Founder Diaries · Corporate Gifting Guides

Most corporate gifts leave the recipient's desk within a week, usually to a member of staff. The useful test is not whether a gift is good, but whether it survives that.
Quick answers — read this first
Which Diwali gifts do clients actually use? Ones consumed personally rather than stored or shared. A car perfume at ₹449 goes into the recipient's own car; a reed diffuser at ₹749 goes into their cabin or home.
Why do corporate gifts get redistributed? Because most are edible, bulky or generic, and an office has no storage. Anything the recipient cannot personally use quickly finds its way to the team.
What predicts personal use? A gift that is small, non-perishable, individually usable and belongs somewhere specific in the recipient's own life, such as their car.
The short answer
Short answer: Ask whether it survives redistribution. Small, non-perishable, personally usable gifts reach the client; bulk food does not.
The pick: something consumed rather than kept - a car perfume at ₹449 or a reed diffuser at ₹749.
Bulk: quantities, lead times and pricing on WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 - confirm before you commit to a delivery date.
Client gifting at Diwali is a list problem before it is a taste problem. One family of fragrance products at three price tiers lets a hundred clients be gifted well without a hundred separate decisions, and keeps the tiering legible rather than awkward.
Apply the redistribution test, which is a more honest filter than asking whether a gift is nice. Here is what actually happens to corporate Diwali gifts. They arrive at an office, they accumulate on a table, and within about a week the majority have been redistributed to staff, taken home by whoever was nearest, or quietly stored. This is not ingratitude, it is logistics: an office has no space, edible gifts have a deadline, and nobody can personally consume twelve of anything. So the question is not whether your gift is good. It is whether it survives that week.Three properties predict survival.Small enough to pocket. A bulky gift is a transport problem, and anything that cannot easily go home in a car will not. Individually usable. A gift that works for one person goes to one person; an assortment invites sharing, which is how it ends up on the pantry table. And it has a specific place in the recipient's own life. This is the strongest predictor and the one nobody designs for. A car perfume belongs in their car, which is a place they alone control, so it goes there rather than to the team. A reed diffuser belongs in their cabin or at home, which is the same logic. The picks by this test: a hanging car perfume at ₹449 is the highest-survival gift in the range at volume pricing; an attar at ₹399 is small, personal and goes straight into a pocket; a reed diffuser at ₹749 is used in the client's own space. The lowest-survival gifts are large food assortments, which are designed almost perfectly for redistribution. SOSA makes no claim that a gift affects a client's loyalty, spend, retention or the volume of business they place with you.One thing to settle before taste: corporate gifting in India has rules. Gifts to government officials and public servants are restricted and are best avoided entirely. Healthcare professionals cannot accept gifts from pharmaceutical, medical device and allied healthcare companies under the applicable marketing and professional conduct codes. Many listed, regulated and multinational companies set their own value limits and disclosure thresholds. On tax, Section 194R of the Income Tax Act brings business benefits and perquisites into scope once the aggregate to one resident recipient passes ₹20,000 in a financial year, and input tax credit is generally blocked on goods given away as gifts. This is general information rather than legal or tax advice, and your finance and compliance teams decide. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: does it have a place in their car or their cabin? Then it survives the week.
Highest survival rate in the range: a hanging car perfume at ₹449, which goes into a space only they control.
The redistribution test is unflattering and accurate, and it predicts gift outcomes better than price does.
01
Most gifts leave in a week
To staff, or to storage
Offices have no space, food has a deadline, and nobody consumes twelve of anything personally. The default outcome for a corporate gift is redistribution, which is not rudeness but logistics. Designing against that is the single highest-leverage thing a gifting decision can do.
Tip: Redistribution is the default. Design against it.
02
It needs a place to belong
In their life, not their office
A gift with an obvious destination in the recipient's personal space goes there. A car perfume belongs in a car, which is somewhere only they control, so it does not get shared. This is the strongest predictor of personal use and almost nobody designs for it deliberately.
03
Assortments invite sharing
By construction
A box of many items is structurally an invitation to open it on a shared table, which is exactly what happens. An individually usable item goes to one person, which is the point of client gifting. If you want the client to have it, do not send something designed to be divided.
Tip: A box of many things is an invitation to share it.
The SOSA principle
Does it belong somewhere only they control?
That question predicts more than price, packaging or thought.
What survives it
Across a long list, the car is the most reliable destination, because almost every client has one and nobody else is gifting into it.
A hamper is a box designed to be opened on a shared table. That is exactly what happens to it.

The SOSA client gifting range
Everything below is alcohol-free and handmade in India. The volume tier is the 12ml car perfume, sold in two forms at the same price: a hanging version with a mild scent throw and a spray with a stronger one. The premium tier is attars and reed diffusers, both of which are used daily and then finished. The VIP tier is the scent machines. Ultrasonic diffusers need water and the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance, which is not reed diffuser oil and is not interchangeable with it. Quantities, lead times and bulk pricing are confirmed on WhatsApp before you commit to a date, because festive volumes are planned rather than picked off a shelf. A note from Sonal
Every October I watch the same thing happen. A business with two hundred clients buys two hundred identical boxes of dry fruit, and every one of those clients receives eleven other boxes of dry fruit in the same fortnight. The gift is not bad. It is simply invisible, because it arrived alongside eleven of itself.
Fragrance works differently for one plain reason: almost nobody else sends it. A hanging car perfume in a client's car is noticed every morning for weeks, and it is the only thing in the pile that is still being used in December. That is the whole argument, and it does not require me to claim anything about loyalty or revenue, which I would not.
Two honest notes. Scent is personal, so for a long client list choose clean and widely liked registers rather than distinctive ones, and keep the distinctive choices for the handful of people you actually know. And please check who you are gifting - government officials, doctors and many large companies sit under rules that decide this before taste does. A part of every order supports girl-child education.
Frequently asked questions
Which Diwali gifts do clients actually use?
Ones consumed personally rather than stored or shared. A car perfume goes into their own car; a reed diffuser into their cabin or home.
Why do corporate gifts get redistributed?
Offices have no storage, edible gifts have a deadline, and nobody can personally consume twelve of anything.
What predicts personal use?
Small, non-perishable, individually usable, and with a specific place in the recipient's own life such as their car.
What is the lowest-survival gift?
A large food assortment. It is bulky, perishable and structurally designed to be opened on a shared table.
Does a bigger budget help?
Not much. A larger hamper is still an assortment. Design, not spend, decides whether the client personally uses it.
