Does a spread-out house need more than one machine? Possibly. Long horizontal plans with rooms off a corridor distribute less readily than a compact connected volume.
What about the bedrooms? Closed doors sit outside the field. Reed diffusers from Rs 749 belong there.
A single-storey house on a large plot has no stack and no ducts
It is worth being exact about how this machine actually distributes, because the answer changes where it should stand and most advice skips it. A waterless cold-air nebuliser uses pressurised air to break undiluted oil into a dry nano-mist - particles fine and light enough to stay suspended and drift with whatever air is in motion. It does not blow fragrance across a room like a fan, and it does not fill a space by sheer output. It contributes a mist and then depends on the building. In a closed multi-storey house the building obliges, because warm air rises through the stairwell and pulls cooler air in below, so a unit placed low reaches the upper landing on its own. In a house with ducted air conditioning the building obliges even more directly, and the unit can be mounted on a return so the cooling system does the distributing. A single-storey villa spread across a large plot - which is a common and very pleasant way to build here - has neither of those. There is no stairwell, so there is no vertical lift. There is usually no ducting, because rooms are cooled individually or not at all in this climate. And the plan is horizontal and often long, with rooms opening off a corridor or arranged around a courtyard, so the distance from one end of the house to the other is considerable with no single airflow connecting it. Which leaves the ceiling fans, and they are genuinely the answer. A ceiling fan on a low setting is a gentle, continuous air mover that circulates a room and, with doors open, pushes air along a corridor - and it is running anyway for much of the year. So the placement rule for this house type is simple: put the unit in the central circulation of the house, within reach of a fan, rather than in a corner of the living room or behind a sofa. Under or beside a hall fan, on a shelf in the passage that connects the main rooms, or in the connected living-dining space where a fan turns is far more effective than a prettier spot with still air around it. And keep the fan on low rather than high, because a fast fan disperses the mist quickly and thins it, while a slow one carries it further intact. That is the whole mechanical insight of this page, and it is worth passing on when you hand over the gift, because somebody who places it decoratively will conclude the machine is weak. The rest of the specification, for reference. The SOSA Vaayu at eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees covers up to a thousand cubic metres, stated as about two thousand to three thousand square feet - but with the caveat that a long spread-out plan distributes less readily than a compact connected volume of the same area, so in a house with rooms strung along a corridor the sensible expectation is excellent coverage of the central connected part and less at the far ends. Those far rooms want bottles, and so do the bedrooms in any case, because a closed door is outside the machine's field: Morning Freshness at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees for fifty millilitres and one thousand two hundred and forty-nine for one hundred and thirty, Malabar lemon with peppermint and eucalyptus; Evening Calm at seven hundred and ninety-nine and one thousand two hundred and ninety-nine, lavender with chamomile; Mountain Breeze at eight hundred and forty-nine and one thousand three hundred and forty-nine, Himalayan pine, sage and cedar; Garden Bloom at seven hundred and ninety-nine and one thousand two hundred and ninety-nine, British rose with night-blooming jasmine; Fresh Brew at eight hundred and forty-nine and one thousand three hundred and forty-nine, Coorg coffee with Kerala vanilla. A duo set at one thousand four hundred and ninety-eight to two thousand five hundred and ninety-eight rupees covers two of them. The machine is waterless, so no tank, no visible plume, no humidity added and no oily film on the surface underneath. Four hundred millilitre tank lasting up to around seventy-five days a fill. Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, one, four, eight and twenty-four hour windows, day selection, adjustable intensity. Under thirty-eight decibels, twelve volts at five watts, one hundred and sixty-five by eighty by two hundred and fifteen millimetres, nine hundred grams, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mountable, auto-stop and key lock, CE, RoHS and SGS, made in India, and four one hundred millilitre hotel-inspired oils included so it runs the first evening. Refills are the waterless nebuliser oils at one thousand and forty-nine rupees for a hundred grams or one thousand eight hundred and forty-nine for three hundred, never the water-based Hotel Collection at two hundred and ninety-nine rupees, which is a separate system for ultrasonic machines. Three further local points. Houses here are lived in with windows and doors open for much of the year, which makes the interior an unbounded volume during those hours, so schedule the machine for the closed evening hours rather than running it continuously, and start intensity low. A courtyard, veranda, sit-out or garden cannot be scented at all, because outdoor air is unbounded - a candle from six hundred and ninety-nine rupees, or the woodenwick at nine hundred and forty-nine rupees and five paise, works within a metre or so of where people are sitting, sheltered and never unattended. And if the house is larger than roughly three thousand square feet of connected indoor volume, one unit is not the whole answer: SOSA Angaan at twenty-five thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees covers around eight to ten thousand square feet and SOSA Meenar at thirty-eight thousand five hundred covers twelve to eighteen thousand, both HVAC nebulising units, and for a spread-out house of that size the conversation is worth having on WhatsApp first. Two closing notes. If the house is still being finished in stages, as many self-built houses are, hold the machine until the work stops - freshly painted portions need air rather than fragrance. And where a smell has a cause, fragrance is a finishing touch and never a fix.
So the ceiling fans are the distribution system - place the machine where one can reach it
Placed where the house is already moving air.

Versailles
The Vaayu is the most expensive thing we make and we turn down more orders for it than for anything else in the range. Not because we do not want to sell it - because most homes do not need it. It covers up to a thousand cubic metres, roughly two to three thousand square feet, and that is a villa, a penthouse, a large open-plan flat or a house with a double-height room. An ordinary 2BHK is not that, and in an ordinary 2BHK a reed diffuser at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees does the job better than eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees of machine would. So the question we ask is never what somebody spent on their house. It is how many cubic metres of air are in it.
The second thing we say, and almost nobody expects it, is wait a few weeks. A brand-new home smells of paint, varnish, polish, cement and new wood, and those are not smells to cover - they need open windows and time, and they go on their own. Give the machine at the housewarming by all means, but tell them the scenting starts once the building has finished smelling of being built. It is the same rule we apply to a new car, for the same reason: adding fragrance to a smell that is fading anyway is how a good product gets blamed for a bad result.
Two honest limits. Reed diffusers do not fail in large homes, they simply do not reach - a diffuser on a console table scents the area around that console table, which is not a fault, it is physics, and several of them is a real alternative to one machine. And there are two machines above the Vaayu, the Angaan and the Meenar, which are HVAC units for showrooms and hotel floors rather than houses - so if a home is genuinely far beyond three thousand square feet, message us rather than assuming more money solves it.
