The living room, the main bedroom, and the bathroom guests use — in that order, for ₹3,297 with ₹1,703 change from ₹5,000
The order is fixed: the room with the most sitting hours, then the room you sleep in, then the bathroom guests use. Everything else is fourth at best.
The order
Hours, then sleep, then guests
The three-room core is ₹1,249 + ₹1,299 + ₹749 = ₹3,297. From ₹5,000 that leaves ₹1,703 unspent.
The itemised core
₹3,297, ₹1,703 change
The bathroom is third because it is the cheapest room to do well — a 50ml at ₹749 on two or three reeds, and no more.
Why the bathroom beats a bedroom
₹749 for a whole room
Full ₹5,000 build: three 130ml and one 50ml — ₹1,249 + ₹1,299 + ₹1,299 + ₹749 = ₹4,596, leaving ₹404.
Build A
₹4,596, ₹404 change
Machine build: Sukoon ₹1,899 plus two 130ml at ₹2,548 is ₹4,447, plus ₹299 of Hotel Collection to run it = ₹4,746.
Build B
₹4,746, ₹254 change
A second bedroom nobody sleeps in is not third and not fourth. It is not on the list, whatever the budget.

The living room, the main bedroom, and the bathroom guests use — and it is worth saying plainly that this order is the same in a 500 sq ft 1BHK and a 1,600 sq ft 3BHK, because it is set by hours and by arrivals, not by floor plan. The itemised core is ₹1,249 for the living room, ₹1,299 for the bedroom and ₹749 for the bathroom: ₹3,297, which leaves ₹1,703 of a ₹5,000 budget unspent. Whether you spend that ₹1,703 is a genuinely open question, and the answer for most homes is not yet.
Quick answers — read this first
First: the room with the most sitting hours — usually the living room. One 130ml, six reeds, ₹1,249.

Second: the room you sleep in. One 130ml on four reeds, ₹1,299 for Evening Calm.

Third: the bathroom guests use. One 50ml on two or three reeds, ₹749 — the cheapest whole room in the house.

Total ₹3,297. Change from ₹5,000: ₹1,703, and no obligation to spend it.
The short answer
Short answer: Scent the room with the most sitting hours first, the room you sleep in second, and the bathroom your guests use third. In reed diffusers that is ₹1,249 + ₹1,299 + ₹749 = ₹3,297. The fourth room, whatever it is, is worth noticeably less than the third and should wait until one of these three runs out.
Why the bathroom outranks a second bedroom: Two reasons, both practical. It is the cheapest whole room in the house to do properly — small enough that a ₹749 50ml on two or three reeds is genuinely the right specification rather than a compromise. And it is entered by visitors with a fresh, unadapted nose, which is the only condition under which fragrance is fully perceptible.
The full ₹5,000 version: Three 130ml bottles and one 50ml — ₹1,249 + ₹1,299 + ₹1,299 + ₹749 = ₹4,596, leaving ₹404. The alternative, for a home with a large open living area, is a Sukoon at ₹1,899 plus two 130ml at ₹2,548, which is ₹4,447 — plus ₹299 of Hotel Collection fragrance to run it, so ₹4,746 with ₹254 change.
Straight answer
Which three rooms should I scent first?
1. First: the room with the most sitting hours. In nearly every Indian home that is the living room, and it takes the largest bottle — one 130ml at ₹1,249 on six reeds, running 14–18 weeks at about ₹78 a week of use. It is also usually the room a visitor arrives into, so it does two jobs at once. Place it near the entrance side of the room rather than in a still corner behind the sofa, and it does the second job noticeably better for no extra money.

2. Second: the room you sleep in. One 130ml at ₹1,299 for Evening Calm, on four reeds rather than six. Four is not a saving, it is the correct setting: six in a bedroom is a level most people find too present to sleep in, and it empties the bottle faster. On four reeds a 130ml comfortably reaches the top of its 14–18 week range. This room comes second on hours — eight of them a night, every night — even though you are asleep for most of it.

3. Third: the bathroom your guests use. One 50ml at ₹749 on two or three reeds, and never a 130ml — a small wet room does not need that much liquid and a 130ml on six reeds there is genuinely unpleasant. This is the cheapest complete room in the house, and it outranks a second bedroom because it is entered by people with a fresh nose. Running total: ₹1,249 + ₹1,299 + ₹749 = ₹3,297, with ₹1,703 left from ₹5,000.

