By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles10 min readUpdated September 2026
The awkwardness here is specific and it is not about money. You are a guest in a house where you only have a relationship with one of the occupants, and that relationship is a working one. Anything you choose has an addressee written into it, whether you meant to write one or not - and a gift addressed to your colleague personally is a gift that follows both of you back to the office. The version of this decision that works starts by moving the address: not to the person you work with, but to the household that made up the bed.
The size a two-night work stay usually lands on. A 50ml SOSA reed diffuser, ₹749 to ₹849 - 6 fibre reeds in a refillable glass bottle, published at 6 to 8 weeks. No flame and nothing to switch on, so nothing is explained in a doorway, and because it finishes it leaves nothing standing between two people who work together.
Quick answers — read this first
What is an appropriate host gift when staying at a colleague's home for work? Something addressed to the household rather than to the colleague. A SOSA reed diffuser is ₹749 to ₹849 in 50ml, published to last 6 to 8 weeks, with no flame, no socket and nothing to switch on. It is placed in a room rather than worn by a person, which is the distinction doing the work here.
Why is an attar the wrong choice for a colleague? Because of what it is, not what it costs. SOSA attars start at ₹379 and an attar is worn on the body. That makes it a personal gift for one individual, which is the side of the line you are trying to stay off when the individual is somebody you sit in meetings with. A reed diffuser is placed on a surface in a shared room.
How much should a host gift cost on a work trip? No figure is published and anybody giving you one is inventing it. The ladder that does exist: ₹749 to ₹849 for one 50ml bottle, ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 for one 130ml, and ₹1,498 to ₹1,598 for a two-bottle duo set. What any of those amounts conveys is not something SOSA can tell you.
The short answer
Short answer: Choose a gift addressed to the household rather than to the colleague. A SOSA reed diffuser is Rs 749 to Rs 849 in 50ml, published to last 6 to 8 weeks, with no flame and nothing to switch on. An attar from Rs 379 is worn on the body, which puts it on the personal side of that line.
The pick: A 50ml reed diffuser, ₹749 to ₹849 - placed in a shared room, not worn by a person, and finished in 6 to 8 weeks.
Why: It is addressed to the household rather than to the colleague, and because it finishes it leaves nothing standing in a working relationship afterwards.
A gift cannot change how somebody's week went, and a page that suggests otherwise is not worth reading. What a small parcel does is tell a person you were thinking about them on a day when nothing made you - which is a real thing to say, and worth saying. Keep it small, because a large one asks somebody already short of energy to produce a reaction, and send the words separately, because the object cannot carry them.
I am staying at a colleague's home while travelling for work and want a respectful host gift that does not become overly personal.
Move the addressee and the problem mostly dissolves. Every gift has one, and on a category level it is not subtle: something worn is for a body, something eaten is for a diet, something placed is for a room. Your colleague is a person you have a professional relationship with; the household is a party you have no professional relationship with at all, which is exactly why it is the cleaner address. A SOSA reed diffuser is ₹749 for Morning Freshness, ₹799 for Garden Bloom and Evening Calm, and ₹849 for Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew in 50ml, and ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 in 130ml. Published life is 6 to 8 weeks for the 50ml and 14 to 18 weeks for the 130ml, with 6 fibre reeds in a refillable glass bottle on a coconut-derived CCT carrier that is phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant, made in India. It needs no flame, no socket, no switch and nothing to demonstrate, which matters when you are handing something over with a suitcase still in the doorway and a car waiting. The second property that suits a work trip is that it finishes: in 6 to 8 weeks there is nothing left, so it never becomes a standing item between two people who will be on the same call in a fortnight. Two limits stated plainly. It does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify a smell, and it does not clean the air. And nothing here can tell you how it will be received - SOSA publishes no information about anybody's reaction, and this page will not invent any. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The question is not how much to spend. It is who the object is addressed to - and the household is the only party in that house you have no working relationship with.
