Should I mention what the training cost us? Not in this note. It may be true and worth saying another time - putting it here turns a congratulation into an accounting.
When should it arrive? Two or three weeks later. The messages stop after forty-eight hours, and the flat stretch commonly reported after a long training block comes after that.
You saw the mornings they did not want to go
There is one thing a partner has that nobody else does, and it is not sentiment - it is evidence. Training for a marathon is invisible by design. It happens at five in the morning, on wet Tuesdays, on Sunday mornings that swallow half a day, and almost none of it is seen by anybody. The race is the only visible part, and the race is the easy part in the sense that it is the part with adrenaline, a crowd and a clear finish. You saw the other version: the evenings when they were too tired to be good company, the morning they stood in the doorway with their shoes on clearly not wanting to go, the week they were quietly worried something in their leg was not right, the day that went badly and put them in a mood for the whole afternoon. Those are the days that produced the medal, and nobody at the finish line knows any of them happened. Writing three or four sentences about that is worth more than the object it is attached to. Name the specific Tuesday if you remember it. Name the run they nearly skipped. Name the fact that they kept getting up at five when nothing would have happened if they had not, because that is the thing people are most surprised to hear somebody noticed. There is one rule about the note, and it is the same rule as for any partner gift around a long effort. Keep your own side of it out. Four months of somebody else's training block costs the household something - the early nights, the Sundays, the reorganised weekends, the food, a certain amount of social life. All of that may be entirely true, and none of it belongs in this note, because the moment a congratulation mentions the giver's cost, the recipient has to respond to that instead of receiving anything. If there is something to say about how the four months went for you, it deserves its own conversation on a different evening. This one is about them. Two things not to ask, incidentally, and partners are as likely to do both as anyone. Do not lead with their time - first marathons produce a wide range of results and plenty of days go worse than hoped, and if the time is a sore point you are the person they least want to discuss it with in the first week. And do not ask whether they are going to do another one, at least not for a fortnight. In the first two weeks the honest answer is usually no and the expected answer is yes, which is an uncomfortable gap. On what to give, the useful thing about being a partner is that you actually know what they like, which makes a worn fragrance a real option rather than a gamble. It is also one of the few categories that does not collide with the two obvious traps here. Do not buy running kit: they have spent months establishing what works on their own feet and will own better than you can choose. And do not buy anything that suggests recovery, soreness, sleep or performance benefits - this shop sells fragrance, nothing here does anything of that kind, and no claim of that sort is made on this page. If there is pain or an injury, that is for a doctor or a physiotherapist rather than a gift. On timing, the same rule holds as everywhere in this cluster and it is slightly sharper here. Congratulations arrive in a compressed burst after a race and stop within about forty-eight hours. A flat stretch afterwards is very commonly reported by people who do endurance events - four months of structure has ended and nothing has replaced it - which is a description of a common experience rather than a medical claim. Two or three weeks later is when a gift does the most, and as a partner you are in the best position of anybody to notice the exact week it is needed. Now the objects. A solid perfume at four hundred and fifty-nine to five hundred and forty-nine rupees is the best structural fit, because it is the format that gets carried through something rather than displayed after it: fifteen grams of alcohol-free balm in a flat compact, applied with a finger, spill-proof, no cap to lose, six to eight hours, surviving months in a bag. Sway at four hundred and fifty-nine is dark cherry, espresso, cocoa, red patchouli and vanilla husk. Sterling at four hundred and sixty-nine is coconut milk, almond nougat, white amber and powdered musk. Velour at four hundred and seventy-nine is vanilla bean, butter biscuit, toasted almond and whipped cream. Siren at four hundred and eighty-nine is black cherry, espresso, warm vanilla and cedar smoke. Titan at five hundred is Arabica coffee, roasted wood, black pepper, frankincense and leather. Beast at five hundred and forty-nine is smoked whiskey, roasted coffee, spicy leather, amber resin and vanilla bark. An alcohol-free attar at three hundred and seventy-nine to three hundred and ninety-nine rupees is the more intimate option: twelve millilitres of undiluted perfume oil in a glass roll-on with no alcohol carrier, opening quietly and staying within roughly an arm's length rather than filling a room. Adaa is three hundred and seventy-nine, Ameeri three hundred and eighty-five, Mastani three hundred and eighty-nine, Nawaab three hundred and ninety-nine - the last a white oud composition built with Mysore sandalwood and Kashmir saffron rather than a dehn al oud distillate. The Attar Trio at one thousand and fifty-five rupees is there if they are particular, though as their partner you probably do not need it. If you want the fragrance to attach to this period, choose something they do not already own: people very commonly report that a scent used during a stretch of life brings it back later, which is a widely reported experience rather than a mechanism this shop claims, and nothing here is a scientific or medical statement. A coconut-soy candle at three hundred and seventy-nine rupees is the simple option and works well as part of an evening rather than as the whole gift: lead-free eco wick, phthalate-free, hand-poured in small batches in Pune, fifteen to eighteen hours, in Misty Mornings, Bookshop, Evening Walks or Cozy Corner. A reed diffuser at seven hundred and forty-nine to eight hundred and forty-nine rupees suits a house that has had four months of kit drying in it - with the honest sequence being wash the kit, air the place, and then add fragrance to a clean room rather than over it. A minute to set up, then nothing, two to three months with no flame, no socket and no switch. Reeds use their own alcohol-free reed oil drawn up rattan by capillary action; reed oil never goes into a machine, and the water-based Hotel Collection concentrate at two hundred and ninety-nine rupees is ultrasonic-only at three to six drops per tank.

Versailles
There is a pattern I noticed years before we sold anything, and it is the reason this section exists. Somebody achieves something that took them years - the flat, the first car bought outright, the manuscript finished at last - and for about forty-eight hours the phone does not stop. Then it stops completely. The achievement took three years; the celebrating took a weekend, and then everybody went back to their own lives, which is not unkind, it is just how attention works.
Which means a gift arriving in week two or three lands in an empty field. That is the single most useful thing on any of these pages and it costs nothing. The second is that a congratulations gift is not repaying anything: nobody owes anybody here, so there is no ledger to balance and no risk of over-gifting into an obligation. You are free to be as generous as the relationship allows. And write the note about what they did, not about how you feel - name the four years, the thing they gave up, the draft they rewrote eleven times.
Two honest things. If somebody has just bought a new car, do not buy them something to cover the smell of it - most new owners like it, it fades on its own, and a fragrance is better introduced a few weeks later in a restrained register. And if somebody has bought a new home, size the gift to the home: our Vaayu is a waterless nebuliser built for spaces of roughly a thousand cubic metres, which is a hotel lobby rather than a three-bedroom flat, and we would rather tell you that than sell you one. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with what they achieved and what their place is like, and we will say honestly if we think fragrance is the wrong call. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.
