This is the room the house was designed around, and it is also the room where people most often buy the wrong machine - in both directions. Some spend Rs 11,999 on a system built for a whole connected floor and use it in one room with the doors shut. Others put a small bedroom diffuser in a 700 sq ft double-height living room and conclude that home fragrance does not work. The honest answer depends on one question, and it is not how big the room is.
Quick answers — read this first
What is the best scent machine for a large villa living room? It depends on whether the living room is a room or part of an open floor. If it is genuinely one big enclosed room with doors that stay shut, a Megh 6L ultrasonic at Rs 3,499 running the water-based SOSA Hotel Collection from Rs 299 is an honest and much cheaper answer than a whole-home machine. If the living room opens into the entrance, the dining and a passage - which it does in most villas - then you are not scenting a room, you are scenting a connected volume of air, and the right machine is the SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999: waterless cold-air, approximately 1000 cubic metres, Bluetooth app and timer, with four hotel-inspired waterless blends included in the box. Buying the room-sized answer for a connected floor is the mistake that makes people buy twice.

How do I calculate what my living room needs? Work in cubic metres, because you are filling air rather than covering a floor. Multiply floor area by ceiling height to get cubic feet, then divide by 35.3. A 400 sq ft living room at a 10 ft ceiling is 4,000 cubic feet, about 113 cubic metres. A 600 sq ft room at 10 ft is 6,000 cubic feet, about 170 cubic metres. The same 600 sq ft room at a 20 ft double-height ceiling is 12,000 cubic feet, about 340 cubic metres - the height roughly doubles the job. Then decide what counts as connected: if the living room opens into the entrance and dining, add those too. A connected entrance, living, dining and passage of 1,200 sq ft at 10 ft is 12,000 cubic feet, about 340 cubic metres, which is comfortably inside the Vaayu's approximately 1000 cubic metre rating.

Is a Megh Rs 3,499 enough for a big living room? For one genuinely enclosed large living room, it often is, and we would rather say so than sell you something larger. The Megh is a 6 litre ultrasonic that mists a water and fragrance mixture and runs the water-based SOSA Hotel Collection from Rs 299 for 15ml, with a 100ml refill at Rs 999. What it will not do is hold a connected floor - entrance plus living plus dining plus stair void - at one even level, because that is a much bigger body of air and a different kind of machine. It also has a tank to fill, which the waterless Vaayu at Rs 11,999 does not. If your living room has doors and they are usually closed, start with the Megh. If it does not, the Vaayu is the machine that will not disappoint you.
The short answer
Short answer: For a large villa living room, the deciding question is not the room's size but whether it is enclosed. One genuinely closed large living room: a Megh 6L ultrasonic at Rs 3,499 with the water-based SOSA Hotel Collection from Rs 299 is honest and enough. A living room open to the entrance, dining and passage: that is one connected volume and the SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 is the right machine - waterless cold-air, approximately 1000 cubic metres, app and timer, four hotel-inspired blends included. Do the maths in cubic metres: 600 sq ft at 10 ft is about 170 cubic metres, the same room at 20 ft is about 340. Reeds from Rs 749 for closed rooms. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999, four hotel-inspired blends included in the box) for the connected living volume of a villa; reeds from ₹749 for a single bedroom or bathroom; a single room done properly from ₹899; the Aangan (₹25,999) ducted into central air-conditioning for genuine whole-home coverage.

