Switch on a demo chimney and hold a hand under it. That is several hundred cubic metres of air an hour going through the filters and out - and every trace of fragrance in that zone going with it. A running hood is the most effective scent-removal device on your floor, and the whole trick is to stop treating that as a problem.
Quick answers — read this first
What should a high-end chimney and hob showroom smell like? Like the approach to a beautifully kept kitchen: dry cedar, sage and light woods, or lemon and mint on a white, glass floor, held low and sourced from the wall opposite the hood run. The zone directly under the chimneys on demo will smell of nothing, because a running hood pulls the air in its zone through its filters and out, fragrance included. That is correct and should be left alone. Nothing edible anywhere, because the hobs beneath those hoods will be lit.

Why can I not smell the fragrance near the chimneys? Because the chimneys are working. A demo hood on its middle setting moves hundreds of cubic metres of air an hour; whatever fragrance drifts into its zone is captured and exhausted before anyone smells it. Turning the machine up to compensate over-scents the approach and the reception without changing the hood zone at all. Place the source on the far wall, let the hoods strip their own zone, and judge the level from the reception side, not from under a running chimney.

What does SOSA recommend for this floor? From about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor, one SOSA Vaayu (Rs 11,999) mounted high on the wall opposite the hood run, on the AC supply path, so the fragrance crosses the approach and thins toward the chimneys. A Mountain Breeze reed (Rs 849) at the reception desk for a small showroom. Past about 3,000 sq ft, one SOSA Angaan (Rs 25,999). Fragrance is an interiors decision like lighting - SOSA makes no claim that it changes footfall, dwell time or sales, and no claim about what it does to any chimney, hob or filter.
The short answer
Short answer: like the approach to a kitchen, not the kitchen: dry cedar and sage, low, from the far wall. A running chimney on demo strips fragrance from its own zone, which is correct - scent the approach, leave the hood wall to the hoods, and never turn up to fight extraction.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) wall-mounted high on the wall opposite the chimney run, from about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor; a Mountain Breeze reed (₹849) at the reception desk for a small showroom; one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) past about 3,000 sq ft.
Next step: send a plan with the hood run, which chimneys are ducted out and which recirculate, and the AC supply marked - ask for a showroom scenting plan and we will mark the far wall.

Straight answer
What should a high-end chimney and hob showroom smell like?
Like the approach to a kitchen, and not like the kitchen. On most appliance floors that distinction is a nicety; on a chimney floor it is physics. A chimney showroom has a wall - sometimes two - of hoods on demonstration, and at any point in the day several of them are running so that a visitor can hear the motor, feel the pull and watch the light. Each of those hoods on its middle setting is moving several hundred cubic metres of air an hour through its filters and either out through a duct or back into the room through carbon. Whatever ambient fragrance drifts into that zone is captured and gone before anyone at nose height has met it. A running chimney is the most effective scent-removal device on your floor, and it is doing exactly what it was built to do. The mistake, and I see it on almost every chimney floor I visit, is to treat that as a fault in the fragrance. The advisor stands under the demo hoods, smells nothing, and turns the machine up. Now the reception is too much, the corridor is too much, the specification table is too much, and the hood zone still smells of nothing because the hoods are still running. Turning up to fight extraction is the single most expensive error in this vertical, and the fix is entirely a matter of where you put the source and where you judge it from. So: scent the approach, not the hood wall. The source goes on the wall opposite the chimney run, mounted high, on the wall the AC supply crosses, so that the fragrance travels across the entrance, the reception, the corridor and the display sets and thins as it nears the hoods - which is the direction the hoods are pulling anyway. The zone under a running chimney smells of nothing, and that is correct; it is the demonstration working. The level is set from the reception side, at the specification table, by the advisor who stands there nine hours a day, never from beneath a hood. Why the fragrance disappears when the AC runs and why fragrance is strong in one zone and weak in another are the same lesson at the scale of the building; the air-conditioner experience centre is the same lesson for a different appliance that moves air. Then the register, which on this floor has one extra reason to be dry. The hobs beneath those hoods will be lit at some point - a demo of the extraction is a demo of something cooking under it - so nothing edible in the air, ever: no vanilla, coffee, caramel or spice, because the smell of what is on the hob is the demonstration and an edible ambient note is competition for it. What remains is cedar, sage, dry pine, light woods, a clean mineral note for a floor in steel, graphite and dark glass, or lemon and mint for a white, glass approach - Mountain Breeze and Morning Freshness in the SOSA range - held low because every surface here is hard. The oven and hob experience centre is the sibling page for the demo itself: machine off before the chef arrives, extraction during and after, back on when the room smells of nothing. On the ladder: a reed at the reception desk for a small showroom; from about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, waterless, timer, key-lock, wall or HVAC mounted on the far wall; past about 3,000, one Angaan at ₹25,999, never two Vaayus in the same air - one signature scent vs multiple zones is the pillar on that. And through all of it: fragrance is an interiors decision, like lighting or music. SOSA makes no claim that it changes footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales, and no claim about what it does to any chimney, filter, hob or finish. It is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or extraction - on this floor it is literally surrounded by extraction - and the demo zone stays unscented. Ask for a showroom scenting plan and we will mark the far wall.
The approach, not the hood wall: a running chimney strips fragrance from its zone, correctly, so the source sits high on the wall opposite the hoods and the level is judged from the reception, never from under a hood. Dry cedar and sage, low, nothing edible. Vaayu Rs 11,999 from about 1,500 sq ft; never turn up to fight extraction.
For a connected floor of roughly 1,500-3,000 sq ft with a chimney run on one wall, one SOSA Vaayu - waterless, 1000m³, timer and key-lock - at ₹11,999, mounted high on the opposite wall on the AC supply path.

