The rule: buy per place you stop moving. Sitting rooms and bedrooms, yes. Corridors, kitchens, bathrooms and a spare room used twice a year, no.
Prefer two sources to one big bottle. Output per bottle is fixed, so two 50ml at opposite ends of a flat cover more than one 130ml in the middle. Size buys duration, never reach.
Where a bottle is overkill: a small bathroom wants two reeds, not six, and a guest bathroom is better served by a jar candle from ₹379 lit when guests come.
2. The unit of purchase is a place you stop moving, not a room. A reed diffuser is constant and deliberately low; you notice it by being in its air for a while. Ten minutes on a sofa registers. Four seconds crossing a corridor does not.
3. Doors divide air, but yours are mostly open. Each door you actually shut makes a separate air space. In most NCR 2BHKs the entry, the passage and the living-dining are one connected volume during the day, so they share a bottle rather than needing three.
4. Two sources beat one big bottle. Output per bottle is fixed at six reeds, so the only way to raise a flat's total is another bottle. Two 50ml at opposite ends cover more than one 130ml in the middle — and a 130ml is a duration purchase, 14–18 weeks against 6–8, not a reach purchase.
5. The second bedroom is the commonest waste. If it is used a few nights a year, a bottle in it is running unattended for months. Keep a 50ml boxed and put it in the day before guests arrive, or light a ₹379 candle while they are there.
6. Kitchens and bathrooms want less, not more. A small bathroom with a working exhaust needs two reeds rather than six — the extractor pulls air out and six reeds is simply expensive. In a kitchen, never diffuse over live cooking: run the chimney, let the room settle for half an hour, and keep the bottle well away from the hob.
7. What two bottles cost. ₹1,498 as a duo for 2 × 50ml, or ₹1,249 + ₹799 = ₹2,048 if you want the larger bottle in the room you use most.

Part one — the rule: where you stop moving
Square footage is the wrong unit and rooms are only slightly better. The right unit is a place where you are stationary long enough to notice a low, constant fragrance. Once you count those, a 900 sq ft flat gets a great deal smaller.
Morning Freshness₹1,249 · 130mlFragrance moves with air, and a shut door stops air. So the honest way to count a flat is by closed air spaces rather than by floor plan. In a typical 900 sq ft 2BHK the entry, the passage and the living-dining are one volume for most of the day, because those doors are never shut — which is why one well-placed bottle serves all three and a second one in the passage would mostly be scenting the first one's air. The bedrooms are different: their doors close at night and often during the day, so each is genuinely its own space. Two shut doors plus one open zone is three, and the spare bedroom drops out for a different reason, which is that nobody is in it. That leaves two.Part two — your 900 sq ft, room by room
A working 2BHK layout, judged on the only question that matters: do you stop moving there? The verdict column is deliberately blunt.
| Space | Roughly | Do you stop moving there | Verdict | What goes there |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Living-dining ★ | 250–320 sq ft | Yes — hours a day | Buy for this room first | 130ml, six reeds, near a doorway |
| Master bedroom | 130–160 sq ft | Yes — every night, door shut | The second bottle, and the only second bottle | 50ml, four to six reeds, away from the AC's throw |
| Second bedroom | 100–130 sq ft | Rarely — guests, storage, a desk | No permanent bottle | A 50ml kept boxed, placed the day before guests arrive |
| Kitchen | 50–80 sq ft | You stand, you do not settle | No. And never over live cooking | The chimney, run early and long. A bottle only well away from the hob |
| Two bathrooms | 30–45 sq ft each | Minutes at a time | Not a full bottle | Two reeds in one 50ml, out of the exhaust's pull |
| Entry and passage | 60–90 sq ft | Seconds | Shares the living-dining's air | Nothing of its own. Position the living-room bottle near the doorway instead |
| Utility balcony | 30–50 sq ft | No, and air leaves constantly | No — this is the worst value in the flat | Extraction and dry laundry. Fragrance is wasted where air escapes |
| The honest caveat: this table assumes an ordinary NCR layout with the bedroom doors shut and the rest open. If your living-dining is one continuous open volume beyond roughly 250–300 sq ft and you want it filled rather than pleasantly scented, you are at the ceiling of what any reed diffuser does, and the answer is a Sukoon at ₹1,899 covering 270–320 sq ft on demand — not a third bottle. Reeds also add no water to the air, while every ultrasonic does, which some people will weigh differently. | ||||

