A gift from a manager is never only a gift. It is a piece of information about how you treat people, and it will travel - within a week the team will know roughly what you gave and to whom. That is not cynicism, it is just how workplaces work, and it means the useful test is not whether the recipient will like it but whether you could do the same thing for the next person who earns it.
Quick answers — read this first
What should a manager give an employee for professional recognition? Something modest, neutral and repeatable - a coconut-soy candle at Rs 379, a reed diffuser at Rs 749 to Rs 849, or the Attar Trio at Rs 1,055 where they choose their own scent.

Is a personal fragrance appropriate from a manager? Be careful. Anything worn is a comment on a person's body in a hierarchy, so a room format or a set they choose from is safer than picking a scent for them.

What about gift policies? They apply here directly. Many employers cap or require declaration of gifts, and your own organisation may have rules about what managers may give. Check before you buy.
The short answer
Short answer: A gift from a manager is read as a signal about how people are treated, and within a week the team usually knows what was given, so the practical test is whether the same gift could be repeated for the next person who earns it. Modest, neutral and repeatable is right: a coconut-soy candle at Rs 379, a reed diffuser at Rs 749 to Rs 849, or the Attar Trio at Rs 1,055 where the recipient chooses their own scent. Avoid choosing a worn fragrance for somebody you manage. Employer gift policies apply directly and should be checked first.
The pick: a SOSA return gift - consumable, no shelf space, from ₹299 a head.
Bulk: 10 to 200+ pieces quoted on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. Rates are not published here.
Congratulations gifts - at a glanceNo ledger here - nobody owes anybody, so generosity costs them nothingEverybody congratulates for 48 hours, then it stops deadA first only happens once - the second one gets nothingFrom ₹299 · homes, cars, books, awards, goals
A congratulations gift is not settling a debt - nobody owes anybody here, which is why generosity creates no obligation in return. Its job is to mark what somebody did, ideally after the first two days when everybody else has already moved on. Workplace recipients may still fall under gift policies that cap what they can accept, so check before sending. Gifts start at Rs 299, and anything can be checked on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 first.
Straight answer
What should a manager give an employee for professional recognition?
Something modest, neutral and repeatable. Within a week the team will know roughly what you gave, so the test is whether you could do the same for the next person who earns it. Safe and good: a coconut-soy candle at ₹379 - legible, used rather than displayed, and easy to repeat. A reed diffuser at ₹749 to ₹849 for a home, which needs a minute to set up and then nothing for two to three months. The Attar Trio at ₹1,055 where they pick their own. Be careful with anything worn that you have chosen for them - in a hierarchy that reads differently than it would between friends. And check the gift policy before you buy. Ask on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531.
The team will know what you gave. Make it repeatable. From Rs 379.
If you want one answer for a mixed guest list: hanging car perfume from ₹449, because almost every adult guest drives and almost nobody has done anything about their car. Bulk quantities quoted on WhatsApp.

A manager's gift is read as a signal, not as a present

Start with the part that makes manager gifting different from every other kind, because it is the part people forget. When a manager gives somebody a gift, that gift is public in a way personal gifts are not. Even if it is handed over privately, the recipient will mention it, somebody will ask, and within a week the team has a rough idea of what was given and to whom. This is not a problem as long as you plan for it, and it produces a single clarifying test: could you do the same thing, at the same level, for the next person who achieves something comparable? If yes, the gift is fine. If no - because it was unusually generous, or unusually personal, or drew on a friendship the rest of the team does not have with you - then giving it now creates a standard you cannot meet and a comparison somebody else will lose. Everything else on this page follows from that. The second rule is proportion. An extravagant gift from a manager is uncomfortable for reasons that have nothing to do with the recipient's taste. It can imply an obligation, it can look like favouritism to everybody watching, and in many organisations it may simply not be permitted. The right register is a good, complete, obviously thoughtful object at a modest price - which in this whole category is also the most effective register, because the thing that makes a gift land is specificity rather than cost. Third, and this one is specific to fragrance: be careful with anything worn. A perfume chosen by a manager for somebody they manage is a comment about a person's body, made across a hierarchy, and even with the best intentions it can read wrongly or make the recipient feel they now have to wear it. There are two clean ways around this. Choose a room format instead - a candle or a reed diffuser is addressed to a space and carries none of that. Or give a set the recipient chooses from, like the Attar Trio, where the decision is theirs rather than yours. Both are completely safe and neither costs you anything in thoughtfulness. Fourth, the policy point, which applies more directly here than anywhere else in this cluster. Many organisations have rules about gifts - value caps, declaration requirements, restrictions on gifts between managers and reports, and separate rules about anything that could be treated as a benefit. In regulated industries, listed companies, government-adjacent roles and many multinationals these are strict and neither you nor the recipient has discretion. Check your own organisation's policy before buying and, if there is any ambiguity, keep it modest and route it through whatever the normal recognition process is. Their policy and yours govern, and nothing on this page is legal, tax or compliance advice. Now the part that actually does the work, which is free. The note matters more than the object here, and it should be specific rather than warm. Generic praise from a manager - great work, well deserved, keep it up - is heard as a formality because that is usually what it is. Naming the thing is different: the particular problem they solved, the week they carried something difficult without being asked, the decision they made that turned out to be right, the quality they held when it would have been easier not to. That kind of note is remembered for years, is entirely defensible in front of the whole team, and costs nothing. If the recognition was external - an industry award, a client commendation - it is also worth writing the sentence that nobody else will: that you know what the work looked like from inside, on the days when it was not going well. Now the objects. A coconut-soy candle at three hundred and seventy-nine rupees is the most reliable manager gift in the shop. It is legible on sight so nothing needs explaining, it is used rather than displayed, it carries no personal implication, it is easy to repeat for the next person, and it sits comfortably under most value caps. Lead-free eco wick, phthalate-free, hand-poured in small batches in Pune, fifteen to eighteen hours. Misty Mornings is Nilgiri orchid and sun-ripened nectarine, Bookshop is cedarwood, sage and lemon, Evening Walks is frankincense and tonka, Cozy Corner is spiced pear and golden honey - and Bookshop is the most broadly neutral of the four for a workplace gift. Two candles at seven hundred and fifty-eight rupees with a written note is a complete gift rather than a token. Wax melts at four hundred and seventy-four rupees need a ceramic burner at five hundred and sixty-nine, so give both or neither. A reed diffuser at seven hundred and forty-nine to eight hundred and forty-nine rupees is the step up and is addressed to a home rather than a person, which makes it safe. It takes a minute to set up and then needs nothing: no flame, no socket, no switch, running two to three months. Morning Freshness at seven hundred and forty-nine and Mountain Breeze at eight hundred and forty-nine are the cleanest and most neutral registers, which is what you want when choosing for somebody whose taste you do not know. Garden Bloom and Evening Calm at seven hundred and ninety-nine are warmer, and Fresh Brew at eight hundred and forty-nine is characterful. Reeds use their own alcohol-free reed oil drawn up rattan by capillary action - a separate system, so reed oil never goes into a machine, and the water-based Hotel Collection concentrate at two hundred and ninety-nine rupees is ultrasonic-only at three to six drops per tank. Never give a machine with nothing to run in it. The Attar Trio at one thousand and fifty-five rupees is the best option where you want something more personal without the hierarchy problem, because the choice is handed to the recipient: three twelve-millilitre alcohol-free attars, and they find the one that suits them. An attar is undiluted perfume oil in a glass roll-on with no alcohol carrier, which opens quietly and stays within roughly an arm's length rather than filling a room - which incidentally makes it well suited to an office, where strong fragrance is often unwelcome. A solid perfume at four hundred and fifty-nine to five hundred and forty-nine rupees is a reasonable alternative for the same reason, being fifteen grams of alcohol-free balm in a flat compact, spill-proof and discreet - though the same caution about choosing a worn scent for a report applies. One last note on distribution. If several people contributed to whatever is being recognised, giving one person a gift and the rest nothing is the most common way this goes wrong. Either recognise the group at a level you can afford for everybody, or make the individual gift small enough that it clearly marks a specific act rather than ranking people.

