Founder Diaries · Thinking-of-You & Cheer-Up Fragrance Gifting
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 9 min read Updated September 2026
Most people land here with the same hesitation: nothing has happened. There is no birthday, nothing has gone wrong that you know of, and a parcel with no occasion attached feels like it needs a reason. It does not - but it does need to be the right size for how close the two of you actually are, because that, rather than any crisis, is what decides whether a thinking-of-you gift lands as warm or as strange.
SOSA Adaa attar, bergamot and jasmine sambac, 3ml from Rs 379
SOSA Adaa attar · bergamot, green cardamom, jasmine sambac ₹379 →
The most specific small thing in the range, which is why it leads a page about people rather than occasions. SOSA Adaa, ₹379 in 3ml - bergamot, green cardamom and jasmine sambac with white musk, alcohol-free and rolled on rather than sprayed. Send it only to somebody whose scent you could already describe; for everybody else, the ₹399 candle is the safer object.
Quick answers — read this first
What is a good thinking-of-you gift? Something small enough that the message stays louder than the object. A 3ml attar from ₹379, a candle at ₹399, or a 50ml reed diffuser at ₹749 if you are buying for a home rather than a person.

Does a thinking-of-you gift have to be for a hard time? No, and treating it that way is the commonest mistake. Most of these are sent on an ordinary Tuesday to somebody you have not seen in three months. The gift is not a response to anything - it is the sentence you crossed my mind with an object attached so it does not read as an odd message out of nowhere.

How much should I spend if nothing has happened? Less than for an occasion, because there is no occasion carrying it. ₹379 to ₹699 covers most of these. A parcel that costs more than the relationship has context for makes somebody wonder what it is about, and then you have handed them a puzzle instead of a nice moment.
The short answer
Short answer: Keep it small enough that the note stays the loudest part: a 3ml attar from Rs 379, a candle at Rs 399, or a 50ml reed diffuser at Rs 749 for a home. Then say the thing yourself, separately - SOSA encloses no printed card, so the words are yours to send.
The pick: A 3ml SOSA Adaa attar at ₹379 for somebody close, or a candle at ₹399 for everybody else.
Why: It is the smallest thing in the range that still reads as picked on purpose, which means the object stays quieter than whatever you wanted to say.
Sending something when somebody is having a hard time - at a glanceKeep it small - candle ₹399, attar ₹379, car scent ₹449For their home - reed diffuser ₹749, nothing to switch onSay the words yourself - no card goes in the parcelNever - a parcel instead of turning up
A gift cannot change how somebody's week went, and a page that suggests otherwise is not worth reading. What a small parcel does is tell a person you were thinking about them on a day when nothing made you - which is a real thing to say, and worth saying. Keep it small, because a large one asks somebody already short of energy to produce a reaction, and send the words separately, because the object cannot carry them.
Straight answer
What is a good thinking-of-you gift when there is no occasion?
Something small and specific, sized to the relationship. For somebody close - a sibling, an old friend, a partner - a 3ml attar at ₹379 reads as chosen, because a worn scent is a taste decision and choosing one is a small act of paying attention. For a friend you like but do not see often, a candle at ₹399 is the safest object in the range: it needs no knowledge of their taste and it is used up rather than kept. For a colleague or anybody at arm's length, the same ₹399 candle is still the answer and anything above it is too much. A 50ml reed diffuser at ₹749 is for a home - a new flat, a friend who has just moved - because a room has no opinion and a person does. The object is the carrier and the words are the gift. SOSA encloses no printed card and has no note service, so send the sentence yourself by message or by phone, and keep the parcel quiet enough that the sentence is still the loudest part. If somebody is having a genuinely hard time rather than an ordinary week, a parcel sits alongside ringing them and turning up and never in place of it, and where things are more than that the person who helps may need to be a professional. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
There is no occasion here and the page is not going to invent one. You thought about somebody and you want them to know. That is a complete reason, and it does not need a parcel big enough to justify itself.
The usual answer at any distance: a 3ml attar at ₹379 if you know what they wear, a candle at ₹399 if you do not.
SOSA attars from ₹379

Sort by how close you are, not by how bad things are

Gift lists for this sort by product or by budget. Neither is the real variable. The thing that decides whether an unprompted parcel reads as warm or as odd is the distance between you and the person, so sort by that first and let the product fall out of it.

