Why do bottles fail in open spaces? Because a diffuser works on the air immediately around it, and an open volume has no boundary to hold that air in place.
What does scenting the route mean? Placing sources at the door, at the turn into the space and beside the seating - the three points where people actually pause.
You are not scenting the space - you are scenting the route through it
Every product in this category was designed with a room in mind. A reed diffuser evaporates into the air immediately around it, and the reason that works is that a room holds air still long enough for the concentration to build. Remove the walls and the premise disappears: in a connected living, dining, kitchen and hallway of two thousand square feet there is nothing to build a concentration against, so the bottle produces a small halo around itself and the rest of the space is unaffected. People respond to this by buying a bigger bottle, then two bigger bottles, then concluding that home fragrance does not work in their house. It works fine. It was asked to fill something that has no sides. There are two honest ways forward and they are different in kind rather than in price. The first is to change the target, and it is free. Nobody experiences a large open space as a volume. They experience it as a sequence: they come in through a door, they turn a corner or pass a threshold into the main space, they cross it, and they settle somewhere - a sofa, a dining chair, a stool at a counter. That sequence is a route, and a route is a set of points rather than a volume, which is exactly the geometry a bottle can handle. So place sources at the points where people are slowest and closest. The entrance first, because it is where the impression is formed and where somebody stands still for fifteen seconds taking off shoes; a bottle on a hall shelf or console does more for how a house reads than anything in the middle of the room. Second, the threshold into the open space - the turn, the change of level, the edge of the rug, wherever the space announces itself. Third, beside the seating, at seating level, on a side table rather than a high cabinet, because that is where people spend hours. Three bottles placed on that logic produce a house that smells lovely to anybody moving through it, which is the actual experience, while three bottles arranged decoratively in the middle of a large space produce three small halos nobody visits. Two placement rules make the difference between this working and not. Keep sources out of moving air - away from open balcony doors, windows, and the airflow of a fan or air conditioner - because a bottle in a draught is carried away as fast as it evaporates and reads strong only at the sticks. And keep them low, because fragrance rises and an open space usually has height; anything placed on top of a tall unit begins in the part of the volume nobody occupies. The five registers, for choosing by point rather than by preference: Morning Freshness at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees for fifty millilitres and one thousand two hundred and forty-nine for one hundred and thirty is Malabar lemon with peppermint and eucalyptus, which reads clean and is the best entrance choice because clean is what a first breath should be, and it is also right near an open kitchen. Mountain Breeze at eight hundred and forty-nine and one thousand three hundred and forty-nine is Himalayan pine, sage and cedar, dry and unsweet, good at a threshold or in a space with wood and stone. Fresh Brew at eight hundred and forty-nine and one thousand three hundred and forty-nine is Coorg coffee with Kerala vanilla, which suits a dining end. Garden Bloom at seven hundred and ninety-nine and one thousand two hundred and ninety-nine is British rose with night-blooming jasmine, and Evening Calm at the same is lavender with chamomile, both better in bounded rooms than in the open space itself. A duo set at one thousand four hundred and ninety-eight to two thousand five hundred and ninety-eight rupees covers two of the three points and is the neatest gift. The second way forward is a different mechanism, and it is the only one that genuinely holds an open volume rather than working around it. The SOSA Vaayu at eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees does not rely on a boundary at all. It is a waterless cold-air nebuliser: pressurised air breaks undiluted oil into a dry nano-mist fine enough to stay suspended and drift with whatever air the building is already moving - the air conditioning, a ceiling fan, the convection of a tall space - so instead of a concentration around a source there is one field across the whole connected volume. Coverage is up to a thousand cubic metres, stated as about two thousand to three thousand square feet, and it reaches the parts of an open plan that have no surface at all: the hallway, the stairwell, the landing, the void above a double-height section. No water, no heat, no dampness, no oily film. Four hundred millilitre tank lasting up to around seventy-five days a fill. One, four, eight and twenty-four hour windows with day selection and adjustable intensity from a Bluetooth app or its onboard buttons. Under thirty-eight decibels, five watts, nine hundred grams, freestanding on a shelf or wall and HVAC mountable, auto-stop and key lock, CE, RoHS and SGS, made in India, four one hundred millilitre hotel-inspired oils included, and refills of waterless nebuliser oil at one thousand and forty-nine rupees for a hundred grams or one thousand eight hundred and forty-nine for three hundred - never the water-based Hotel Collection at two hundred and ninety-nine rupees, which is a separate system for ultrasonic diffusers. Three conditions on it. It needs air the building is moving, so a house with ducted cooling or a stairwell is ideal, ceiling fans on low work, and a space standing open to a garden or balcony provides nothing to ride - which means scheduling it for the closed hours rather than continuously. It should be placed in the circulation rather than a corner, with intensity started low. And below roughly two thousand square feet of connected volume it over-scents, in which case the route approach with bottles is not a compromise but the right answer. One closing note: an open plan usually contains the kitchen, which means cooking and fragrance share the air. Ventilate while cooking and scent afterwards, because fragrance is a finishing touch and never a fix.
An open space has no edges, and fragrance needs something to work against

Versailles
The Vaayu is the most expensive thing we make and we turn down more orders for it than for anything else in the range. Not because we do not want to sell it - because most homes do not need it. It covers up to a thousand cubic metres, roughly two to three thousand square feet, and that is a villa, a penthouse, a large open-plan flat or a house with a double-height room. An ordinary 2BHK is not that, and in an ordinary 2BHK a reed diffuser at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees does the job better than eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees of machine would. So the question we ask is never what somebody spent on their house. It is how many cubic metres of air are in it.
The second thing we say, and almost nobody expects it, is wait a few weeks. A brand-new home smells of paint, varnish, polish, cement and new wood, and those are not smells to cover - they need open windows and time, and they go on their own. Give the machine at the housewarming by all means, but tell them the scenting starts once the building has finished smelling of being built. It is the same rule we apply to a new car, for the same reason: adding fragrance to a smell that is fading anyway is how a good product gets blamed for a bad result.
Two honest limits. Reed diffusers do not fail in large homes, they simply do not reach - a diffuser on a console table scents the area around that console table, which is not a fault, it is physics, and several of them is a real alternative to one machine. And there are two machines above the Vaayu, the Angaan and the Meenar, which are HVAC units for showrooms and hotel floors rather than houses - so if a home is genuinely far beyond three thousand square feet, message us rather than assuming more money solves it.
