Most people who write to me about a small clinic have already been quoted for a machine, and they are asking me to confirm it. I almost never do. At this size the honest answer costs ₹849 and takes about a minute to install.
Quick answers — read this first
What do I actually buy for a 300 sq ft clinic? One reed diffuser. A SOSA Mountain Breeze 50ml at ₹849 - Himalayan pine, sage and cedar, so dry, cool and slightly green rather than floral - on the reception desk or a shelf near the door. Six fibre reeds, flipped once a week, roughly six to eight weeks a bottle. There is no second item on the list and no machine anywhere in this plan.

Why is a scent machine the wrong buy here? Because machines are rated in volume, not floor area, and 300 sq ft is almost no volume at all. At a standard 10 ft ceiling that room is 3,000 cubic feet, which is about 85m³. A SOSA Vaayu is rated to 1000m³. You would be paying ₹11,999 for a machine to fill under a tenth of what it was built for, and running it at its lowest setting for the rest of its life.

What does the whole thing cost? Total hardware spend: ₹849, one bottle, no machine. Refill the same bottle at six to eight weeks, or buy the 130ml at ₹1,349 if you would rather change it every three or four months. If you later want a timer and a fixed level you set once, that is a SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 - still not a Vaayu, which at this size would be the wrong buy by a wide margin.
The short answer
Short answer: one reed diffuser and nothing else - a SOSA Mountain Breeze 50ml at ₹849 on the reception desk or a shelf near the door. Total hardware spend ₹849. At 300 sq ft a scent machine is the wrong instrument: a Vaayu rated to 1000m³ would be filling under a tenth of that, since your clinic is roughly 85m³ of air.
The pick: one SOSA Mountain Breeze reed diffuser (₹849, pine, sage and cedar) at the entrance, with the examination room left completely alone. If your interior is bright white and pale, Morning Freshness at ₹749 is the same answer in a lighter register.
Next step: send a rough sketch of the room with the door, the desk and the examination area marked, and we will tell you where the bottle goes and whether you need anything at all - Ask for a clinic scenting plan.
Scenting a 300 sq ft women's health clinic - the whole briefOne reed diffuser, ₹849, at the entranceNo machine - 300 sq ft is about 85m³ of airA Vaayu is rated to 1000m³, so under a tenth usedExamination room - nothing at all, everOne seat kept unscented, even in a small waiting area
The arithmetic is the whole argument. Machines are sold against a volume figure, and a 300 sq ft clinic barely has a volume. One bottle does the job that a five-figure machine would be idling through.
Straight answer
How should a 300 sq ft women's health clinic be scented, and does it need a machine?
One reed diffuser, and nothing else. I would rather say that in the first line than walk you slowly up to it. A clinic of this size is realistically a small reception with two or three chairs, one consultation room and one examination room, which means the part of the floor plate that qualifies for fragrance at all is somewhere around 100 to 120 sq ft of entrance and waiting. One SOSA Mountain Breeze reed at ₹849 - Himalayan pine, sage and cedar, so the room reads dry, cool and faintly green instead of floral - on the desk or a shelf near the door, six fibre reeds flipped once a week, is a complete specification. Total hardware spend: ₹849, no machine, nothing to plug in and nothing to switch off at night. Now the arithmetic, because buying a machine for a room this size is the most common mistake in the category and it is an expensive one. Scent machines are rated in volume, not floor area. A SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is rated to 1000m³. Your 300 sq ft clinic at a standard 10 ft ceiling holds 3,000 cubic feet of air, which is about 85m³ - under a tenth of what that machine is built to fill. You would spend ₹11,999 to keep a machine at its lowest setting forever, and it would still be the wrong instrument, because at 300 sq ft the difficulty is never getting enough fragrance into the air. It is keeping the level low enough that a patient sitting three feet from the desk cannot name what she is smelling. A reed is naturally weak, which at this size is a feature rather than a limitation. Even a SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899, rated to 270-320 sq ft, is more than this room asks for, though it is a fair buy if you specifically want a timer and a level fixed once. The zoning does not change with size. The examination room gets nothing at all - not a lighter version, nothing - because the patient is undressed in a room she cannot leave and she did not choose the fragrance, and that reason is complete on its own. The consultation room gets whatever faintly drifts through an open door and no bottle of its own. If there are three chairs out front, keep the one furthest from the reed effectively unscented by design and make sure whoever runs the desk knows which one it is. If a patient asks for no fragrance, cap the bottle and put it in the back office; a reed is the one format where that takes four seconds and leaves no trace by the afternoon. This is an ambience decision on the level of lighting and seating, with no clinical, therapeutic or wellbeing claim attached; it sits alongside your cleaning and ventilation rather than instead of them, and it is never used to cover or hide another smell; and your judgement as the treating clinician overrides any of this in your own rooms. Ask for a clinic scenting plan and send a sketch with the doors marked - at this size the plan is one line long and I will happily write it for free.
One Mountain Breeze reed at ₹849 by the door, flipped weekly. No machine: 300 sq ft is about 85m³, and a Vaayu is rated to 1000m³. Examination room unscented, always, and one seat kept unscented by design.
The whole list is one SOSA Mountain Breeze reed - pine, sage and cedar, alcohol-free and phthalate-free, six fibre reeds, six to eight weeks on a 50ml. ₹849, or ₹1,349 for the 130ml if you would rather change it three times a year. No machine belongs in a room this small.

