The smell has crept out of the bay and into the room where customers wait, and someone has suggested a machine. I would rather you spent that money on extraction, a door and a fan, and I will explain exactly why a fragrance in a solvent-loaded bay is the one recommendation this cluster will never make.
Quick answers — read this first
Should I fix ventilation before installing a scent machine in a detailing studio? Yes, and after you have fixed it you should still not scent the bay. Solvent, coating, adhesive and polish smells have a source and a physical route, and the only real answers are local extraction at the point of work, enough make-up air to replace what you extract, disciplined storage of solvents and used cloths, and a proper separation between the bay and the customer side. A fragrance introduced into that environment does not remove anything and does not cover anything; it adds a second smell to the first, and the room then smells of both.
Why will you not scent a PPF or detailing bay at any price? Two reasons. The first is that it does not work: a bay with solvent vapour in it has a strong, continuously renewed smell, and no ambient diffuser competes with that. The second matters more. A fragrance in a working bay is the wrong signal to send your own technicians, because it suggests the smell is something to be covered rather than extracted. The people in that room all day are the ones who pay for that decision. We decline the work, and I would rather say so on a page than take the order.
What can be scented in a detailing or PPF studio? The customer side, once it is genuinely separate. That means the waiting area, the reception desk and the handover or inspection room if it is a distinct space with a closing door. The test is simple and physical: stand in the waiting area with the bay working normally and see whether you can smell the bay. If you can, the answer is a door, a lobby and a pressure difference, not a diffuser. If you cannot, one quiet register held low is a reasonable thing to add, and a reed usually covers it.
The short answer
Short answer: Fix the ventilation first, and then still put nothing in the bay. Local extraction at the point of work, make-up air to replace what you extract, closed storage for solvents and used cloths, and a real separation between the bay and the customer side. Scent only the waiting area, and only once you cannot smell the bay from it.
The pick: Nothing for the bay, at any price. For a bright waiting area under about 300 sq ft, SOSA Morning Freshness at ₹749, or SOSA Mountain Breeze at ₹849 in a darker lounge.
Next step: Tell us where the bay meets the customer area and how the extraction is arranged, and we will tell you what to fix before buying anything. Ask for a Raipur scenting plan.
How do I deal with a detailing studio that smells of chemicals, and where does scent fit?
Work in this order and do not skip forward, because the last step is worthless without the first three. One, extraction at the point of work. Solvent, adhesive, polish and coating vapour is produced at a specific place — a panel, a bench, a mixing station — and it should be captured there rather than after it has filled the room. Local extraction close to the work does more than any amount of general ventilation, and a booth or curtained bay for coating and correction work concentrates the problem where it can be dealt with. Two, make-up air. This is the step most studios miss. If you extract air and do not replace it, the building goes negative, the extraction underperforms, and air starts arriving from wherever it can — under the shutter, through the office door, off the yard. Give the bay a deliberate supply of replacement air, filtered and from a clean side of the building. Three, storage and housekeeping. Solvent containers closed and in a dedicated store, decanted quantities kept small, used cloths and applicators in a lidded metal bin emptied daily rather than piled in a corner, and spills dealt with immediately. A great deal of what people describe as a chemical smell is not the work at all; it is open containers and yesterday's cloths. Four, separation. The customer area needs a self-closing door, ideally a short lobby, and it should sit slightly positive to the bay so that air moves from the customer side towards the work and never back. Then, and only then, fragrance — and still not in the bay. We decline to scent a PPF, detailing, coating or paint bay, and I would rather lose the order than take it, because a fragrance there is both ineffective against a continuously renewed solvent smell and the wrong signal to send the technicians who breathe that room all day. Scent the waiting area, once you can stand in it with the bay working and smell nothing of the bay. Ask us for a Raipur scenting plan and we will tell you what to fix first.
Extraction at the point of work, make-up air to match, closed storage, a real door. Then scent the waiting room only, and never the bay.
