Founder Diaries · Luxury Home Scenting
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 8 min read Updated August 2026
Two thousand square feet is the size where a machine stops being a luxury and starts being the only thing that works. It is too much house for a reed and too much house for one ultrasonic in the living room, and it is comfortably inside what a cold-air machine holds. It is also the size where the two-layer answer becomes obvious the moment you count your own doors.
Quick answers — read this first
What size scent machine does a 2,000 sq ft villa need? Convert first: 2,000 sq ft at a 10 ft ceiling is 20,000 cubic feet, which divided by 35.3 is about 566 cubic metres. That sits comfortably inside the SOSA Vaayu's approximately 1000 cubic metres, and your real load is smaller still, because bedrooms and bathrooms sit behind doors. In a typical 2,000 sq ft villa the connected space - entrance, living, dining, passage and stair void - is around 800 to 1,000 sq ft, which at 10 ft is about 227 to 283 cubic metres. So one Vaayu at Rs 11,999, waterless cold-air with a Bluetooth app and timer and four hotel-inspired blends in the box, is the standard answer for the shared air, with a reed diffuser from Rs 749 in each room that stays shut.

Is one machine enough for a 2,000 sq ft house? One machine is enough for the connected volume, which is where the answer has to be split honestly. Fragrance travels with moving air and cannot pass a closed door, so a 2,000 sq ft villa is not one 566 cubic metre space; it is a connected living volume of roughly 227 to 283 cubic metres plus three or four sealed rooms. The Vaayu holds the first part beautifully at Rs 11,999. The sealed rooms are a separate and much cheaper problem answered by a reed from Rs 749 or a Boond at Rs 899 each, not by a second machine. A three-bedroom house on that pattern is Rs 11,999 plus Rs 2,247, or Rs 14,246 in total.

Do I need a Vaayu or would a Megh be enough for 2,000 sq ft? It depends entirely on whether your ground floor is one open space or a set of rooms. If what you live in is a single large living room and everything else is separate, a Megh 6L at Rs 3,499 with the water-based Hotel Collection from Rs 299 does that room honestly. If your entrance opens into the living room, which opens into the dining, with a stair void rising out of it, that is one connected volume of a few hundred cubic metres and an ultrasonic standing in one corner of it will produce a strong pocket and a thin far end. That is the case the Vaayu is built for: active dispersion across the whole volume at one even level, on a schedule.
The short answer
Short answer: 2,000 sq ft at a 10 ft ceiling is 20,000 cubic feet, about 566 cubic metres - well inside the SOSA Vaayu's approximately 1000 cubic metres. The real load is smaller: the connected living volume is usually 800 to 1,000 sq ft, about 227 to 283 cubic metres. So one Vaayu at Rs 11,999 (waterless, app and timer, four hotel-inspired blends included) on the shared air, plus a reed from Rs 749 or a Boond Rs 899 in each closed bedroom. A three-bedroom house is Rs 14,246 in total. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999, four hotel-inspired blends included in the box) for the connected living volume of a villa; reeds from ₹749 for a single bedroom or bathroom; a single room done properly from ₹899; the Aangan (₹25,999) ducted into central air-conditioning for genuine whole-home coverage.

A villa is not one room, it is a set of connected volumes and a set of closed doors, and the two need different answers. Whole-home scenting means one fragrance held evenly across the part of the house you actually live in - the entrance, the living room, the dining - running on a schedule so it is already there when someone walks through your front door, and already there when you come home yourself. The bedrooms, the guest bathroom and the study get their own quiet solutions. Nobody in the house has to remember anything.
Straight answer
What is the best scent machine for a 2,000 sq ft villa, and how much of the house does it reach?
One machine and one cheap layer, and the arithmetic explains both. 1. The conversion. Floor area x ceiling height = cubic feet, / 35.3 = cubic metres. At 10 ft, 2,000 sq ft is 20,000 cubic feet, about 566m³. 2. The load you actually carry. Take out every room whose door is shut in the evening and a 2,000 sq ft villa usually leaves 800 to 1,000 sq ft connected - entrance, living, dining, passage, stair void - which is about 227 to 283m³. 3. The machine. The SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999: waterless cold-air nebulising to approximately 1000m³, Bluetooth app and timer so the house is scented before anyone walks in, and four hotel-inspired waterless blends in the box as Bundle A, B or C. This size is its natural home - comfortably inside the rating, with headroom for a double-height hall. 4. The layer nobody sells you. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms are sealed air. A reed from ₹749 each, or a Boond ₹899 where you want more presence. Three reeds is ₹2,247, so the house comes to ₹14,246. 5. Where it goes. Low, inside the connected volume, out of a split air-conditioner's draught, near where the entrance opens up. Ventilate and clean first; scent finishes clean air. One line: 2,000 sq ft is about 566m³ at 10 ft and your connected part is nearer 227-283m³ - so one Vaayu ₹11,999 with four blends in the box on the shared air, plus a ₹749 reed behind each shut door. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
The whole-home answer most villa owners land on: the SOSA Vaayu - waterless cold-air scenting to ~1000m³, Bluetooth app and timer, and four hotel-inspired blends included in the box - at ₹11,999. Why 2,000 sq ft is the Vaayu's natural home

