Most gifts meant to remind somebody of home announce themselves - a photograph, an object, something with a place printed on it. Scent does the same job silently and far more often, because it is used every morning rather than looked at occasionally. That is the real argument for sending an attar with a sister who is leaving, and it has nothing to do with sentiment being printed on anything.
Quick answers — read this first
Why give an attar to a sister moving overseas? Because it is worn every day rather than looked at occasionally, and the registers - Indian sandalwood, night jasmine, Taif rose - carry home without anything being printed on them.

Which attar should I choose? Ameeri at Rs 385 is Taif rose with Indian sandalwood. Mastani at Rs 389 is night jasmine and Damask rose. Nawaab at Rs 399 is a white oud composition. Adaa at Rs 379 is bergamot and green cardamom.

How long does 12ml last? A long time. It is undiluted and applied at two or three pulse points rather than sprayed, which matters when replacing it means an international parcel.
The short answer
Short answer: An attar suits a move overseas because it is used daily rather than displayed, and its registers carry a connection to home without anything being inscribed. The four are Adaa at Rs 379 with bergamot, green cardamom, jasmine sambac and white musk; Ameeri at Rs 385 with Taif rose and Indian sandalwood; Mastani at Rs 389 with night jasmine and Damask rose; and Nawaab at Rs 399, a white oud composition with Mysore sandalwood and Kashmir saffron rather than a dehn al oud distillate. Each is 12ml of undiluted oil in a glass roll-on, applied at two or three pulse points, so it lasts.
The pick: a SOSA return gift - consumable, no shelf space, from ₹299 a head.
Bulk: 10 to 200+ pieces quoted on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. Rates are not published here.
Gifts for a sister - at a glanceYou have thirty years of information and usually spend none of itShe is the most over-gifted person you know, from a narrow listI don't want anything usually means see me, not supply meFrom ₹299 · worn, home, car or travel
A sister is the one person you can simply ask - and the one whose taste you already half know, which makes the most personal category in a fragrance shop safe for you and risky for everybody else. The failure is not spending too little; it is buying the version of her from five years ago, or buying from the same narrow list she is already given every festival. Gifts start at Rs 299, and anything can be checked on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 first.
Straight answer
Why give an attar to a sister moving overseas?
Because it is used every morning rather than looked at, and the registers carry home with nothing printed on anything. Indian sandalwood: Ameeri at ₹385 - Taif rose on Indian sandalwood. Night jasmine: Mastani at ₹389 - with Damask rose. Sandalwood and saffron: Nawaab at ₹399 - a white oud composition, not a dehn al oud distillate. Green and bright: Adaa at ₹379. All three to take: the Attar Trio at ₹1,055, 36ml in total. 12ml lasts, which matters when a replacement means an international parcel. Ask on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531.
Worn every morning, not looked at occasionally. From Rs 379.
If you want one answer for a mixed guest list: hanging car perfume from ₹449, because almost every adult guest drives and almost nobody has done anything about their car. Bulk quantities quoted on WhatsApp.