1
The first variable
How close the two of you actually are
Three rings, and each one has a ceiling. The inner ring - a sibling, a parent, an oldest friend, a partner - can take anything in the ₹379 to ₹1,000 band without a raised eyebrow, and it is the only ring where a worn fragrance is safe, because you have to be close to somebody to guess at what they put on their skin. The middle ring is the friend you like enormously and see twice a year, and ₹399 to ₹699 is exactly right: a candle, or a candle duo if it has been a long time.

The outer ring is a colleague, a friend of a friend, somebody you got on with on a work trip. A ₹399 candle is the ceiling there, not the floor, and going above it does not read as generous - it reads as a question the person now has to answer. If you are unsure which ring somebody is in, that uncertainty is itself the answer: send the smaller thing.
Tip: Unsure which ring they are in? That uncertainty is the answer. Send the smaller one.
2
The second variable
Whether anything is actually wrong
Half the people sending these are not responding to anything at all. It is a Tuesday, somebody came to mind, and they would like that person to know. The other half have heard that a friend is having a rough time and are looking for something to do about it. The useful news is that the object barely changes between the two - it is small either way - but the framing changes completely, and getting it wrong in either direction is uncomfortable.

If nothing is wrong, do not write as though something is. A parcel that arrives with a heavy note attached makes somebody go back through their own week looking for what you heard. And if something is wrong, do not pretend it is not: name it plainly in your message rather than writing around it, and keep the object out of the way of the sentence. In neither case does the scent do anything to the situation. It is a scent, and the page will not tell you otherwise.
3
The third variable
Keeping the object quieter than the message
This is the mechanism the whole page turns on. A thinking-of-you gift is a sentence with an object attached, and the object is there so the sentence has something to arrive with. The moment the object gets big enough to be the event, the sentence disappears behind it - somebody is now reacting to a parcel rather than to the fact that you thought about them, which is the opposite of what you were trying to do.

So the practical rule is: pick the object, then check that it is still quieter than what you want to say. SOSA encloses no printed card and has no note-with-the-order service, so you are sending that message separately anyway - by text, voice note or phone. Write it first. If the message is one line and the parcel is ₹1,500, the proportions are wrong and it is the parcel that should move, not the note. And if you find you cannot write the line at all, that is the part worth working on, not the budget.
Tip: Write the message first. If the parcel outweighs it, shrink the parcel.
SOSA Cozy Corner scented candle, Rs 399
The smallest thing that still reads as a gift
A candle at ₹399 asks nothing of the person receiving it
Hand-poured in small batches. Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Misty Mornings and Evening Walks are ₹399 each at about 15 to 18 hours of burn time, and ₹699 for a two-candle duo at about 30 to 36 hours. The Woodenwick candles in jasmine, sandalwood and vanilla are ₹999. A candle is a scent and an object to light - it is not a treatment and it will not change how a week went.
See the SOSA candles →
Work it out in this order
How to send one of these well
  1. Place the person: inner ring, middle ring or outer ring. Set the ceiling.
  2. Outer ring tops out at Rs 399. Middle ring at Rs 699. Inner ring at Rs 1,000.
  3. Only send a worn attar if you can name something they already wear.
  4. Write the message first, send it yourself, and ask nothing back.
The SOSA principle
A thinking-of-you gift is a sentence with an object attached. The object exists so the sentence has something to arrive with - and the moment it gets big enough to be the event, the sentence is gone.
Which is why the useful band here is narrower than for any occasion gift, not wider.

What to send at each distance, and in what size

By distance, then. For the inner ring, the 3ml attars are the most specific thing SOSA makes: Adaa ₹379 is bergamot, green cardamom and jasmine sambac with white musk; Ameeri ₹385 is Taif rose, Indian sandalwood and Persian saffron; Mastani ₹389 is night-blooming jasmine with damask rose and oudh; Nawaab ₹399 is white royal oud with Mysore sandalwood and Kashmir saffron. They are alcohol-free oil, rolled on rather than sprayed. For the middle and outer rings, the candles at ₹399 - Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Misty Mornings and Evening Walks, about 15 to 18 hours, hand-poured in micro batches - ask nothing of you in the way of knowledge and nothing of them beyond a match. For a home rather than a person, a 50ml reed diffuser from ₹749 runs about 6 to 10 weeks. And for somebody who drives, car fragrance from ₹449 lands in the one room of their life nobody else buys for.

