Why mustiness peaks in July specifically

If June already has 85% humidity, why does the apartment smell fine in late June and unmistakably musty by July 5th? Three factors stack.

Building thermal lag. Mumbai's walls, especially the brick and lime construction of older buildings, hold their May heat for 14-21 days into the monsoon. While the wall is still warm, condensation does not form. By the first week of July, the wall has cooled below the dew point of the air around it - and condensation begins on every interior surface that was previously dry.

Spore activation curve. Mould colonies need roughly 14 days of continuous 80%+ humidity to reach the metabolic activity that produces detectable MVOCs.
