₹449 to ₹549 | Nine scents, each as a mild hanging format or a stronger spray at the same price, with saver combos at ₹899 to ₹949. Only use this family if you are using it for several people - a single ₹449 gift sitting next to a ₹1,055 box is the exact comparison you were trying to avoid. |
One thing not to do, however tempting it looks. Do not solve a mixed list by buying the cheapest item in four different categories, because that produces the ranking you were trying to avoid and it also produces four different conversations about what the thing is and how it works. If the budget is tight, the better move is one category at its entry size for everybody - eight 3ml attars at ₹379 to ₹399 is a coherent, complete gift that happens to be affordable, and nobody on the receiving end is doing arithmetic.
The SOSA gifting range
There are only three questions worth asking before you spend anything. Will the gift be worn on a person, in which case it is a taste decision and you need to know what they already wear? Will it live in a room, in which case it is a placement decision and a reed diffuser or a duo set is the safer buy? Or will it live in a car, where the choice is really between the mild hanging format and the stronger spray, and where SOSA Safar is the upgrade for somebody who genuinely spends hours driving? Answer that, then pick the price band.
| Gift | What it is | Who it suits | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| SOSA attars | Alcohol-free roll-on oil | Adaa, Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml - the smallest serious fragrance gift there is | from ₹379 |
| SOSA Attar Trio | Pack of three attars | Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani in one box - three characters instead of one guess | from ₹1,055 |
| SOSA reed diffusers | Passive home fragrance | Five scents in 50ml and 130ml, nothing to plug in or switch off, about 6 to 10 weeks | from ₹749 |
| SOSA reed duo sets | Two reeds in one box | Day & Night, Fresh & Grounded and Warmth & Bloom - the readymade home gift | from ₹1,498 |
| SOSA car fragrance | Hanging or spray | Nine scents, each in a mild hanging format and a stronger spray at the same price | from ₹449 |
| SOSA Safar | Waterless car and travel diffuser | Cordless and rechargeable cold diffusion, for the person who actually lives in their car | ₹3,999 |
| SOSA Vaayu | Waterless cold-air machine | Approx 1000 m3 of connected air with a Bluetooth app and timer - a large home or a business | ₹11,999 |
Three different fluids run through this range and none of them is interchangeable. Reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil. The SOSA ultrasonics - Boond ₹899, Sukoon ₹1,899 and Megh ₹3,499 - run the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299. Vaayu and Safar run waterless nebulising oil, so the ₹299 water-based bottle never goes into either of them. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
- Attars - Adaa ₹379 / ₹669 / ₹1,149, Ameeri ₹385 / ₹679 / ₹1,165, Mastani ₹389 / ₹685 / ₹1,179 and Nawaab ₹399 / ₹699 / ₹1,199 in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml. The Attar Trio is ₹1,055, ₹1,859 or ₹3,189.
- Reed diffusers - Morning Freshness ₹749, Garden Bloom and Evening Calm ₹799, Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew ₹849 in 50ml; 130ml from ₹1,249. They last about 6 to 10 weeks. Duo sets from ₹1,498.
- Car fragrance - nine scents from ₹449 to ₹549, each in a mild hanging format and a stronger spray at the same price, with 50ml sprays at ₹1,499 and saver combos at ₹899 to ₹949. Safar is ₹3,999, or ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios.
- Not published, and therefore never stated here: how long any fragrance will be liked, delivery or dispatch timing, any festive discount, any minimum order quantity or bulk rate, and any claim about what a person will feel on receiving a gift. Those questions go to WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
Versailles
Every year around Dhanteras I get the same message, phrased twenty different ways: I have to buy something, I do not want to buy gold again, and I do not want to hand over a box of dry fruit that everybody quietly passes on. That is a real problem and it is worth taking seriously, because the difficulty is not the budget. It is that most festive gifts are bought for the moment of handing over and then have nowhere to go.
Fragrance is unusually good at this for one unglamorous reason: it gets used up. A reed diffuser sits on a console and does something for six to ten weeks. An attar lives in a handbag and gets worn on ordinary Tuesdays. A car perfume is noticed every single morning by somebody who did not ask for it. None of that is sentiment - it is just a product that has a job, unlike an object that has to earn shelf space for a decade.
Two honest cautions, though, because I would rather you bought well than bought more. A worn fragrance is a taste decision - if you do not know what the person already wears, a perfume is a guess, and a scent for their home or their car is the safer buy. And do not spend up a tier to look generous. A ₹379 attar chosen because it suits somebody is a better gift than a ₹3,999 machine bought for a person whose car is spotless and who never noticed a smell in it. Buy the thing that fits the life, not the thing that fits the occasion.
