Founder Diaries · Reed Diffuser & Home Fragrance Gifting
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 9 min read Updated September 2026
The gift is not going to one person, and that is the whole problem in one line. You are walking into a household with at least two people in it, you do not know which of them cares about what, and an expensive gift from somebody they have just met is an awkward object rather than a generous one. So the question is not what to buy - it is who you are addressing and how much you are allowed to spend before a present starts asking for something back.
SOSA Day and Night reed diffuser duo gift set, two 50ml bottles, Rs 1,498
SOSA Day & Night duo · Morning Freshness and Evening Calm, two 50ml bottles ₹1,498 →
Two bottles, one box, and plainly a gift for a home rather than for a person. SOSA Day & Night, ₹1,498 for two 50ml reeds - Morning Freshness lemon and mint with Evening Calm lavender and chamomile, each running about 6 to 10 weeks. It leads this page because it sits at the top of the range where a gift is still easy to accept, and it covers two rooms instead of over-scenting one.
Quick answers — read this first
What should I take to my girlfriend's parents when visiting their home? Something addressed to the household. A 50ml reed diffuser at ₹749 to ₹849 or a duo gift set at ₹1,498 both work, because a room is shared and a bottle of perfume is not. Reeds run about 6 to 10 weeks and need no flame, water or socket.

How much is too much to spend? Once you are past roughly ₹1,600 you are into gift-in-return territory, which is the thing to avoid with people you have just met. The 130ml x 2 sets at ₹2,498 to ₹2,598 are excellent gifts for people you know well and the wrong size of gesture here.

Who do I actually hand it to? Whoever opens the door, and say one line: it is for the home. SOSA encloses no card, so the handover is where the gift gets explained, and "for the house" is a complete sentence that needs no reply.
The short answer
Short answer: Buy for the household rather than for either parent, and keep it between Rs 749 and Rs 1,598. A 50ml reed diffuser is Rs 749 to Rs 849; a duo gift set is Rs 1,498 to Rs 1,598. Above that range a gift from near-strangers starts to feel like an obligation.
The pick: A Day & Night duo gift set at ₹1,498 if you want something boxed, or a single 50ml from ₹749 if the visit is short.
Why: A duo is two 50ml bottles, so it reads as a household gift rather than as one large object for one room, and it stays inside the range where nobody feels they owe you anything.
Sending something when somebody is having a hard time - at a glanceKeep it small - candle ₹399, attar ₹379, car scent ₹449For their home - reed diffuser ₹749, nothing to switch onSay the words yourself - no card goes in the parcelNever - a parcel instead of turning up
A gift cannot change how somebody's week went, and a page that suggests otherwise is not worth reading. What a small parcel does is tell a person you were thinking about them on a day when nothing made you - which is a real thing to say, and worth saying. Keep it small, because a large one asks somebody already short of energy to produce a reaction, and send the words separately, because the object cannot carry them.
Straight answer
What should I give my girlfriend's parents when I visit their home, and how much should I spend?
Give the household something for the house and keep the spend between Rs 749 and Rs 1,598. A Day & Night duo set at ₹1,498 is two 50ml bottles in one box, which is the neatest way to hand something to a home rather than to a person; a single 50ml at ₹749 to ₹849 does the same job at a lighter weight if the visit is short. The reason for the ceiling is worth stating plainly: a costly gift from somebody a family has just met creates an obligation, and people tend to respond to it by planning what they now owe you, which is the opposite of the easy afternoon everybody wanted. The other reason a reed works here is that it makes no work - no flame, no socket, no water, nothing to switch off, and about 6 to 10 weeks of doing its one job. Do not buy one at all if the house already runs a diffuser somebody there chose, and do not buy the 130ml unless you have been told the living and dining area is one open space. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
You are not buying a present for her mother. You are putting something in a house, and a house is a much easier customer.
The band that works: ₹749 to ₹1,598. A 50ml single at the bottom of it, a duo gift set at the top, and nothing above it on a visit this early.
Reed duo sets from ₹1,498

Who the gift is for, what it costs, and what happens at the door

Three questions decide this, and none of them is about scent. Work through them in order and the product picks itself at the end.

1
The first variable
The recipient is a household, so buy something a household owns
Most gift advice assumes one recipient. This visit does not have one. There are two parents, possibly a sibling, possibly a grandparent, and you have no idea which of them would use what. The moment you buy for a specific person you are making a public guess about them in a room full of their family.

