Stand in front of a wall of built-in refrigeration with the doors open and you can feel it on your shins: cold air falling out of the cabinets and pooling on the floor. Behind the panels, compressors push warm air the other way. That wall moves air all day, and a fragrance placed anywhere near it is scattered before anyone smells it.
Quick answers — read this first
What fragrance works for a luxury built-in refrigerator display? A dry, clean register held low: cedar, sage and a mineral note for a display in steel, graphite and dark glass; lemon and mint for a white, glass-fronted one. The guide is that a new refrigerator's interior smells of nothing, and the display around it should smell of almost nothing - a beautifully kept kitchen, not a fragrance. Nothing sweet, nothing warm, and nothing edible, because it is still a kitchen-appliance floor.

Where does the scent source go when the display has open fridge doors? On the opposite side of the floor from the cold wall, mounted high, where the AC supply carries it across the room. Open doors spill cold air that sinks and pools; compressor vents push warm air out at the back and top; both scatter a source placed near them. Do not turn up to compensate for the cold wall smelling of nothing - that zone is meant to.

Does fragrance do anything to a refrigerator? SOSA makes no claim either way. The only product fact is that the SOSA Vaayu (Rs 11,999) is waterless: it adds no moisture to the room and leaves no residue on surfaces. What room humidity or anything else in the air means for a particular refrigerator is a question for the brand that makes it. Fragrance here is an interiors decision like lighting - no claim about footfall, dwell time or sales.
The short answer
Short answer: a dry cedar or lemon-mint register, low, sourced from the far side of the floor - never near the cold wall, where open doors spill sinking cold air and compressors push warm air out. The cold wall will smell of nothing; that is correct. Waterless is the only product fact.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) mounted high on the wall opposite the refrigeration run, from about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor; a Mountain Breeze reed (₹849) at the desk for a small studio; one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) past about 3,000 sq ft.
Next step: send a plan with the refrigeration run, the compressor vent positions and the AC supply marked - ask for a showroom scenting plan and we will mark the far wall.

A refrigeration wall is a machine for moving air. Place the scent as if it were a draught, which is what it is.
Straight answer
What fragrance works for a luxury built-in refrigerator display?
A dry, clean register, held low, and sourced from the far side of the floor. Take the two halves in turn, because the second is where refrigerator displays go wrong. The register first. The right reference point for a fridge display is the inside of a new refrigerator, which smells of nothing at all, and the kitchen around it, which smells of a beautifully kept home: cedar, sage, dry pine, a clean mineral note for a run of integrated doors in steel, graphite or dark glass, and lemon and mint for a white, glass-fronted wall. Nothing sweet, nothing warm, nothing powdery - and because this is still a kitchen-appliance floor, nothing edible: no vanilla, no coffee, nothing that reads as food near a machine whose whole job is storing it. What a built-in kitchen showroom should smell like sets that rule for the family. Now the placement, which on this floor matters more than the scent. A wall of built-in refrigeration is a machine for moving air. Open the doors - and on a display floor they are open much of the day - and cold air falls out of the cabinets, sinks, and pools across the floor in front of them; you can feel it on your shins. Behind and above the panels, the compressors push warm air out through their vents. The result is a wall that draws air toward it low down and pushes it away high up, all day, and a fragrance source placed anywhere near it is scattered before anyone smells it. So the source goes on the opposite side of the floor, mounted high, on the wall the AC supply crosses, and the fragrance is carried across the room toward the cold wall rather than fighting it. The zone directly in front of the open doors will smell of very little. That is correct. It is the same principle as a running chimney or a display air-conditioner: the chimney and hob showroom and the air-conditioner experience centre make the same argument for their own appliances, and the answer is always to place for the air movement, never to turn up against it. Then the level: hard surfaces everywhere - steel, glass, stone - so a step down from any other retail, set for the advisor who stands there nine hours, un-nameable at the specification table. Now the machine, and here I want to be precise, because refrigerator displays attract more nonsense than any other kind. There is exactly one product fact to state: the SOSA Vaayu is waterless. It adds no moisture to the room and leaves no residue on any surface. That is all. SOSA makes no claim about what fragrance does to a refrigerator - in either direction - and whether room humidity or anything else in the air matters to a particular cabinet is a question for the brand that built it. If a supplier tells you otherwise, they are selling. On the ladder: for a studio under about 750 sq ft, a Mountain Breeze or Morning Freshness reed at the desk; a SOSA Sukoon is a fair option at that size too, with the honest note that it is water-based and adds a little moisture, which is exactly the thing worth saying plainly on a floor of appliances. From about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor, one Vaayu at ₹11,999, waterless, timer, key-lock, wall or HVAC mount on the far wall. Past about 3,000, one Angaan at ₹25,999; one signature scent vs multiple zones is the pillar on why not two Vaayus. And through all of it: fragrance is an interiors decision, like lighting or music. SOSA makes no claim that it changes footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales, and no claim about what it does to any appliance or finish. It is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or extraction, and any demo or tasting zone on the floor stays unscented. Ask for a showroom scenting plan and we will mark the far wall.
A dry cedar or lemon-mint register, low, sourced high on the wall opposite the refrigeration run - open doors spill sinking cold air and compressors push warm air out, so nothing goes near the cold wall. Waterless is the only product fact; no claim about the fridge. Vaayu Rs 11,999 from about 1,500 sq ft.
For a connected floor of roughly 1,500-3,000 sq ft with a refrigeration run on one wall, one SOSA Vaayu - waterless, 1000m³, timer and key-lock - at ₹11,999, mounted high on the opposite wall.