If your customer area is genuinely large — a waiting lounge, reception and viewing area behaving as one volume of roughly 1,500 sq ft and up — the machine is one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, mounted on the customer side and never ducted towards the bay.
Sizing honesty on this page starts with a subtraction: the bay, which is usually the largest volume in the building, is excluded entirely. What is left is a waiting area, and most of those are a reed at ₹749 or ₹849. If you were quoted a machine sized to the whole studio, that quotation included rooms we would refuse to treat.
Malabar lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus. Where the customer area is white, glazed and lit, and the brief is clean rather than perfumed. 50ml ₹749, 130ml ₹1,249.
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft), 400ml tank lasting roughly 75-90 days depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mount, auto-stop and key-lock. CE, RoHS and SGS certified. Made in India.
Three things to fix, in order, before fragrance is even a question.
1
First, extraction and make-up air
Capture it where it is made, and replace what you take out
General ventilation dilutes a solvent smell after it has already filled the room. Local extraction captures it at the panel, the bench or the mixing station before it gets anywhere, and a curtained or enclosed booth for coating and correction work keeps the worst of it in one place. The step almost everyone misses is make-up air. Extract without replacing and the building goes negative: the fans move less than their rating, and air is pulled in from wherever it can get — under the roller shutter, through the office door, off the yard. So plan a deliberate replacement supply from a clean side of the building, filtered, at roughly the rate you are extracting. Your extraction supplier can size both together, and that conversation is worth more to this problem than any fragrance decision.
Tip: If the roller shutter whistles or the office door is hard to open when the extraction runs, you are short of make-up air.
2
Second, storage, cloths and housekeeping
Much of a chemical smell is open containers and yesterday's rags
Walk your own bay at closing time. Count the open containers, the part-used decants, the applicators left on a bench, the used cloths piled in a corner or in an open bin. Each of those is an uncontrolled source giving off vapour for hours after the work stopped, and together they often account for more of a studio's background smell than the work itself. The fixes are unglamorous and cheap: a dedicated solvent store with the lids on, decants kept small and closed, used cloths and applicators in a lidded metal bin emptied every day rather than every few days, and spills wiped rather than left to evaporate. Do this for a fortnight before you buy anything and judge the room again — most studios find the problem has halved.
Only judge the customer area once this is routine rather than occasional.
A self-closing door, a lobby if possible, and the customer side positive
The reason a customer smells the bay is almost always a route, not a concentration. A propped door, a shared corridor, a service hatch, a viewing window that does not seal, or a customer area sitting on the negative side of the building. Fix the route. Fit a self-closing door and stop propping it. Add a short lobby with two doors where the layout allows. Arrange the supply and extraction so that the customer side runs slightly positive to the bay, which means air moves from the clean side to the dirty side and never the other way. Once that is true, the waiting area holds its own air, and that is the only condition under which a signature scent there is worth choosing at all.
The SOSA principle
A fragrance in a solvent-loaded bay does not hide the solvent. It tells your technicians that the smell they work in is a presentation problem rather than a ventilation one.
That is why we decline this work rather than price it. The answer is a fan, a supply of replacement air, a lidded bin and a door that closes itself.
The waiting area: Morning Freshness — Malabar lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus — clean rather than perfumed, for a bright customer room. From ₹749.
The whole answer as a sequence, with the line that says where the plan stops.
The SOSA plan
A PPF and detailing studio, in order
The step
What it means in practice
Extraction at the point of work
Capture vapour at the panel, bench or mixing station, and enclose coating and correction work where you can.
Make-up air
Replace what you extract, filtered and from a clean side. Without it the building goes negative and pulls air in from the yard and the office.
Storage and cloths
Lids on, decants small, used cloths and applicators in a lidded metal bin emptied daily, spills wiped immediately.
The bay itself
Never scented. We decline this work, because a fragrance there is ineffective and the wrong signal to send your own technicians.