Part three — when a third bottle is the wrong purchase
There is a point where adding bottles stops being the answer, and it is worth naming rather than selling past. Past roughly 250–300 sq ft of connected open volume, a reed diffuser is being asked to do something it was not designed for. If your living-dining runs into an open kitchen and a passage with nothing shutting between them, and you want that whole space filled rather than agreeably scented near where you sit, a third bottle will not deliver it — you will simply have three quiet sources instead of two. The honest recommendation at that point is a Sukoon at ₹1,899: 500ml, 270–320 sq ft, 16–18 hours on low, remote and steady, 2H and 4H timers, three 15ml Hotel Collection fragrances in the box. It delivers fragrance by aerosolising water, so it adds moisture where a reed bottle adds none.
I want to be careful about what that machine is for, though, because the trigger is control rather than strength. If you want the flat scented while you are out at work, reeds are already correct and a machine is the wrong purchase — it needs to be switched on. If you want a room filled at eight in the evening when people arrive and off by eleven, that is a machine. Most homes I know end up running both formats for exactly that reason, and that is a considered setup rather than a contradiction. What is never right is the Megh at ₹3,499 bought as a step up: six litres and roughly 100 hours are real, but it covers about 215 sq ft, less than a Sukoon. A runtime and humidity machine, never a coverage upgrade. And the Boond at ₹899 is ~150 sq ft on a 300ml tank, about six hours a fill — one small room only.
The other place I would talk you out of a bottle is the guest bathroom and the spare bedroom, because both are rooms with an audience rather than an occupant. A bottle in a room used four times a year spends fifty weeks scenting nobody, and it runs whether anyone is home or not. A jar candle from ₹379 is the better tool there — it exists only while lit, needs your attention and a safe surface, and costs a fifth of a bottle. Keep a spare 50ml boxed for the guest room and put it out the day before people come. In a small bathroom with a working exhaust, two reeds rather than six: the fan pulls air out continuously, so six reeds is money leaving through a duct.
Part four — six answers, costed
Six ways to spend on a 900 sq ft 2BHK, with the arithmetic shown. The last row is the one I would refuse to sell.
| Where you are | What to buy | The arithmetic | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| The default answer ★ | Day & Night duo, 2 × 50ml, one per stationary room | ₹1,498 | Living-dining and master bedroom, 6–8 weeks each |
| The smallest sensible start | One 50ml, six reeds, in the living-dining only | ₹749 | The room you sit in. The bedroom waits for next time |
| You would rather reorder less often | 130ml in the living-dining, 50ml in the bedroom | ₹1,249 + ₹799 = ₹2,048 | Same two rooms; the busy one runs 14–18 weeks |
| Both rooms on the long cycle | Two 130ml — Morning Freshness and Evening Calm | ₹1,249 + ₹1,299 = ₹2,548 | Two rooms for 14–18 weeks. No extra reach for the money |
| Open-plan living-dining you want filled on demand | Reeds in the bedrooms, a Sukoon for the open zone | ₹1,498 + ₹1,899 = ₹3,397 | 270–320 sq ft when switched on, and it adds moisture by design |
| A bottle in every room, as originally planned | Do not. Five bottles is real money for four rooms nobody sits in | ₹749 + ₹799 + ₹799 + ₹849 + ₹849 = ₹4,045 | Worse than ₹2,048 spent properly, and a seam wherever two scents meet |
Versailles
The easiest way to increase an order is to let the customer count rooms. Seven rooms, seven bottles, and nobody has technically been misled. I have watched that arithmetic happen and it produces homes that smell confused rather than considered — three or four compositions meeting in corridors, none of them chosen to sit beside the others.
A flat is not a set of rooms for this purpose. It is a set of places where a person is still. Those are the ones worth scenting, and there are usually two of them, occasionally three if someone works from home in a room with a door.
The related discipline is not stretching a bottle past what it does. Six reeds gives a fixed output; a bigger reservoir gives more weeks, not more metres. When a space genuinely exceeds what that output covers, the right answer is either another source or a different format, and I would rather name the ceiling than sell a third bottle into a room that needed a machine. Made in small batches in Pune, and a part of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.

A reed diffuser adds fragrance to a room. It does not clean, purify or filter air, remove or neutralise cooking, damp or smoke smells, reduce humidity, or change how anyone feels. A reed diffuser adds no moisture to the air; ultrasonic machines work by aerosolising water and therefore do. A persistent musty smell indicates moisture that needs finding and drying, and SOSA sells no dehumidifier or air purifier. Ventilate or extract first; add fragrance second. Evaporation rate rises with warmth and falls with humidity, and airflow carries scent away from the bottle — so performance varies with season, ventilation, ceiling height and room use; longevity figures are typical ranges, not guarantees. Not noticing a constant fragrance is ordinary olfactory adaptation; the reliable checks are leaving the room and returning, or asking someone who has just arrived. Strength figures are positions on SOSA’s own internal scale, not an industry standard. Fragrance oil is flammable — keep bottles away from open flame and out of direct sunlight, and out of reach of children and pets.
