Amber is the heart of both the St. Regis and W Hotels signatures - but the two wear their warmth very differently. The St. Regis softens amber with violet and woods into refined, old-world glamour; the W Hotels lifts it with citrus and pepper into something bold, bright and modern. One is a velvet drawing-room, the other a stylish lobby bar. Here's an honest comparison of these two amber hotel scents, to help you choose.
Quick answers — read this first
St. Regis or W Hotels scent - which amber for a bedroom? Both are warm amber hotel scents, but they wear the warmth very differently. The St. Regis-inspired scent (amber, violet, woods) softens amber with powdery violet and woods for refined, warm, old-world glamour - the most classically luxurious and elegant of the two, a velvet-drawing-room feel. The W Hotels-inspired scent (citrus, pepper, amber) lifts amber with bright citrus and a spark of pepper for a bold, modern, energising lobby-bar warmth - the most contemporary and extroverted. So choose the St. Regis if you want warm, elegant, glamorous, romantic amber (especially lovely in cooler months and evenings); choose the W Hotels if you want a bold, fresh-yet-warm, modern amber with personality. St. Regis leans classic and refined; W Hotels leans modern and lively. Both are amber-based, so keep them soft in a bedroom - especially the bolder W Hotels. SOSA's Hotel Collection offers both as water-based scents (from Rs 299) for ultrasonic diffusers or SOSA Vaayu. If you love old-world glamour, go St. Regis; if you love modern energy, go W Hotels. These hotel-inspired scents are independent interpretations, not affiliated with the hotels named. Alcohol-free, made in India.
What's the difference between the St. Regis and W Hotels scents? Both are amber-based, but the St. Regis softens amber with violet and woods for refined, old-world glamour - warm, elegant and romantic. The W Hotels lifts amber with citrus and pepper for a bold, modern, energising warmth - fresh-yet-warm and lively. St. Regis is classic and elegant; W Hotels is modern and extroverted.
Which is bolder, St. Regis or W Hotels? The W Hotels-inspired scent is bolder - bright citrus and a spark of pepper make it the most energising and extroverted of the hotel scents. The St. Regis is warmer and more refined, its amber softened by violet into elegant, old-world glamour. So W Hotels for bold and modern, St. Regis for warm and elegant.
The short answer
Short answer: both are amber scents; St. Regis softens it with violet and woods for old-world glamour, W Hotels lifts it with citrus and pepper for bold modern energy. St. Regis for elegance, W Hotels for personality. Both from Rs 299.
The pick: a SOSA reed diffuser (from ₹749) inside the cabinet, or a mist diffuser with the Hotel Collection (from ₹299) for the entrance.
Shop: SOSA reed diffusers and the Hotel Collection scenting range.
A shoe cabinet smells because damp, worn shoes breed odour-causing bacteria in an enclosed space. The lasting fix is two-part: deodorise the shoes at the source, then add a continuous fragrance so the cabinet and entrance smell fresh. A reed or mist diffuser does the second part quietly.

A great place to start for a shoe cabinet is Morning Freshness - a clean lemon, mint and eucalyptus reed that stands safely inside the cabinet, at ₹749, no plug and no flame. For the open entrance, add a mist diffuser with the Hotel Collection from ₹299.
Amber is the heart of both, but they wear it very differently. Here's the St. Regis vs the W Hotels, and how to choose.
1
The St. Regis: old-world glamour
Amber, violet, woods
The St. Regis-inspired scent takes warm amber and softens it with powdery violet and gentle woods - and the result is refined, old-world glamour. The violet lends the amber a powdery, romantic, vintage-elegant quality, so the warmth reads as sophisticated and luxurious rather than simply cosy - a velvet drawing-room, a classic grand hotel of the golden age. It's the most classically elegant of the amber scents: warm, enveloping, romantic and quietly glamorous. It's the choice if you want a bedroom that feels warm, refined and beautifully luxurious, with a nostalgic, romantic depth - especially gorgeous in cooler months and the evening. Where the W Hotels is lively and modern, the St. Regis is elegant and timeless. SOSA's hotel-inspired scents are independent interpretations created by SOSA. SOSA is not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with the hotels named, whose names are trademarks of their respective owners, used only to describe the scent style.
Tip: the St. Regis softens amber with powdery violet and woods - refined, warm, romantic, old-world glamour; classic and elegant.
2
The W Hotels: bold and modern
Citrus, pepper, amber
The W Hotels-inspired scent takes the same warm amber base but lifts it with bright citrus and a spark of pepper - turning the warmth bold, fresh and modern. The citrus adds a zesty, energising top and the pepper a warm, spicy edge, so the scent reads as stylish, contemporary and extroverted - a lobby bar rather than a drawing-room. It's the most energising of the hotel scents: lively up top, warm underneath, with real personality. It's the choice if you want a bedroom with a bold, modern, characterful edge - fresh-yet-warm rather than purely cosy - and it's lovely for someone whose taste runs contemporary and confident. Because it's the boldest of the seven, keep it especially soft in a bedroom, so it stays glamorous rather than sharp.