Three things make this the size a machine was designed for.

Why this works at home
The standard 2,000 sq ft answer, in four moves
12,000 sq ft at 10 ft is 20,000 cu ft, about 566 cubic metres of air2Your connected part is nearer 800-1,000 sq ft, about 227-283 cubic metres3One Vaayu Rs 11,999 holds it, with four hotel-inspired blends in the box4Three bedrooms on reeds at Rs 749 each brings the house to Rs 14,246
The whole-home answer: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, app-scheduled, ~1000m³, and it arrives with four hotel-inspired blends in the box. A single bedroom or guest bathroom starts on reeds from ₹749.
1
Reason one
The number lands inside the rating with room to spare
Do the conversion and the anxiety disappears. Floor area multiplied by ceiling height gives cubic feet; divide by 35.3 for cubic metres. At a standard 10 ft ceiling, 2,000 sq ft is 20,000 cubic feet, which is about 566m³ - a little over half of the Vaayu's approximately 1000m³ even if every internal door in the house were removed. Then subtract the rooms that are shut, which is what actually happens in a home, and the load falls to the 227 to 283m³ range for a typical 800 to 1,000 sq ft of connected ground floor. Two adjustments are worth making before you settle. If your ceilings are 12 ft rather than 10, multiply accordingly: 2,000 sq ft at 12 ft is 24,000 cubic feet, about 680m³ for the whole plan. And if you have a double-height hall, count that part at its real height, because a 300 sq ft entrance at 20 ft is 6,000 cubic feet, about 170m³ on its own. Even with both adjustments, 2,000 sq ft sits inside the rating comfortably, which is exactly why this is the size the machine feels designed around.
Tip: at 2,000 sq ft the maths is not tight, and that headroom is what lets you run the machine gently rather than hard.
2
Reason two
It is the size where objects stop working and a system starts
Below this size a good ultrasonic in the room you live in is often enough. At 2,000 sq ft it usually is not, and the reason is geometry rather than strength. A villa at this size typically has an entrance that opens into a living room, a dining area beyond it, a passage joining the two and a stair void rising out of the middle - one body of air with a long axis. An ultrasonic such as a Megh at ₹3,499 sits at one point in that axis and works outward, so the sofa smells lovely, the entrance smells of nothing and the dining smells of dinner. Reeds fail the same way for the same reason: a reed from ₹749 scents the air touching it, so five reeds across an open floor make five pools of different strength that never agree with each other. Active dispersion is what changes the outcome, and that is what the Vaayu does at ₹11,999 - waterless cold-air nebulising, a dry micro-mist fine enough to stay airborne and travel, held at one even level and driven on a Bluetooth schedule so the whole volume is settled before the doorbell goes.
3
Reason three
The second layer is cheap, and it is not a second machine
Everything above describes half a house. The other half is behind doors: three bedrooms, two bathrooms, sometimes a study or a puja room, each a sealed volume of its own. No machine at any price pushes fragrance under a closed door, and the correct response is not to buy a bigger or second machine but to spend a very small amount per room. A reed diffuser from ₹749 needs no power, makes no noise and nothing hums beside a sleeping person, which is precisely why it beats a machine in a bedroom rather than merely substituting for one. Where you want a room a little more present, a Boond at ₹899 or a Sukoon at ₹1,899 with the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299 does the job. The arithmetic for a three-bedroom 2,000 sq ft villa: ₹11,999 for the connected volume plus ₹2,247 for three reeds is ₹14,246 for the whole house. Carry one register across both layers so a doorway changes depth rather than subject, and the house reads as one house.
Tip: the bedrooms are not a coverage problem to be solved with more machine. They are five doors and five small answers.
The SOSA principle
2,000 sq ft is 566m³ on paper and about 227 to 283m³ in practice - one machine on the shared air, one small object behind each shut door.
This is the size where a system genuinely beats objects, and where the whole house comes in around Rs 14,246.

