How many people can one Vaayu handle at a Diwali party?
That is the wrong unit and we would rather give you the right one than a number that sounds authoritative and means nothing. A machine is rated for air, not for people: the Vaayu at Rs 11,999 covers approximately 1000 cubic metres of connected air, which at a 10 ft ceiling is a ground floor of roughly 3,500 sq ft, provided that floor is genuinely open to itself. Whether twelve people or eighty are standing in it does not change the cubic metres. What the crowd changes is behaviour - the room gets warmer so the air moves more, and the door opens far more often so the air is exchanged faster - and the correct response to both is an earlier start rather than a bigger machine. So work out your own connected volume with the arithmetic, choose the machine that covers it, run it gently from the middle of the afternoon, and stop thinking about the guest count. Would two machines be better than one for a big Diwali crowd?
Almost never in the same connected volume, and the reason is that they are both scenting the same body of air. If your entrance, living, dining and passage flow into each other, a second unit five metres from the first adds far less than people expect, and it is a straightforward way to spend Rs 23,998 on a room that is now slightly too strong near both machines. The two situations where a second unit genuinely earns its money are different: a genuinely separate volume that stays open and in use - a large enclosed family room across a closed hallway, say, where a Megh at Rs 3,499 is usually the honest cheaper answer - or a second floor that is sealed off from the stairwell. In a two-floor house with an open stair void, one unit placed low near the stair base carries upward on its own, which is better and cheaper than a second machine. And if you want every room in a large villa to match, including the ones behind closed doors, the correct product is not two Vaayus but the Aangan at Rs 25,999 ducted into central air-conditioning.
My ground floor is about 2,500 sq ft. What should I buy for Diwali?
Do the sum: 2,500 sq ft at a 10 ft ceiling is 25,000 cubic feet, which divided by 35.3 is about 708 cubic metres. That sits comfortably inside the Vaayu's approximately 1000 cubic metre rating at Rs 11,999, waterless with a Bluetooth app and timer and four hotel-inspired blends in the box, so one machine is the right answer for the connected part. Two caveats decide whether that number is real. First, ceiling height: if your living room or entrance is double height, that room contributes far more than its floor area suggests - a 600 sq ft room at 20 ft is about 340 cubic metres on its own - and you should place the unit low and give it a longer head start. Second, connection: the 708 figure only counts if those 2,500 sq ft are genuinely open to each other, which on Diwali they usually are because every internal door is propped. Anything that stays shut is a separate problem and takes a reed from Rs 749. Place it low, in the flow, out of the air-conditioner's draught and well away from any diya.
Is a machine worth buying just for Diwali?
Honestly, no - and if that is genuinely the only week it will run, we would rather point you somewhere cheaper. A machine bought for one evening is Rs 11,999 spent on something a well-aired house, a couple of reeds from Rs 749 and disciplined extractor use would largely achieve. Where a machine earns its money is as the ordinary background of the house: running gently on a schedule through ordinary mornings and evenings, so the entrance smells the same on a Tuesday in July as it does on Diwali night, which is what makes a house read as having a character rather than as having been prepared. If you want the festival week specifically to feel considered without that commitment, buy in this order: a reed in the guest bathroom first, because everyone visits it alone; a reed in the hall in the same family; then a Megh at Rs 3,499 with the water-based Hotel Collection from Rs 299 if you want one large room done properly. That is a genuinely good festival setup for a fraction of a machine.
Should I turn the machine up as more people arrive?
No, and this is the single most reliable way to ruin an otherwise good evening. It feels like the right response, because the hall seems flat to you at eight and the room is filling, but two things are happening that make it a mistake. Your own nose adapted hours ago - you have been in this house cooking all day, and the silence you notice is your adaptation rather than the room's emptiness. And a warm crowded room actually carries scent further than the empty cool one you calibrated in, so the setting is already effectively louder than it was, not quieter. Raising it gives you a strong pocket near the machine, thin air at the far end, a room that reads as being actively scented at exactly the moment people walk in with fresh noses, and something well past comfortable by eleven when the last dozen relatives are sitting down. If the room genuinely feels stuffy, open a window or a door - stale warm air is what guests notice, and no fragrance level fixes it. The rule that keeps a house safe: the setting may go down at any time, and only goes up if somebody who does not live there has said they notice nothing.
