The short answer is a reed diffuser, sent after the move rather than on possession day. The longer answer is four questions that take about a minute to run through and that change the answer materially - because the size of the place, whether anybody else is coordinating, and how well you know the person each point in a different direction.
Quick answers — read this first
What should I gift for someone's first home? A reed diffuser at Rs 749 to Rs 849, sent after the move rather than on possession day. A new flat has no smell of its own for a few weeks, and whatever fills that gap stays attached to the period.

What if the flat is small or the budget is tight? A pair of coconut-soy candles at Rs 379 each is a complete gift with a note. A single candle is a token; two plus three sentences is not.

Should I buy something practical instead? Almost never. The practical list was bought or decided months before anybody said congratulations, so anything from it is a duplicate or a worse version.
The short answer
Short answer: For a first home, the default answer is a reed diffuser at Rs 749 to Rs 849, sent after the move rather than on possession day, because a new flat has no smell of its own for the first few weeks and whatever fills that gap tends to stay attached to the period. Four checks refine it: whether the move has happened yet, how large the place is - a flat takes a reed, a large open-plan home takes the Megh at Rs 3,499, and the Vaayu at Rs 11,999 is commercial scale - whether you know their taste, and whether a group gift is already being coordinated, in which case your gift should cover atmosphere rather than function.
The pick: a SOSA return gift - consumable, no shelf space, from ₹299 a head.
Bulk: 10 to 200+ pieces quoted on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. Rates are not published here.
Congratulations gifts - at a glanceNo ledger here - nobody owes anybody, so generosity costs them nothingEverybody congratulates for 48 hours, then it stops deadA first only happens once - the second one gets nothingFrom ₹299 · homes, cars, books, awards, goals
A congratulations gift is not settling a debt - nobody owes anybody here, which is why generosity creates no obligation in return. Its job is to mark what somebody did, ideally after the first two days when everybody else has already moved on. Workplace recipients may still fall under gift policies that cap what they can accept, so check before sending. Gifts start at Rs 299, and anything can be checked on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 first.
Straight answer
What should I gift someone for their first home?
Default answer: a reed diffuser at ₹749 to ₹849, sent after the move, not on possession day. Then four checks. 1. Has the move happened? If not, wait for week two or three - on possession day nothing is unpacked and there is nowhere to put anything. 2. How big is the place? A flat takes a reed; a large open-plan home takes the Megh at ₹3,499; the Vaayu at ₹11,999 is commercial scale at roughly 1000m³. 3. Do you know their taste? If not, go clean - Morning Freshness ₹749 or Mountain Breeze ₹849. 4. Is there a group gift? Then take atmosphere and let the group take function. Smaller: two coconut-soy candles at ₹379 each. Ask on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531.
A reed diffuser, after the move. Then four checks that change the answer. From Rs 379.
If you want one answer for a mixed guest list: hanging car perfume from ₹449, because almost every adult guest drives and almost nobody has done anything about their car. Bulk quantities quoted on WhatsApp.
from ₹299