Three things that decide it at this size

Nothing here is about fragrance. All three are about how small the room actually is once you have taken the clinical areas out of it.

1
Do the volume arithmetic first
You are buying against cubic metres, not square feet
Every machine in this category is rated in volume, because that is what it fills. Take your floor area, multiply by the ceiling height, and work the answer in cubic metres. A 300 sq ft clinic at 10 ft is 3,000 cubic feet, about 85m³. A machine rated to 1000m³ is being asked to do under a tenth of its job, which is not efficiency, it is a mismatch - the smallest setting on an oversized machine is still a machine sitting in a small room. The same arithmetic run at 2,000 sq ft gives a completely different answer, which is exactly why this cluster is written by size rather than by product.
Tip: If your ceiling is 12 ft rather than 10, the number moves by a fifth. Measure it once.

2
Subtract the rooms that get nothing
A 300 sq ft clinic has perhaps 110 sq ft that qualifies
Draw the plan and cross out everything that is never scented. The examination room is out, entirely and permanently. So is any scan or treatment area, and so is any room where a patient is undressed, waiting on a result or unable to leave. The consultation room does not get its own bottle either - it takes whatever drifts in through the door and never more than the reception it opens off. What is left is the entrance, the desk and two or three chairs. That is the space you are scenting, and it is small enough that one reed placed near the door is a genuinely generous specification.
Tip: Mark the unscented rooms on the plan in a different colour and pin it up. It stops the plan drifting.

3
Set the level by the doorway, not the desk
In a small clinic the risk is always too much, never too little
Your own nose adapts within twenty minutes of arriving, so you are the worst possible judge of your own reception. Step outside for ten minutes, come back in, and ask whether you notice a fragrance or simply a room that smells clean. Clean is the correct answer. If a patient can identify what she is smelling, it is already too strong. In a room this size that happens easily, which is another reason a reed suits it: a reed cannot be turned up. Move it further from the chairs, or take two reeds out of the bottle, and you have a lower level with no dial and no argument.

The SOSA principle
A 300 sq ft clinic does not have a scenting problem to solve with hardware. It has about 85m³ of air, roughly a third of which sits in rooms that must never be scented at all.
The most expensive mistake in this category is not choosing the wrong fragrance. It is buying a machine rated for a floor the clinic does not have.

The entire specification: SOSA Mountain Breeze, pine, sage and cedar, six fibre reeds, six to eight weeks on a 50ml. ₹849, placed near the door.

The plan, zone by zone

The whole plan for a clinic this size fits in five rows, and four of them say to leave the room alone.

The SOSA plan
A 300 sq ft women's health clinic, zone by zone
The zone What to do
SOSA Mountain Breeze reed diffuserEntrance and reception desk
One Mountain Breeze reed at ₹849, on the desk or a shelf near the door. Flip the reeds weekly. This is the only item you buy.
The two or three waiting chairs
Whatever carries the two metres from the reed. Keep the furthest chair effectively unscented by design and make sure the desk knows which one it is.
Consultation room
No bottle of its own. A faint drift through an open door is fine and unavoidable; anything stronger than the reception it opens off is wrong.
Examination room
Nothing at all. Not a lighter version - nothing. She is undressed in a room she cannot leave and she did not choose the fragrance.
SOSA SukoonIf you later want a timer
A Sukoon at ₹1,899, not a Vaayu at ₹11,999. Even the Sukoon is rated for more square feet than this clinic has.

If your clinic is a little larger and you are genuinely weighing the two formats against each other, the arithmetic is set out properly in reed diffuser or scent machine for a 500 sq ft gynaecology clinic. And if you already have reeds and they are not reaching as far as you hoped, the reason is physics rather than a faulty product - that is explained in why reed diffusers work at reception but cannot be smelled across a wellness centre. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel.

SOSA Mountain Breeze reed diffuser
Why a reed and not a machine: It cannot be turned up, it needs no power, and it can be capped and removed in four seconds if a patient asks. ₹849.
₹849, one bottle, no machine
At 300 sq ft the honest answer costs less than a set of waiting-room cushions - and I would rather sell you that than a machine idling at its lowest setting.

I have talked more founders out of an ₹11,999 machine than I have sold, and almost every one of them had a room of 300 or 400 sq ft that a ₹849 bottle was always going to handle.

