What is nose-blindness? Your nose adapts to a constant smell and filters it out. It is normal. Rotating two or three scents keeps each one noticeable.
Do I need many scents? A small wardrobe of two or three - one fresh, one calm, one warm - covers most moods and seasons. Start with 15ml bottles to find your favourites.
The three signals to switch
As a perfumer this is one of my favourite questions, because the answer is not really about the bottle - it is about your nose. Three signals tell you it is time.
One: it fades. The simplest signal. A few drops of water-based fragrance scent a room for a good while, but when the throw truly drops off, just top up the tank. You are not changing the scent, only refreshing it.
Two: the season or mood turns. A bright citrus that felt perfect in May can feel thin in December. As the weather cools I move to warmer, woodier scents - the St. Regis-inspired amber, or Quiet Luxury's white tea and cedar. In the heat I go the other way, towards the Four Seasons-inspired citrus or a clean white tea.
Nose-blindness catches almost everyone out. People message me sure their diffuser has failed - it is misting fine, they just cannot smell it any more. Step outside for a few minutes and come back, and it returns. The lasting fix is to rotate scents so your nose keeps meeting something it has not adapted to.
Three: you go nose-blind. This is the one worth planning for. Rotating two or three scents - say, a fresh one, a calm one and a warm one - means each stays noticeable because you are not living with any single one long enough to tune it out.
Building a scent wardrobe
You do not need a shelf of bottles. A small, deliberate wardrobe does more work than a big random one. Here is how I think about it.

Versailles
I trained as a perfumer at ISIPCA in Versailles, but half the questions we get are not about scent at all - they are about the machine. Indian rooms are bone-dry from AC and winter, and most gadget diffusers are too small, too loud, or quit by midnight.
