Why is duration better than size? Because a fragrance that runs for a year becomes attached to a period of somebody's life, while a larger object is simply a larger object.
What else is in this band? The 300ml Hotel Collection concentrate at Rs 1,799, the Attar Trio at Rs 1,055, the 130ml reed from Rs 1,249, and pairings of any of these.
The band where you stop buying objects and start buying time
By this band the obvious upgrades have run out, and that is useful rather than limiting. Between one thousand five hundred and two thousand five hundred rupees you are not going to find a fragrance object that is twice as good as a seven-hundred-and-forty-nine rupee reed diffuser, because there is not one. What you can buy is time, and time is genuinely different in kind. Here is the argument. A standard reed diffuser runs for two to three months. That is a good length for a gift and it is short relative to the thing it is usually marking: somebody's first home, the end of a long project, the year in which something happened. Add a three-hundred-millilitre refill at two thousand three hundred and ninety-nine rupees and the same reed keeps going for roughly a year. That changes what the gift is. A scent running for ten weeks is pleasant; a scent running for a year becomes what a place smells like during a particular period, and people very commonly report that a fragrance used across a stretch of life brings that stretch back years afterwards. It is a widely reported experience rather than a mechanism this shop is claiming, and nothing here is a scientific or medical statement - but it only has a chance of happening if the fragrance is present long enough to become the default rather than a novelty. That is what the refill buys, and it is the best use of money at this level. The five-hundred-millilitre refill at three thousand four hundred and ninety-nine rupees sits above this band. Reeds use their own alcohol-free reed oil drawn up rattan by capillary action, which is a separate system: reed oil never goes into a machine, and the water-based Hotel Collection concentrate is ultrasonic-only. The second thing this band buys is a properly sized machine, for somebody who would rather have a switch than an object. The Sukoon at one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine rupees holds five hundred millilitres and has a timer, which makes it right for a bedroom or a medium living room - a real improvement on the three-hundred-millilitre Boond at eight hundred and ninety-nine, which belongs on a desk or a bedside table rather than in a room. As always, never give a machine with nothing to run in it: the Sukoon takes the water-based Hotel Collection concentrate at two hundred and ninety-nine rupees for fifteen millilitres, nine hundred and ninety-nine for a hundred or one thousand seven hundred and ninety-nine for three hundred, used at three to six drops per tank. The Sukoon with the fifteen-millilitre concentrate is two thousand one hundred and ninety-eight rupees; with the hundred-millilitre it is two thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight, just above the band. The seven registers are Quiet Luxury with white tea, bergamot and cedar; White Tea Serenity with white tea, aloe and cedar; Forest Suite with cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves; Old-World Glamour with amber, violet and woods; Tea Garden with jasmine, green tea and white tea; Warm Welcome with citrus, floral and sandalwood; and Lobby Bar with citrus, pepper and amber - SOSA's own interpretations, and the shop is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. The three-hundred-millilitre concentrate at one thousand seven hundred and ninety-nine rupees is a strong gift on its own where somebody already owns an ultrasonic machine, because it is the version that lasts. Third, this band allows combinations that cover more than one register at once. A reed diffuser at seven hundred and forty-nine plus the Attar Trio at one thousand and fifty-five comes to one thousand eight hundred and four rupees and covers a home and a person - which for a first home or a major personal achievement is close to a complete answer. A reed at eight hundred and forty-nine plus two candles at seven hundred and fifty-eight is one thousand six hundred and seven. The 130ml reed from one thousand two hundred and forty-nine plus a candle at three hundred and seventy-nine is one thousand six hundred and twenty-eight and suits a larger flat. Two limits worth stating at this level, because this is where people start asking about the bigger machines. The Megh at three thousand four hundred and ninety-nine rupees is a six-litre machine for a large or open-plan space and is above this band. The SOSA Safar waterless car diffuser at three thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees is also above it, and is the right gift only where the car itself is the achievement. And the SOSA Vaayu at eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees is a waterless nebuliser built for roughly one thousand cubic metres - commercial scale, a showroom or a lobby rather than a home - so it is not a domestic gift at any budget. An oversized diffuser is an uncomfortable experience rather than a luxurious one, and we would rather say so than sell one. Finally, the reminder that applies at every level of this range and matters more than the difference between one thousand and two thousand five hundred rupees: write three or four specific sentences naming what the person did, how long it took and the part nobody else saw, and send the gift in week two or three rather than in the forty-eight hours when everybody else is sending theirs. Both are free. Neither is optional if you want the gift to land.

Versailles
There is a pattern I noticed years before we sold anything, and it is the reason this section exists. Somebody achieves something that took them years - the flat, the first car bought outright, the manuscript finished at last - and for about forty-eight hours the phone does not stop. Then it stops completely. The achievement took three years; the celebrating took a weekend, and then everybody went back to their own lives, which is not unkind, it is just how attention works.
Which means a gift arriving in week two or three lands in an empty field. That is the single most useful thing on any of these pages and it costs nothing. The second is that a congratulations gift is not repaying anything: nobody owes anybody here, so there is no ledger to balance and no risk of over-gifting into an obligation. You are free to be as generous as the relationship allows. And write the note about what they did, not about how you feel - name the four years, the thing they gave up, the draft they rewrote eleven times.
Two honest things. If somebody has just bought a new car, do not buy them something to cover the smell of it - most new owners like it, it fades on its own, and a fragrance is better introduced a few weeks later in a restrained register. And if somebody has bought a new home, size the gift to the home: our Vaayu is a waterless nebuliser built for spaces of roughly a thousand cubic metres, which is a hotel lobby rather than a three-bedroom flat, and we would rather tell you that than sell you one. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with what they achieved and what their place is like, and we will say honestly if we think fragrance is the wrong call.