What a refrigerator display runs on

Two honest answers by connected floor area. The one product fact that matters on this floor - waterless - is on the first card.

SOSA Vaayu
From about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor
SOSA Vaayu
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³ - about 2,000-3,000 sq ft - on one unit, Rs 11,999. No water, so no added humidity and no residue - the only product fact stated here. 1h/4h/8h/24h timer; adjustable intensity; key-lock; under 38dB; wall or HVAC mount so it sits high on the wall opposite the refrigeration run rather than by the nearest socket.
From ₹11,999
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
A studio under about 750 sq ft
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar - dry, and the right foil for a wall of brushed steel. Alcohol-free, six fibre reeds, flip weekly. 50ml Rs 849 lasts 6-8 weeks; 130ml Rs 1,349 lasts 14-18 weeks. Reaches one desk zone - and the desk is where it goes, not the plinth in front of the fridges.
From ₹849
SOSA Vaayu
Waterless - the one product fact for a refrigeration floor
SOSA Vaayu Waterless Diffuser
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft) on a single unit, Rs 11,999, adjustable intensity, 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, key-lock. Wall or HVAC mount so the source sits high on the far wall from the cold wall. CE, RoHS, SGS certified. Made in India.

Five things a wall of refrigeration does to the air

A refrigeration display is unusual in that the merchandise itself moves the air. Here is what it does, what that means for placement, and the one thing SOSA will and will not say about it.

1
Cold spill
Open doors drop cold air that sinks and pools
Cold air is denser than the air around it. Open a built-in refrigerator door and the cold inside does not hang there; it falls out, rolls across the floor in front of the cabinet and pools low, and on a display floor where the doors stand open for a demonstration or a browse it does this all day. A fragrance source placed near that wall - a reed on the plinth, a machine on the nearest socket - is caught in that slow downward draught, pulled to the floor and carried away along it. The visitor at nose height smells nothing, so somebody turns the machine up, and now the far side of the room is too much while the cold wall is still empty. The fix is never strength. It is distance and height: the source on the far wall, high, carried across the room toward the refrigeration run by the AC supply. Why fragrance is strong in one zone and weak in another works the gradient through for every kind of draught on a showroom floor.
Test: stand in front of the open doors and then at the far wall. If the far wall is the only place you can name the scent, the placement is right - not too weak.
2
Compressor warmth
Vents push warm air out behind and above the cabinets
While the front of the wall is dropping cold air, the back is doing the opposite. Compressors and condensers vent warm air through grilles at the back, top or plinth of each cabinet, and a run of eight or ten built-in units is a line of small warm updraughts along one wall. Warm air rises and takes anything in it upward and outward, which means a source placed above or behind the run is lifted to the ceiling and away from the floor before it has crossed the room. Between the cold spill at the front and the warm vent at the back, a refrigeration wall is the worst place on the floor to put a fragrance source, and the best place on the floor to put nothing. This is the same lesson as every running demo appliance in this cluster: the merchandise moves air, that is correct, and the scent is placed for it rather than against it. Why the fragrance disappears when the AC runs is the same physics one scale up.
Rule: the zone in front of a working refrigeration wall is meant to smell of nothing. Do not spend anything trying to change that.
3
The far wall
High, opposite the run, on the wall the AC supply crosses
So where does it go? Three coordinates. Opposite: the source sits on the side of the floor the refrigeration run does not touch, so the cold spill and the compressor updraught are the last things it meets rather than the first. High: mounted above the line of the tall units and displays, so the fragrance is carried rather than trapped in whichever display it happens to be nearest. And on the AC path: the wall the supply crosses, so the fragrance moves across the reception and the display sets and toward the cold wall, where it will thin - as it should. If the floor has a working demo kitchen as well, the same wall usually serves both purposes, because the hood also pulls air toward itself; the oven and hob experience centre works that placement through. The wall and HVAC mount on the Vaayu is what lets you choose that wall rather than the socket nearest the door.
SOSA Vaayu
The Vaayu mounts on the wall you choose, holds one level under a key-lock, and adds no water to the room.