The default here: a 50ml reed diffuser, ₹749 to ₹849 - placed in a shared room, published at 6 to 8 weeks, no flame and nothing to switch on.
One house, two relationships, and only one of them is yours
Three checks, and the first one settles most of the shortlist before price is even mentioned.
1
Check one
Read the addressee off the object
Pick up each candidate and ask who it is for. The answer is usually written into the category rather than into your intention.
An attar or any worn fragrance is for a body. SOSA attars start at ₹379 and they are excellent objects - they are simply addressed to an individual, and the individual here is a colleague. A bottle of something to drink is for whoever drinks, which is a fact about the household you may not have. A book or anything chosen to their taste is a claim that you know their taste, from a working relationship that did not supply that information.
A reed diffuser is placed on a surface in a shared room. It is addressed to the address, which is the only thing in that house you can be certain applies to everybody who lives there. That is not a subtle gift and it is not trying to be.
Tip: Worn means a person. Placed means a room. On a work trip, choose the room.
2
Check two
What is still in the room on Monday
A host gift given inside a working relationship has an unusual property: you will see the recipient again in a professional setting, repeatedly, for years possibly. That changes what a permanent object does.
Anything kept becomes a small standing item between you. It sits on a shelf in their house and it is a thing that exists, occasionally mentioned, occasionally moved. Nobody minds, and it also never quite closes. A consumable closes. The 50ml is published at 6 to 8 weeks and the 130ml at 14 to 18 weeks, after which the bottle is finished and the episode is over.
There is a practical version of the same point. No flame, no socket, no switch, no batteries and nothing to demonstrate means no instruction is handed over with it, and therefore no follow-up conversation is created. You do not want to be asking in November whether they ever got round to using the thing.
3
Check three
Size, scent, and what SOSA does not supply
Size from the length of the stay. A couple of nights on a work trip is the 50ml at ₹749 to ₹849, published at 6 to 8 weeks. A longer posting, or a second and third visit to the same spare room, is where the 130ml at ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 and its 14 to 18 weeks start to make sense. A duo set at ₹1,498 to ₹1,598 is two bottles of the same size, and both bottles in a set are the same size.
Scent from what is least declarative.Morning Freshness at ₹749 is Malabar lemon and mint. Garden Bloom at ₹799 is British rose and night-blooming jasmine. Mountain Breeze at ₹849 is Himalayan pine, sage and cedar. Choosing the quietest of the five is not a rule, it is just the option that leans least on information you do not have.
What is not on offer. SOSA's only branding is a custom label or logo on product. There is no custom box, no printed sleeve and no insert card. There is no carton, no ribbon and no message card. Bulk orders are welcome if a whole travelling team is doing this, with no rate, no minimum quantity and no price break published - ask on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531.
Tip: Size from the length of the stay, scent from whatever leans least on guesswork.
The property that makes this work as a first-visit gift
A consumable is not an object somebody has to keep
The real fear behind a first-visit gift is not that it will be disliked. It is that it will have to be kept - displayed, dusted, and eventually explained if it disappears. A decorative object carries all of that into a home you have never seen. A reed diffuser does not, because it ends by itself. The published life makes that concrete: 6 to 8 weeks for the 50ml at ₹749 to ₹849, and 14 to 18 weeks for the 130ml at ₹1,249 to ₹1,349. It also asks nothing of anybody on the day - no flame, no socket, no switch, nothing to demonstrate. And if they do like it, the glass bottle is refillable, with refills at ₹2,399 for 300ml and ₹3,499 for 500ml in all five scents.
A four-step version for the night before the flight
Name the addressee of each candidate: a body, a diet, or an address.
Drop everything addressed to your colleague personally, attars included.
Take the 50ml at Rs 749 to Rs 849 for a stay of a night or two.
Choose the quietest of the five scents rather than your own favourite.
The SOSA principle
A gift given inside a working relationship is unusual in one way: the recipient is somebody you will keep meeting in a professional setting. An object that finishes is the only kind that closes the episode by itself.