1
It travels
Within a week the team knows
Even handed over privately, the recipient mentions it and somebody asks. That is not cynicism, it is just how workplaces work.
Tip: So the test is whether you could do the same, at the same level, for the next person who earns it.
2
Careful with anything worn
It is a comment on a body, across a hierarchy
Even with the best intentions it can read wrongly, or leave the recipient feeling they now have to wear it.
3
The note does the work
And it is the part that is free
Great work and well deserved are heard as formalities. The particular problem they solved, the week they carried something without being asked - that is remembered for years.
Tip: It is also entirely defensible in front of the whole team, which the gift itself has to be too.
The SOSA principle
If several people contributed, giving one a gift and the rest nothing is the most common way this goes wrong. Either recognise the group, or keep the individual gift small enough to mark an act rather than rank people.
Check your organisation's policy before buying. Caps, declarations and rules on manager-to-report gifts are common, and neither of you has discretion.

Defensible, proportionate, repeatable

Neutral registers and room formats, because you are choosing for somebody whose taste you do not know and should not assume.

Two candles ₹758 · with a written note A complete gift rather than a token, and the note is the part that is remembered years later.

A note from Sonal

There is a pattern I noticed years before we sold anything, and it is the reason this section exists. Somebody achieves something that took them years - the flat, the first car bought outright, the manuscript finished at last - and for about forty-eight hours the phone does not stop. Then it stops completely. The achievement took three years; the celebrating took a weekend, and then everybody went back to their own lives, which is not unkind, it is just how attention works.

Which means a gift arriving in week two or three lands in an empty field. That is the single most useful thing on any of these pages and it costs nothing. The second is that a congratulations gift is not repaying anything: nobody owes anybody here, so there is no ledger to balance and no risk of over-gifting into an obligation. You are free to be as generous as the relationship allows. And write the note about what they did, not about how you feel - name the four years, the thing they gave up, the draft they rewrote eleven times.

Two honest things. If somebody has just bought a new car, do not buy them something to cover the smell of it - most new owners like it, it fades on its own, and a fragrance is better introduced a few weeks later in a restrained register. And if somebody has bought a new home, size the gift to the home: our Vaayu is a waterless nebuliser built for spaces of roughly a thousand cubic metres, which is a hotel lobby rather than a three-bedroom flat, and we would rather tell you that than sell you one. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with what they achieved and what their place is like, and we will say honestly if we think fragrance is the wrong call. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.

Frequently asked questions

What should I give an employee for recognition?
Something modest, neutral and repeatable - a candle at Rs 379, a reed diffuser at Rs 749, or the Attar Trio at Rs 1,055 where they choose their own scent.
Can I give a perfume to someone I manage?
Be careful. A scent chosen by a manager for a report is a comment on a person's body across a hierarchy. A room format, or a set they choose from, avoids it.
What about my company's gift rules?
Check them first. Caps, declaration requirements and rules on manager-to-report gifts are common and strict in regulated and listed companies.
How much should I spend?
Modest. Extravagance from a manager implies obligation, looks like favouritism to everybody watching, and may not be permitted at all.
What if a whole team did the work?
Recognise the group at a level you can afford for everybody, or keep the individual gift small enough that it marks a specific act rather than ranking people.
