Start below the target, arrive at it over several weeks, and say nothing, because a change that is announced becomes a thing customers have an opinion about.
Quick answers — read this first
How do I introduce a house scent without regulars noticing? Start well below the intended level and raise it in small steps over several weeks until you reach the written target, and do not announce it. A gradual arrival is not noticed as a change.

Should we tell customers about a new scent? Generally no. Announcing it invites opinions on something that works best unremarked, and a customer who has been told to notice a fragrance will evaluate it rather than simply find the room pleasant.

What about replacing an existing scent? Harder. Reduce the old one to nothing first and let the room clear, particularly where carpet and upholstery have absorbed it, before introducing the new register - otherwise you have a mixture.
The short answer
Short answer: Start below target, arrive over weeks, announce nothing.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 per enclosed room on Hotel Collection fragrance from ₹299, with an Aangan at ₹25,999 or a Meenar at ₹38,500 only where the air volume genuinely calls for it.
Sizing? WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with your room-by-room areas and ceiling heights, AC type, door traffic, which zones must stay unscented, and who will own the setting day to day - remote sizing from your own measurements, no site visit needed outside Pune.
How SOSA sizes a commercial space - the order that actually worksStep 1 - find the source: solvents, sanitiser, footwear, drains, AC filters, stale airStep 2 - draw the air volume, not the floor plan: doors and partitions divide itStep 3 - decide which zones stay unscented, and write that downStep 4 - set intensity low and schedule it around your peakStep 5 - re-check after two weeks, then leave it alone
Commercial scenting goes wrong in a predictable order: somebody buys a machine to cover a smell that has a source, puts it where the socket is, runs it at full intensity because day one felt weak, and ends up with a room people comment on for the wrong reason. Source first, air volume second, unscented zones written down third, low intensity and a schedule fourth. This guide walks that sequence, with the real SOSA machine range at each size.
Straight answer
How should a house scent be introduced to regular customers?
Gradually, and silently. Why gradually. A step change is what gets noticed; a slow arrival is not. Start at a setting clearly below your written target, and raise it in small increments over four to six weeks until a person arriving cold says it matches the target. Each step should be small enough that a weekly regular does not register it as different. The end state is a room that regulars would notice if you switched it off, and never noticed you switched on, which is the correct outcome for a house scent. Why silently. Announcing a fragrance converts it into something customers have an opinion about. A person told to notice a scent will evaluate it rather than simply find the room pleasant, and evaluation produces objections that indifference never would. There is one exception: if you have customers or staff who need to know - a fragrance-free option, an appointment in an unscented room - that is offered proactively rather than waited for, and it is offered as a normal courtesy rather than as an announcement about a new fragrance. Choose the moment. Introduce a new register in a period when the room is otherwise stable, not the same week as new upholstery, a refit, a new air conditioning system or a monsoon. Too many changes at once and you cannot tell which one is producing the result you are judging. Replacing an existing fragrance, which is genuinely harder. Reduce the old register to nothing and let the room clear before starting the new one. In a carpeted or heavily upholstered room the old fragrance has been absorbed and will keep releasing for a long time, so a fast changeover gives you a mixture of two registers, which is worse than either and reads as a mistake. Give it weeks rather than days, and use the naturally ventilated winter period if you can - that is the easiest time of the Ahmedabad year to clear a room. Consider extraction of carpet and upholstery as part of the change. What to record. The start setting, each increment with its date, and the setting at which an outside judge confirmed the target was met. That final setting becomes the written baseline, and every later recheck refers to it. Across several sites. Introduce the same register everywhere, on each site's own schedule, with the level set independently per room. Do not try to synchronise the settings, only the register, because the rooms are different and identical settings produce different results. A Vaayu at ₹11,999 on fragrance from ₹299, key-locked once you arrive at the target. Key-lock the unit, write the target as a perceived level rather than a dial number, name one owner, and allow changes only at a scheduled recheck. Drift happens through small reasonable adjustments nobody reverses. SOSA makes no claim that ambient scenting affects footfall, enquiries, dwell time, conversion or sales, and we make no therapeutic, psychological or air-purification claims for any fragrance. Fragrance is an ambience decision and never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: they should notice if you turn it off, never that you turned it on.

How to introduce it quietly

A step change gets noticed. A slow arrival does not, and that difference is the whole technique.

Why this works
Introducing it quietly
1 Start clearly below the written target 2 Raise in small increments over four to six weeks 3 Stop when an outside judge says it matches the target, then key-lock 4 Say nothing - except offering a fragrance-free option where it is needed
Per enclosed room, on air volume: SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, fragrance from ₹299, larger connected volumes on Aangan at ₹25,999 or Meenar at ₹38,500.
01
Slow arrival is invisible
Step changes are not
Increments small enough that a weekly regular does not register them add up to the target without ever being a change. The right end state is a room they would notice if you switched it off, and never noticed you switched on.
Tip: Arrive, do not announce.
02
Announcing invites evaluation
Which produces objections
A customer told to notice a fragrance assesses it instead of simply finding the room pleasant. The exception is a fragrance-free option, which is offered proactively as ordinary courtesy rather than as news about a new scent.
Tip: Do not ask them to have an opinion.
03
Replacing is harder
The old one is in the carpet
A fast changeover gives a mixture of two registers, which reads as a mistake. Reduce the old one to nothing, let the room clear over weeks, and use the ventilated winter period, with extraction if the room is soft-furnished.
Tip: Clear the room before you start again.
The SOSA principle
The right outcome is a room regulars would notice if you switched it off, and never noticed you switched on.
Which is only achievable by arriving slowly and saying nothing.