Which is the practical case for a consumable here, quite apart from anything about taste.
Size, scent, and the line an attar sits on the wrong side of
Five scents, and on a work trip the useful sort is the one that leans least on what you know about somebody. Morning Freshness at ₹749 is Malabar lemon and mint. Garden Bloom at ₹799 is British rose and night-blooming jasmine. Evening Calm at ₹799 is lavender and chamomile. Mountain Breeze at ₹849 is Himalayan pine, sage and cedar. Fresh Brew at ₹849 is Coorg coffee and Kerala vanilla, the most distinctive of the five and therefore the one that assumes the most. All five are phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant, made in India, on a coconut-derived CCT carrier, with 6 fibre reeds per bottle and a suggested flip roughly once a week.
The SOSA gift edit
Four host gifts at a colleague's door, and who each one is addressed to
The option
Who it suits, and where it fails
A 50ml reed diffuser · ₹749 to ₹849
Addressed to the household, placed in a shared room, published at 6 to 8 weeks, with no flame and nothing to switch on. It fails if you wanted the gift to acknowledge your colleague personally, which on a work trip is usually the thing you were trying to avoid.
An attar · from ₹379
A genuinely fine object and the wrong addressee here: an attar is worn on the body, which makes it a gift to one individual. It fails on exactly the line you drew when you said you did not want it to become personal.
A bottle to drink · any price
Conventional, easy and instantly consumed, which is a real advantage. It fails on a fact about the household you probably do not hold, and a working relationship is not a source for that kind of information.
Something for the house, decorative · any price
The one that most obviously took effort. It fails by asking for permanent space and renewed approval in a home you are passing through for two nights, and by staying visible in a relationship that continues at work.
When one bottle is not quite the right size of gesture
The three duo sets - and they are the only three
Several of these situations want something a little larger without becoming complicated: a first formal visit, a weekend stay, a household that has just hosted you for a week. The published answer is a duo set - two bottles in one box. Day & Night pairs Morning Freshness with Evening Calm at ₹1,498; Fresh & Grounded pairs Morning Freshness with Mountain Breeze at ₹1,548; Warmth & Bloom pairs Fresh Brew with Garden Bloom at ₹1,598. In 130ml x 2 they are ₹2,498, ₹2,548 and ₹2,598. Those three pairings are the entire set range, none is composed to order, and both bottles in a set are the same size. On presentation, be straight with yourself before you order: custom label or logo on product is the only branding SOSA offers - there is no custom box, no printed sleeve and no insert card.
Two nearby options, for completeness. The duo sets - Day & Night at ₹1,498, Fresh & Grounded at ₹1,548 and Warmth & Bloom at ₹1,598 in 50ml x 2, or ₹2,498 to ₹2,598 in 130ml x 2 - are two bottles of the same size sold as one item, and those three pairings are the whole set range with none composed to order. Reed diffuser refills are ₹2,399 for 300ml and ₹3,499 for 500ml in all five scents, which is a household's own repurchase rather than a first gift. And SOSA candles from ₹399 are named here so you can place them: a candle needs a flame and somebody to stay in the room with it, which is what that format is.
₹749 to ₹849 across five scents, published to last 6 to 8 weeks. Large enough to be a proper object, small enough that the household never has to find permanent space for it.
₹1,249 to ₹1,349, published to last 14 to 18 weeks. The same object with more of it - the honest way to make the gesture larger without making it more complicated.
Two bottles in one box, ₹1,498 to ₹1,598 in 50ml and ₹2,498 to ₹2,598 in 130ml. Three published pairings, and those three are the whole range - none is composed to order.
from ₹1,498
Why this category answers a first-visit problem at all
It finishes. That is the entire argument, and it is a fact rather than a claim.