The SOSA home edit

Whatever the house looks like, the logic is the same: one scent, sized to the volume that is genuinely connected, running on a schedule so nobody in the family has to remember it. A single bedroom or a guest bathroom is happy on reeds with no power at all; the living room you actually live in wants a machine; the whole villa with central air-conditioning wants the ducts doing the work. Every SOSA system is made in India, cruelty-free and vegan, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is where each one belongs.

Honest notes before you buy anything. Coverage ratings assume connected air volume. A machine cannot push scent through a closed bedroom door, and it never will - so a partitioned villa is not one scenting problem but several, and honest sizing means saying so out loud rather than selling you one machine and hoping. Scent the volume that is genuinely open to itself, then give the closed rooms their own quiet answer, usually a reed diffuser. Fragrance never substitutes for ventilation or cleaning. If a room smells damp, stale or of last night's cooking, open it, air it and clean it first; scent added on top of that only makes a more complicated bad smell. A home is not a lobby you pass through. Households include children, elderly parents, pregnant family members and pets, all of whom breathe this air far longer than any visitor does, which is why gentle dosing is the default at home and why the settings we suggest are lower than the machine can run. Anyone in the house reporting a headache is a recalibration signal, not a complaint to argue with - turn it down or turn it off, and tell us. The Vaayu runs waterless nebulising oil and comes with the four hotel-inspired blends; the Hotel Collection bottle is water-based and belongs in the ultrasonic machines only. The two formats are not interchangeable. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. ISIPCA
Versailles
A note from Sonal

There is a difference between a room that smells nice and a home that has a signature, and almost nobody is told what it is. A room that smells nice is an event: you light a candle, you spray something in the hallway before people arrive, it is lovely for forty minutes and then it is gone. Somewhere else in the house a bathroom gel is doing one thing, a kitchen spray another, and a bedroom reed a third. Four pleasant smells in four rooms is not a fragranced home. It is four rooms.

A signature is the opposite. It is one scent, sized to the house, running on a schedule - so it is already in the air when someone walks through your front door, and already there at eleven at night when you come home yourself, and nobody has lifted a finger to make it happen. That is the whole trick the great hotels use, and it is not complicated: they do not chase smells room by room, they hold one fragrance across the volume people actually move through. In a villa that usually means the entrance, the living room and the dining as one connected space, with the closed rooms handled separately and quietly.

I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and I have sized this for houses across India, and I would rather tell you honestly that your layout needs two answers than sell you one machine that disappoints you. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with your home's approximate size, the number of floors and a line about the layout - open plan, closed rooms, central air-conditioning or split units - and we will give you a free sizing recommendation. I read those descriptions myself. Everything is made in India, cruelty-free and vegan, and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your home gets a memory; a girl gets a classroom.