Four questions, and the order matters

Here is the default before the refinements, because most people want a decision rather than a survey. Give a reed diffuser at seven hundred and forty-nine to eight hundred and forty-nine rupees, and send it after the move rather than on possession day. That answer is right for the majority of cases, for two reasons. The first is a physical fact with a short shelf life. A newly handed-over flat has no smell of its own: for the first few weeks it smells of paint, cardboard, packing tape and new fittings, which is a building site in its last week rather than a home, and within about six weeks cooking, laundry, bedding and routine will have closed that gap permanently. Whatever is deliberately put into that window tends to become associated with the period, and people very commonly report exactly that years later. This is a widely reported experience rather than a mechanism this shop is claiming, and nothing here is a scientific or medical statement - but it is dependable enough to make the fit unusually tight. The second reason is about what a reed asks of the recipient, which is nothing. A minute to set up - open, pour, insert - and then two to three months with no flame, no socket, no switch, no water and no maintenance. In a flat where nothing is unpacked and both people are running on lists, that is the difference between a gift that works and a gift that waits. Now the four questions, in order, because the earlier ones override the later ones. Question one: has the move actually happened? This catches more people than it should. Possession day looks like the moment - there are keys, there are photographs, there is a doorway to stand in - but practically it is the worst day of the whole process to receive anything, because the flat is full of cartons, nothing is unpacked, and a gift arriving then gets set down in a corner and rediscovered a fortnight later having missed its own occasion. Wait until the beds are up and the kitchen roughly works, which is usually week two or three. That delay has a second advantage that has nothing to do with logistics: congratulations for a property purchase do not taper, they stop. There are about forty-eight hours of messages after the announcement and then by day four the group chat has moved on, while the new owners are in the unglamorous middle of it. A gift landing there arrives into silence, with nothing to be compared against, and reads completely differently from one that arrived in the wave. Question two: how big is the place, and is it divided into rooms or open? This is the question that changes the product rather than the wrapping, and it is worth asking the person directly if you do not know. A standard one or two bedroom flat is well served by a single reed diffuser in a central shared space. A larger flat benefits from two reeds, or from the 130ml size which starts at one thousand two hundred and forty-nine rupees. A three bedroom home where somebody specifically wants a machine suits the Sukoon at one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine rupees, a five-hundred-millilitre ultrasonic with a timer. A genuinely large open-plan home, where living, dining and kitchen are one connected volume, is where the Megh at three thousand four hundred and ninety-nine rupees is the right machine. And the honest limit at the top: the SOSA Vaayu at eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees is a waterless nebuliser built for roughly one thousand cubic metres, which is commercial scale - a lobby, a showroom, a restaurant floor. A 1,200 square foot flat with ten-foot ceilings is about three hundred and forty cubic metres, roughly a third of that, so unless the home is a villa, a farmhouse or genuinely enormous, it is oversized, and an oversized diffuser is uncomfortable rather than luxurious. Every machine should be given with something to run in it: the water-based Hotel Collection concentrate at two hundred and ninety-nine rupees for fifteen millilitres, nine hundred and ninety-nine for a hundred or one thousand seven hundred and ninety-nine for three hundred, used at three to six drops per tank and ultrasonic-only. It is not reed oil, the systems do not interchange, and reed oil must never go into a machine. Question three: do you know their taste? If you do not - a colleague, a neighbour, a cousin you see twice a year - choose clean rather than decorative. Morning Freshness at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees and Mountain Breeze at eight hundred and forty-nine are the registers almost nobody objects to, and a new home is the one setting where something that simply smells fresh is close to universally welcome. If you do know them, spend that knowledge: Evening Calm at seven hundred and ninety-nine suits somebody who reads at night, Garden Bloom at seven hundred and ninety-nine somebody who has liked florals for twenty years, Fresh Brew at eight hundred and forty-nine somebody who takes coffee seriously. Choosing the specific one correctly is what separates a gift from a purchase - but only do it if you actually know, because the wrong specific choice is worse than the right generic one. Question four: is a group gift already happening? Friends and colleagues usually coordinate, and a pooled budget almost always buys something functional, because function is the only category a group agrees on quickly. If that is under way, your individual gift should deliberately not be functional. Take the atmosphere job, which nobody assigns and which the new owner will not buy for themselves for a year or more, and send it separately so it is not absorbed into the collective delivery. Two coconut-soy candles at three hundred and seventy-nine rupees each is a complete gift at seven hundred and fifty-eight with a written note, and a much better use of the remaining budget than adding to somebody else's appliance: lead-free eco wick, phthalate-free, hand-poured in small batches in Pune, fifteen to eighteen hours, in Misty Mornings with Nilgiri orchid and sun-ripened nectarine, Bookshop with cedarwood, sage and lemon, Evening Walks with frankincense and tonka, or Cozy Corner with spiced pear and golden honey. Note that a single candle reads as a token while two plus three sentences does not, and wax melts at four hundred and seventy-four rupees need a ceramic burner at five hundred and sixty-nine, so give both or neither. Two questions people ask that are not on the list, and the honest answers. Should I give something practical? Almost never. The practical list was bought or decided in the six months before anybody said congratulations, and anything from it is a duplicate or a worse version of what they chose. Should I give money? It is useful, and it is also unpointable-at in ten years, so give it with a small object rather than instead of one. And on how much: a congratulations gift repays nothing, so no obligation is created and the usual proportion anxiety does not apply - the ceiling is set by the relationship rather than by the size of the flat. If you want a personal gift as well as a household one, a 12ml alcohol-free attar at three hundred and seventy-nine to three hundred and ninety-nine rupees is undiluted perfume oil with no alcohol carrier that stays within an arm's length rather than projecting, and the Attar Trio at one thousand and fifty-five rupees hands the choice back where taste is unknown. Last, the note. Write about the person rather than the property. Everybody who walks in will admire the flat; almost nobody will mention the years of saving, the application that was refused, or the stretch where it looked like it would not happen.

