Is it worth sending anything for just one bad day? Sometimes yes, often no, and the honest test is whether you would have sent a message anyway. If you would, send the message - that is the part that is about the day. A small parcel afterwards is a fine addition and a poor replacement, because it is the one part of this that does not belong to today.
How much should I spend on a bad-day gift? ₹379 to ₹500. The smallest band in the range, because the size of a gift is read as a statement about how serious you think the problem is. Spending ₹1,500 on a bad day tells somebody you think they are in crisis, which is usually not what they told you and not what they want reflected back.
What a day changes about the decision
Everything on this page follows from the length of the thing you are responding to. A week has room for an object in it. A day does not, and that single fact changes the budget, the product and the order you do things in.
So invert the usual order. Send the sentence first, while the day is still the thing being discussed. Then, if you want, send something small that lands afterwards as a second, quieter signal - I was still thinking about it the next day - which is honestly a nicer thing to say than anything that could have arrived on the day itself.
So this is the one page in this guide where the ceiling is genuinely low: ₹379 to about ₹500. A single candle rather than the ₹699 duo, a 3ml attar rather than the 6ml, one car bottle at ₹449 to ₹549 rather than the ₹899 combo. The smallness is not stinginess and it will not be read as stinginess. It is proportion, and proportion is the entire skill being tested here.
And if it is the second of those, the gift is the smaller part of what you should be doing. Ring them. A parcel sits alongside showing up and never in place of it, and where somebody is dealing with much more than a hard day the person who helps may need to be a professional. Nothing here is advice about anybody's health.
- Send the message now. It is the only part of this that is about today.
- Then pick something small: Rs 379 to Rs 500 is the right band for one day.
- Buy the single, not the duo. Proportion is what is being read here.
- Expect no reply and say so. A bad day has no spare energy in it.
The smallest things SOSA makes, and what each one costs
At this size the range is short and the prices are exact. The cheapest real standalone gifts SOSA makes are a 3ml attar at ₹379 - Adaa at ₹379, Ameeri ₹385, Mastani ₹389, Nawaab ₹399, all alcohol-free and rolled on rather than sprayed - and a candle at ₹399 in Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Misty Mornings or Evening Walks, hand-poured in small batches at about 15 to 18 hours of burn time. After that come car hanging refills at ₹399 to ₹429, which are only a gift for somebody who already owns the hanging bottle, and then car fragrance from ₹449 in nine scents, each as a mild hanging format or a stronger spray at the same price. Two things that look cheaper are not gifts at all: the ₹299 Hotel Collection bottle is fuel for an ultrasonic machine, and wax melts at ₹499 need a ₹599 ceramic burner. Both are components, and sending a component on a bad day is worse than sending nothing.
| The option | Who it suits, and where it fails |
|---|---|
| A message, nothing bought · ₹0 | Top of the table honestly, because it is the only item here that exists inside the day you are responding to. Two lines that name the actual thing, ask nothing and make clear no reply is needed. It fails only if you want something to land later as a second signal - in which case send the message anyway and add one of the three below. |
| A candle · ₹399 | The default object at this size. Hand-poured, about 15 to 18 hours, used up in an evening or two rather than kept. It reads as a small, finite thing rather than as a gift with an agenda, which is the correct register for one bad day. It fails for somebody who does not light things, and the ₹699 duo is already past the proportion this occasion carries. |
| A 3ml attar · ₹379 to ₹399 | The smallest serious fragrance gift there is, and the most specific if you can name what they already wear. Adaa is bergamot, green cardamom and jasmine sambac; Mastani is night jasmine and damask rose. It fails when you are guessing, because a worn scent that misses becomes a long, polite problem out of proportion to one bad afternoon. |
| Car fragrance · ₹449 to ₹549 | Right when the bad day happened largely in traffic, which is more often than people admit. Nine scents, mild hanging or strong spray at the same price. Practical rather than sentimental, which suits a friendship where a gift would otherwise feel like a lot. It fails if they do not drive, and the ₹899 combos are too much for a single day. |
One caution on the very bottom of the range. It is tempting, on a small occasion, to reach for the cheapest line on the price list, but the ₹299 Hotel Collection bottle is machine fuel and does nothing without an ultrasonic diffuser, and wax melts at ₹499 are unusable without a ₹599 burner. A component arriving as a gift creates a small errand, which is exactly the wrong thing to hand somebody at the end of a bad day. If the budget is genuinely ₹400, the ₹399 candle and the ₹379 attar are the two real answers, and there is no shame in either being the whole gift.
