Before the recommendation, the sentence that saves people money: a refill in the scent you already own is the identical composition, at identical strength, in a larger bottle. It is not a concentrate, there is no professional-strength version, and 300ml of Evening Calm will fill your room exactly as gently as the 50ml did — for eight to eleven months rather than six to eight weeks. If the room was too quiet, the answer is a different number on the strength scale, not a bigger quantity of the same one.
Quick answers — read this first
Buy by number. Fresh Brew 9.5 and Mountain Breeze 9.4 are the two loudest compositions we make; Mountain Breeze is the one with no sweetness in it.

Same scent, same strength. A refill is the same formula as the bottle. Buying 300ml of a quiet composition buys you months of quiet.

The order to buy in: test the stronger scent as a 50ml bottle first (₹749–₹849, six fresh reeds included), then buy the ₹2,399 refill of it once you know. ₹849 + ₹2,399 = ₹3,248 for 350ml.

Why not just refill straight into a new scent: old reeds carry the old composition and will ghost through it. Reeds are not sold separately — they come with bottles.
The short answer
Short answer: if you want a stronger room from a refill, buy Fresh Brew at 9.5/10 or Mountain Breeze at 9.4/10 — ₹2,399 for 300ml or ₹3,499 for 500ml, in the same oil-only format as every other refill. Choose Fresh Brew for warmth and Mountain Breeze if you want that projection with no sweetness anywhere in it. Buying a larger size of the composition you already have will not help; size buys duration, never volume.
The mechanism: a reed diffuser's loudness is set by three things — the composition's own volatility, how much reed surface is exposed, and how well the air around the bottle moves. A refill changes exactly one of those, and only if you change scent with it. That is why the strength scale exists: it is a position on SOSA's own internal scale measured at six reeds in an ordinary Indian room, not an industry standard, not a concentration and not a quality ranking.
Shop: oil refills at ₹2,399 for 300ml (about 8–11 months) and ₹3,499 for 500ml (about 14–18 months), oil only — no vessel and no reeds. Test bottles from ₹749 for 50ml and ₹1,249 for 130ml, each with six fibre reeds. Free shipping above ₹499.
Straight answer
Which SOSA refill should I buy if I want a stronger fragrance?
1. Fresh Brew at 9.5, or Mountain Breeze at 9.4. Those are the two highest-projecting compositions in the reed range and both are available as refills at ₹2,399 for 300ml and ₹3,499 for 500ml. Fresh Brew is Coorg coffee over Kerala vanilla — warm, enveloping, the fullest presence we make. Mountain Breeze is Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar — the loudest thing in the range with no sweetness in it at all.

2. Understand what you are not buying. A refill of the composition you already run is the same formula at the same strength. There is no concentrated version. If your current bottle was too quiet, 300ml of it will be quiet for the better part of a year.

3. Spend the free levers before the money. Flip all six reeds; move the bottle into gentle passing air near a doorway at waist-to-chest height, away from AC vents and out of direct sun; close the room for an hour and walk back in. A great many "weak" bottles are stalled reeds or dead air, and both fixes are free.

4. Test the stronger scent as a bottle before you commit to a refill. A 50ml at ₹849 gives you six to eight weeks and six fresh fibre reeds — and you need those reeds, because the old set carries the old composition and will ghost through a new one. Then buy the refill: ₹849 + ₹2,399 = ₹3,248 for 350ml of a scent you have actually lived with.

5. Do not buy the 500ml as a strength upgrade. It is the same oil as the 300ml, priced better per millilitre — about ₹7 against about ₹8. It buys months, not volume.

6. Know the ceiling and the gaps. Past roughly 250–300 sq ft of connected open space, or if what you want is scent on demand, a Sukoon at ₹1,899 is the honest answer rather than a third bottle. And if "stronger" means oud, musk or an aquatic, we do not make one — I would rather say so than sell you the nearest thing.

