Most anniversaries celebrate something continuing pleasantly. A first year in business celebrates something not ending, which is a different achievement entirely - because the first year is the one in which stopping would have been easy, reasonable and completely defensible to everybody who suggested it.
Quick answers — read this first
What should I give for a first year in business? Something personal rather than corporate - a 12ml attar at Rs 379 to Rs 399, the Attar Trio at Rs 1,055, a coconut-soy candle at Rs 379, or a reed diffuser at Rs 749 to Rs 849.

Why does a first year matter more than later ones? Because it is the year in which quitting is easiest and most defensible. Later years have momentum and evidence behind them; the first has neither.

Should the gift be for the business? No. Anything sent to an office gets absorbed into the company. Send something personal to their home, where it stays theirs.
The short answer
Short answer: A first year in business is survived rather than won - it is the year in which stopping would have been easy and defensible, with no momentum and no evidence yet to argue against it. A personal gift suits that better than a corporate one: a 12ml alcohol-free attar at Rs 379 to Rs 399, the Attar Trio at Rs 1,055 where taste is unknown, a coconut-soy candle at Rs 379, or a reed diffuser at Rs 749 to Rs 849 for a space that is genuinely theirs. Send it to a home address rather than an office, where gifts tend to be absorbed into the business.
The pick: a SOSA return gift - consumable, no shelf space, from ₹299 a head.
Bulk: 10 to 200+ pieces quoted on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. Rates are not published here.
Congratulations gifts - at a glanceNo ledger here - nobody owes anybody, so generosity costs them nothingEverybody congratulates for 48 hours, then it stops deadA first only happens once - the second one gets nothingFrom ₹299 · homes, cars, books, awards, goals
A congratulations gift is not settling a debt - nobody owes anybody here, which is why generosity creates no obligation in return. Its job is to mark what somebody did, ideally after the first two days when everybody else has already moved on. Workplace recipients may still fall under gift policies that cap what they can accept, so check before sending. Gifts start at Rs 299, and anything can be checked on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 first.
Straight answer
What should I give for somebody's first year in business?
Something personal, sent home, marking a year that was got through rather than won. The first year is the one where stopping would have been easy and everybody would have understood - which is exactly what makes finishing it significant. The best fit: a 12ml alcohol-free attar at ₹379 to ₹399, or the Attar Trio at ₹1,055 where they choose. For something carried: a solid perfume at ₹459 to ₹549 that lives in a laptop bag. Modest and legible: a coconut-soy candle at ₹379. For a room that is theirs: a reed diffuser at ₹749 to ₹849. And write about the month they nearly stopped. Ask on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531.
Not a year won - a year got through. Mark that. From Rs 379.
If you want one answer for a mixed guest list: hanging car perfume from ₹449, because almost every adult guest drives and almost nobody has done anything about their car. Bulk quantities quoted on WhatsApp.
from ₹299

