It is worth separating the two words before spending anything, because almost every disappointment in home fragrance comes from confusing them. Strength is a question about the source: how much fragrance is leaving the bottle per hour. Evenness is a question about the air: how thoroughly what has left the bottle is mixed through the room. There is a difference between a fragrance being good and a fragrance reaching you, and almost nobody is told what it is. When someone writes to me and says the reed diffuser smells wonderful up close but they cannot smell it from the bed, my first answer is always the same: nothing is wrong, and you did not buy the wrong thing. A reed diffuser is a passive object. It holds oil, the reeds draw it up, the room's warmth and air take it away at their own pace. It has no way of carrying scent to you, and it was never built to.
So the real question is not which fragrance is stronger. It is which job you want done. If I move the reed diffuser to the middle of the room, will the scent spread more evenly?
It moves the strong spot to the middle of the room, which is usually the least useful place to put it. The gradient travels with the bottle: wherever it stands becomes the peak, and everything falls away from there. Putting it in the centre of a coffee table means the strongest fragrance in the room is now over a table nobody sits at, and the sofa, the bed and the doorway are all still on the thin part of the curve. The better use of placement is the opposite instinct: put the bottle where you actually are, at roughly seated nose height, out of the fan's direct path and away from a window or balcony door where air is leaving. That genuinely improves what you smell, because you have moved yourself into the strong part of the system. It does not make the room even, because nothing about placement adds mixing energy.
Would adding more reeds make the coverage more even?
No, and this is the most common way people spend money without getting what they wanted. More reeds increase the surface area that oil evaporates from, so the release rate goes up. That makes the air near the bottle stronger and it makes the bottle empty sooner, typically well inside the usual six to ten weeks. What it does not do is add one bit of carrying force, so the shape of the distribution is unchanged: you get a taller peak in the same place and the same thin air at the door. If you picture the gradient as a hill, extra reeds make the hill steeper, not flatter, which is the opposite of what even coverage means. If the corner is what you want and it is currently too quiet, extra reeds are a fair answer. If the room is what you want, they are the wrong variable and the money is better put toward a Boond at Rs 899 with a Hotel Collection bottle at Rs 299.
Will running the ceiling fan spread it around the room evenly?
A fan does mix the air, which is why the idea is so appealing, but with a passive source it usually makes things worse rather than better. The reed is releasing a small amount of fragrance into a small pocket of air. The fan takes that pocket and dilutes it through the whole room in seconds, so instead of one area that smells lovely you get an entire room that smells of almost nothing. It also increases evaporation from the reeds, so the bottle empties faster while you notice it less. The reason a fan helps an active diffuser and hurts a reed is simply the release rate: a machine is putting out enough fragrance per minute for the mixed result to still be above the level your nose registers, and a reed is not. Mixing only helps when there is enough to mix.
Do I have to run an ultrasonic all day to keep a room even?
No, and you should not want to. Most people get the best result running a machine in cycles rather than continuously, and both our smaller ultrasonics are usually run this way: on for a while to bring the room up, off while the scent sits in the air, then on again. Your nose adapts to a constant smell within minutes, so continuous running mostly means you stop noticing it while the room stays scented for everyone who walks in. Intermittent running also uses less fragrance and adds less humidity to the room, which matters in a wet coastal city more than in a dry one. Start on the lowest setting you have, run it for half an hour before you want the room to be at its best, and ask someone arriving from outside what they think, because they are the only reliable judge in your household.
Is the SOSA Safar the right answer if I want even coverage?
Honestly, no, and we would rather say so than sell you one for the wrong reason.