4. Fourth is a long way behind third, and often it is nothing. Once those three are done, the next candidates are a study or second bedroom somebody actually sleeps in — worth a bottle — and a dining area, kitchen, passage or spare room, which are worth nothing at all. A passage is a transit space. A kitchen changes its air several times an hour while anybody is cooking, and a passive source cannot charge air moving that fast.

5. Then stop, and let the timing do the work. Three bottles bought on the same day finish within a fortnight of each other, so buy the third a few weeks after the first two if you can bear to. That single delay puts your reorders permanently out of step, which means replacing one bottle at a time for as long as you keep the habit, rather than a ₹3,300 restock twice a year.

Made in India, composed by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer — and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
TL;DR: the living room, the main bedroom, and the bathroom guests use — in that order. That is ₹1,249 + ₹1,299 + ₹749 = ₹3,297, leaving ₹1,703 from ₹5,000. If you want to spend the rest, the full build is three 130ml and one 50ml at ₹4,596 with ₹404 change. The bathroom beats a second bedroom because it is the cheapest whole room to do properly and it is entered by people with a fresh nose.
SOSA reed diffusers, five scents
The first three rooms
Two 130ml and one 50ml ₹3,297 together
The order that works in any Indian home: a 130ml SOSA reed diffuser at ₹1,249 for the living room, a 130ml at ₹1,299 for the bedroom, a 50ml at ₹749 for the bathroom guests use. ₹3,297 in total, ₹1,703 change from ₹5,000, and no obligation to spend it. Composed and made in India, in Pune.

Why this order holds in a 1BHK and a 3BHK alike

The order is set by two variables, and floor area is not one of them. The first is hours of conscious occupancy. A reed diffuser evaporates on the clock whether or not anybody is there, so the return on a bottle is simply how much time somebody spends in its air space. A living room used four hours an evening and a bedroom slept in for eight take almost all of that time in most households, which is why they are first and second regardless of whether the flat is 500 sq ft or 1,600. The second variable is arrivals with a fresh nose. Olfactory adaptation is essentially complete within about twenty minutes, so a resident under-reads their own home constantly and a visitor reads it accurately for the first minute. Rooms that people enter — the front of the living room, the guest bathroom — punch far above their occupancy for that reason alone.

The bathroom placing surprises people, so it is worth defending properly. It is third rather than fourth because of cost per result: at under 40 sq ft it is the one room in the house where the cheapest bottle we sell is also the correct specification rather than a compromise. A 50ml at ₹749 on two or three reeds is exactly right there; a 130ml would be more liquid than the room can use and, on six reeds, genuinely overwhelming in a small wet space. Everywhere else in the house the small bottle is a concession to budget. Here it is the answer. That combination — a complete room, done properly, for ₹749, in a space visitors enter alone and pay attention in — is why it outranks a second bedroom costing nearly twice as much and occupied by nobody.

Two ₹5,000 builds, itemised, and the one to pick

1
BUILD A · ₹4,596
Three 130ml and a 50ml — pick this one
SOSA reed diffusersFour bottles₹4,596Living room 130ml Morning Freshness ₹1,249 · bedroom 130ml Evening Calm ₹1,299 · study or second bedroom 130ml Garden Bloom ₹1,299 · guest bathroom 50ml ₹749. ₹1,249 + ₹1,299 + ₹1,299 + ₹749 = ₹4,596, change ₹404 from ₹5,000. Four rooms, three of them running 14–18 weeks, nothing to switch on and nothing to remember. This is the right build for the large majority of homes.
The check: ₹1,249 + ₹1,299 = ₹2,548 · + ₹1,299 = ₹3,847 · + ₹749 = ₹4,596 · change ₹404.
2
BUILD B · ₹4,746
Sukoon plus two 130ml — only for a big open living area
A Sukoon 500ml ultrasonic at ₹1,899 covering about 270–320 sq ft for an open living-dining run, plus two 130ml at ₹1,249 and ₹1,299 for the two bedrooms — ₹4,447. But the Sukoon runs the water-based Hotel Collection, which is a separate purchase, so add a 15ml at ₹299 and the honest total is ₹4,746, change ₹254. Note what this build loses: the guest bathroom, which build A covers for ₹749. Pick B only if the living space is genuinely past what a reed diffuser holds — over about 200 sq ft, or open-plan across 300. Otherwise you are paying more for one fewer room and something to switch on.
The check: ₹1,899 + ₹1,249 + ₹1,299 = ₹4,447 · + ₹299 fragrance = ₹4,746 · change ₹254.
3
THE THIRD OPTION · ₹3,297
Buy the three rooms and keep ₹1,703
The build nobody asks about is the one that stops at three. ₹1,249 + ₹1,299 + ₹749 = ₹3,297 covers the living room, the bedroom and the guest bathroom completely, and leaves ₹1,703 of a ₹5,000 budget in your account. There is a strong argument for taking it: you do not yet know how these three behave in your home, which of them you will want stronger, or whether the fourth room misses anything. Live with three for a season, then spend the ₹1,703 knowing something. It also stops all your bottles finishing in the same fortnight, which buying four at once guarantees.