4
The product fact
Waterless - and nothing else is claimed about the refrigerator
Refrigerator displays attract more supplier nonsense than any other appliance floor, so here is the whole of what SOSA will say. The Vaayu is a waterless cold-air nebuliser. It adds no moisture to the room and leaves no residue on any surface. That is a fact about the machine and it is the only fact stated. SOSA makes no claim about what fragrance does to a refrigerator, a compressor, a steel door, a glass panel or a display - in either direction. Whether room humidity, air movement or anything else matters to a particular cabinet is a question for the brand that makes it, and the honest answer from a fragrance company is to say so. The one place water does come into it is the ladder: the SOSA Sukoon is ultrasonic and water-based, so on a small refrigerator studio it is a fair choice only with the plain statement that it adds a little moisture to the room. A reed adds nothing.
Rule: if a supplier tells you what their fragrance does to your refrigerators, in either direction, they are selling.
5
The register
A new fridge smells of nothing - the display smells of a kept kitchen
With the air sorted out, the scent is straightforward. The reference is the interior of a new refrigerator, which smells of nothing, and the kitchen around it, which smells of a beautifully kept home. That gives you cedar, sage, dry pine and a clean mineral note for a run in steel, graphite or dark glass, and lemon and mint for a white, glass-fronted wall - in the SOSA range, Mountain Breeze and Morning Freshness. Low, because steel and glass bounce fragrance and absorb nothing; set for the advisor who stands there all day; un-nameable at the specification table. Nothing sweet, nothing warm, and - because it is still a kitchen-appliance floor - nothing edible, which matters doubly next to a machine whose job is storing food. The refrigerator and home-appliance store is the sibling page for a floor of freestanding white steel, where the register is the same and the placement problem is different.
Refills: the four 100ml bottles in the Vaayu box are the supply; confirm refill availability with SOSA before you plan on it.
The SOSA principle
A refrigeration wall is a machine for moving air. Place the fragrance as if it were a draught - on the far wall, high - and let the cold wall smell of nothing.
Waterless is the only product fact. Nothing is claimed about the fridge. The register is a kept kitchen, held low.
SOSA Vaayu
On the far wall from the cold wall, waterless, locked: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999, timer and key-lock, up to 1000m³ of connected floor.

Across the floor: where the scent is and where it is not

The same answer laid across a typical refrigeration floor, from the reception wall to the open doors. Mark the run and the AC supply on your plan and the far wall usually picks itself.

The SOSA plan
A refrigerator display, wall to wall
The zone What it should smell like
SOSA VaayuReception wall and entrance approach
Dry and clean, noticed on arrival. The source lives here, high - one Vaayu from about 1,500 sq ft. View →
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed DiffuserDisplay kitchens and the corridor between
A trace of the same scent carried by the AC. Nothing placed inside a set; a small three-sided room over-scents in minutes. View →
The specification table
Un-nameable. Judged here, at five in the afternoon, by the advisor who has stood at it all day.
In front of the open refrigeration doors
Very little, and that is correct. Cold spill pulls the air down and away. Do not compensate.
Behind and above the run - compressor vents
Nothing placed here, ever. Warm updraughts lift a source to the ceiling before it has crossed the room.
Any demo kitchen or tasting counter on the floor
Nothing. The demonstration owns that air while it runs; machine off on the timer; extraction clears it afterwards.