A villa is not one room, it is a set of connected volumes and a set of closed doors, and the two need different answers. Whole-home scenting means one fragrance held evenly across the part of the house you actually live in - the entrance, the living room, the dining - running on a schedule so it is already there when someone walks through your front door, and already there when you come home yourself. The bedrooms, the guest bathroom and the study get their own quiet solutions. Nobody in the house has to remember anything.
Straight answer
Megh or Vaayu for a large living room - and how do I tell which one my house actually needs?
One question decides it, then the arithmetic confirms it. 1. Is the living room a room, or part of a floor? Stand in the doorway. If there are doors and they are usually shut, you have a room. If it runs into the entrance, the dining and a passage with no doors between them, you have a connected volume and the room is only part of your problem. 2. If it is a room. A Megh 6L ultrasonic at ₹3,499 with the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299 for 15ml is a genuinely good answer for one large enclosed living room, and we would rather you spent ₹3,499 than ₹11,999 on a machine sized for a floor you do not have. A Sukoon at ₹1,899 suits a smaller sitting room; a Boond at ₹899 is a bedroom machine and will disappoint you in a big room. 3. If it is a floor. The SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless cold-air, approximately 1000m³, Bluetooth app and timer, four hotel-inspired waterless blends in the box. A coverage rating always assumes one connected body of air, and no machine pushes scent through a closed door. 4. The arithmetic. Floor area x ceiling height = cubic feet, / 35.3 = cubic metres. 600 sq ft at 10 ft is about 170m³; at 20 ft it is about 340m³. 5. The rooms with doors. A reed from ₹749 each. Ventilate and clean first. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 with your room sizes and ceiling height. Made in India; a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: an enclosed big living room is honestly a Megh ₹3,499 job with the water-based Hotel Collection from ₹299; a living room open to the entrance and dining is a connected volume and a Vaayu ₹11,999 job. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
The whole-home answer most villa owners land on: the SOSA Vaayu - waterless cold-air scenting to ~1000m³, Bluetooth app and timer, and four hotel-inspired blends included in the box - at ₹11,999. One bedroom or a guest bathroom starts on reeds from ₹749; a single room done properly from ₹899; central air-conditioning from ₹25,999. Sizing the room people actually sit in

The question that decides the machine, the arithmetic that confirms it, and where it goes.

Why this works at home
Sizing a living room honestly, in both directions
1Ask one question first: does this room have doors, and are they shut?2One enclosed big room: a Megh Rs 3,499 with Hotel Collection from Rs 2993Open to entrance and dining: that is a connected volume, so Vaayu Rs 11,9994Double height roughly doubles the job - 600 sq ft at 20 ft is about 340 m3
The whole-home answer: the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, app-scheduled, ~1000m³, and it arrives with four hotel-inspired blends in the box. A single bedroom or guest bathroom starts on reeds from ₹749.
1
The question
A room with doors and a floor without them are different purchases
Almost every disappointed buyer in this category made the same mistake, which is answering a question about size when the real question was about doors. Coverage ratings describe one connected body of freely circulating air. A living room that is genuinely enclosed - doors to the passage, doors to the dining, usually shut - is a self-contained volume, often somewhere between 110 and 350 cubic metres, and it is a job a well-chosen ultrasonic does properly and cheaply. A living room that flows into the entrance on one side and the dining on the other, with a stair void above it, is not a room at all from the air's point of view: it is one lung of a much larger space, and putting a room-sized machine into it produces a pleasant zone near the machine and nothing at the front door, which is the part that mattered. So stand in the doorway before you shop. Doors that shut mean the Megh at ₹3,499 is likely enough. No doors mean the Vaayu at ₹11,999 is the machine that will not need replacing in six months.
Tip: buy for the volume of air that is genuinely connected, not for the square footage printed on your floor plan.
2
The arithmetic
Do it on an envelope, and look up before you finish
The conversion takes thirty seconds and it is the only number worth trusting. Multiply the floor area by the ceiling height to get cubic feet, then divide by 35.3 for cubic metres. A 400 sq ft living room at a 10 ft ceiling is 4,000 cubic feet, about 113m³. A 500 sq ft room is 5,000 cubic feet, about 142m³. A 600 sq ft room is 6,000 cubic feet, about 170m³. Now look up, because this is where villas differ from flats: that same 600 sq ft room under a 20 ft double-height ceiling is 12,000 cubic feet, about 340m³ - the height roughly doubles the job while the floor plan says nothing changed. And if the room is open to the rest of the ground floor, add what it is open to: a connected entrance, living, dining and passage totalling 1,200 sq ft at a 10 ft ceiling is 12,000 cubic feet, about 340m³, comfortably inside the Vaayu's approximately 1000m³, which corresponds to roughly 3,500 sq ft of connected air at that height. Two numbers, one envelope, and the machine choice stops being a guess.
3
The placement
Low, out of the draught, and not beside where people sit
Where the machine goes changes the result more than most people believe, and in a large living room three rules cover it. Place it low. Warm air rises, so a unit at console or floor height lets convection lift the fragrance up through the volume for free, which matters enormously in a double-height room where a machine on a high shelf mostly scents the ceiling and the chandelier. Keep it out of the direct blast of a split air-conditioner, because a draught across the output throws everything one way and leaves the rest of the room thin and uneven - near the unit, not under it. And do not put it beside the sofa where people sit for three hours, because the person in that seat gets a concentration nobody else in the room is experiencing, which is how one guest ends up uncomfortable at a dinner where everybody else is fine. It also needs air moving around it, so a sealed cupboard will not work, though a console with an open back or a slatted cabinet is fine and keeps the object out of sight.
Tip: low, out of the draught and away from the sofa - three free decisions worth more than a bigger machine.
The SOSA principle
The question is not how big your living room is. It is whether it has doors - because a coverage rating only ever describes air that is genuinely connected.
An enclosed big room is an honest Rs 3,499 job; a living room open to the entrance and dining is a connected volume and a different machine entirely.