Household objects dodge that completely. A diffuser sits in an entrance or a living room and belongs to everyone who walks past it. Nobody has to accept it as theirs, nobody has to have an opinion about your taste in perfume, and nobody is left out. "It is for the house" is a complete sentence, and it is the reason a ₹799 bottle can be an easier gift than a ₹1,899 one addressed to one person.
Tip: Household gift, household sentence: hand it to whoever opens the door.
2
The second variable
The ceiling matters more than the floor
Everybody worries about spending too little here and almost nobody worries about the real risk, which is spending too much. A large gift from a person a family met an hour ago does not read as generosity. It reads as a transaction opening, and the usual reaction is quiet arithmetic about what should be sent back.

So set a ceiling of about ₹1,600 and work under it. The duo gift sets sit exactly at the top of that: Day & Night ₹1,498, Fresh & Grounded ₹1,548, Warmth & Bloom ₹1,598, each two 50ml bottles in one box. The 130ml x 2 versions at ₹2,498, ₹2,548 and ₹2,598 are the same sets scaled up, and they are the right gift for your own parents and the wrong one for hers. Underneath, a single 50ml from ₹749 is a perfectly complete thing to carry, and a candle at ₹399 is honest for a short, casual visit.
3
The third variable
What happens in the ten seconds after you hand it over
A gift that has to be opened, admired and discussed at the door puts a small performance on everybody. A gift that can be set down and looked at later does not. Think about which of those you are carrying.

A reed diffuser lands in the second category, and there is a specific reason: it needs nothing done to it in the next hour, or the next week. No water to change, nothing to refrigerate, nothing to find a container for. SOSA puts no card in the parcel and there is no wrapping or personalisation service, so the entire explanation is the sentence you say. That is a feature on a visit like this - short, out loud, over.
Tip: Say the sentence, put it down, sit down. That is the whole handover.
SOSA Morning Freshness reed diffuser, Malabar lemon and mint, Rs 749
The size decision, before the scent decision
50ml or 130ml is a room question, not a budget question
The 50ml from ₹749 suits a bedroom, a study, a hallway or anybody receiving their first diffuser. The 130ml from ₹1,249 suits an open-plan living and dining area or a large 3BHK living room, and it is genuinely too much for a small closed bedroom - a bigger bottle in the wrong room gets moved into a corridor. All five scents run about 6 to 10 weeks either way.
See the SOSA reed diffusers →
Work it out in this order
How to choose this in ten minutes
  1. Write down the ceiling before you shop: about Rs 1,600, not a rupee above.
  2. Decide household, not person, and stop considering anything worn.
  3. Short visit takes a 50ml from Rs 749; a long one takes a duo at Rs 1,498.
  4. Choose the least declarative scent you can when nobody can advise you.
The SOSA principle
A gift that is slightly too expensive is harder to receive than one that is slightly too small, because the small one is over the moment it is put down and the large one keeps asking a question.
With people you have just met, the kindest gift is the one that closes rather than the one that opens an account.

Which of the five, and in which size, for a household you do not know

The five SOSA reeds differ enough that the choice is real, and for a household you have never sat in, the rule is that the less you know, the less declarative it should be. Morning Freshness at ₹749 is Malabar lemon and mint and is the least opinionated of the five. Garden Bloom at ₹799 is British rose and night-blooming jasmine, floral and clearly a gift. Evening Calm at ₹799 is lavender and chamomile - a name on a bottle describing what is inside it, not a claim about anybody. Mountain Breeze at ₹849 is Himalayan pine, sage and cedar, dry and green. Fresh Brew at ₹849 is Coorg coffee and Kerala vanilla, the boldest of the set and the one most likely to be wrong for a stranger's house. The Day & Night duo at ₹1,498 is the useful compromise for a household: it contains the safest scent in the range plus a second one, so if one of the two is not to somebody's taste, the other still gets used.

