Why not one register for the whole house? Because a large independent house often holds two or three households, and one machine makes that decision for all of them.
What is the simplest version of this gift? Two or three duo sets from Rs 1,498 each - one per floor, so each family chooses where each bottle goes.
A large established house is often two or three households
The technical questions on this site are all about volume and airflow, and for a large independent house they are easy: yes, it is big enough, and yes, a machine would cover the connected parts of it. The question that actually determines whether this gift is a success in such a house is a different one, and it is about who lives there. A great many large established homes are multi-household. The ground floor and one upper floor belong to the parents; another floor has been given over to a married son or daughter and their children; there may be a third portion for another sibling, and separate quarters for staff. Architecturally it is one building with one staircase. Socially it is two or three homes that share an entrance. That matters because fragrance, unlike almost anything else you can install, is not optional for the people in the space. A television in one room is watched by whoever chooses to watch it. A scent in circulated air is received by everybody, including the daughter-in-law who finds jasmine cloying and the grandmother who would rather the house smelled of nothing at all. A machine does that with one setting. It is a genuinely good product in the right building, and in a multi-household house it should be aimed at the part of the building everybody agrees is shared, and no further. In practice that is the ground floor: the entrance, the formal living room, the hallway, the staircase and landing. Those spaces are the public face of the house, they are where guests arrive and are received, and they are precisely the spaces where fragrance is genuinely welcome to everybody because nobody lives in them. They are also the spaces no bottle can serve - a staircase has no console table, a formal living room used twice a month has nobody to maintain a diffuser in it, and an entrance hall is a through-space. So a machine for the shared ground floor plus bottles upstairs is not a compromise; it is the arrangement that matches how the house is actually used. The SOSA Vaayu at eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees does that part well. It is a waterless cold-air nebuliser: pressurised air breaks undiluted oil into a dry nano-mist fine enough to travel with the air the house is already moving, with no water, no heat, no dampness and no oily film. Coverage is up to a thousand cubic metres, stated as about two thousand to three thousand square feet, which in a large independent house means the connected ground floor and whatever the stairwell carries upward rather than the entire built-up figure. Placement in a multi-storey house should be low - the ground floor circulation near the foot of the stairs or an air conditioning return - because in a closed house warm air rises through the stairwell and carries the mist up with it, which also means the intensity should be judged from an upper landing rather than beside the unit. Four hundred millilitre tank lasting up to around seventy-five days a fill, Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons with one, four, eight and twenty-four hour windows, day selection and adjustable intensity, under thirty-eight decibels, five watts, nine hundred grams, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mountable, auto-stop and a key lock - which is worth noting in a house with grandchildren in it - CE, RoHS and SGS, made in India, and four one hundred millilitre hotel-inspired oils included so it runs the first evening. Refills are the waterless nebuliser oils at one thousand and forty-nine rupees for a hundred grams or one thousand eight hundred and forty-nine for three hundred, never the water-based Hotel Collection at two hundred and ninety-nine rupees, which is a separate system for ultrasonic diffusers. The upstairs half is where the thought goes, and it is cheaper and easier. Give each household its own bottles and let them place them. Morning Freshness at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees for fifty millilitres and one thousand two hundred and forty-nine for one hundred and thirty is Malabar lemon with peppermint and eucalyptus, which reads clean and cool and suits this climate. Garden Bloom at seven hundred and ninety-nine and one thousand two hundred and ninety-nine is British rose with night-blooming jasmine. Evening Calm at the same is lavender with chamomile, the usual bedroom choice. Mountain Breeze at eight hundred and forty-nine and one thousand three hundred and forty-nine is Himalayan pine, sage and cedar, dry and unsweet. Fresh Brew at the same is Coorg coffee with Kerala vanilla. A duo set at one thousand four hundred and ninety-eight to two thousand five hundred and ninety-eight rupees per floor is the neatest version of this gift, and if the budget is going to one thing rather than two, two or three duo sets given to two or three households is a better present than one machine given to the building - because everybody receives something they control. There is also a practical argument for that split, quite apart from the diplomatic one. Bedrooms behind closed doors are outside a machine's field anyway, since it works through the air the house circulates, so they were always going to need bottles. And in a multi-household house the floors are often air conditioned independently and their doors kept shut, which means the stairwell lift is weaker than it would be in a single-family villa and each floor is closer to its own sealed volume. Three closing notes. In a sealed house fragrance accumulates rather than escaping, so start at the lowest useful intensity and raise only if nobody detects it after a few days - and in a multi-household house, ask more than one person. If the connected volume is larger than roughly three thousand square feet, one machine is not the whole answer: SOSA Angaan at twenty-five thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees covers around eight to ten thousand square feet and SOSA Meenar at thirty-eight thousand five hundred covers twelve to eighteen thousand. And where a smell has a cause - a formal room shut for months, old upholstery, a dried-out floor-drain trap, which a dry climate produces easily - deal with the cause, because fragrance is a finishing touch and never a fix.
So one register imposed on all of it is a social problem, not a technical one
Shared space by machine, private space by choice.
| Scent | Why it suits the mood |
|---|---|
| Shared ground floor · Vaayu ₹11,999 | Entrance, formal living, hallway, stairwell. Placed low; judged from an upper landing. |
| Each floor · duo ₹1,498 to ₹2,598 | Given to each household to place themselves. The diplomatic and the practical answer. |
| One budget, not two · two or three duos | Better than one machine for the building, because everybody controls something. |
| Independently cooled floors · weaker lift | Doors shut means each floor is closer to its own sealed volume. |

Versailles
The Vaayu is the most expensive thing we make and we turn down more orders for it than for anything else in the range. Not because we do not want to sell it - because most homes do not need it. It covers up to a thousand cubic metres, roughly two to three thousand square feet, and that is a villa, a penthouse, a large open-plan flat or a house with a double-height room. An ordinary 2BHK is not that, and in an ordinary 2BHK a reed diffuser at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees does the job better than eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees of machine would. So the question we ask is never what somebody spent on their house. It is how many cubic metres of air are in it.
The second thing we say, and almost nobody expects it, is wait a few weeks. A brand-new home smells of paint, varnish, polish, cement and new wood, and those are not smells to cover - they need open windows and time, and they go on their own. Give the machine at the housewarming by all means, but tell them the scenting starts once the building has finished smelling of being built. It is the same rule we apply to a new car, for the same reason: adding fragrance to a smell that is fading anyway is how a good product gets blamed for a bad result.
Two honest limits. Reed diffusers do not fail in large homes, they simply do not reach - a diffuser on a console table scents the area around that console table, which is not a fault, it is physics, and several of them is a real alternative to one machine. And there are two machines above the Vaayu, the Angaan and the Meenar, which are HVAC units for showrooms and hotel floors rather than houses - so if a home is genuinely far beyond three thousand square feet, message us rather than assuming more money solves it.