1
Question one
Has the move actually happened?
Possession day looks like the moment - keys, photographs, a doorway - and is the worst day to receive anything, because nothing is unpacked and there is nowhere to put it.
Tip: Week two or three. Which is also after the forty-eight hours of congratulations have stopped dead.
2
Questions two and three
How big, and do you know their taste?
A flat takes a reed, a large open-plan home takes the Megh at ₹3,499, and the Vaayu at ₹11,999 is commercial scale. If you do not know their taste, go clean.
3
Question four
Is a group gift already happening?
A pooled budget buys function, because that is what a group agrees on fast. Take the atmosphere job instead and send it separately so it is not absorbed into the delivery.
Tip: Two candles at ₹758 with a written note is a complete gift, not a shortfall.
The SOSA principle
The practical list was bought or decided in the six months before anybody said congratulations. Anything from it now is a duplicate or a worse version of what they chose.
Money is useful and unpointable-at in ten years. Give it with a small object rather than instead of one.

The answers
Scent Why it suits the mood
Default · reed diffuser ₹749 to ₹849 Sent after the move. A minute to set up, then two to three months with nothing to remember - which is what a flat full of cartons can actually accommodate.
Budget or a group gift already · two candles ₹758 A complete gift with three sentences written down. One candle is a token; two plus a note is not.
Big open-plan home · Megh ₹3,499 Six litres for one connected living volume. The Sukoon at ₹1,899 for a 3BHK, always with the ₹299 concentrate it runs on.
Something personal as well · attar ₹379 · Trio ₹1,055 Undiluted oil, no alcohol carrier, stays close rather than projecting. The Trio hands the choice back where you do not know their taste.

Related: a first home, a reed diffuser for a first home and the Vaayu for a genuinely large home. By person: a friend, a sister, a brother, a daughter, a son and a couple. A note from Sonal

There is a pattern I noticed years before we sold anything, and it is the reason this section exists. Somebody achieves something that took them years - the flat, the first car bought outright, the manuscript finished at last - and for about forty-eight hours the phone does not stop. Then it stops completely. The achievement took three years; the celebrating took a weekend, and then everybody went back to their own lives, which is not unkind, it is just how attention works.

Which means a gift arriving in week two or three lands in an empty field. That is the single most useful thing on any of these pages and it costs nothing. The second is that a congratulations gift is not repaying anything: nobody owes anybody here, so there is no ledger to balance and no risk of over-gifting into an obligation. You are free to be as generous as the relationship allows. And write the note about what they did, not about how you feel - name the four years, the thing they gave up, the draft they rewrote eleven times.

Two honest things. If somebody has just bought a new car, do not buy them something to cover the smell of it - most new owners like it, it fades on its own, and a fragrance is better introduced a few weeks later in a restrained register. And if somebody has bought a new home, size the gift to the home: our Vaayu is a waterless nebuliser built for spaces of roughly a thousand cubic metres, which is a hotel lobby rather than a three-bedroom flat, and we would rather tell you that than sell you one. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with what they achieved and what their place is like, and we will say honestly if we think fragrance is the wrong call. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.