The fear behind almost every first-visit gift question is the same one: that you will hand somebody an object they now have to keep. A vase has to be displayed. A framed thing has to go on a wall. A decorative piece has to survive somebody's taste, and you have never seen the room. A reed diffuser is a consumable, so it carries none of that. It sits somewhere for a while and then it is gone, and nobody has to explain why it is no longer out. The published life makes that concrete rather than vague: 6 to 8 weeks for the 50ml (₹749 to ₹849) and 14 to 18 weeks for the 130ml (₹1,249 to ₹1,349). It also asks nothing of the household on the day: no flame, no socket, no switch, no batteries and nothing to explain at a front door - it works by standing there, with 6 fibre reeds in a refillable glass bottle, on a CCT coconut-derived carrier that is phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant, made in India. Flip the reeds roughly once a week to refresh projection. What anybody makes of being given one is not something SOSA can tell you, and no page should pretend otherwise.
Tell SOSA who it is for, roughly how big the room is, whether their home is already scented and what you want to spend - and you will be told which size and which scent, including the times the honest answer is the 50ml rather than the 130ml.
Every gift has an addressee. In a colleague's house, the household is the only party you have no professional relationship with, which is what makes it the right one.
— Sonal Sahani, SOSA
The SOSA gifting range
Two questions settle almost every reed diffuser gift, and the first one is not price. How big is the room it is going into? A 50ml suits a bedroom, a study, a hallway or a first diffuser; a 130ml suits an open-plan living and dining area, and it is genuinely too much for a small closed bedroom. Then: how much do you actually know about their taste? The less you know, the less declarative the scent should be - Morning Freshness is the safest of the five for a home you have never stood in, and Fresh Brew coffee-vanilla is the strongest opinion in the range. Price follows those two answers rather than leading them.
The SOSA range, sorted by how much it asks of the person receiving it
Start from what the gift demands, not from what it costs
₹749 to ₹849 across five scents. Published to last 6 to 8 weeks, with 6 fibre reeds and a refillable glass bottle. No flame, no socket, nothing to switch on
Day & Night ₹1,498, Fresh & Grounded ₹1,548, Warmth & Bloom ₹1,598 in 50ml x 2; ₹2,498 to ₹2,598 in 130ml x 2. These three pairings are the whole set range
From ₹379 in 3ml. An attar is a personal gift and a reed diffuser is a household one - which is the distinction most first-visit questions are really about
Boond ₹899, Sukoon ₹1,899, Megh ₹5,999 - they need a socket, water and regular refilling. That is a commitment to hand somebody on a first visit
from ₹899
A reed diffuser is a consumable, which is the whole argument for it as a first-visit gift. It is not a permanent object competing for a shelf in somebody else's home, and it needs no flame, no socket, no switch and no explanation at a front door. Published life is 6 to 8 weeks for the 50ml and 14 to 18 weeks for the 130ml, with 6 fibre reeds per bottle, a refillable glass bottle, and a CCT coconut-derived carrier that is phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant, made in India. Flip the reeds roughly once a week to refresh projection - the product pages state the interval slightly differently, between every three and every seven days. Fragrance adds a scent to a room; it does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify an odour and it does not clean the air. Prices above are published retail prices; bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available, with quantities settled on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. SOSA is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, sending orders across India. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The honest spec sheet
What the SOSA reed pages publish, and what they do not
Everything below is on the live product pages. Anything not on this list is not something a page like this should state.
The five scents and their prices - Morning Freshness, Malabar lemon and mint, ₹749 and ₹1,249; Garden Bloom, British rose and night-blooming jasmine, ₹799 and ₹1,299; Evening Calm, lavender and chamomile, ₹799 and ₹1,299; Mountain Breeze, Himalayan pine, sage and cedar, ₹849 and ₹1,349; Fresh Brew, Coorg coffee and Kerala vanilla, ₹849 and ₹1,349.
Published life - 6 to 8 weeks for the 50ml and 14 to 18 weeks for the 130ml, stated on all five pages. This is newer and more specific than the flat figure earlier SOSA writing used.
