The best kitchen fragrance smells of clean — not of dessert. A kitchen is the one room where you are actively making strong food odours, so its scent must be chosen to sit beside food without ever competing with it. That rules out most of what sounds tempting.

In a kitchen, where actual food smells are present, a gourmand fragrance stops being a mood and starts being a competitor. Your nose cannot tell whether the vanilla is a candle or a kheer on the stove, and the two blur into something confused and, over fried or fishy notes, faintly unpleasant. The kitchen is the one room where the fragrance must not smell like food.