The SOSA gift edit
Four distances, and what fits at each one
The option Who it suits, and where it fails
Inner ring · a 3ml attar, ₹379 to ₹399 A sibling, a parent, an oldest friend, a partner. This is the only ring where a worn fragrance works, because guessing at what somebody puts on their skin requires that you already know. Right when you can finish he usually wears something with.... It fails the moment you are guessing - a wrong attar is worn once, politely, and then not again.
Middle ring · a candle, ₹399 to ₹699 The friend you like enormously and see twice a year. A single candle at about 15 to 18 hours, or the two-candle duo at ₹699 for about 30 to 36 hours if it has been a very long time. It fails if they do not light candles at home, and it fails upwards: anything past ₹699 in this ring starts to feel like it is about something.
Outer ring · a candle, ₹399 A colleague, a friend of a friend, somebody you liked on a work trip. ₹399 is the ceiling here rather than the starting point, and a candle is the only object neutral enough to send. It fails when it goes up a size - at arm's length, a larger parcel is not generosity, it is a question the recipient now has to work out how to answer.
A home rather than a person · a reed diffuser, ₹749 Somebody who has just moved, or whose flat you have never stood in. 50ml runs about 6 to 10 weeks and asks for nothing at all - no flame, no socket, nothing remembered. A room has no opinion and a person does, which makes this the safe route when you cannot guess a taste. It fails on register for the outer ring, where ₹749 is too much weight for the distance.
SOSA Morning Freshness reed diffuser, Malabar lemon and mint, Rs 749
The gift that asks for nothing at all
A reed diffuser needs no flame, no socket and nothing remembered
Five scents in 50ml from ₹749 and 130ml from ₹1,249, running about 6 to 10 weeks. Morning Freshness is Malabar lemon and mint, Garden Bloom is British rose and night jasmine, Mountain Breeze is pine, sage and cedar, Fresh Brew is Coorg coffee and vanilla. Evening Calm is lavender and chamomile - that is the name on the bottle and a description of what it smells of, not a claim about what it does.
See the reed diffusers →

Three sizing notes. The 3ml, not the 12ml - the 6ml at ₹669 to ₹699 and the 12ml at ₹1,149 to ₹1,199 are for somebody who already knows they like the scent, and a thinking-of-you gift is by definition a first guess. The 50ml reed, not the 130ml, which at ₹1,249 and up is a housewarming rather than a hello. And the Attar Trio at ₹1,055 is the sensible exception to all of this in exactly one case: when you want to send a worn fragrance to somebody in the inner ring and you genuinely cannot name what they wear, three small bottles let them find out rather than putting you on the hook for a guess. Everything else on this page argues for less. Send the small thing, and send the sentence yourself - it is the part no parcel carries.

SOSA Bookshop scented candle, hand-poured, Rs 399
Hand-poured in small batches, about 15 to 18 hours of burn time, or about 30 to 36 hours in the two-candle duo. The smallest gift here that still looks like a gift.
₹399 · duo ₹699
SOSA Adaa attar, bergamot and jasmine sambac, from Rs 379
Alcohol-free oil rolled onto the pulse points rather than sprayed. Adaa, Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml - and the 3ml is the right one here.
from ₹379 · 3ml
SOSA Morning Freshness reed diffuser, Malabar lemon and mint, Rs 749
Malabar lemon and mint, 50ml, about 6 to 10 weeks. Nothing to plug in, switch off or remember - which matters when somebody has nothing spare to give a new object.
₹749 · 50ml
When the gift is meant to be the big one
SOSA Safar ₹3,999 for the car, SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 for the whole home
Safar is the waterless, cordless, rechargeable cold-diffusion perfume diffuser for a car or a travel bag - ₹3,999 for the SOSA-scent trios and ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios. Vaayu is the machine version of the same idea for a building: waterless cold-air nebulising of undiluted oil, rated for approximately 1000 m3 of connected air, with a Bluetooth app and timer, a 400ml tank, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, DC 12V / 1A 5W mains power and CE, RoHS and SGS marks. Both run waterless nebuliser oil - 100 gm ₹1,049, 300 gm ₹1,849 - and neither takes the ₹299 water-based Hotel Collection bottle. A rating assumes one connected body of air, so a Vaayu suits a large open home or a business and is the wrong gift for a two-bedroom flat with every door closed. It adds a scent to a space; it does not remove one.