Sizing by space — the order written out, room by room

Read this as a queue rather than a shopping list. The first three rows are the purchase; the last two never join the queue at all, whatever the budget grows to.

The order of purchase
Which room, which bottle, and what it costs
Space What it needs How many Cost
First — the living room, 150–220 sq ft, four hours an evening ★ One 130ml on six reeds, placed towards the entrance side so arrivals meet it One 130ml ₹1,249
Second — the main bedroom, 120–160 sq ft, eight hours a night One 130ml on four reeds. Six is too present to sleep in and empties the bottle faster One 130ml ₹1,299
Third — the bathroom guests use, under about 40 sq ft One 50ml on two or three reeds. The cheapest complete room in the house, and never a 130ml One 50ml ₹749
Fourth — a study or second bedroom somebody sleeps in One bottle, bought weeks after the first three so the reorders never collide One, later from ₹749
A dining area open to the living room Usually nothing — no closed door between them means one air space, and the living-room bottle is already in it None ₹0
A kitchen, a passage, or a bedroom nobody sleeps in Nothing. A kitchen exchanges its air several times an hour while anyone is cooking, a passage is a transit space, and an empty room is smelled by nobody None ₹0
A note on all of the above: coverage of up to about 150 sq ft assumes six reeds, a closed room, still air and a standard ceiling. The order above does not change with room size — it is set by hours and by arrivals — but the bottle in each row does, and any space over about 200 sq ft needs two positions or a machine rather than a bigger bottle.

Three rooms, ₹3,297, and ₹1,703 you need not spend
The SOSA principle
The third room is a bathroom, and it is third because it is the cheapest whole room in the house.
Under 40 sq ft is the one place where the ₹749 bottle is the correct specification rather than the affordable one — and it is entered by people whose noses still work.

Reeds, placement, and whether to buy the fourth room at all

Three rooms, three different reed counts. Six in the living room, four in the bedroom, two or three in the bathroom. That is not fine-tuning — it is the difference between a house that reads as considered and one that reads as heavy-handed. Reed count is the only volume control a diffuser has and it moves two things at once: more reeds means a stronger room and a shorter bottle, fewer reeds the reverse. In practice this means the bathroom bottle, on two reeds, will comfortably outlast its stated 6–8 weeks, while the living-room bottle on six sits at the faster end of 14–18. Start each room one reed below where you think it should be and add after forty-eight hours, because reeds need that long to saturate and you cannot un-strengthen a room except by waiting.

Placement is what makes the living-room bottle do two jobs. A diffuser needs gentle air movement to distribute, and it should be met on the way in rather than discovered in a corner. A console or shelf on the entrance side of the living room outperforms a side table behind the sofa by a margin that no upgrade in bottle size would match. Then avoid three specific spots in every room: direct sunlight, which fades the fragrance and heats the oil; the direct path of an AC vent or a fan, which empties the bottle fast and pushes everything against one wall; and bare polished wood, because reed oil marks a finish permanently if the bottle is knocked. A tray or a coaster solves the last one, and both reed and machine fragrances should be kept out of reach of children and pets.

Then treat the fourth room as a question rather than a plan. The honest reason to leave ₹1,703 unspent is that you do not yet know your own home's answer. Live with three bottles for a season and you will discover which room you want stronger, whether the study misses anything, and how fast each bottle actually goes in your ventilation. If the answer turns out to be more weeks rather than more rooms, a 300ml refill at ₹2,399 fills a 130ml roughly twice and is the cheapest way to keep three rooms running. If it turns out to be a fourth room, buy it then — deliberately out of step with the others.