What a chimney and hob showroom runs on

Two honest answers by connected floor area. On this floor the mount matters as much as the coverage, because the wall you choose is the whole placement decision.

SOSA Vaayu
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³ - about 2,000-3,000 sq ft - on one unit, Rs 11,999. Wall or HVAC mount so it sits high on the wall opposite the chimney run, not by the nearest socket; 1h/4h/8h/24h timer so it is off while a hob demo runs; adjustable intensity; key-lock so nobody standing under a hood turns it up; under 38dB; no water, so no added humidity and no residue.

Five things a running chimney does to the air on your floor

A chimney floor is the only showroom where the merchandise is built to remove smells. Here is what that does to a fragrance, what to do about it, and the one thing never to do.

1
Extraction
A demo hood on its middle setting empties its zone of fragrance
Put a number on it. A domestic chimney on a middle setting moves several hundred cubic metres of air an hour; on boost, more. A demo wall with three or four hoods running is exhausting or filtering a volume of air every few minutes that is comparable to the whole zone in front of it. Any fragrance that drifts in is captured - by the carbon filter if the hood recirculates, by the duct if it is vented out - and it is gone before it reaches anyone standing there. This is not a weakness in the fragrance and not a weakness in the machine. It is the product demonstration working, and the smell of nothing under the hood is the thing being sold. The right response is to accept it completely and place the source where the hoods are not. Why the fragrance disappears when the AC runs covers the same mechanism at the scale of the building's own extraction.
Test: stand under a running demo hood and smell nothing. That is the correct result. Now walk to the reception desk; that is where the level is judged.
2
The trap
Turning up to fight the hoods over-scents everything except the hoods
Here is how a chimney floor goes wrong. An advisor stands under the demo wall, notices the fragrance is absent, and nudges the machine up a step. Nothing changes under the hoods, because the hoods are still running and still capturing whatever arrives. But the reception, the corridor and the specification table - none of which have a chimney above them - are now a step too much. Next week someone nudges it again. Within a month the approach smells like a fragrance counter and the hood zone still smells of nothing, and the owner concludes that fragrance does not work on this floor. It does; it was judged from the wrong place. Never set the level from under a hood. Never turn up to compensate for extraction. The key-lock on the Vaayu is the practical answer: the level is set once, from the reception side, with the team, and locked. How strong fragrance should be inside a premium appliance experience centre is the level page for the whole vertical.
Rule: if the machine has been turned up since it was installed, the reason was almost certainly a running hood. Turn it back and lock it.
3
Placement
The far wall, high, on the AC supply path - thinning toward the hoods
With the trap named, placement almost draws itself. The source goes on the wall opposite the chimney run - the reception wall, usually - mounted high, above the line of the tall units and displays, on the wall the AC supply crosses. The fragrance then travels across the entrance approach, the reception, the corridors and the display sets, and thins as it nears the hoods, which is the direction the running hoods are pulling it anyway. The hood zone smells of nothing; the approach smells of a kept kitchen; the gradient between them is gentle and nobody notices the transition. If the floor also has a working demo kitchen, the same far wall usually serves both purposes. If it has a refrigeration run, the wall opposite the fridges is usually the same wall as well; the built-in refrigerator display covers that overlap. The wall and HVAC mount on the Vaayu is what makes this a choice rather than an accident of where the sockets are; where the scent machine goes when the showroom has a live kitchen works the plan through for the demo case.