How to choose
Classic or contemporary
Both share a warm amber heart, so the choice is about character. Choose the St. Regis if you love warm, elegant, romantic, old-world glamour - a refined, timeless, classically luxurious room. Choose the W Hotels if you love bold, modern, energising warmth with personality - a stylish, contemporary room. Think about your taste and season: the St. Regis suits classic, elegant, romantic bedrooms and cooler months; the W Hotels suits modern, confident ones and is lovely for a fresh-warm edge. Keep both soft (amber is rich, and the W Hotels is bold), diffusing gently and consistently on a clean base in an ultrasonic diffuser (Boond ₹799, Sukoon ₹1,799, Megh ₹3,499) or Vaayu (₹11,999). Both from the Hotel Collection (from ₹299). Water-based, made in India.
Tip: choose the St. Regis for elegant old-world glamour, the W Hotels for bold modern energy - keep both soft, the W Hotels especially.
The SOSA principle
The St. Regis softens amber into refined old-world glamour; the W Hotels lifts it into bold modern energy - two very different amber bedroom scents.

The SOSA shoe cabinet & entryway edit
Whichever you choose, every SOSA product here is alcohol-free and made in small batches in India. Reeds need no flame, plug or water and are safe to stand inside a cabinet; the ultrasonic mist diffusers use a water-based Hotel Collection fragrance in the open entrance, and the Vaayu machine runs waterless on a timer. Match the product to your space, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the full edit.
The SOSA shoe cabinet & entryway edit
From a reed inside the cabinet to a whole-foyer machine - matched to your space
Waterless cold-air machine, Bluetooth app + timer - a signature scent across the whole entrance, hands-off
₹11,999
A note on the two systems: SOSA reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil, need no electricity, and are safe to stand inside a shoe cabinet (no flame, no heat). The Hotel Collection is a separate water-based fragrance made for ultrasonic (mist) diffusers used in the open entrance - this is not reed diffuser oil, and the two are not interchangeable. A diffuser scents the cabinet and entrance air; it does not deodorise the inside of a shoe, so treat strong shoe odour at the source first. SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and is not affiliated with any hotel brand. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal
Nobody actually wants a nice-smelling shoe cabinet. What they want is an entrance that does not smell of shoes - a home that greets you, and your guests, with something fresh instead of that first embarrassing whiff. Those are two different jobs.
The first job is at the source: shoes smell because sweat and damp let bacteria grow, so air them, dry them, rotate pairs, and use a little baking soda or a shoe deodoriser inside. The second job is the air: once the shoes are handled, a continuous fragrance keeps the cabinet and the entrance smelling lovely. A reed diffuser is small and safe enough to stand right inside the cabinet; a mist diffuser makes the whole entrance smell like a good hotel.
One honest note: a diffuser scents the space around the shoes, not the inside of the shoe itself. If a pair really reeks, deal with the pair first - the fragrance is there to keep a clean entrance welcoming, not to sit on top of a problem. Made in small batches in India; a part of every order supports girl-child education.
Frequently asked questions
St. Regis or W Hotels scent - which amber for a bedroom?
Both are warm amber hotel scents worn very differently. The St. Regis-inspired scent (amber, violet, woods) softens amber with powdery violet and woods for refined, warm, old-world glamour - the most classically elegant, a velvet-drawing-room feel. The W Hotels-inspired scent (citrus, pepper, amber) lifts amber with bright citrus and a spark of pepper for a bold, modern, energising lobby-bar warmth. Choose the St. Regis for warm, elegant, romantic amber; the W Hotels for bold, modern amber with personality. Keep both soft, especially the W Hotels. SOSA's Hotel Collection offers both (from Rs 299). Independent hotel-inspired interpretations, not affiliated with the hotels named.
