Why does that change the answer? Because a machine's advantage is holding one connected volume at one strength. A house of separate rooms gives each bottle a correctly sized job instead.
When is the machine still right? When the living, dining and hall genuinely run together as one volume of roughly 2,000 sq ft or more.
Large here usually means spread out, not tall or dense
Two houses of exactly the same area can want completely different products, and the variable is not size but connectedness. Consider a twenty-six hundred square foot home in two forms. In the first, the living, dining and kitchen run together into one space with the hallway opening into it, a staircase in the middle and a double-height section over the sitting area. That is one volume of roughly seven hundred cubic metres, and a single reed diffuser standing in a corner of it produces a scented pocket and a great deal of unscented air - which is the exact complaint people in open-plan homes have. It is the textbook case for a machine, because only a machine holds a connected volume at one even strength. In the second form, the same twenty-six hundred square feet is a bungalow: a formal sitting room at the front, a family room behind it, a separate dining room, a kitchen that closes, four bedrooms off a passage, a study, and a courtyard or a rear veranda. That house has eight bounded rooms, and every one of them is the size a reed diffuser is designed for. Four or five well-placed bottles will give a better result there than one machine, and they will cost less than half as much. Houses here tend to be the second kind more often than the first, because land has historically allowed a bigger footprint and because families building their own house generally want rooms - a formal space for visitors, a private family space, a puja room, a separate dining table, bedrooms that shut. So the honest recommendation for a large home in this city is more often bottles than it is in a metro, and that is not a downgrade. It is what the architecture asks for. The practical test takes one look. Stand at the front door and ask how far you can see and how much of what you can see is one continuous space. If the answer is that the hall opens into a living area which opens into a dining area with no doors, you have a connected volume and should measure it. If the answer is a hall with doors off it, you have rooms and should count them. The second question is whether there is any single airflow connecting the house: ducted cooling, a stairwell in the middle, or nothing but ceiling fans and open windows. A machine releases a dry mist and relies on air the building is already moving; with no ducts and no stack, ceiling fans on low are the distribution system and a spread-out plan distributes less readily than a compact one of the same area. Where bottles are the answer, here is how to make them a proper gift rather than a token. Buy one per zone that matters rather than one for the house: the entrance, the family room, the main bedroom, a study or dining room, and a second bedroom if it is in use. Morning Freshness at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees for fifty millilitres and one thousand two hundred and forty-nine for one hundred and thirty is Malabar lemon with peppermint and eucalyptus, which reads clean and is the right choice for the entrance and anywhere near a kitchen. Mountain Breeze at eight hundred and forty-nine and one thousand three hundred and forty-nine is Himalayan pine, sage and cedar, dry and resinous, which sits naturally with teak and rosewood and does not compete with the jasmine coming in from a garden. Fresh Brew at eight hundred and forty-nine and one thousand three hundred and forty-nine is Coorg coffee with Kerala vanilla for a study or dining room. Evening Calm at seven hundred and ninety-nine and one thousand two hundred and ninety-nine is lavender with chamomile for a bedroom, and Garden Bloom at the same is British rose with night-blooming jasmine, best used in an interior room rather than one opening onto the garden. Four of the larger bottles is about five thousand rupees and covers a large bungalow properly; a duo set at one thousand four hundred and ninety-eight to two thousand five hundred and ninety-eight rupees is the neatest single present; and a three hundred millilitre refill at two thousand three hundred and ninety-nine rupees or five hundred at three thousand four hundred and ninety-nine keeps the arrangement going and makes an excellent second gift later. One placement rule matters more here than anywhere: these houses are lived in with the windows open, so a bottle near a window or in a cross-draught will smell strong at the sticks and of nothing two metres away, and will empty sooner. Put bottles in the calm interior of each room, away from windows, doors and fan airflow. Where the connected volume genuinely is two thousand square feet or more, the machine is the right gift and the case is the usual one. The SOSA Vaayu at eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees is a waterless cold-air nebuliser covering up to a thousand cubic metres or about two thousand to three thousand square feet, producing one even field rather than pockets and reaching the entrance, hallway, stairwell and landing where no bottle can stand. No water, no heat, no dampness, no oily film. Four hundred millilitre tank lasting up to around seventy-five days a fill. One, four, eight and twenty-four hour windows with day selection and adjustable intensity from a Bluetooth app or its onboard buttons. Under thirty-eight decibels, five watts, nine hundred grams, freestanding or wall and HVAC mountable, auto-stop and key lock, CE, RoHS and SGS, made in India, four one hundred millilitre hotel-inspired oils included, and refills of waterless nebuliser oil from one thousand and forty-nine rupees - never the water-based Hotel Collection at two hundred and ninety-nine rupees, which is a separate system. Schedule it for the closed evening hours in a house lived in open, place it in the central circulation near a fan, and start intensity low. Two closing notes. Bedrooms behind closed doors sit outside a machine's field either way, so bottles belong there regardless. And a courtyard, veranda or garden cannot be scented at all, since outdoor air is unbounded; a candle from six hundred and ninety-nine rupees works within a metre or so of where people sit, sheltered and never unattended. Where a smell has a cause, fragrance is a finishing touch and never a fix.
And spread-out largeness is more often a bottles answer than a machine one

Versailles
The Vaayu is the most expensive thing we make and we turn down more orders for it than for anything else in the range. Not because we do not want to sell it - because most homes do not need it. It covers up to a thousand cubic metres, roughly two to three thousand square feet, and that is a villa, a penthouse, a large open-plan flat or a house with a double-height room. An ordinary 2BHK is not that, and in an ordinary 2BHK a reed diffuser at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees does the job better than eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees of machine would. So the question we ask is never what somebody spent on their house. It is how many cubic metres of air are in it.
The second thing we say, and almost nobody expects it, is wait a few weeks. A brand-new home smells of paint, varnish, polish, cement and new wood, and those are not smells to cover - they need open windows and time, and they go on their own. Give the machine at the housewarming by all means, but tell them the scenting starts once the building has finished smelling of being built. It is the same rule we apply to a new car, for the same reason: adding fragrance to a smell that is fading anyway is how a good product gets blamed for a bad result.
Two honest limits. Reed diffusers do not fail in large homes, they simply do not reach - a diffuser on a console table scents the area around that console table, which is not a fault, it is physics, and several of them is a real alternative to one machine. And there are two machines above the Vaayu, the Angaan and the Meenar, which are HVAC units for showrooms and hotel floors rather than houses - so if a home is genuinely far beyond three thousand square feet, message us rather than assuming more money solves it.