Composed and handmade in small batches in Pune, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
TL;DR: Fresh Brew 9.5 or Mountain Breeze 9.4, as a 300ml refill at ₹2,399 or 500ml at ₹3,499. A refill of your current scent is the identical formula and will not be louder. Test the new scent as a 50ml bottle first, because a scent change needs the six fresh reeds a bottle brings — refills are oil only.
SOSA Fresh Brew Coorg coffee and Kerala vanilla reed diffuser
The highest number on our scale
SOSA Fresh Brew · Coorg coffee & Kerala vanilla ₹849 / 50ml
9.5 out of 10 at six reeds, and the fullest presence in the reed range — roasted Coorg coffee over Kerala vanilla, warm rather than sweet, at home in a living room, a kitchen or an office. Buy the 50ml first if you are moving to it from something quieter: six to eight weeks is enough to know, and the six fresh fibre reeds in the box are exactly what a scent change requires. Then refill it at ₹2,399 for 300ml. Strength here is a position on SOSA's own internal scale, not an industry standard or a concentration.

Part one — why more oil is not more fragrance

This is the most expensive misunderstanding in the refill aisle, and it is entirely understandable: in almost every other category, buying the big one gets you more of the thing. Here it does not, because the rate at which a reed diffuser delivers fragrance has nothing to do with how much oil is standing beneath the reeds. Six reeds wick at the rate six reeds wick. A vessel holding 130ml and a vessel holding 50ml of the same composition, with the same six reeds in the same room, produce about the same room. The larger one simply keeps doing it for longer.

1
FACT ONE · THE ONE THAT SAVES MONEY
The refill is the bottle's formula, not a concentrate
Every SOSA refill contains exactly the composition that goes into the corresponding bottle — same fragrance load, same alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free, IFRA-compliant formula on the same heat-stable coconut-derived CCT carrier. There is no trade version, no concentrate and no double-strength option, and I would rather publish that than let someone buy 500ml of Evening Calm at ₹3,499 hoping it will finally fill a living room. It will not; it is the softest composition we make, deliberately, because it is built for bedrooms and nurseries. The refill is a supply decision. The strength decision is a different one, made on the scale, and the two only overlap when you change scent at the same time.
The rule: if the 50ml was too quiet, the 300ml of the same scent is too quiet for 8–11 months.
2
FACT TWO · WHERE STRENGTH ACTUALLY LIVES
Buy by number, and know what the number is
SOSA Mountain Breeze reed diffuserMountain Breeze₹849 · 9.4/10We publish a strength figure for every reed composition because a note list tells you nothing about how loud something is in a room. Fresh Brew 9.5, Mountain Breeze 9.4, Morning Freshness 9.0, Garden Bloom and Evening Calm 8.9 — measured at six reeds, in an ordinary Indian room, on our own internal scale. It is not an industry standard, not a concentration and not a ranking of quality; a 9.5 is not better than an 8.9, it is louder, and loud is wrong for a nursery. When someone asks which refill is strongest, this is the whole answer: the refill inherits the number of the composition inside it, so choosing a refill for strength means choosing a scent for strength.
The distinction: Fresh Brew reads warmer and fuller; Mountain Breeze reads drier and more carrying. Same neighbourhood, different rooms.
3
FACT THREE · THE CATCH IN BUYING A LOUDER REFILL
A new scent needs new reeds, and refills have none
Here is the awkward part of this particular purchase, stated before you spend rather than after. If you move from Evening Calm to Mountain Breeze by pouring a refill into your existing vessel, the six reeds standing in it have spent months absorbing lavender and chamomile, and they will keep delivering it underneath the pine for a fortnight or more. A clean change needs a fresh set of six — and we do not sell reeds separately, so the only source is a bottle. That is why the buying order on this page starts with a 50ml at ₹749–₹849 rather than a ₹2,399 refill: the bottle is the reed supply, the test drive and the first six to eight weeks all at once, and the refill follows once you are certain.

Part two — the five refills, by number

All five compositions are available in both refill sizes at the same price, so this is purely a choice of character and loudness. The last column is the one people forget: whether the change you are making needs a fresh set of reeds to land properly.