The register does the work, and it does it without being sentimental

There is a version of this gift that does not work and it is worth describing first, because almost everybody reaches for it. The object that says home - a framed photograph, something with a map or a place name on it, a keepsake chosen for its associations. These are given with real feeling and they have a common fate: they are packed, unpacked once, placed somewhere, and then seen without being noticed within about three weeks. Anything whose whole function is to be looked at stops being looked at. Scent works differently, and the difference is frequency. Something worn every morning is used three hundred times a year, and each use is a small experience rather than a glance at an ornament. It also works on a level that does not require her to be in the mood for it - nobody has to decide to notice a scent they are wearing. That is why, for somebody living in another country, twelve millilitres of the right thing does more over a year than almost any object of the same cost or size. Then there is the question of which register, and this is where the gift earns its specificity rather than just being nice. Indian sandalwood, night jasmine, Taif rose and saffron are not unavailable abroad, but the particular combination - alcohol-free, undiluted, composed in this idiom and priced sensibly - is genuinely hard to reproduce in most of the places she is likely to be living. She will be able to buy perfume anywhere. She will not easily be able to buy this. Ameeri at three hundred and eighty-five rupees is Taif rose with Indian sandalwood, and it is the most direct of the four in this respect: rose sitting on sandalwood rather than on sugar, dry and composed, and it is the one that reads most clearly as being from here. Mastani at three hundred and eighty-nine rupees is night jasmine and Damask rose, the most openly floral, and jasmine has a particular hold on people who grew up around it. Nawaab at three hundred and ninety-nine rupees is a white oud composition built with Mysore sandalwood and Kashmir saffron - and it is worth saying plainly that it is a composition in that register rather than a dehn al oud distillate, because precision is more respectful than implication. Adaa at three hundred and seventy-nine rupees is bergamot, green cardamom, jasmine sambac and white musk, which is the brightest and the most generally wearable of the four. The Attar Trio at one thousand and fifty-five rupees is three of them, thirty-six millilitres in total, which is a year of rotation and still weighs less than a paperback. Now the practical half, which matters more than usual when the recipient is going to be several thousand kilometres from anywhere that sells this. An attar is twelve millilitres of undiluted perfume oil in a glass roll-on with no alcohol carrier, applied with the roller rather than sprayed. Because there is no alcohol to flash off, nothing is pushed outward: it opens quietly and stays within roughly an arm's length. Two consequences follow for her. The first is duration - undiluted oil applied at two or three points goes a long way, and a small bottle survives months of daily use, which matters when replacing it means asking somebody at home to post something. The second is that it releases nothing into the air, which is a real advantage in the shared housing that most people land in for the first weeks abroad: no spray in a room shared with somebody she has just met, nothing carrying into a corridor, nothing to explain. It is also the format least likely to cause trouble in a suitcase - a roller under a cap rather than a pump, with no atomiser to break and nothing that leaks under cabin pressure. On carriage, the honest note that belongs on every page of this section: cabin-liquid allowances are set by the airline and the departure airport, they differ and they change, so the current limits for her journey are hers to check rather than something this page should state. A few words on wearing it, because it is not obvious to somebody used to sprays and it affects whether the gift becomes a habit. Two or three pulse points with the roller is plenty; more does not increase projection much, it only makes the near field heavier. The neck and behind the ears outlast the wrists on a day involving frequent handwashing, which is worth knowing. Wrists should not be rubbed together, since that crushes the opening, and with an attar there is less of an opening to spare. And it layers perfectly well under or over a spray if she wants more presence on a particular evening. One last thought about what this gift actually does. It is not a memorial to a place she has left. It is something she puts on before going to work in the place she now lives, and the fact that it happens to be made of sandalwood and jasmine is a private detail rather than a statement. That is a much better way for a gift to carry home than anything that has to be explained.

1
Frequency, not sentiment
Worn 300 times a year
An object whose whole function is to be looked at stops being looked at within about three weeks. A worn scent does not require her to be in the mood for it.
Tip: Nobody has to decide to notice something they are already wearing.
2
The register is hard to replace
She can buy perfume anywhere
What she cannot easily buy is alcohol-free, undiluted, composed in this idiom and sensibly priced - in most of the places she is likely to be living.
3
12ml goes a long way
Which matters at that distance
Undiluted oil at two or three points lasts months of daily use - and replacing it means asking somebody at home to post something.
Tip: It also releases nothing into shared housing, and has no atomiser to break in a suitcase.
The SOSA principle
Two or three pulse points is plenty, and the neck outlasts the wrists on a day of frequent handwashing. Rubbing wrists together crushes the opening.
Cabin-liquid allowances are set by the airline and the departure airport and they change - check the current limits for her journey.

A note from Sonal

The thing I notice most about people buying for a sister is how much they already know and how little of it they use. You know what she picks up in a shop and puts down again. You know what she has worn since she was nineteen, whether she is fussy about it, which corner of the house she actually sits in. Nobody else choosing a gift for her has any of that - and yet an enormous number of sibling gifts end up being the same safe object everybody else brought.

The second thing is that a sister is probably the most over-gifted person in your life, and from a fairly narrow list: hampers, chocolates, cosmetics sets, something for the house. None of it is bad and all of it is what would have arrived anyway, which is why it carries almost no information. Something modest from outside that list, with two sentences about why you chose it, does more than something expensive inside it. And when she says she does not want anything, she is usually telling the truth - somebody who buys what she wants does not need supply. She needs to be seen.

Two honest things. If she is a serious perfume person, please do not buy her another regular bottle - give her a format she does not own, an attar or a solid perfume or something for the room, because that is the only kind of fragrance gift a collector cannot already have. And if she has a new home, size the gift to the home: our Vaayu is a waterless nebuliser built for roughly a thousand cubic metres, which is a showroom rather than a 3BHK, and we would rather tell you that than sell you one. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with what she already wears and what her place is like. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.

Frequently asked questions

Why is an attar a good gift for somebody moving overseas?

Months of daily use. It is undiluted and applied at two or three pulse points, which matters when a replacement means an international parcel.