Nothing has to have happened. Somebody crossed your mind in the middle of an ordinary week and you would like them to know it - that is a complete reason to send something, and it does not need a parcel large enough to justify itself.

The SOSA gifting range

Two questions settle almost every one of these, and neither is about price. First: how much energy does this ask of them? A candle is lit and that is the whole interaction; a reed diffuser asks nothing at all; a machine asks to be filled, plugged in and remembered, which is the wrong thing to hand somebody who is already running on empty. Second: can you name something they already like? If yes, an attar is accurate. If no, buy for the room instead, because a room has no opinion and a person does. Then keep the number low - on a hard week the size of a gift is a demand, not a kindness.

The SOSA gifting range
Pick by how small it can be while still being specific - in that order

SOSA reed duo sets Two reeds in one box Day & Night, Fresh & Grounded and Warmth & Bloom - the larger home gift, for a real occasion from ₹1,498

Three different fluids run through this range and none of them is interchangeable. Reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil. The SOSA ultrasonics - Boond ₹899, Sukoon ₹1,899 and Megh ₹5,999 - run the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299. Vaayu and Safar run waterless nebulising oil, so the ₹299 water-based bottle never goes into either of them. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

The messages that stay with me are not the festive ones. They are the ones that start my friend is having an awful time and I do not know what to do. People write that at eleven at night, and what they are really asking is whether there is an object that will help. I have been doing this long enough to answer it honestly: there is not. A fragrance is a scent. It will not fix a week, it will not undo a rejection, and anybody selling it to you as comfort is selling you something else.

What a small parcel does do is carry one piece of information, and it is not a small one: I was thinking about you on a day when nothing made me. No birthday, no festival, nothing on a calendar. Somebody stopped in the middle of their own week and thought about yours. That is worth sending, and it is the entire reason this category exists.

So the practical advice runs the other way from what people expect. Go smaller. A large gift arrives at somebody who is already short of energy and asks them to produce a reaction - gratitude, surprise, a phone call they have to be bright on. A ₹399 candle or a ₹379 attar asks for none of that. And send the words yourself, separately: we put no printed card in the parcel, and even if we did, a sentence from you naming the actual thing they are dealing with does more than anything we could print. If you are choosing between the bigger gift and making the call, make the call. The gift goes alongside that, never instead of it.

Frequently asked questions

What should I send someone just to say I am thinking of them?
A 3ml attar from Rs 379 if they are close enough that you can name something they wear, or a candle at Rs 399 if not. A 50ml reed diffuser at Rs 749 if you are buying for a home rather than a person. Keep it small enough that the message you send separately is still the loudest part of it.
Is it strange to send a gift for no reason?
No, but the size decides how it reads. A Rs 399 candle arriving on an ordinary Tuesday is a nice hour in somebody's week. A large parcel arriving on the same Tuesday makes the person wonder what it is about and what they are expected to do in return, which is a puzzle rather than a gift.
How do I choose for a colleague rather than a close friend?
Treat Rs 399 as the ceiling and send a candle. Worn fragrance is too close to the skin for a work relationship and a reed diffuser at Rs 749 puts more weight on the exchange than the distance supports. At arm's length, small is not stingy - it is the thing that keeps the gesture easy to receive.
Does SOSA put a note in the parcel?
No. SOSA encloses no printed card and has no note-with-the-order service, so the message is yours to send separately by text, voice note or phone. That is genuinely better anyway: a line in your own words naming why they came to mind does more than anything that could be printed and slipped into a box.
What if the person is going through something hard?
Keep the object the same size and change the message, not the budget. Name the actual thing plainly rather than writing around it, and ask nothing back. A parcel belongs alongside ringing them and going to see them, never instead of it, and where somebody is dealing with more than a hard stretch the person who helps may need to be a professional.

No claim is made about how any recipient will feel about a gift. No claim is made anywhere on this page about mood, stress, calm, sleep, comfort or wellbeing: fragrance is a scent, not a treatment, and where a product name contains a word such as Calm that is a name and not an effect. Where this guide covers sending something to a person having a difficult time, it treats a gift as a gesture of attention alongside real support and never as a substitute for a person or for professional help, and it gives no mental-health advice. No delivery date, dispatch time, order cut-off, discount or minimum order quantity is stated anywhere on this page; corporate and bulk enquiries are answered on WhatsApp. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand; the SOSA perfumes are SOSA's own compositions and are not the designer fragrances they are described as being inspired by. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