The only anniversary where surviving is the achievement

It is worth being precise about what a first business anniversary actually marks, because the usual framing - congratulations on a successful year - misses the interesting part. A wedding anniversary marks something continuing. A work anniversary marks time served. A first year in business marks something that did not end, and the difference matters because ending was genuinely available the whole time. In year three, stopping means unwinding commitments, disappointing people who depend on you, and explaining yourself to everybody who watched it work. In year one, stopping means going back to a normal job, and every single person who suggested that in the first place would have been gracious about it. There is no momentum to carry you, no evidence yet that the thing works, no track record to argue with the doubt. The only thing holding it together for twelve months is somebody deciding, repeatedly, on ordinary Tuesdays, to carry on. That is the achievement, and almost nobody names it, because the public language around businesses is always about growth. The second thing worth understanding is what the year was actually like, since it shapes the note. Almost every first year contains a stretch - usually somewhere between month four and month eight - where it looks like it will not work. Money is slower than expected, the first version of the plan turns out to be wrong, somebody who promised something does not deliver, and the founder spends a period doing the work of several people while telling everybody confidently that things are going well. That stretch is the most private part of the whole experience and it is the part they will most want somebody to have noticed. If you know roughly when it was, say so. Three sentences naming the difficult months rather than the finished year is the single most valuable thing you can put in a card, and it costs nothing. Now the gift itself, and the first rule is to keep it personal rather than corporate. Anything office-shaped - branded, desk-bound, the kind of thing a vendor sends - gets absorbed into the company almost immediately: it becomes furniture, it gets shared, it stops being theirs. Send something to their home instead, or hand it over away from work. The distinction matters because the person who got through the year is not the business, and the business already has plenty of things. Second, keep it complete rather than large. There is no proportion problem in this category - a congratulations gift repays nothing and creates no obligation, so the ceiling is the relationship rather than anxiety about the amount - but something small, whole and well chosen suits a first year better than something expensive, because a first year is not an arrival and a gift that treats it like one can feel slightly premature. Third, if the recipient is an employee or a co-founder in a company with policies rather than an independent owner, check before sending anything of value. Many employers cap or require declaration of gifts, and in regulated industries, listed companies and multinationals this is strict and the recipient has no discretion. Their policy governs, and nothing here is legal or compliance advice. Now the objects. An alcohol-free attar at three hundred and seventy-nine to three hundred and ninety-nine rupees is the strongest fit, because it is entirely non-instrumental and because it is a category working people essentially never buy for themselves - which is exactly true of somebody who has spent a year putting every rupee back into a business. Twelve millilitres of undiluted perfume oil in a glass roll-on with no alcohol carrier, so it does not spray or project: it opens quietly and stays within roughly an arm's length, which makes it usable before a meeting or in a shared office without imposing on anybody. Adaa at three hundred and seventy-nine rupees is bergamot, green cardamom, jasmine sambac and white musk. Ameeri at three hundred and eighty-five is Taif rose with Indian sandalwood. Mastani at three hundred and eighty-nine is night jasmine and Damask rose. Nawaab at three hundred and ninety-nine is a white oud composition built with Mysore sandalwood and Kashmir saffron rather than a dehn al oud distillate, which is worth saying plainly rather than letting the word do unearned work. The Attar Trio at one thousand and fifty-five rupees is the version for when you do not know their taste, and it is the most reliable gift in this cluster because the discovery becomes theirs. A solid perfume at four hundred and fifty-nine to five hundred and forty-nine rupees is the format that suits a year of grinding specifically, because it is the one that gets carried through something rather than displayed after it: fifteen grams of alcohol-free balm in a flat compact, applied with a finger, spill-proof, no cap to lose, six to eight hours, surviving months in a laptop bag. Titan at five hundred is Arabica coffee, roasted wood, black pepper, frankincense and leather. Sterling at four hundred and sixty-nine is coconut milk, almond nougat, white amber and powdered musk. Siren at four hundred and eighty-nine is black cherry, espresso, warm vanilla and cedar smoke. Velour at four hundred and seventy-nine is vanilla bean, butter biscuit, toasted almond and whipped cream. Beast at five hundred and forty-nine is smoked whiskey, roasted coffee, spicy leather, amber resin and vanilla bark. A coconut-soy candle at three hundred and seventy-nine rupees is the most legible small gift in the shop and needs no explaining to anybody, which makes it well suited to a private achievement that had no ceremony: lead-free eco wick, phthalate-free, hand-poured in small batches in Pune, fifteen to eighteen hours, in Misty Mornings with Nilgiri orchid and sun-ripened nectarine, Bookshop with cedarwood, sage and lemon, Evening Walks with frankincense and tonka, or Cozy Corner with spiced pear and golden honey. Two candles at seven hundred and fifty-eight rupees with a written note is a complete gift rather than a token. Wax melts at four hundred and seventy-four rupees need a ceramic burner at five hundred and sixty-nine, so give both or neither. A reed diffuser at seven hundred and forty-nine to eight hundred and forty-nine rupees works where there is a space that is genuinely theirs - a home study, a room they work from, a cabin they actually sit in rather than a shared office. Its practical profile suits somebody with no spare attention: a minute to set up, then nothing at all, running two to three months with no flame, no socket and no switch. Morning Freshness is seven hundred and forty-nine, Garden Bloom and Evening Calm seven hundred and ninety-nine, Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew eight hundred and forty-nine, and Fresh Brew suits somebody whose working day runs on coffee. Reeds use their own alcohol-free reed oil drawn up rattan by capillary action, a separate system from everything else in the shop - reed oil never goes into a machine, and the water-based Hotel Collection concentrate at two hundred and ninety-nine rupees is ultrasonic-only at three to six drops per tank. If they would rather have a machine, the Sukoon at one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine rupees is five hundred millilitres with a timer, right for a room and never to be given with an empty tank. On timing, the useful thing about an anniversary is that it is a known date, which means everybody who is going to say something says it that week and then stops. That gives you the same option available everywhere else in this cluster: hold the gift for two or three weeks and let it arrive when the messages have finished, into an ordinary working day. It reads completely differently from something that arrived with the rest. And one limit at the top of the range: the SOSA Vaayu at eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees is built for roughly one thousand cubic metres, which is commercial scale, so it belongs only where a genuine commercial space is involved - not a home office, and not a small workspace.