What's the difference between the St. Regis and W Hotels scents?
Both are amber-based, but they treat the amber oppositely. The St. Regis softens amber with powdery violet and woods for refined, warm, romantic, old-world glamour - classic and elegant. The W Hotels lifts amber with bright citrus and a spark of pepper for a bold, modern, energising warmth - fresh-yet-warm and extroverted. So the St. Regis is a timeless, glamorous, drawing-room amber, while the W Hotels is a contemporary, lively, lobby-bar amber. Both are warm at heart; the difference is elegant-classic versus bold-modern.
Which is bolder, St. Regis or W Hotels?
The W Hotels-inspired scent is bolder - bright citrus and a spark of pepper make it the most energising and extroverted of all the hotel scents, lively up top over its warm amber base. The St. Regis is warmer and more refined, its amber softened by powdery violet into elegant, romantic, old-world glamour. So for bold and modern with real personality, choose the W Hotels; for warm, elegant and timeless, choose the St. Regis. Because the W Hotels is the boldest of the seven, keep it especially soft in a bedroom.
Which amber scent is better for winter?
Both suit winter beautifully, since amber's warmth is especially welcome in cooler months, but the St. Regis-inspired scent is the more classically cosy-glamorous winter choice - warm, powdery, romantic and enveloping, like a velvet drawing-room. The W Hotels-inspired scent also warms a winter room but with a fresher, brighter, more modern edge from its citrus and pepper, so it feels a little livelier and less purely snug. For deep, elegant winter warmth choose the St. Regis; for a warm-but-fresh modern winter scent, the W Hotels.
How do I keep these amber scents from being too strong?
Keep them soft, since amber is rich and the W Hotels is the boldest of the seven. Use fewer drops than you would for a light white tea, diffuse gently and continuously on a clean base, and go lighter still in a small room. The St. Regis, softened by violet, is a little more forgiving, while the W Hotels, with its bright citrus-pepper lift, benefits most from restraint so it reads as glamorous rather than sharp. Lean into both in cooler months and evenings, when their warmth is most welcome, and keep the intensity low.

Facts verified July 2026: Shoe and shoe-cabinet odour is caused by bacteria that grow on the sweat and moisture in worn shoes, made worse by damp, poor ventilation and an enclosed cabinet; it is best reduced at the source - airing and drying shoes, rotating pairs, using baking soda, cedar or a shoe deodoriser inside, and keeping the cabinet ventilated and dry - before any fragrance is added. SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free fragrance oil with natural reeds (no flame, no electricity, no water), safe to stand inside a cabinet, from ₹749. SOSA ultrasonic (mist) diffusers - Boond (300ml, ₹799), Sukoon (500ml, ₹1,799) and Megh (6L, ₹3,499) - use a water-based Hotel Collection fragrance (from ₹299, sold separately) and are used in the open entrance; this is not reed diffuser oil. SOSA Vaayu is a waterless cold-air machine with Bluetooth app and timer, around 1000m³ coverage, ₹11,999. A diffuser scents the surrounding air, not the interior of a shoe. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. Cruelty-free, vegan, made in India. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live collection pages.

St. Regis vs W Hotels: Which Amber Bedroom Scent?
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles7 min readUpdated August 2026
The W Hotels lifts amber with citrus and pepper for a bold, modern, energising warmth - fresh-yet-warm and lively. St. Regis is classic and elegant; W Hotels is modern and extroverted.