The dealership version of this ranking is in where a dealership should use scent, and the same source-before-scent argument for industrial premises is in dust and industrial odours in reception. SOSA is an independent Indian brand; the hotel-inspired scents are our own original interpretations, and no company named anywhere on this site is a SOSA customer or partner.
A warmer lounge: Mountain Breeze — Himalayan pine, sage and cedar — dry and unsweet, where the customer area has seating and softer light. From ₹849.
If a customer can smell your bay from the waiting room, the problem is a door and a pressure difference. A diffuser only gives them two smells to dislike.

Where the plan stops
Customer side only, and only once you cannot smell the bay from it
Nothing for the bay, one quiet register for the customer side, and only after the extraction, the storage and the door are right. Everything is made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The hard line on this page: we do not scent a PPF bay, a detailing bay, a coating or polishing area, a paint booth, a wash bay or a solvent store, and we would decline that work rather than quote for it. If a proposal you have been given sizes a machine to the whole studio, it has priced rooms that should not be treated. Two more things worth saying: there is no SOSA refill product for the Vaayu at present, so treat the fill as part of the purchase conversation; and nothing is ever placed inside a customer's vehicle.

A note from Sonal
This is the page in the cluster where I most often talk somebody out of a sale, and I am comfortable with that. A studio owner writes because the building smells of solvent and a supplier has suggested a machine. What that building needs is local extraction, a supply of replacement air, a lidded bin for used cloths and a door that closes itself. None of that is something I sell, and all of it will do more for the room than anything I could send.
The make-up air point is the one I would underline. I have seen studios add a large extraction fan and get a worse building, because nothing was replacing the air being pulled out. The bay went negative, the shutter started drawing in yard air, and the office door became the easiest route for anything moving. Extraction and replacement air are one decision, not two, and an extraction supplier will size them together if asked.
Everything on the customer side is an ambience decision and not a claim that scent changes what a customer decides, or anything therapeutic or medical. Fragrance never masks a smell that has a source, which is the entire reason this page refuses the bay. Your own technicians' and advisors' judgement about the level outranks mine, and nothing goes inside a customer's vehicle. Everything is made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
Should I fix ventilation before installing a scent machine?
Yes, and afterwards you should still not scent the bay. Local extraction at the point of work, make-up air to replace what you extract, closed storage for solvents and used cloths, and a self-closing door between the bay and the customer side. Only once you can stand in the waiting area with the bay working and smell nothing of it is a scent worth choosing.
Will you scent a PPF or detailing bay if I ask you to?
No. We decline that work rather than price it. A bay with solvent vapour has a strong and continuously renewed smell that no ambient diffuser competes with, so it does not work, and it is the wrong signal to send the technicians who spend their day in that room, because it implies the smell is a presentation problem rather than a ventilation one.
What is make-up air and why does it matter?
It is the replacement air you deliberately supply to a space you are extracting from. Extract without replacing and the building goes negative, the fans move less than their rating, and air is drawn in under the shutter, through the office door and off the yard. Extraction and make-up air are one decision, and an extraction supplier will size them together.
How much of the smell is housekeeping rather than the work?
Often a great deal of it. Open containers, part-used decants, applicators left on benches and used cloths piled in an open bin all keep giving off vapour long after the work has stopped. Lids on, decants small, a lidded metal bin emptied daily and spills wiped immediately. Run that for a fortnight, then judge the building again before buying anything.
What can I scent, and what should I spend?
The customer side only: the waiting area, reception, and a viewing or handover room if it closes. In most studios that is a reed at Rs 749 or Rs 849 and nothing else. A Vaayu at Rs 11,999 is only for a genuinely large connected customer area, mounted on the customer side and never ducted towards the bay.
Only for a large customer volume: Vaayu — waterless, wall mounted on the customer side, hours locked, level key-locked. Never ducted towards the bay. ₹11,999.