The SOSA gift edit
Four ways to give this, priced against the awkwardness they create
The option Who it suits, and where it fails
A duo gift set · ₹1,498 to ₹1,598 The best fit for a household. Two 50ml bottles in one box, so two rooms are covered and the gift is plainly addressed to the home. It sits right at the top of the range where nobody feels they owe you a return gift. It is too much only for a very short or unplanned visit.
A single 50ml reed · ₹749 to ₹849 Light, complete and easy to put down. One room, about 6 to 10 weeks, no flame and nothing to switch off. Right for a shorter visit or when you would rather under-do it than over-do it. It is under-powered only in a large open-plan living and dining area.
A 130ml pair · ₹2,498 to ₹2,598 The same three duos in the larger bottles. Genuinely good gifts, and the wrong ones here: a box at this level from somebody a family has just met changes what the afternoon is about. Keep this for people who already know you well.
A candle instead · ₹399 to ₹999 The lower-stakes option at ₹399 for about 15 to 18 hours, and a sensible choice when the visit is casual or brief. It fails for a household that will not light a flame, and in that case a 50ml reed is the straightforward substitute.
SOSA Warmth and Bloom reed diffuser duo gift set, Rs 1,598
When it has to look like an occasion
A duo set is the readymade gift box, without anybody assembling a hamper
Two 50ml reeds in one box: Day & Night pairs Morning Freshness lemon-mint with Evening Calm lavender-chamomile at ₹1,498, Fresh & Grounded pairs lemon-mint with Mountain Breeze pine and cedar at ₹1,548, and Warmth & Bloom pairs Fresh Brew coffee-vanilla with Garden Bloom rose-jasmine at ₹1,598. The 130ml x 2 versions are ₹2,498, ₹2,548 and ₹2,598.
See the reed duo gift sets →

Two things worth knowing before you order. First, four of the five scents publish refills at ₹2,399 for 300ml and ₹3,499 for 500ml, so a household that takes to one can continue it; Evening Calm publishes no refill, which is the one asterisk on the Day & Night duo. Second, size is a room decision and not a way of signalling effort. Choosing the 50ml for a compact flat is not being careful with money, it is getting the object right, and a 130ml in a small closed room ends up in a corridor whatever it cost.

When the gift is meant to be the big one
SOSA Safar ₹3,999 for the car, SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 for the whole home
Safar is the waterless, cordless, rechargeable cold-diffusion perfume diffuser for a car or a travel bag - ₹3,999 for the SOSA-scent trios and ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios. Vaayu is the machine version of the same idea for a building: waterless cold-air nebulising of undiluted oil, rated for approximately 1000 m3 of connected air, with a Bluetooth app and timer, a 400ml tank, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, DC 12V / 1A 5W mains power and CE, RoHS and SGS marks. Both run waterless nebuliser oil - 100 gm ₹1,049, 300 gm ₹1,849 - and neither takes the ₹299 water-based Hotel Collection bottle. A rating assumes one connected body of air, so a Vaayu suits a large open home or a business and is the wrong gift for a two-bedroom flat with every door closed. It adds a scent to a space; it does not remove one.

The SOSA gifting range

Two questions settle almost every reed diffuser gift, and the first one is not price. How big is the room it is going into? A 50ml suits a bedroom, a study, a hallway or a first diffuser; a 130ml suits an open-plan living and dining area, and it is genuinely too much for a small closed bedroom. Then: how much do you actually know about their taste? The less you know, the less declarative the scent should be - Morning Freshness is the safest of the five for a home you have never stood in, and Fresh Brew coffee-vanilla is the strongest opinion in the range. Price follows those two answers rather than leading them.

The SOSA gifting range
Pick the size by the room, then the scent by how little you know about them
Gift What it is Who it suits Price
SOSA reed diffusers 50ml The standard gift size Five scents, about 6 to 10 weeks, nothing to plug in or switch off - right for a bedroom, a study or a first diffuser from ₹749
SOSA reed diffusers 130ml The large-room size The same five scents in the bigger bottle - for an open-plan living area or a 3BHK, and too much for a small closed room from ₹1,249
SOSA reed duo gift sets Two reeds in one box Day & Night ₹1,498, Fresh & Grounded ₹1,548, Warmth & Bloom ₹1,598 - the readymade housewarming and client gift from ₹1,498
SOSA reed refills 300ml and 500ml So a gifted diffuser does not become a dead bottle - published for four of the five scents ₹2,399 / ₹3,499
SOSA scented candles Hand-poured, small batches ₹399 for about 15 to 18 hours - the smaller home gift, and the one that needs a flame from ₹399
SOSA attars Alcohol-free roll-on oil The worn alternative, and a taste decision - only when you can name what they already wear from ₹379
SOSA Vaayu Waterless cold-air machine Approx 1000 m3 of connected air with a Bluetooth app and timer - a large open home or a business, not a flat ₹11,999