The SOSA specification for a small clinic

Two products cover every women's health clinic under about 500 sq ft, and one of them is a bottle. Neither adds humidity, noise or a daily refill routine anywhere near a room that does clinical work. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Buy against volume rather than floor area, subtract every clinical room before you size anything, and set the level by walking in from outside rather than by your own nose. Keep the examination room and any treatment or scan area completely unscented, keep one seat unscented by design even in a three-chair waiting area, and remember that fragrance here is an ambience decision with no clinical, therapeutic or wellbeing claim of any kind. It works alongside your cleaning and ventilation, never instead of them, and never to cover another smell. Ask for a clinic scenting plan before you spend anything.

A note from Sonal

The message I get from small clinics almost always arrives with a quotation attached. Somebody has been shown a machine, the number is between eleven and thirty thousand rupees, and the founder wants me to confirm it is the right call for a 300 sq ft practice. It is not, and I have never once regretted saying so. At this size the machine question does not really arise - there is not enough air in the building for it to be a question.

What I find useful is to make people do the multiplication in front of me. Floor area times ceiling height, expressed in cubic metres. Three hundred square feet at ten feet is about eighty-five cubic metres. The machine in the quotation is rated for a thousand. Once somebody sees those two numbers next to each other the conversation ends on its own, and we spend the rest of it talking about where the bottle goes and which chair stays unscented, which are the decisions that actually change how the room feels.

So: one Mountain Breeze at ₹849, near the door, reeds flipped on a Monday. If your interior is very white and pale, Morning Freshness at ₹749 does the same job in a lighter register. The examination room gets nothing at all, one seat stays unscented on purpose, and if a patient asks for no fragrance you cap the bottle without discussion. Made in India, composed in Pune, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

How do I scent a 300 sq ft women's health clinic?
With one reed diffuser and nothing else. A SOSA Mountain Breeze 50ml at Rs 849 - pine, sage and cedar - on the reception desk or a shelf near the entrance, with the six fibre reeds flipped once a week. Total hardware spend is Rs 849. The examination room gets nothing at all, and the consultation room gets no bottle of its own. There is no machine in this plan at any price.
Do I need a scent machine for a 300 sq ft clinic?
No. Machines are rated in volume rather than floor area, and 300 sq ft at a 10 ft ceiling is only about 85 cubic metres of air. A SOSA Vaayu is rated to 1000 cubic metres, so it would be filling under a tenth of what it was built for at a cost of Rs 11,999. Buying one at this size is the most common mistake in the category.
Would a Sukoon be worth it instead of a reed?
Only if you specifically want a timer and a level that nobody adjusts by hand. The SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,899 is rated to 270-320 sq ft, which is already more than the qualifying part of a 300 sq ft clinic. It is a reasonable buy, not a necessary one. A reed at Rs 849 is the honest answer, and the difference is better spent on almost anything else in the room.
Which rooms in a small clinic stay unscented?
The examination room, always and completely, along with any scan, treatment or procedure area and any room where a patient is undressed, mid-examination or waiting on a result. Unscented means unscented, not a lighter setting. The reason is environmental rather than medical: she is in a room she cannot leave, often undressed, and she did not choose the fragrance.
How long does one bottle last and what does a refill cost?
A 50ml bottle runs six to eight weeks with the reeds flipped weekly; the 130ml at Rs 1,349 runs fourteen to eighteen weeks. Refill oil is sold separately at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml. Free shipping applies above Rs 499. Nothing in the range should ever be described as hypoallergenic or as suitable for sensitive individuals.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the planning advice applies to any brand.

Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with adjustable intensity, a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days a fill depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, operation under 38dB at 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification, which are electrical and compliance marks and not medical approvals. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is an ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft and is supplied with three 15ml fragrances; the water-based Hotel Collection (₹299 / ₹999 / ₹1,799) is an ultrasonic fragrance and is not a refill for a waterless cold-air machine. SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free and phthalate-free, with 50ml lasting about 6-8 weeks and 130ml about 14-18 weeks. Cold-air refill oil for the Vaayu is not currently sold separately - the machine ships with 400ml included and further refills should be confirmed with SOSA. Warranty, annual maintenance, installation and bulk terms are not published and should be confirmed before ordering. Ambient scent is an interior and hospitality decision: it makes no clinical, therapeutic or wellbeing claim, it works alongside proper ventilation, cleaning and infection control and is never a substitute for any of them, it is never used to mask another smell, and no claim is made that fragrance influences a patient's decision or any commercial outcome. Clinical areas including procedure, post-procedure and photography rooms are left unscented, and the treating clinician's judgement overrides any scenting plan in their own room. The hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own original interpretations; SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel named for reference. Coverage, fragrance usage and running cost depend on the space, settings and hours of use, and are confirmed on a consultation.
