There is a difference between a room that smells nice and a home that has a signature, and almost nobody is told what it is. A room that smells nice is an event: you light a candle, you spray something in the hallway before people arrive, it is lovely for forty minutes and then it is gone. Somewhere else in the house a bathroom gel is doing one thing, a kitchen spray another, and a bedroom reed a third. Four pleasant smells in four rooms is not a fragranced home. It is four rooms.
A signature is the opposite. It is one scent, sized to the house, running on a schedule - so it is already in the air when someone walks through your front door, and already there at eleven at night when you come home yourself, and nobody has lifted a finger to make it happen. That is the whole trick the great hotels use, and it is not complicated: they do not chase smells room by room, they hold one fragrance across the volume people actually move through. Why is there such a large gap between a Rs 749 reed and a Rs 11,999 machine?
Because they are solving different problems rather than the same problem at different quality levels. A reed works by evaporation from its sticks, so its effect is concentrated close to the bottle and falls away quickly - which makes it exactly right for one enclosed room and structurally unable to hold a large open volume, since several reeds around a big space produce several local zones with faint stretches between them rather than one even register. How much would it cost to scent a 4BHK villa across two floors?
Between roughly Rs 15,000 and Rs 26,000 depending on which of two approaches your house suits, and the deciding factor is your stairwell rather than your budget. The usual answer is one SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 placed low in the connected ground-floor volume near the base of the stair, because a stairwell behaves like a chimney and warm air carries the register up to the landing on its own without a second machine. What is the cheapest way to make a large home smell good?
Cleaning and cross-ventilation, and that is not a joke answer. The most common reason a large house does not smell good is a source rather than an absence of fragrance: a dried-out floor trap in a bathroom nobody uses, which you fix by running the tap for thirty seconds, the shoe cabinet by the front door, the bin, damp mats, a guest room that is never opened. Two windows open on opposite sides for ten minutes creates a cross-draught that a single open window does not, and air-conditioning recirculates air rather than replacing it, so a sealed cooled house does not ventilate itself. That costs nothing and it is the step that has to come first, because fragrance laid over a real smell produces a more complicated version of it that a guest reads instantly as concealment.