The format - 6 fibre reeds per bottle rather than rattan, a refillable glass bottle, and a CCT carrier (caprylic/capric triglyceride, coconut-derived) that is phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant. Made in India, formulated by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles trained. No flame, no socket, no switch.
Flip the reeds roughly once a week to refresh projection. The pages state it slightly differently - once a week on three of them, every five to seven days on one, every three to five on another - so treat it as about weekly rather than as a rule.
Duo sets and refills - three published pairings at ₹1,498, ₹1,548 and ₹1,598 in 50ml x 2 and ₹2,498 to ₹2,598 in 130ml x 2, and refills at ₹2,399 for 300ml and ₹3,499 for 500ml in all five scents. Those three pairings are the entire set range and none is composed to order.
Not published, and therefore never stated here: any coverage or room-size figure for a reed diffuser; how a scent behaves in a particular home; any bulk rate, minimum quantity, price break or lead time; any presentation packaging beyond a custom label or logo on product; and anything whatsoever about how a gift is received. Those go to WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
Not sure how big the gesture should be? Tell SOSA on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 four things: whose home you are going to and how well you know them, whether you are staying or visiting for an evening, roughly what you want to spend, and whether anybody in the household has said anything about scent. You will get one straight answer rather than a catalogue - including the times the honest answer is the 50ml at ₹749 rather than anything larger. What is not on this page, because SOSA does not publish it: any coverage or room-size figure for a reed diffuser, any bulk rate, minimum quantity or lead time, and anything at all about how a gift is received. What is: 6 to 8 weeks for the 50ml, 14 to 18 weeks for the 130ml, 6 fibre reeds, a refillable glass bottle, and refills at ₹2,399 for 300ml and ₹3,499 for 500ml in all five scents. On presentation, be warned: custom label or logo on product is the one branding option - there is no custom box, no printed sleeve and no insert card, and there is no carton, no ribbon and no message card, so anything you want wrapped is yours to arrange. Where SOSA is: an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, sending orders across India, with no shop, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city.

A note from Sonal
A particular kind of message arrives on our WhatsApp, usually in the evening, usually slightly rushed. I am going to his parents' place on Sunday. I have never met them. I cannot go empty-handed and I have no idea what they like. It is one of the few gifting questions where the person is not really shopping. They are trying not to get something wrong in front of people whose opinion they have decided matters.
So the useful thing is not a recommendation, it is a subtraction. Most of what goes wrong with a first-visit gift is permanence. A decorative object has to be kept, displayed, and eventually explained if it is not. Food runs into what people eat. Anything personal runs into taste you have not earned the right to guess at yet. What is left is the category that ends by itself, and that is genuinely why a reed diffuser keeps coming up in those messages.
The part I would want you to hold on to is the least romantic part. The 50ml is published to last six to eight weeks, and the 130ml fourteen to eighteen. It has no flame, no plug and no switch, so nobody has to be shown how it works while their family stands in a doorway. It is a glass bottle and six fibre reeds, and it does the whole job by standing on a surface.
And the part I will not pretend about: I cannot tell you how anybody will take it. Nobody selling you a gift can, and the ones who promise it are selling you reassurance rather than a product. What I can tell you is what the object is, how long it lasts and what it asks of the person receiving it - which is very little. What that is worth on a Sunday afternoon in somebody's living room is yours to judge, not mine.
Frequently asked questions
Is a reed diffuser a household gift or a personal one?
A household one. It is placed on a surface in a shared room rather than worn or consumed by an individual, which is the distinction that matters when the host is somebody you work with. A SOSA reed diffuser is Rs 749 to Rs 849 in 50ml and Rs 1,249 to Rs 1,349 in 130ml, published to last 6 to 8 weeks and 14 to 18 weeks.
What about a SOSA attar from Rs 379?