The rest of the family fills in the other walls: the dishwasher and kitchen studio on the cleaner-trap, multiple real kitchens on partitions and one source, and the dark, ultra-modern display on the register for graphite and black glass. What a premium appliance showroom should smell like is the cluster's starting point. SOSA makes no claim that any of this changes footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales.

SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
The honest start for a small refrigerator studio: one Mountain Breeze reed at the desk, ₹849 for 50ml, 6-8 weeks - never on the plinth in front of the doors.
Far wall, high, waterless - the cold wall left to itself
SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 covers up to 1000m³ on a single waterless unit. Send a plan with the refrigeration run marked and we will place it honestly.
See the SOSA Vaayu Book a scenting plan
Nobody can tell you what a fragrance does to your refrigerators, and anybody who tries is selling. What I can tell you is that the machine is waterless, and where to put it.

A note from Sonal

Refrigerator displays are where I hear the most confident nonsense from fragrance suppliers, in both directions, so let me be as plain as I can. I do not know what a fragrance does to your refrigerators, and neither does anyone selling you one. What I know is that the SOSA Vaayu is waterless: it adds no moisture to the room and leaves no residue on anything. That is the whole of the product claim. Whether the air in your showroom matters to a particular cabinet is a question for the brand that built it, and I would rather send you to them than guess.

What I can help with is the air. A wall of built-in refrigeration with the doors open is a machine for moving it - cold spilling out and sinking at the front, warm venting out behind - and I have watched owners put a source right on the plinth and then turn it up week after week because nobody could smell it. The cold wall is meant to smell of nothing. Put the Vaayu high on the opposite wall, on the AC path, lock the level, and let the fragrance thin toward the doors the way it wants to.

The register is the easy part: cedar and sage against steel and graphite, lemon and mint against a white glass wall, low, and nothing edible next to a machine that stores food. A Mountain Breeze reed at the desk for a studio; one Vaayu at ₹11,999 from about 1,500 sq ft; one Angaan past about 3,000. And always: no claim that fragrance moves footfall, dwell time or sales, and no claim about what it does to any refrigerator. It is an interiors decision, like lighting or music, never a substitute for ventilation or cleaning, and any demo zone stays unscented. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Which scent register suits a built-in refrigerator display in steel and dark glass?
A dry one held low: cedar, sage, dry pine and a clean mineral note - Mountain Breeze in the SOSA range - against brushed steel, graphite and dark glass, or lemon and mint from Morning Freshness against a white, glass-fronted wall. The reference is a new refrigerator, whose interior smells of nothing, in a beautifully kept kitchen. Nothing sweet, nothing warm, and nothing edible next to a machine whose job is storing food.
Why should a scent source never be placed near open refrigerator doors?
Because open doors spill cold air that sinks and pools across the floor in front of the cabinets, and compressor vents push warm air out behind and above them. A source placed near the run is pulled to the floor by the cold spill or lifted to the ceiling by the warm vent before it has crossed the room, so nobody smells it and someone turns it up. Place it high on the far wall instead and accept that the cold wall smells of little.
Does SOSA claim its fragrance is safe for, or harmful to, refrigerators on display?
Neither. SOSA makes no claim about what fragrance does to any refrigerator, compressor, door or panel, in either direction. The only product fact stated is that the SOSA Vaayu is waterless, so it adds no moisture to the room and leaves no residue on surfaces. Whether room humidity or anything else in the air matters to a particular cabinet is a question for the brand that makes it.
Is a water-based ultrasonic diffuser acceptable in a small refrigerator studio?
It can be, said honestly. The SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,899 is a 500ml ultrasonic diffuser for a room of roughly 270-320 sq ft and it is water-based, so it adds a little moisture to the air. In a small studio that is a fair choice provided that fact is stated plainly. A reed adds nothing but scent. From about 1,500 sq ft the waterless SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 is the answer.
How is the fragrance level set on a floor that is mostly steel and glass?
A step down from any other retail, because steel, glass and stone bounce fragrance around and absorb none of it. Set it for the advisor who stands on the floor nine hours a day, not the visitor: noticed at the reception, un-nameable at the specification table, and judged at five in the afternoon rather than at opening. If the team says it is too much, it is too much, and the key-lock on the SOSA Vaayu keeps the agreed level from drifting upward.