SOSA Vaayu
The Vaayu mounts high on the wall you choose, holds one level under a key-lock, and adds no water to the room.
See SOSA Vaayu →
4
Recirculating hoods
Carbon filters capture fragrance too - and a saturated filter is the brand's business
Not every demo chimney is ducted to the outside. Many showroom hoods run in recirculation mode, pulling air through a carbon filter and returning it to the room, and a visitor asks a fair question: does the fragrance end up in the filter? Some of it will, in the same way that anything else in the air does; that is what a carbon filter is for. Whether that matters to the filter's life, its performance or anything else about the hood is a question for the brand that makes it, and SOSA makes no claim about it in either direction. What can be said about the machine is one thing: the Vaayu is waterless and adds no moisture to the air the hoods are handling, and leaves no residue on any surface. On the placement side, recirculating hoods change nothing: they still strip their own zone, they still return filtered air to the room, and the source still belongs on the far wall.
Rule: if a supplier tells you what their fragrance does to a chimney filter, in either direction, they are guessing on the brand's behalf.
5
The hob beneath
Nothing edible - the demo of a chimney is a demo of something cooking
Every chimney on a demo wall has a hob under it, and the best demonstrations light the hob: a pan of something aromatic, the hood switched on, the visitor watching the smell disappear. That is the sale. It also means the register on this floor carries the same hard exclusion as every kitchen-appliance floor in this family: nothing edible in the ambient air, ever. Vanilla, coffee, caramel, warm spice - any of them is a second food smell in a room whose demonstration is the first one, and the two combine into a third nobody chose. What remains is the dry register: cedar, sage, dry pine, light woods, a clean mineral note, or lemon and mint on a white approach - Mountain Breeze and Morning Freshness. And during the demo itself the machine is off, on the timer or with one press, and comes back only when the room smells of nothing; the oven and hob experience centre writes that rhythm out in full.
Refills: the four 100ml bottles in the Vaayu box are the supply; confirm refill availability with SOSA before you plan the year.
The SOSA principle
A running chimney is a scent-removal system, and on a chimney floor it is the merchandise. Scent the approach, leave the hood wall to the hoods, and never turn up to fight extraction.
Judged from the reception, never from under a hood. The far wall, high, on the AC path. Nothing edible beneath a lit hob.
SOSA Vaayu
On the far wall, high, where the hoods cannot reach it: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999, waterless, timer and key-lock, up to 1000m³ of connected floor.

From the door to the hood wall: where the scent is and where it is not

The same answer walked across a chimney floor, from the entrance to the demo wall. Mark the hoods, note which are ducted and which recirculate, and the far wall picks itself.

The specification table
Un-nameable. This is where the level is judged - at five in the afternoon, by the advisor who has stood there all day.
Under the demo chimneys while they run
Nothing. The hoods strip their own zone, correctly. Do not compensate; do not judge the level from here.
Under a lit hob during a demonstration
Nothing, and the machine is off. Whatever is cooking is the only smell on the floor; extraction clears it afterwards.
Back store and unboxing
Nothing, door closed. Cardboard, filter packaging and new-plastic smell are ventilation problems, never fragrance ones.