An attar is worn on the body, so it is addressed to one person. That is a description of the format rather than a criticism of it: for a partner or a close friend it is the obvious choice, and for a colleague whose spare room you slept in for two nights it sits on the personal side of a line you said you wanted to keep.
How much is usually spent on a host gift for a work stay?
No figure is published and no rule exists that is worth repeating. The ladder is Rs 749 to Rs 849 for one 50ml bottle, Rs 1,249 to Rs 1,349 for one 130ml, Rs 1,498 to Rs 1,598 for a duo set of two 50ml bottles, and Rs 2,498 to Rs 2,598 for a duo set of two 130ml bottles. Which one suits your stay is your judgement, and nothing here can tell you how it will be received.
Does it need setting up or explaining at the door?
No. There is no flame, no socket, no switch and no batteries, and nothing has to be demonstrated. The reeds stand in the oil and the bottle works by sitting on a surface. The pages suggest flipping the reeds roughly once a week to refresh projection, stating the interval differently between every three and every seven days, and SOSA publishes no coverage or room-size figure at all.
Can anything be added around the bottle?
No. Custom label or logo on product is the only branding SOSA offers. There is no custom box, no printed sleeve and no insert card. There is no carton, no ribbon and no message card. Bulk orders are welcome if a team travels regularly, with no rate, no minimum quantity and no price break published, and quantities are settled on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531.
Take the next step
Address it to the house, then choose the size from the stay
The 50ml at ₹749 to ₹849 for a night or two - 6 to 8 weeks, no flame, nothing to switch on. The 130ml at ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 when the spare room is becoming a regular arrangement - 14 to 18 weeks. A duo set from ₹1,498 is two bottles of the same size. Tell SOSA on WhatsApp how long you stayed and who else lives in the house, and keep the answer on the household side of the line.
Not sure which one suits the person you are buying for? Send SOSA their age, whether they drive, whether they like their home scented and your budget on WhatsApp, and you will get an honest answer - including when the cheaper product is the better gift.

Three duo combo sets are published: Day & Night at ₹1,498 in 50ml x 2 and ₹2,498 in 130ml x 2, Fresh & Grounded at ₹1,548 and ₹2,548, and Warmth & Bloom at ₹1,598 and ₹2,598; those three pairings are the entire set range and none is composed to order. Reed diffuser refills are ₹2,399 for 300ml and ₹3,499 for 500ml, published for all five scents. For comparison: SOSA attars are ₹379 to ₹399 in 3ml, rising to ₹1,149 to ₹1,199 in 12ml, and are worn rather than placed; SOSA candles start at ₹399 and require a flame; the ultrasonic machines Boond ₹899, Sukoon ₹1,899 and Megh ₹5,999 are water-based and need a socket, water and regular refilling. What is not published, and is therefore not stated here: any coverage, room-size or square-footage figure for a reed diffuser; how a scent behaves in any particular home; any shelf life, oil concentration or evaporation rate; any bulk rate, minimum quantity, price break or lead time; and any presentation packaging beyond a custom label or logo on product. Limits of this guide: fragrance adds a scent to a room. It does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify an odour, it does not clean the air, and no SOSA product makes any health, antibacterial or air-purifying claim. No claim is made anywhere on this page about mood, stress, calm, sleep or wellbeing; where a product is named Evening Calm or Mountain Breeze that is a product name and not a claim about its effect. No claim is made about how any gift will be received. Nothing here states or implies that a gift will impress anybody, be appreciated, create a good impression or affect any relationship; SOSA publishes no information of that kind and none is invented here. No statement is made about what any community, religion or family customarily eats, drinks or gives, and no etiquette rule is presented as a fact - the reasoning offered is reasoning the reader can check against their own situation. No rating, review count or customer name from any product page is cited, and no competitor or category of competing product is characterised. Bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available; that is the only branding option, and quantities are settled on WhatsApp. SOSA Home & Body is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, Maharashtra, sending orders across India, with no shop, showroom, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