Refills ranked by projection
Which oil to put in your vessel if you want more presence
Refill composition Strength at six reeds What it changes in the room Refill prices Needs new reeds?
Fresh Brew ★ 9.5 · warm-deep The fullest, most enveloping presence in the range ₹2,399 / 300ml · ₹3,499 / 500ml Yes, if you are switching to it
Mountain Breeze 9.4 · deep woody Carries as far, dry and grounding, no sweetness at all ₹2,399 / 300ml · ₹3,499 / 500ml Yes, if you are switching to it
Morning Freshness 9.0 · bright Cold and sharp — often reads louder than it measures ₹2,399 / 300ml · ₹3,499 / 500ml Yes — and it shows residue worst of all
Garden Bloom 8.9 · floral Rounded and hotel-like; presence without insistence ₹2,399 / 300ml · ₹3,499 / 500ml Yes, if you are switching to it
Evening Calm 8.9 · softest Deliberately quiet — never buy this one for strength ₹2,399 / 300ml · ₹3,499 / 500ml Yes, if you are switching to it
The honest caveat: every row that says "yes" needs six fibre reeds we do not sell on their own. A refill is oil only — no vessel, no reeds — so a change of composition should begin with a 50ml bottle from ₹749, which brings the reeds with it. And if what you mean by stronger is oud, a musk-forward scent or an aquatic, none of these rows is your answer: the reed range has no oud, no musk and no aquatic, and stretching Mountain Breeze to stand in for oud would be a disservice to both of us.

Test the number, then buy the volume
The SOSA principle
A refill changes how long, and only changes how loud if you change the scent with it.
Same composition, same number, same room — for eight to eleven months instead of six to eight weeks. Choose the number first and the size second, never the other way round.

Part three — the one thing a refill genuinely does for strength

There is a real connection between refills and a louder room, and it is not the one people expect. Reed count is the only true volume control on this format, and it costs bottle life roughly in proportion. Six reeds is the calibrated dose every composition is written for. Nine gives you an audibly fuller room and something nearer five weeks than eight on a 50ml; ten is about as far as the format goes and finishes a 50ml in roughly four to five weeks. That is a fair trade for a festive month or a week of guests, and an expensive one to keep up all year — which is precisely where the refill earns its place. At about ₹8 per millilitre (₹2,399 ÷ 300) instead of ₹15–₹17 for a fresh 50ml, running ten reeds stops being extravagant.

Do the arithmetic before you plan around it, because running hard shortens the refill too. A 300ml is six fills of a 50ml vessel; at the calibrated six reeds that is roughly 36 to 48 weeks, which is where the 8–11 months on the product page comes from. Push to ten reeds and each fill runs four to five weeks instead, so the same 300ml covers something closer to 24 to 30 weeks — six or seven months rather than eight to eleven. Nothing has gone wrong; you are simply spending the oil faster in exchange for a louder room. Knowing the exchange rate before you buy is the entire skill, and it is the reason I would rather publish reed-count arithmetic than let anyone conclude the refill underdelivered.

And then the ceiling, which I would rather name than let you find by spending. If you have flipped all six reeds, moved the bottle into passing air, run nine or ten reeds and moved up to a 9.5 composition, and the room still is not what you pictured, the format is the limit rather than the fragrance. That happens most often past roughly 250 to 300 square feet of connected open volume, and it happens whenever what you actually want is scent on demand — before guests arrive, after cooking, some evenings and not others. A reed diffuser cannot surge; it is constant, passive and deliberately low, and no refill changes that. The honest product at that point is the Sukoon at ₹1,899, covering 270–320 sq ft with a remote and timers, and it takes the water-based Hotel Collection rather than reed oil — the two are never interchangeable. Most homes end up running both formats, and that is not a failure of either.

The refill answers "for how long". Only the number on the scale answers "how loud".

Part four — the buying order, cheapest step first

Four situations, and the order I would work through them. Note that the first two columns cost nothing at all, and a good share of people never reach the fourth.