The rest of the family handles the other walls of a built-in floor: what a built-in kitchen showroom should smell like sets the standard, multiple real kitchens deals with partitions and a single source, and one signature scent vs multiple zones is the pillar that ties them together. What a premium appliance showroom should smell like is where the cluster begins. SOSA makes no claim that any of this changes footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales.

The hood zone does not appear in this table because the hoods scent it with nothing, and that is correct. Between 750 and 1,500 sq ft a Vaayu is bought for control, no water and distribution - never for coverage. Fragrance here is an interiors decision like lighting or music, with no claim about footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales, and no claim about what it does to any chimney, filter, hob or finish. A note from Sonal

Chimney floors are where I have seen the most fragrance wasted, and the pattern is always the same. The machine is installed, someone walks under the demo wall, smells nothing, and turns it up. A week later, again. By the time I am called the reception smells like a perfume counter and the hood zone still smells of nothing, because the hoods have been running the whole time and a running hood captures whatever reaches it. That is not a fault. It is a chimney doing exactly what your visitor is there to see it do.

So the first thing I do on a chimney floor is move where the level is judged. Not under a hood - never under a hood - but at the reception desk, at the specification table, by the advisor who stands there all day. Then I move the source to the wall opposite the hoods, high, on the AC path, so the fragrance crosses the approach and thins toward the demo wall in the direction the hoods are already pulling. And I lock it. The key-lock on the Vaayu exists for exactly the advisor who means well and stands under a running chimney.

The register is the same as every kitchen-appliance floor: dry cedar and sage, or lemon and mint on a white approach, and nothing edible, because the hob under that hood is going to be lit. A Mountain Breeze reed at the reception desk for a small showroom; one Vaayu at ₹11,999 from about 1,500 sq ft; one Angaan past about 3,000. And always: no claim that fragrance moves footfall, dwell time or sales, and no claim about what it does to any chimney, filter or hob. It is an interiors decision, like lighting or music, never a substitute for extraction - on this floor it is surrounded by it - and the demo zone stays unscented. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Why is there no fragrance at all under the demo chimneys in my showroom?
Because the chimneys are running. A demo hood on a middle setting moves several hundred cubic metres of air an hour through its filters or duct, and any fragrance that drifts into its zone is captured and gone before anyone at nose height meets it. That is the product demonstration working, not a fault in the fragrance or the machine. Leave the hood zone to smell of nothing and judge the level from the reception side instead.
Should the scent machine be turned up to compensate for running range hoods?
No, and this is the most expensive mistake on a chimney floor. Turning up changes nothing under the hoods, because they are still capturing whatever arrives, but it pushes the reception, the corridor and the specification table a step too much - and then another step next week. Set the level once from the reception side with the team, lock it with the key-lock on the SOSA Vaayu, and accept that the hood zone belongs to the hoods.
On which wall does the scent machine belong in a chimney and hob showroom?
The wall opposite the chimney run - usually the reception wall - mounted high, above the line of the tall units, on the wall the AC supply crosses. The fragrance then travels across the approach and the display sets and thins toward the hoods, which is the direction the running hoods are pulling it anyway. The SOSA Vaayu wall and HVAC mount is what makes that wall a choice rather than an accident of where the sockets are.
Do recirculating chimneys with carbon filters capture the showroom fragrance?
Some of it, in the same way they capture anything else in the air passing through them; that is what a carbon filter is for. Whether that matters to the filter's life or to the hood in any way is a question for the brand that makes it, and SOSA makes no claim about it in either direction. The only product fact stated is that the SOSA Vaayu is waterless, adds no moisture to the air the hoods handle, and leaves no residue.
Which fragrance suits a chimney showroom where the hobs are lit for demonstrations?
A dry register with nothing edible in it: cedar, sage, dry pine, light woods and a clean mineral note - Mountain Breeze in the SOSA range - for steel, graphite and dark-glass floors, or lemon and mint from Morning Freshness on a white, glass approach. Held low, because every surface is hard. During a hob demonstration the machine is off, on the timer or with one press, and returns only when the room smells of nothing.
