Should I buy my father an attar or a car fragrance? Attar if you can name a scent he already wears, because it is a taste decision either way. Car fragrance at ₹449 to ₹549 if you cannot, because it asks nothing of his taste and goes to a space he uses every morning.
Is a perfume too expensive as a gift for a father? Not inherently, but it is the dearest of the three and it only works if he already wears a sprayed fragrance daily. A 10ml SOSA perfume is ₹599; a 100ml is ₹3,499 to ₹3,599. If he does not have a spraying habit, an attar at ₹379 or a car bottle at ₹449 will be used more.
What each of the three formats asks of him before it gets used
A product grid sorts fragrance by price, which tells you what you can afford and nothing about whether the bottle will be opened twice. Sorting by demand tells you the useful thing, and the three formats sit in a very clear order.
Price and size run ₹379 to ₹399 for 3ml, ₹669 to ₹699 for 6ml and ₹1,149 to ₹1,199 for 12ml. Adaa is bergamot, green cardamom, jasmine sambac and white musk; Ameeri is Taif rose with Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron and soft oudh; Mastani is night-blooming jasmine with damask rose and oudh; Nawaab is white royal oud with Mysore sandalwood and Kashmir saffron. Start at 3ml. The 12ml is a long commitment to a guess.
They are SOSA's own compositions rather than versions of anything else, and they include Zaffran, built on saffron and sweet amber, and Tabac Noir, built on tobacco and vanilla. If you want to try this route without betting ₹3,599 on it, the 10ml at ₹599 is the sensible size and the only one worth buying blind.
Nine scents run ₹449 to ₹549, each in a mild hanging format and a stronger spray at the same price, with a 50ml spray at ₹1,499, saver combos at ₹899 to ₹949, a three-mini Discovery Set at ₹699 to ₹799 and refills at ₹399 to ₹429. One honest limit: do not buy any of this for a father who barely drives. The format asks nothing of him, but it does require a car he is actually in.
- Can you name a scent he already wears? If not, skip both worn formats.
- Has he ever worn an oil rather than a spray? If yes, attar from Rs 379.
- Does he spray something every single morning? Only then consider perfume.
- Count his driving hours. Over five a week, car fragrance from Rs 449 wins.
Sizes and prices across the three formats
Sizes decide as much as scents here. In attar, 3ml at ₹379 to ₹399 is a complete bottle and the right first purchase, 6ml at ₹669 to ₹699 suits somebody who has worn that scent before, and 12ml at ₹1,149 to ₹1,199 only makes sense when he has finished one already. In perfume, the 10ml at ₹599 is the trial size and the only one to buy on a guess, while 50ml at ₹1,799 to ₹1,899 and 100ml at ₹3,499 to ₹3,599 are for a scent he has confirmed. In car fragrance, the two formats matter more than the scent: hanging is mild and cannot overwhelm a closed car, and spray is stronger and lets him control how much goes in. Both cost the same, which is unusual and worth using. A Discovery Set of three minis at ₹699 to ₹799 is the way to find out which scent he keeps.
| The option | Who it suits, and where it fails |
|---|---|
| Attar · ₹379 to ₹1,199 | Alcohol-free concentrated oil in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml, rolled onto the pulse points rather than sprayed, so it stays close to the skin. Suits a father who has worn oil before, which in India is a lot of them. It fails when you have guessed his character wrong, so the 3ml at ₹379 is the sensible entry rather than the 12ml. |
| SOSA perfume · ₹599 to ₹3,599 | Alcohol-free sprayed fragrance, SOSA's own compositions, at ₹599 for 10ml, ₹1,799 to ₹1,899 for 50ml and ₹3,499 to ₹3,599 for 100ml. Suits a father who already sprays something daily and whose taste you can describe. It fails hardest of the three when you cannot - a 100ml wrong guess is the most expensive mistake available here. |
| Car fragrance, hanging · ₹449 to ₹509 | The mild scent-throw version, hung from the mirror and left alone. Suits anybody who commutes and asks nothing of his taste or his routine, with refills at ₹399 to ₹429 afterwards. It fails for a father who drives twice a week, and it is too subtle for somebody who wants a noticeable hit when he gets in. |
| Car fragrance, spray · ₹449 to ₹549 | The stronger scent-throw version at the same price as the hanging one, plus a 50ml at ₹1,499. Suits a father who would rather decide how much scent is in the car on any given day. It fails as a first gift if you have no idea how strong he likes things - the hanging format is the safer opening move. |
One comparison people expect and should not get: there is no honest ranking of these three by quality. They are the same idea delivered at three distances - on the skin, in the air around him, and in a sealed four-seat space. What differs is the effort of adoption and the cost of being wrong. Being wrong about a ₹449 car bottle costs ₹449 and a scent he does not switch on. Being wrong about a 100ml perfume at ₹3,599 costs a great deal more and leaves an object that has to stay on the shelf. That asymmetry, rather than any judgement about the formats, is why the cheaper two get recommended here far more often.