1
Ending was available
And everybody would have been gracious
In year three, stopping means unwinding commitments and explaining yourself. In year one it means going back to a normal job, which half the people around them already suggested.
Tip: Twelve months held together by somebody deciding, repeatedly, on ordinary Tuesdays, to carry on.
2
There is always a stretch
Usually somewhere in months four to eight
Money slower than expected, the first plan wrong, somebody who promised something not delivering - while telling everybody confidently that things are going well.
3
Personal, and complete
Not office-shaped, not premature
Anything sent to work gets absorbed into the company. And a first year is not an arrival, so something small, whole and well chosen suits it better than something grand.
Tip: There is no proportion problem here - nothing is being repaid - but the register still matters.
The SOSA principle
The public language around businesses is always about growth. Nobody has a phrase for the achievement of something simply not having ended.
Three sentences naming the difficult months beats a card about a successful year, every time.

Marking a year that was got through

Personal, non-instrumental and sized to a year that was got through rather than won.

A note from Sonal

There is a pattern I noticed years before we sold anything, and it is the reason this section exists. Somebody achieves something that took them years - the flat, the first car bought outright, the manuscript finished at last - and for about forty-eight hours the phone does not stop. Then it stops completely. The achievement took three years; the celebrating took a weekend, and then everybody went back to their own lives, which is not unkind, it is just how attention works.

Which means a gift arriving in week two or three lands in an empty field. That is the single most useful thing on any of these pages and it costs nothing. The second is that a congratulations gift is not repaying anything: nobody owes anybody here, so there is no ledger to balance and no risk of over-gifting into an obligation. You are free to be as generous as the relationship allows. And write the note about what they did, not about how you feel - name the four years, the thing they gave up, the draft they rewrote eleven times.

Two honest things. If somebody has just bought a new car, do not buy them something to cover the smell of it - most new owners like it, it fades on its own, and a fragrance is better introduced a few weeks later in a restrained register. And if somebody has bought a new home, size the gift to the home: our Vaayu is a waterless nebuliser built for spaces of roughly a thousand cubic metres, which is a hotel lobby rather than a three-bedroom flat, and we would rather tell you that than sell you one. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with what they achieved and what their place is like, and we will say honestly if we think fragrance is the wrong call. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.

Frequently asked questions

What should I give for a first year in business?
Something personal sent to their home - an attar at Rs 379 to Rs 399, the Attar Trio at Rs 1,055, two candles at Rs 758, or a reed diffuser at Rs 749.
Why does the first year matter most?
Because stopping was easy and defensible the whole way through, with no momentum and no track record to argue against the doubt.
Should I send it to the office?
Better not. Anything arriving at work is absorbed into the company and stops being theirs. The person who got through the year is not the business.
What should the note say?
The difficult months rather than the successful year. If you know roughly when the bad stretch was, naming it is worth more than anything you buy.
When should it arrive?
An anniversary is a known date, so everybody says something that week and then stops. Holding it two or three weeks lets it land into an ordinary working day.