Rooms are not ranked by size. They are ranked by hours, and by who walks in with a fresh nose.

What to buy

Three lines of this table are the first purchase. The fourth and fifth are what you buy later, if the season with three bottles tells you that you need them.

Honest notes before you buy: every figure on this page is the real one and every total adds up — check them. Two things are worth saying plainly before you buy anything. First, coverage claims are steady-state figures: a reed diffuser on six reeds holds a room of up to about 150 sq ft when that room is closed and still. Open a balcony door, run a fan, or raise the ceiling to twelve feet and the same bottle covers noticeably less — not because it is weak, but because coverage is measured in a condition your home may not be in. Second, most homes need fewer units than they buy. A room nobody sits in does not need fragrance; a corridor is a transit space, not a room; and adding reeds to an existing bottle is free, while adding a bottle is not. Reed count is the volume dial — six for full strength, four for a bedroom, two or three for a small bathroom — and it is the first thing to try. SOSA reed diffusers are oil-based and composed and made in India, in Pune; the Sukoon (₹1,899) runs the water-based Hotel Collection (from ₹299) and the two liquids are not interchangeable. Both are phthalate-free and composed to IFRA standards for home diffusion, not for skin or ingestion. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
SOSA Day and Night reed diffuser duo
Two rooms, one purchase
Day & Night Duo ₹1,498
Two 50ml bottles — Morning Freshness and Evening Calm — at ₹1,498 against ₹1,548 bought separately. The saving is small; the real reason to buy it is that it solves two rooms at once with scents chosen to sit beside each other rather than argue.

A note from Sonal

People expect me to say bedroom first because that is where the pretty photographs are taken. It is second. The room with the most sitting hours comes first, and in most Indian homes that is the living room — which also happens to be the room a visitor walks into, so one ₹1,249 bottle does both jobs if you place it towards the entrance rather than behind the sofa.

The one I have to defend is the bathroom at number three. It is not glamorous and it is the smallest room in the house. It is also the only room where the ₹749 bottle is genuinely the right size rather than the affordable one, and it is entered by guests on their own, with a fresh nose, paying attention. Nothing else in the house returns as much for ₹749.

And I would rather you stopped at ₹3,297 than spent all ₹5,000 in one go. Keep the ₹1,703 for a season. You will know far more in three months about which room wants more and which one you have stopped noticing, and buying the fourth bottle later has the useful side effect of keeping your reorders out of step. A portion of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Which three rooms should I scent first in an Indian home?
The room with the most sitting hours — usually the living room — then the room you sleep in, then the bathroom your guests use. In reed diffusers that is ₹1,249 + ₹1,299 + ₹749 = ₹3,297, which leaves ₹1,703 from a ₹5,000 budget. The order is the same in a 1BHK and a 3BHK because it is set by hours and arrivals, not floor area.
Why is the bathroom third and not the second bedroom?
Because it is the cheapest whole room in the house to do properly and the most likely to be noticed. Under about 40 sq ft, a ₹749 50ml on two or three reeds is the correct specification, not a compromise, and guests enter it alone with a fresh nose. A second bedroom nobody sleeps in costs more and is smelled by nobody.
What should I buy with ₹5,000?
Either the three-room core at ₹3,297 and keep ₹1,703, or the full build: three 130ml and one 50ml at ₹1,249 + ₹1,299 + ₹1,299 + ₹749 = ₹4,596, change ₹404. If your living area is open-plan and over about 200 sq ft, the alternative is a Sukoon at ₹1,899 plus two 130ml at ₹2,548, plus ₹299 of Hotel Collection to run it — ₹4,746 with ₹254 change.
Should I buy all three at once?
You can, but buying the third a few weeks later is better. Bottles bought together finish together, so all three go quiet in the same fortnight and the restock arrives as one bill. A few weeks of deliberate delay keeps them permanently out of step and means you replace one bottle at a time from then on.
Does the kitchen ever make the list?
Rarely. A kitchen in use exchanges its air several times an hour — extraction, an open window, the door propped for heat — and a passive reed diffuser cannot charge air that is being replaced that fast. It is not a bottle-size problem and a bigger bottle will not fix it. The money belongs in the three rooms above.