Changing from one register to another

One register introduced once and held is what makes a house scent recognisable, and the slow introduction is what stops it being an event.

The SOSA commercial range

Whatever the space, the method is the same: find the source of any smell and fix it, draw the air volume rather than the floor plan, write down which zones stay unscented, then set a low intensity and a schedule. Every SOSA fragrance is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the range by the size of space it is honestly built for.

The SOSA commercial range
Sized by air volume, not by ambition - from a ₹749 reed diffuser to the ₹38,500 Meenar
Option Right for What it actually is Price
Reed diffusers One small room, no power point, no maintenance Alcohol-free reed oil, passive, silent. Good for a single cabin or a small front desk, not for a hall from ₹749
Boond / Sukoon ultrasonic A desk, a single cabin, a small reception Water-based cool mist; runs on Hotel Collection fragrance, adds a little humidity to the room ₹899 / ₹1,899
Megh ultrasonic (6L) A larger waiting area where visible mist is wanted 6L tank, water-based. Still a room machine rather than a floor machine ₹3,499
SOSA Vaayu Reception, lounge, corridor, a contained showroom floor Waterless cold-air, up to 1000m³ (about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft), 400ml tank, app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, under 38 dB, key-lock for public areas ₹11,999
SOSA Aangan Large premises, or scenting carried on the building's own HVAC HVAC-mount nebulising machine, 800ml, roughly 8,000 to 10,000 sq ft, under 42 dB ₹25,999
SOSA Meenar Hotels, large showrooms, venues, corporate floors The largest machine in the range, specified for roughly 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft ₹38,500
Hotel Collection fragrance The fragrance the machines actually run on Seven scents, 15ml / 100ml / 300ml. SOSA's own interpretations; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand from ₹299
Honest notes on a whole-business decision: fragrance is an ambience decision only and is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control, and any odour with a source is a source-control matter first. Machines are specified by air volume including ceiling height rather than by floor area or by budget, and a larger machine is not a better one in a smaller volume. Open and semi-open spaces cannot hold fragrance at any output. Levels drift upward when nobody owns them, so a named owner, a written setting and a fixed review date are part of the specification rather than an afterthought. SOSA makes no claim that ambient scenting increases footfall, enquiries, conversion, retention, referrals, transaction value or customer spend, and no such claim should be made on the strength of this guide. Where association language is used it is descriptive of ordinary experience - people come to associate a place with how it feels - and is not a commercial performance claim. Ultrasonic diffusers and the machines run on the Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil, and the two are not interchangeable. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand. SOSA's fragrances are made in India; the scent machines are imported. Listed prices are store prices and are subject to change. SOSA's paid on-site walkthrough is ₹1,500 and is Pune only - everywhere else, sizing is done remotely over WhatsApp from your own measurements. A note from Sonal

By the time somebody in Ahmedabad calls me about scenting, they have usually decided to buy something and want help choosing it. The most useful thing I can do at that point is slow the order down by one conversation, because the sequence matters more than the product: source control, then ventilation, then cleaning, then lighting and upkeep, and only then the air. A machine bought before those are settled will be blamed for problems it was never able to solve.

Then the sizing, which is where money is most often wasted in both directions. Air volume decides the machine, not floor area and not budget. A double-height gallery and a low-ceilinged reception of identical floor area are different problems, and a business that buys the largest unit because it is the most expensive usually ends up running it at its lowest setting forever. If the smallest machine is enough, I will say so.

And the part nobody plans for: ownership. A level that nobody owns drifts upward, because staff stop noticing it and turn it up. One named person, one written setting, one fixed date to check it - that is the whole of the governance, and it is the difference between a room that reads as considered in year three and one that reads as heavy. Fragrance is an ambience decision, never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control, and I make no claim about what it returns commercially. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531. A part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the sizing and zoning method applies whatever equipment a business finally buys.

Facts verified September 2026: Fragrance is an ambience decision only and is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or source control. Coverage is determined by air volume including ceiling height rather than by floor area, and fragrance does not travel through closed doors, so a multi-room premises is specified by counting qualifying volumes rather than rooms. Open and semi-open spaces cannot hold fragrance at any output. Perceived intensity falls with habituation, which is why an unowned setting tends to be increased over time; a named owner, a written level and a fixed review date are part of the specification. Running cost comprises fragrance consumption, electricity and filter upkeep and varies with runtime, setting and volume.