Three different fluids run through this range and none of them is interchangeable. Reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil. The SOSA ultrasonics - Boond ₹899, Sukoon ₹1,899 and Megh ₹5,999 - run the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299. Vaayu and Safar run waterless nebulising oil, so the ₹299 water-based bottle never goes into either of them. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

What SOSA publishes, and what SOSA does not
Everything below is on the live product pages. Anything not on this list is not something a gifting page should state.
  • Attars - Adaa ₹379 / ₹669 / ₹1,149, Ameeri ₹385 / ₹679 / ₹1,165, Mastani ₹389 / ₹685 / ₹1,179 and Nawaab ₹399 / ₹699 / ₹1,199 in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml. The Attar Trio is ₹1,055, ₹1,859 or ₹3,189.
  • Reed diffusers - Morning Freshness ₹749, Garden Bloom and Evening Calm ₹799, Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew ₹849 in 50ml; 130ml from ₹1,249. They last about 6 to 10 weeks. Duo sets from ₹1,498.
  • Car fragrance - nine scents from ₹449 to ₹549, each in a mild hanging format and a stronger spray at the same price, with 50ml sprays at ₹1,499 and saver combos at ₹899 to ₹949. Safar is ₹3,999, or ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios.
  • Candles and wax melts - Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Misty Mornings and Evening Walks at ₹399 for approximately 15 to 18 hours, or ₹699 for a two-candle duo at approximately 30 to 36 hours. Wax melts from ₹499, which need a ceramic burner at ₹599 - so they are only a complete gift for somebody who already owns one.

A note from Sonal

The reed diffuser is the product people are least embarrassed to give and most surprised by afterwards. What they expect is a decorative object. What it actually is, is a small piece of a household that runs for six to ten weeks and then ends, which is a very different thing from an ornament somebody has to keep forever out of politeness.

The reason I recommend it so often for gifting is unromantic: you are buying for a room rather than for a person. Personal fragrance is a taste decision, and when you cannot finish the sentence she usually wears something with..., no amount of money makes the guess better. A room does not have a signature scent it is loyal to. That is why a reed diffuser works for a colleague, a client, a mother-in-law and a friend's new flat - relationships where you may like somebody very much and still have no idea what is on their dressing table.

The one thing I would press on is size, because it is where good intentions go wrong. The 130ml is not the better gift, it is the bigger room's gift. Put it in a small closed bedroom and the person will move it to a corridor within a week. A 50ml at ₹749 in the right room beats a 130ml at ₹1,249 in the wrong one every single time, and if you want to spend more, spend it on the duo set so they get two rooms rather than one very loud one.

Frequently asked questions

Is a reed diffuser a good gift for my girlfriend's parents?
Yes, mainly because it is addressed to their home rather than to either of them. That removes the guess about personal taste entirely, and it means nobody is left out of the gift. A 50ml is Rs 749 to Rs 849 and a duo gift set of two 50ml bottles is Rs 1,498 to Rs 1,598.
How much should I spend when meeting her parents?
Keep it between Rs 749 and about Rs 1,600. The risk here is not looking cheap, it is spending enough that the gift creates an obligation. The 130ml pairs at Rs 2,498 to Rs 2,598 are better saved for people who already know you.
Should I buy something for her mother specifically?
It is safer not to on an early visit. Buying for one parent means making a public guess about that person's taste in front of their family, and it quietly excludes everybody else in the room. A household object avoids both problems and needs no information you do not have.
Is there a card or gift wrapping with a SOSA order?
No. SOSA does not enclose a card, and there is no wrapping, ribbon or personalisation service, so plan on saying what you want to say at the door. For bulk orders a custom label or logo on the product is possible, and those enquiries go to WhatsApp on +91 96192 18531.
What if I do not know how big their flat is?
Then buy the 50ml, or buy a duo set of two 50ml bottles. The 50ml is right for a bedroom, a study, a hallway or an entrance and is the safe choice for an unseen home. The 130ml at Rs 1,249 to Rs 1,349 is only correct if somebody has told you the living and dining area is one open space.