The SOSA gifting range
Two questions settle almost every one of these, and neither is about price. First: how much energy does this ask of them? A candle is lit and that is the whole interaction; a reed diffuser asks nothing at all; a machine asks to be filled, plugged in and remembered, which is the wrong thing to hand somebody who is already running on empty. Second: can you name something they already like? If yes, an attar is accurate. If no, buy for the room instead, because a room has no opinion and a person does. Then keep the number low - on a hard week the size of a gift is a demand, not a kindness.
| Gift | What it is | Who it suits | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| SOSA scented candles | Hand-poured, small batches | Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Misty Mornings and Evening Walks at about 15 to 18 hours of burn time; duos at about 30 to 36 hours | from ₹399 |
| SOSA attars | Alcohol-free roll-on oil | Adaa, Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml - the smallest serious fragrance gift there is | from ₹379 |
| SOSA reed diffusers | Passive home fragrance | Five scents in 50ml and 130ml, nothing to plug in or switch off, about 6 to 10 weeks | from ₹749 |
| SOSA Attar Trio | Pack of three attars | Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani in one box - for when you cannot name a scent they wear | from ₹1,055 |
| SOSA wax melts | Flameless, needs a burner | Scented wax for a ceramic or electric burner - only for somebody who already owns one, or buy the burner too | from ₹499 |
| SOSA car fragrance | Hanging or spray | Nine scents, each in a mild hanging format and a stronger spray at the same price | from ₹449 |
| SOSA reed duo sets | Two reeds in one box | Day & Night, Fresh & Grounded and Warmth & Bloom - the larger home gift, for a real occasion | from ₹1,498 |
Three different fluids run through this range and none of them is interchangeable. Reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil. The SOSA ultrasonics - Boond ₹899, Sukoon ₹1,899 and Megh ₹5,999 - run the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299. Vaayu and Safar run waterless nebulising oil, so the ₹299 water-based bottle never goes into either of them. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
- Attars - Adaa ₹379 / ₹669 / ₹1,149, Ameeri ₹385 / ₹679 / ₹1,165, Mastani ₹389 / ₹685 / ₹1,179 and Nawaab ₹399 / ₹699 / ₹1,199 in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml. The Attar Trio is ₹1,055, ₹1,859 or ₹3,189.
- Reed diffusers - Morning Freshness ₹749, Garden Bloom and Evening Calm ₹799, Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew ₹849 in 50ml; 130ml from ₹1,249. They last about 6 to 10 weeks. Duo sets from ₹1,498.
- Car fragrance - nine scents from ₹449 to ₹549, each in a mild hanging format and a stronger spray at the same price, with 50ml sprays at ₹1,499 and saver combos at ₹899 to ₹949. Safar is ₹3,999, or ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios.
- Candles and wax melts - Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Misty Mornings and Evening Walks at ₹399 for approximately 15 to 18 hours, or ₹699 for a two-candle duo at approximately 30 to 36 hours. Woodenwick candles in jasmine, sandalwood and vanilla ₹999. Bubble Candles ₹499 unscented and ₹599 scented. Wax melts from ₹499, which need a ceramic burner at ₹599 - so they are only a complete gift for somebody who already owns one.

Versailles
The messages that stay with me are not the festive ones. They are the ones that start my friend is having an awful time and I do not know what to do. People write that at eleven at night, and what they are really asking is whether there is an object that will help. I have been doing this long enough to answer it honestly: there is not. A fragrance is a scent. It will not fix a week, it will not undo a rejection, and anybody selling it to you as comfort is selling you something else.
What a small parcel does do is carry one piece of information, and it is not a small one: I was thinking about you on a day when nothing made me. No birthday, no festival, nothing on a calendar. Somebody stopped in the middle of their own week and thought about yours. That is worth sending, and it is the entire reason this category exists.
So the practical advice runs the other way from what people expect. Go smaller. A large gift arrives at somebody who is already short of energy and asks them to produce a reaction - gratitude, surprise, a phone call they have to be bright on. A ₹399 candle or a ₹379 attar asks for none of that. And send the words yourself, separately: we put no printed card in the parcel, and even if we did, a sentence from you naming the actual thing they are dealing with does more than anything we could print. If you are choosing between the bigger gift and making the call, make the call. The gift goes alongside that, never instead of it.