The SOSA gifting range
Three questions settle almost every father gift. Will it be worn, in which case it is a taste decision and you need to be able to finish the sentence he usually wears something with...? Does it go in his car, where the only real choice is between the mild hanging format and the stronger spray at the same price, and where the gift is noticed every single morning? Or does it sit in a room, which is the answer for a retired father or one who works from home, and which asks nothing of you except knowing which room he actually sits in? Answer that first, then pick the band - because the commonest mistake here is spending more to cover up not knowing.
| Gift | What it is | Who it suits | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| SOSA attars | Alcohol-free roll-on oil | Nawaab is the oud one and Ameeri the rose-and-sandalwood one - the traditional formats most Indian fathers already recognise | from ₹379 |
| SOSA Attar Trio | Pack of three attars | Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani in one box - for when you cannot name what he wears | from ₹1,055 |
| SOSA car fragrance | Hanging or spray | Nine scents, each in a mild hanging format and a stronger spray at the same price - the gap in most fathers' lives | from ₹449 |
| SOSA Safar | Waterless car and travel diffuser | Cordless, rechargeable cold diffusion for a father who genuinely drives for hours or lives out of a suitcase | ₹3,999 |
| SOSA reed diffusers | Passive home fragrance | Five scents in 50ml and 130ml, nothing to plug in or switch off, about 6 to 10 weeks - the retired-father answer | from ₹749 |
| SOSA reed duo sets | Two reeds in one box | Day & Night, Fresh & Grounded and Warmth & Bloom - a gift to both parents rather than one | from ₹1,498 |
| SOSA Vaayu | Waterless cold-air machine | Approx 1000 m3 of connected air with a Bluetooth app and timer - a large home or his business premises | ₹11,999 |
Three different fluids run through this range and none of them is interchangeable. Reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil. The SOSA ultrasonics - Boond ₹899, Sukoon ₹1,899 and Megh ₹3,499 - run the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299. Vaayu and Safar run waterless nebulising oil, so the ₹299 water-based bottle never goes into either of them. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
- Attars - Adaa ₹379 / ₹669 / ₹1,149, Ameeri ₹385 / ₹679 / ₹1,165, Mastani ₹389 / ₹685 / ₹1,179 and Nawaab ₹399 / ₹699 / ₹1,199 in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml. The Attar Trio is ₹1,055, ₹1,859 or ₹3,189.
- Reed diffusers - Morning Freshness ₹749, Garden Bloom and Evening Calm ₹799, Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew ₹849 in 50ml; 130ml from ₹1,249. They last about 6 to 10 weeks. Duo sets from ₹1,498.
- Car fragrance - nine scents from ₹449 to ₹549, each in a mild hanging format and a stronger spray at the same price, with 50ml sprays at ₹1,499 and saver combos at ₹899 to ₹949. Safar is ₹3,999, or ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios.

Versailles
A striking number of the messages we get start the same way: my father says he doesn't want anything. In my experience that sentence almost never means what it says. It usually means do not spend money on me, which is a different instruction entirely, and it is one you can actually follow. The gift that works is small, it is used up rather than kept, and it goes somewhere he already is. That is why so much of what I recommend for fathers costs between ₹379 and ₹1,000, and why I am perfectly happy to talk somebody out of the bigger box.
The second thing I say is: look at his car. An Indian father who commutes has a space that belongs entirely to him, that he spends more waking hours in than any room of the house, and that he has almost certainly never spent a rupee on making pleasant. A ₹449 hanging bottle is noticed on the first morning and every morning after, which is more than most gifts three times the price manage. If he does not drive, look at what he wears - and if he has worn sandalwood or oud his whole life, an attar is not a novelty to him, it is the format he grew up with.
One honest caution about the first-salary gift, because we see it often and it is lovely. The instinct is to spend the whole feeling in one purchase, and to buy the most expensive thing in the range to make the point. The point does not need an expensive object to be made. Most fathers I hear about kept the small thing and mentioned the amount for years. Spend it on accuracy - the right scent, the right format, the right place - and put whatever is left back in your own account, which is a thing he would approve of more than the gift.

Limits of this guide: fragrance adds a scent and does not remove, neutralise or purify odour, and no SOSA product makes any health, antibacterial, air-purifying or wellbeing claim. No claim is made about how any recipient will feel about a gift, and nothing here is a claim about mood, stress, calm or sleep: a fragrance is a scent, not a treatment, and where a product name contains a word such as Calm that is a name and not an effect. Recommendations by profession, age or routine describe where a person spends their day and nothing more; they are not claims about anybody's health, and no product here is suitable for use in a clinical setting on that basis. No delivery date, dispatch time, order cut-off, discount or minimum order quantity is stated anywhere on this page; corporate and bulk enquiries are answered on WhatsApp. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand; the SOSA perfumes are SOSA's own compositions and are not the designer fragrances they are described as being inspired by.