Honest notes for buyers: strength figures on this page are positions on SOSA's own internal scale, measured at six reeds in an ordinary Indian room — not an industry standard, not a concentration and not a quality ranking. A refill in the same composition is the same formula as the bottle and will not project harder; there is no concentrated version. Refills are oil only — no glass vessel and no reeds — and reeds are not sold as a separate item, so a change of scent should start with a bottle. Per-millilitre figures are arithmetic on listed prices: ₹2,399 ÷ 300ml ≈ ₹8 and ₹3,499 ÷ 500ml ≈ ₹7, against ₹749 ÷ 50ml ≈ ₹15 and ₹849 ÷ 50ml ≈ ₹17. Reed-count durations are working guidance, not measurements. The reed range has no oud, no musk-forward composition and no aquatic. Reed oil never goes into a Sukoon or Boond, and the water-based Hotel Collection never goes into a reed bottle. Stand the bottle on a tray, keep it out of direct sun and away from children and pets. Composed and handmade in small batches in Pune, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
SOSA reed diffuser oil refill 300ml and 500ml
What makes a loud bottle affordable
SOSA reed diffuser refill · oil only ₹2,399 / 300ml
Once you have chosen your number, this is how you keep it running. Roughly ₹8 per millilitre (₹2,399 ÷ 300) against about ₹15–₹17 for a fresh 50ml, which is what makes nine or ten reeds a reasonable habit rather than an indulgence. Six fills of a 50ml vessel — about 8–11 months at the calibrated six reeds, nearer six or seven if you run it hard. The 500ml at ₹3,499 works out closer to ₹7 per millilitre. Oil only: your vessel, your reeds, the same composition as the bottle.

A note from Sonal

I could make a louder refill tomorrow and it would sell. You raise the volatile fraction, or you carry the fragrance on a phthalate solvent that pushes it off the reed hard. Both win the first week convincingly. Both also come back to you by week six as a fragrance that has gone thin and slightly acrid, particularly once a Delhi or Ahmedabad summer gets into the bottle. Our range sits on a heat-stable CCT base instead, which means a smaller opening and a longer, flatter plateau, and I would rather state that trade plainly than win an argument in week one.

Which leaves the honest levers, and there are only three: the number on the scale, how many reeds you stand in the bottle, and where the bottle sits. A refill touches the first of those and only when you change composition. I would rather you knew that before ₹2,399 leaves your account than discover it in month two.

The 9.5 and the 9.4 are genuinely loud for this format, and for most Indian rooms they are enough. When they are not, the answer is a second bottle or a different format, not a heroic version of this one. Everything is composed and handmade in Pune, and a part of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Which SOSA reed diffuser refill is the strongest?
Fresh Brew at 9.5/10, then Mountain Breeze at 9.4/10, both ₹2,399 for 300ml and ₹3,499 for 500ml. Fresh Brew is warm and enveloping; Mountain Breeze carries as far with no sweetness in it. Both figures are positions on our own internal scale at six reeds, not an industry standard.
Is a 500ml refill stronger than a 300ml?
No — it is the same oil in a larger quantity, at a better price per millilitre (about ₹7 against about ₹8). Size buys duration, never projection: 14–18 months against 8–11. Buy the larger one because you are certain of the scent, not because you want a louder room.
Will refilling my diffuser make it smell stronger again?
It restores the level you had at the start of the last bottle, which often feels like an improvement, but it does not exceed it. If the room was already too quiet with fresh oil, more of the same composition will not fix it. Check the reeds first — a set that has darkened and stiffened will hold a new refill back — and then change the number rather than the volume.
Can I pour a stronger refill over my existing reeds?
You can, but the old reeds carry the previous composition inside the fibre and will report it underneath the new one for a fortnight or more — worst when moving from a rich scent to a light one. A clean change wants six fresh reeds, and because we do not sell reeds separately that means buying a 50ml bottle from ₹749 first, then refilling once it runs out.
Do you make an oud or a musk refill?
No. The reed range has no oud, no musk-forward composition and no aquatic — five scents, and those are honest gaps rather than an oversight. If oud is what you are after, Mountain Breeze at 9.4 is the deepest woody thing we make but it is pine, sage and cedar, and I would not sell it to you as a substitute.