Frequently asked questions

My 2,000 sq ft is spread over two floors. Does that change the machine?
It changes the placement rather than the machine. A stair void behaves like a chimney: warm air rises through it, so a unit placed low in the connected ground-floor volume near the base of the stairs will carry its register up to the landing on its own, and what arrives upstairs is gentler than what is downstairs, which is usually welcome. Add the landing to your volume calculation at its real floor area, because it is genuinely connected air - 150 sq ft of landing at a 10 ft ceiling is 1,500 cubic feet, about 42 cubic metres. What will not happen is scent getting under a closed bedroom door on that landing, so the upstairs bedrooms and guest bathroom still take a reed from Rs 749 each. One Vaayu downstairs plus reeds upstairs is the pattern that works in most two-floor houses of this size.
What does the whole house cost to do properly at 2,000 sq ft?
You can work it out exactly from published prices. The connected volume takes one Vaayu at Rs 11,999, and because four hotel-inspired waterless blends are included in the box there is nothing further to buy to start. Three bedrooms on Morning Freshness reeds at Rs 749 each is Rs 2,247, bringing the house to Rs 14,246; adding two bathrooms at Rs 749 makes it Rs 15,744. If you prefer Garden Bloom or Evening Calm at Rs 799, three is Rs 2,397 and the house is Rs 14,396. Swap any bedroom to a Boond at Rs 899 with the water-based Hotel Collection at Rs 299 and that room becomes Rs 1,198. What we deliberately do not publish is an ongoing fragrance figure for the Vaayu, because it depends on your air volume, your schedule and your intensity setting - message us on WhatsApp and we will arrange ongoing supply directly.
Where exactly should the machine sit in a 2,000 sq ft villa?
Inside the connected volume, low rather than high, and out of the direct blast of a split air-conditioner. Low matters because warm air rises and convection will lift the fragrance through the room and up a stair void for you, whereas a unit on a high shelf mostly scents the ceiling. Out of the draught matters because an air-conditioner blowing across the machine throws the output one way and leaves the rest of the floor thin. In practice the best spot in a house this size is a console, an open shelf or a cabinet roughly where the entrance opens into the living area - close enough to the front door that arrival is the strongest moment, central enough that the dining end does not go thin. It needs air moving around it, so a fully closed cupboard will not work.
Would two smaller machines be better than one Vaayu at this size?
Almost never, and the reason is consistency rather than cost. Two ultrasonics at, say, Rs 3,499 and Rs 1,899 come to Rs 5,398 and look like a saving, but they produce two zones with two intensities that drift apart as their tanks empty at different rates, and you now have two things to fill. One machine holding one even level across the whole connected volume is what makes a house read as composed rather than patchy, and the Bluetooth schedule means it happens without anyone doing anything. Where two units genuinely make sense is when they are answering two genuinely separate volumes - a sealed upper floor with its own sitting area, or an annexe - which is a different situation from splitting one open ground floor in half.
Is 2,000 sq ft big enough to justify Rs 11,999 on home fragrance?
That is a household question rather than a technical one, and the honest test is how you live. If your ground floor is open, you are home in the evenings, you have people over regularly and you are tired of the entrance smelling of nothing at seven in the morning, then a machine that holds one register across the whole shared floor on a schedule is the thing that finally solves it, and Rs 11,999 including four blends compares well with putting eight reeds through a house at Rs 749 each. If you are rarely home, if your ground floor is partitioned into small closed rooms, or if someone in the household is sensitive to fragrance, we would rather tell you to spend Rs 3,499 on a Megh for the room you actually use, or nothing at all.

Facts verified August 2026: The SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebulising machine covering approximately 1000m³, with Bluetooth app and timer scheduling. It ships with four hotel-inspired waterless blends included in the box, chosen as one of three bundles at purchase: Bundle A - Ritz-Carlton Inspired, Westin Inspired, St. Regis Inspired, 1 Hotels Inspired; Bundle B - Westin Inspired, Shangri-La Inspired, Four Seasons Inspired, Ritz-Carlton Inspired; Bundle C - St. Regis Inspired, W Hotels Inspired, 1 Hotels Inspired, Four Seasons Inspired. Format distinction: the Vaayu and the HVAC systems run waterless nebulising oil, while the separate SOSA Hotel Collection fragrance (15ml ₹299) is water-based and runs in the ultrasonic machines only - Boond (₹899), Sukoon (₹1,899) and Megh (₹3,499). The two fragrance formats are not interchangeable, and the Hotel Collection bottle does not go into a Vaayu. SOSA Aangan (₹25,999) and SOSA Meenar (₹38,500) are HVAC nebulising systems for approximately 8,000-10,000 sq ft and 12,000-18,000 sq ft respectively, ducted into central air-conditioning. Reed diffusers need no power and make no noise: Morning Freshness ₹749, Garden Bloom ₹799, Evening Calm ₹799, Mountain Breeze ₹849, Fresh Brew ₹849; 130ml from ₹1,249; duo sets ₹1,498, ₹1,548 and ₹1,598. Scent perception is personal and varies between people in the same room, and coverage figures assume connected air volume rather than a partitioned floor plan. Ventilation, cleaning and air-conditioning come first; fragrance is an addition to a well-kept home and never a substitute for any of them. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any hotel brand. Made in India, cruelty-free and vegan. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Ongoing fragrance supply is arranged with SOSA on WhatsApp: +91 96192 18531.