The SOSA home edit

Whatever the house looks like, the logic is the same: one scent, sized to the volume that is genuinely connected, running on a schedule so nobody in the family has to remember it. A single bedroom or a guest bathroom is happy on reeds with no power at all; the living room you actually live in wants a machine; the whole villa with central air-conditioning wants the ducts doing the work. Every SOSA system is made in India, cruelty-free and vegan, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is where each one belongs.

Honest notes before you buy anything. Coverage ratings assume connected air volume. A machine cannot push scent through a closed bedroom door, and it never will - so a partitioned villa is not one scenting problem but several, and honest sizing means saying so out loud rather than selling you one machine and hoping. Scent the volume that is genuinely open to itself, then give the closed rooms their own quiet answer, usually a reed diffuser. Fragrance never substitutes for ventilation or cleaning. If a room smells damp, stale or of last night's cooking, open it, air it and clean it first; scent added on top of that only makes a more complicated bad smell. A home is not a lobby you pass through. Households include children, elderly parents, pregnant family members and pets, all of whom breathe this air far longer than any visitor does, which is why gentle dosing is the default at home and why the settings we suggest are lower than the machine can run. Anyone in the house reporting a headache is a recalibration signal, not a complaint to argue with - turn it down or turn it off, and tell us. The Vaayu runs waterless nebulising oil and comes with the four hotel-inspired blends; the Hotel Collection bottle is water-based and belongs in the ultrasonic machines only. The two formats are not interchangeable. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. ISIPCA
Versailles
A note from Sonal

There is a difference between a room that smells nice and a home that has a signature, and almost nobody is told what it is. A room that smells nice is an event: you light a candle, you spray something in the hallway before people arrive, it is lovely for forty minutes and then it is gone. Somewhere else in the house a bathroom gel is doing one thing, a kitchen spray another, and a bedroom reed a third. Four pleasant smells in four rooms is not a fragranced home. It is four rooms.

A signature is the opposite. It is one scent, sized to the house, running on a schedule - so it is already in the air when someone walks through your front door, and already there at eleven at night when you come home yourself, and nobody has lifted a finger to make it happen. That is the whole trick the great hotels use, and it is not complicated: they do not chase smells room by room, they hold one fragrance across the volume people actually move through. In a villa that usually means the entrance, the living room and the dining as one connected space, with the closed rooms handled separately and quietly.

I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and I have sized this for houses across India, and I would rather tell you honestly that your layout needs two answers than sell you one machine that disappoints you. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with your home's approximate size, the number of floors and a line about the layout - open plan, closed rooms, central air-conditioning or split units - and we will give you a free sizing recommendation. I read those descriptions myself. Everything is made in India, cruelty-free and vegan, and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your home gets a memory; a girl gets a classroom.

Frequently asked questions

Is a Megh at Rs 3,499 genuinely enough for a large living room?
For one genuinely enclosed large living room, yes, and we would rather tell you that than sell you something bigger. The Megh is a 6 litre ultrasonic: it mists a water and fragrance mixture into the room and runs the water-based SOSA Hotel Collection, which is Rs 299 for 15ml, Rs 999 for a 100ml refill, or Rs 1,799 for a pack of seven 15ml bottles if you would rather try the whole range. Two honest caveats. It has a tank, so it needs filling, which is the trade-off against the waterless Vaayu. And it is a room machine: if your living room opens into the entrance and dining, the Megh will make a pleasant zone rather than an evenly scented floor, and the front door - the part that actually matters when guests arrive - will smell of nothing. Doors shut, Megh. Doors absent, Vaayu.
How do I work out my living room's volume?
Multiply the floor area by the ceiling height, then divide by 35.3. A 500 sq ft living room with a 10 ft ceiling is 5,000 cubic feet, which is about 142 cubic metres. A 600 sq ft room at the same height is 6,000 cubic feet, about 170 cubic metres. If your living room is double height at 20 ft, that same 600 sq ft footprint becomes 12,000 cubic feet, about 340 cubic metres - the number roughly doubles even though the floor plan is identical, which is exactly why square-foot claims mislead in a villa. Then make one honest adjustment: if the room has no doors between it and the entrance, dining or passage, add their volumes too, because from the air's point of view they are the same space. That final number is what you compare against any machine's rating, and it is the only comparison worth making.
Where exactly should the machine go in a large living room?
Low, inside the room's air rather than in a corner behind furniture, out of the direct path of a split air-conditioner, and not immediately beside where people sit for hours. Low is deliberate and matters most in double-height rooms: warm air rises, so a unit at console or floor height lets convection carry the fragrance up through the whole volume, whereas a machine on a high shelf largely scents the space above everybody's heads. Away from the draught matters because an air-conditioner blowing across the output pushes it all in one direction and leaves the far side of the room thin. Away from the sofa matters because whoever sits in that seat is getting a dose nobody else in the room is getting. If you want it hidden, a console with an open back or a slatted cabinet works; a fully sealed cupboard does not, because it needs air moving around it.
Will a machine in the living room scent the rest of the ground floor?
As far as the air is connected, and no further - which in an open villa ground floor is often most of it, and in a compartmented one is almost none of it. If the living room runs into the entrance and the dining with no doors, a machine sized for that whole volume will hold all of it at one level, and a stairwell rising out of it will carry some of the scent to the landing above on its own, because a stair void behaves like a chimney and warm air rises. If there are doors between the living room and the passage and they are shut, nothing gets past them at any price. That is not a limitation of a particular brand, it is how air works. The honest answer for the rooms behind the doors is a reed diffuser from Rs 749 or a Boond at Rs 899 in each, which is far cheaper and works better in a sealed room than a second machine down the corridor.
Does an ultrasonic's water cause a problem in a large room?
It is worth knowing about rather than worrying about. An ultrasonic works by misting a water and fragrance mixture, so it adds a small amount of moisture to the room and it has a tank that needs filling and occasional cleaning - which in a humid coastal house in monsoon is a consideration, and in a dry air-conditioned room is often welcome. Keep it off delicate wood surfaces and off anything that would mark, and do not aim it directly at a wall or a painting. The waterless route avoids all of this by design: the Vaayu at Rs 11,999 nebulises undiluted oil with no water and no tank, which is one of the practical reasons people move up to it beyond the coverage. We make no air quality or health claims for either format - this is about upkeep and where the machine sits, nothing more.

The two fragrance formats are not interchangeable, and the Hotel Collection bottle does not go into a Vaayu. SOSA Aangan (₹25,999) and SOSA Meenar (₹38,500) are HVAC nebulising systems for approximately 8,000-10,000 sq ft and 12,000-18,000 sq ft respectively, ducted into central air-conditioning. Reed diffusers need no power and make no noise: Morning Freshness ₹749, Garden Bloom ₹799, Evening Calm ₹799, Mountain Breeze ₹849, Fresh Brew ₹849; 130ml from ₹1,249; duo sets ₹1,498, ₹1,548 and ₹1,598. Scent perception is personal and varies between people in the same room, and coverage figures assume connected air volume rather than a partitioned floor plan. Ventilation, cleaning and air-conditioning come first; fragrance is an addition to a well-kept home and never a substitute for any of them. SOSA blends are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any hotel brand. Made in India, cruelty-free and vegan. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Ongoing fragrance supply is arranged with SOSA on WhatsApp: +91 96192 18531.
